The sky was already bright, and a light rain was pattering down outside the window. Although it was winter, the flowers and plants on the balcony were still vibrant. This was the first rain since the winter solstice. Xiaoyue bought the flowers and plants for me. She said that if you want to know if the feng shui of a house is bad, just look at whether the flowers and plants in the house are thriving.
"Ying, when did you come in? What are you doing in my room?" I stared at her, because she was wearing a nightgown, and to make matters worse, it was a lace nightgown, through which I could vaguely see two tender white mounds and two pink nipples on her chest. Her fair arm was pressed against my shoulder, rubbing back and forth.
It's early morning, when my yang energy is at its peak, and I opened my eyes to this scene. My nose started bleeding, and I quickly covered myself with the blanket, wiping it with the sheet. I yelled in a muffled voice, "Come out quickly, little sister! Get dressed before you come in! You're all grown up now, but you're still as careless as when you were a kid. It's really maddening!"
Ah Ying said aggrievedly, "I didn't want to either! You were talking loudly in your sleep first thing in the morning, it was so scary, I live next door and I could hear it all, so I came in because I was worried!"
Then, as she walked next door to put on her coat, she came back in and said to me, "Last night, I was so scared, you know? My parents were away on a business trip, and I was too scared to stay at home alone, so I came here. You were sleeping like a log, so my aunt let me stay in the study next door."
"What's there to be afraid of?" I muttered to myself, then asked, "Are you dressed yet?" Only after hearing her affirmative answer did I crawl out. "Did I see a ghost?"
"How do you know? My neighbor across the street is really haunted! It's absurd, but everything I'm saying is true. There really is a female ghost." Ying's voice trembled as she said this. I took her cold little hand with pity and patted her comfortingly.
“I often hear her singing nursery rhymes to the baby in the middle of the night. The neighbor used to be a boss surnamed Guo. He was originally a contractor, but later he contracted a cement factory in the township. Now he has bought a small villa outside and has given his current house to his relatives in the countryside.”
"When did you hear the ghost singing?"
"Six months ago."
Why didn't you mention this before?
"And you're still talking! You're indifferent to everything. I haven't even said two words to you before you leave without a second glance. You've never replied to the letters I send you from school." Aying pouted, looking like she was about to cry.

Reply [42]: I quickly comforted her, saying that I believed every word she said and that we would go and see her tonight.
"No need. Do you know Ah Yin? He used to know witchcraft and could catch ghosts. I invited him here this time to help me get rid of this annoying ghost."
I suddenly remembered the boy's cold and sinister eyes, and a chill ran through me. Actually, I wanted to tell Aying that every vengeful spirit is humanized. They become like this because their souls are incomplete or fragmented, just like a person with an unhealthy mind or abnormal nerves. Their experiences and behaviors are quite pitiful.
No vengeful spirit is born intelligent and cruel; otherwise, the world would be in chaos. Therefore, Taoism deals with ghosts through salvation, expulsion, and prayer, not annihilation—but I cannot say these things to Ying. In A-Yin's eyes, however, I saw hatred and destruction—and I sensed a chilling spiritual energy about him that I did not understand.
"He was supposed to exorcise the ghost last night, but suddenly someone called him, so he rushed off." Ying said, a puzzled look on her face. "No one called him at the time, did they?"
The rain drizzled all day, leaving the small town damp and clean. Under the dim sky, leaves fell one by one from the bare branches, swept away by the chilly autumn wind, bringing a deep sense of cold.
At this moment, I let myself face the longing and sorrow, and the lingering faint sadness once again swept over my heart.
Xiaoyue, what are you doing now? She could have gone to Ruli County to cultivate, but she didn't come. Flowers bloom and fade in their own time, always depending on the Lord of Spring? When will the flower of love in my heart finally bloom?
Aying obediently stayed in the study, searching for information online and doing her homework.
I lay quietly in the wicker chair, with my Walkman headphones in my ears. Enya's songs, both melancholic and poignant, filled my heart. Unfortunately, because Aying disliked Enya, saying she was an old nun or a spinster with no sense of the times, I didn't turn on my brand-name amplifier and stereo to really enjoy the music.
At 1:15 PM, Aying called me into the study, saying that she had hidden a letter on the computer that she had written to me over an entire afternoon, and asked me to find it, as it was her life's secret and happiness.
"Such a little girl, always wasting her time and energy on meaningless little thoughts," I muttered to myself, not really paying attention.
Another day passed just like that. After dinner in the evening, I said to Aying:
“You stay home, I’ll go check on Ah Yin. He’s still a student, we can’t let anything happen to him.”
Holding an umbrella, I went out. The cement road on the ground began to flow with water, reflecting the city's neon lights in a dazzling and bizarre way. Reality and dreams immediately became elusive, and people in the rain were like butterflies in Zhouzhuang.
After walking about fifty meters, I heard a pattering sound behind me. I turned around and saw Ying. She was wearing a light blue trench coat and ran to my umbrella. The rain had wet her hair, and her long eyelashes were covered with a few small water droplets. She looked so pitiful and lovely. In the rain, her presence made her seem classically poetic.
"Why did you run out? Why didn't you bring an umbrella?!" I said angrily.
“I was worried about you, I forgot. I’ll go with you, I can’t let anything happen to you.” Without saying another word, she leaned close to me, took my arm, and half-pulled, half-pushed me toward her home in Nanta New Village.
It wasn't even eight o'clock yet, and the big iron gate of Xincun Community was already closed. The old man guarding the gate was watching TV inside, looking drowsy, leaving only a small side door open.
As we walked in through the side door, the old man gave us a strange look and said, "Young man, be careful, there are unclean things around Ah Ying's house."
My phone suddenly rang. I was using "DIMI," playing the birthday song. In the quiet, dark night, the most ordinary sounds are the easiest to startle people in this situation.
When I answered the phone, Pearl's voice came through like firecrackers crackling in the air:
"Teacher, where are you? We've arrived at your house. I have something extremely urgent and important to tell you. You must do it, otherwise it will be a terrible mistake and could endanger several lives... Where are you now? We're coming to find you."
"Let's talk about it when I get back. I'm in Nanta New Village."
“Nanta New Village, ah, is it because of that ghost baby? Ah, you must wait for us before you act. Xiaoling and I, along with Lin Caixia, searched for all the evil spirits in the city and found ten. Among them, two vengeful spirits in Nanta New Village have been very active for the past six months—you must wait for us!” I immediately hung up the phone.
They're going to cause trouble again, so to minimize the problems, I decided to take immediate action.
Upon entering the ninth building of the Xincun community, I suddenly realized that, in terms of feng shui, this building was actually a yin building. From the fourth floor to the top eight floors, there was a gloomy atmosphere and a dark mist. In my ears, I could faintly hear a series of mournful and melodious weeping sounds.
How could there be such a massive vengeful spirit? I sensed it, and it was comparable to the spiritual energy field of the black tornado at the Lin family ancestral hall. In other words, this power of mine could transform the entire building into a smaller yin realm, attracting a large number of vengeful spirits and causing even greater destruction.
Ah Ying also felt the chill here. "Wow, it's much colder than before, even more frozen. Luckily, I don't live at home, just hearing this sound is terrifying!"
The entire building was pitch black. Had everyone left, or had they all turned off their lights and gone to sleep? Only Ah Ying's apartment on the sixth floor was brightly lit, making it seem unusually eerie. I channeled my spiritual energy from my dantian to my brow, opening my Heavenly Eye. I then saw countless vengeful spirits drifting around the apartment—some with hoods, some with severed arms, some rotting, some bleeding from all seven orifices, and so on.

Reply [43]: Chapter Twenty: The Ghost Infant
Suddenly, a long and melodious children's song drifted over. Strangely, the song seemed to echo right next to my ears. Coupled with the drizzling rain and eerie wind, it made me feel as if a ghost was breathing beside me.
At the window, a female ghost with delicate features and simple clothes, wearing a white shirt and black skinny jeans, suddenly appeared. She turned around, gave us a cold laugh, and then passed through the wall into the house.
Countless low-level vengeful spirits, some half-formed and others resembling a cloud of black mist, followed closely behind.
Ah Ying screamed and threw herself into my arms, panting, "Brother, let's not go up there! It's too dangerous and scary!"
No, that's not how it is. The ghost's voice was very soft, and it didn't sound as happy as it does now.
