Kapitel 24

The Du family's faces immediately turned pale. Sisi's elbow struck Joel's abdomen again, and he let out another groan, rubbing his stomach and taking a breath.

"But I'm afraid that if I don't let you go, I'll lose my baby."

Sisi chuckled softly. "You deserved it!"

"Yes, yes, I deserve it..." Joel couldn't help but sigh again. "No one in the whole world isn't afraid of me, except for you and your son, who have me cornered!"

"Really?" Sisi snorted. "And what about your 'fiancée'?"

Jolton's face immediately fell.

"Please, kid, you knew perfectly well it was a trick they were playing, don't blame me!"

Sisi scoffed. "Then what am I? An ex-wife?"

Joel frowned, but his "ex-wife" suddenly grinned and got up, hoisting her onto his shoulder and carrying her into the room.

"Ah—you...why are you here again? What do you want this time?"

"Prove you're not his ex-wife!"

The others could only stand there dumbfounded, watching the room door close.

A month later, Joel quietly returned to Boston with his beloved wife.

After he found Sisi, he kidnapped her and took her on a trip to Europe against her will. Firstly, he had an unbreakable hatred for her parents and wanted to get as far away as possible; secondly, he wanted to take the opportunity to have a belated honeymoon; and thirdly, he wanted to take the opportunity to avoid the trouble caused by Judy Sue's engagement.

After returning, Sisi moved into his apartment, and he disagreed with her continuing to work, deciding that she should be a stay-at-home wife, only responsible for satisfying his physical desires and raising his children. But…

This is so boring!

Sisi huddled in the large, high-backed chair, her entire body almost completely hidden, as she imagined Joel sitting upright in the chair, focused on his work.

How boring! When she arrived, Joel wasn't there, and neither was Jasmine, so she had to come in and wait for him. She observed the equipment in the office with great boredom. She had heard that Joel was a cold and ruthless workaholic who used to spend almost all his time in the office, and often slept in the attached suite for ten days or half a month at a time.

Things are different now, of course. Not only is being late and leaving early a regular occurrence, but unless there's something particularly important to do, he simply leaves the company to David and Philip, while he skips work to take her sightseeing and shopping. He even takes her on a day trip to South Africa in his private luxury jet so she can experience riding camels in the desert, or on a whim, flies to the Netherlands to see the tulip fields.

She just kept coming to his place because she had nothing else to do.

Cold-hearted? She frowned slightly, a hint of suspicion in her eyes. Could it be? His enthusiasm was sometimes so intense it was almost overwhelming. She shrugged, took off her shoes, stretched her legs out onto the chair, and sat cross-legged. She considered turning on the computer to play some games, but then worried about accidentally losing some important data, so she gave up. She knelt up and, idly flipping through the contracts and data reports from Jing Department Store on the table, mechanically popped strawberries she'd just taken from the refrigerator into her mouth.

She lay there, turned over, and ate... Her eyelids began to grow heavy, and she let out a big yawn. Ah, so sleepy!

"what are you doing here?"

Suddenly, a stern rebuke startled her awake. She sat up abruptly, knocking over the strawberries in the process, and soaking the contracts and data reports on the table with water.

"Oh no! Oh no!" She frantically wiped and wiped with her sleeves, but the faint pink water stains stubbornly clung to the contract. "How could this happen?" she cried, wiping even more frantically.

"Enough! No need to wipe anymore, it's useless!" The authoritative voice rang out again, this time from the desk.

Startled, Sisi looked up and saw a typical successful career woman before her. In her early thirties, her slightly stern features shone with confidence, her elegant and expensive clothes symbolized her successful career, and her commanding voice indicated her habit of giving orders. At this moment, her brown eyes, tinged with anger, were glaring at her with displeasure.

"I...I...I'm sorry, I'm so sorry!" Sisi stammered, shrinking back.

"Sorry? Do you think that saying sorry is enough to compensate for the loss?"

"Speak! Who allowed you in?" She reprimanded him mercilessly, as if berating a subordinate. "Don't you know this is the CEO's office? Look at you! So rude and unruly! Which department are you from, huh? Speak up!"

“They’re all not here, so I…” Strange, why is she being so mean to me? Sisi couldn’t help but ask herself.

"No one allowed you in, yet you barged in on your own? What are you up to?" she asked angrily, raising her voice.

"Intentions? What intentions could I possibly have? I just came in to wait for someone. And who are you? You came in on your own." Something's wrong. There are other women who can freely come and go from Joel's office. Hmm, something's wrong. Sisi thought to herself unconsciously.

"I was invited in by An Ting Lamb, president of Jing Department Store, and Vice President David to wait for President Rox to discuss the signing details." She glared angrily at Sisi. "Who are you? How dare you barge into the president's office? If you don't tell me the truth right now, I'll call security..."

"Huh? Shouldn't that be David's responsibility?" Sisi muttered to herself, ignoring Anting's threat, she picked up the phone on the table and answered David's extension number.

“Hey David, this is Sisi. I want to ask you what you mean? It’s clearly your job, so why are you pushing it onto Joel?” Sisi frowned, looking at Anting’s surprised expression. “So what? Joel said it’s all up to you.” She pouted. “But, we agreed to go to…” Reluctantly putting her feet down, she bent down and fumbled for her shoes. “Really? Why?” She glanced at Anting suspiciously. “What did Joel say?” She put her shoes on.

"Really? He said that?" She raised her eyebrows in displeasure and raised her voice. "Yes, yes, of course I'll pretend I don't know and get out of there as soon as possible, so as not to get in their way." She bit her lower lip. "What do you mean? Just what it says! She's the female president of Jingdong Chain Department Store, what am I! Of course I can't interfere with their 'business'." She deliberately emphasized "business". "Misunderstanding? No, who misunderstood? You?"

She slowly walked up to the suspicious An Ting and looked her over. Damn it! Why was she so short? "No, of course I didn't misunderstand. What could I possibly misunderstand?"

Of course there are capable women! Even if they aren't beauties, they are at least capable women.

Damn it, why is it that none of the women around Joel are as good as her? They all seem to have appeared specifically to undermine her confidence, or to make her realize her insignificance?

Ten years ago, he didn't seem as intimidating as he is now, but now, wherever he goes, he's the center of attention. During that month-long vacation, she could clearly feel the confusion in people's eyes—why were they all gathered together?

She truly loved Joel, but heaven knows, she was also increasingly regretting marrying such an outstanding man! She would rather live with an ordinary man, at least then she wouldn't have to constantly worry about being left behind.

Under Sisi's scrutiny, Anting stubbornly raised her head, looking down at Sisi with disdain, which only intensified Sisi's displeasure. "Don't worry, I'll pretend nothing happened, is that alright?" Sisi was increasingly unable to control the bitterness welling up inside her. "Oh, of course he has to rush back, someone's waiting for him!"

Seeing the triumphant look in An Ting's eyes, Si Si's anger was finally ignited, and a cunning smile suddenly appeared on her lips.

"You're welcome. You just need to do me a small favor... What is it?" She suddenly struck a strange pose, a pose perfect for a quick escape. "Just tell Hao Hao that I'm going to travel the world with Yuan Ling. I'll be back in three to five years at most. Tell him to stay at Grandma's and not worry about me, okay?" With that, she tossed the phone aside, dashed out of the office at breakneck speed, passed by a startled Jasmine, and crashed headfirst into the CEO's private elevator. As soon as the elevator doors closed, she erupted in a triumphant cheer, "Champion!"

An Ting watched in bewilderment as Sisi suddenly rushed out of the CEO's office. David, looking extremely nervous, followed her in. "Sisi! Sisi...where did she go?" David was terrified when he couldn't see Sisi and kept asking An Ting where Sisi was.

Anpin pointed outside, and David rushed out even faster, muttering to himself, "Oh no! Oh no! This is a disaster!" Reaching the elevator, he paced anxiously, waiting for it to arrive. Finally, the elevator doors opened, and as soon as Joel stepped out, David immediately peered nervously behind him, searching, "Where's Xixi? Haven't you seen Xixi?"

"Doll? Yes, she said she was going to find someone and then rushed off. I don't know what she was in such a hurry for. Maybe she made an appointment. What's wrong? Is it urgent that you need to see her? You look so anxious." Joel, oblivious to the impending disaster, asked with a smile.

"Urgent? I'm going crazy! Xixi saw An Ting... she misunderstood! Then she ran away... she said she was going to find Yuan Ling..."

Before David could finish speaking, Joel's face turned ashen. The two of them turned and rushed into the elevator. Just as the elevator doors were closing, they saw Philip running over, yelling, "Hey! Why did you two run off? What about President Lamb?"
