Kapitel 68

Screams erupted from the shore, and someone shouted, "Someone has fallen into the water!"

"Quickly, save them!"

"Call the police! And call 120!"

Chaos erupted on the shore.

Shen Huai was about to jump into the water to save the person, but Ye Cang stopped him. He knew that Shen Huai was nearsighted and that his vision would be affected in the water, so he quickly took off his coat and jumped into the water.

Ye Cang was a good swimmer, and because it was summer, the river water wasn't too cold. He quickly found the other person in the water; it was a girl who had fallen into a coma.

This made it easier for Ye Cang to rescue him. He swam towards the shore with his men and saw Shen Huai find a stick somewhere and extend it towards him. He grabbed the stick and was pulled to the shore.

At this moment, several passersby gathered around and worked together to pull the girl out of the water.

Ye Cang breathed a sigh of relief, only to see a hand reaching out in front of him.

Shen Huai stared intently at him: "I'll pull you up."

Ye Cang chuckled, grabbed his hand, and climbed ashore.

As soon as he stepped ashore, a cool breeze swept by, and Ye Cang shivered. Before he could say anything, a suit jacket was already draped over his shoulders.

On the other side, someone was giving first aid to the rescued girl. A short while later, an ambulance and a police car arrived one after the other.

The doctors, well-trained, lifted the girl into the ambulance. Knowing that Ye Cang was the one who had selflessly saved her, they let him get on the ambulance as well.

The police were questioning several onlookers, and it took them a while to explain the whole situation before the police finally approached Shen Huai.

However, upon seeing each other, the two were stunned.

The policeman was an old acquaintance; he was the same officer who had taken their statements before.

The police officer was somewhat amused and exasperated: "Mr. Shen, it seems we'll have to trouble you to come back to the police station with me again to make a statement."

Shen Huai was also somewhat helpless; what kind of fate was this...?

The onlookers, worried that the police might misunderstand Shen Huai, quickly offered their explanations, saying that they were acting bravely and righteously.

The police officer had no choice but to patiently explain again.

Just then, a man with a camera stepped out from the crowd and said, "I am a reporter from Dongjiang TV. I have filmed everything that just happened. I can provide the video if the police need it."

So the reporter and Shen Huai went back to the police station together with the police.

After the interview was finished, the reporter handed Shen Huai a business card: "Your acts of bravery are very moving. I would like to conduct an exclusive interview with you both. Would that be convenient?"

Shen Huai accepted the business card but refused to accept it. They had saved the girl simply out of their conscience. If it were reported, given Ye Cang's current fame, it would attract a lot of attention and could potentially harm the girl, which would go against their original intentions.

The reporter was somewhat disappointed when he refused, and tried to persuade him again, but found that Shen Huai's attitude was firm, so he gave up.

Shen Huai rushed to the hospital, where Ye Cang was being bandaged in the emergency room. He had sustained several abrasions while saving people, but fortunately none of them were serious.

Ye Cang, still concerned about the girl who had been rescued, asked the nurse who had bandaged him, "Excuse me, how is the girl who drowned earlier?"

The nurse next to him recognized him and quickly answered, "He had been in shock, but after being brought to the hospital, he regained breathing and a heartbeat, and he's out of danger now..."

This wouldn't normally be a problem, but both Ye Cang and Shen Huai felt a strange sense of familiarity.

The two of them looked around simultaneously.

—Chu Meibo has disappeared.

Chapter 39

The two rushed to the intensive care unit and, through the glass, saw a pale-faced girl lying on the bed with a breathing mask on her face. According to the nurse, although she was out of danger, she was still unconscious and would have to stay in the intensive care unit for another night.

Shen Huai wasn't sure if Chu Meibo had also been resurrected in this girl's body, like Ye Cang. But since she wasn't fully awake yet, there was no point in them waiting here; they could only return to the hotel first.

When they got back, Xue Chengge was already asleep, so Shen Huai didn't disturb him and instead shared a room with Ye Cang.

Although the two had always lived in the same house, they each had their own rooms and used separate bathrooms. Now, however, they had to share a room, and the interrupted kiss tonight made Shen Huai feel somewhat uncomfortable.

While Ye Cang was taking a shower, he rubbed his forehead, forcing himself to focus on his work.

After he finished making the call and arranged things, he turned around and saw Ye Cang walking out wearing only a bath towel. The young man had a flexible and slender figure, and recently, due to frequent exercise, he had vaguely developed some muscle definition.

A vein bulged on Shen Huai's forehead: "Put your clothes on!"

Ye Cang: "I'm going to sleep soon, what should I wear!"

Shen Huai: "..."

Ye Cang crossed his arms, looked at Shen Huai's slightly reddened ears, and said with a mischievous smile, "Are you shy?"

Shen Huai turned his head away and said, "I'm going to wash up first." After saying that, he grabbed his things and hurriedly went into the bathroom.

The bathroom door slammed shut.

Shen Huai rested his arm on the sink, looking at himself in the mirror with a hint of annoyance. His self-control, which he had always been proud of, was as fragile as paper in front of Ye Cang.

Just like tonight, he originally just wanted to accompany Ye Cang for a walk to clear his head, but who knew it would develop into what it is today.

For the first time, Shen Huai felt the urge to escape. He stayed in the bathroom for a long time before finally dawdling out.

Ye Cang seemed to be too tired and had already fallen asleep.

This relieved Shen Huai, and he returned to his bed. However, as soon as he closed his eyes, the scene by the riverbank would appear in his mind. It took him a great deal of effort to force himself to forget the scene and fall asleep exhausted.
