Kapitel 34

The interview was held in a small conference room with three people in total. In the middle sat a woman with a refined and capable appearance, and on either side sat a middle-aged French man and a recorder.

Shu Yi'an took a deep breath and bowed slightly to the three of them. "Good morning, everyone. I am Shu Yi'an."

The woman sitting in the middle gave Shu Yi'an a very formal nod and pointed to the chair in front of her. "Sit down. My name is Julie, and I'm the chief interviewer for this interview."

As she spoke, Julie flipped through the resume in front of her and began to verify with Shu Yi'an one by one, "You graduated from the Foreign Affairs University?"

"Yes."

"You majored in French and worked for two years at the Chinese branch of Anyaer Company?"

Shu Yi'an nodded, "Yes."

Julie slammed the resume down in front of her, a hint of doubt on her meticulously made-up face. "Excuse my intrusion, Ms. Shu, but Anyaer Group is one of the top French companies. Why did you give up your job there to come here? May I know the reason?"

Shu Yi'an placed her hands clasped on the hem of her skirt. Suddenly, she felt a bit resistant and disgusted by Julie's direct question. Or rather, what happened in Anyaer was something Shu Yi'an didn't want to talk about in 2020. But there was nothing she could do. Survival of the fittest was the rule of this industry, and Shu Yi'an had to answer no matter how unwilling she was.

"It's for my personal reasons; I want to change my work environment. I feel that there are many ways of making a living there... that are not suitable for me."

Julie looked at Shu Yi'an, and Shu Yi'an looked at Julie; neither of them spoke for a moment. After about half a minute, Julie finally looked at Shu Yi'an and said to the middle-aged French man beside her, "Lute, try her out."

Next, the man named Lute conducted a series of professional tests on Shu Yi'an. Although Shu Yi'an had been away from school for some time, she was still eager to learn and hadn't given up in the past two years, so she was able to handle Lute's questions with some difficulty. In the end, Lute turned to Julie and nodded. Shu Yi'an only heard him say, "You have some work experience, and your professional level is sufficient, better than those students."

Julie kept twirling the pen in her hand as if making a decision. "Ms. Shu, I'll give you an answer within two days."

"good."

After finishing the interview with Shu Yi'an, Julie rubbed her temples wearily, glanced at her watch, and turned to the two of them, instructing, "It's noon, you two should take a nap first, we'll continue this afternoon."

Pushing open the door to the small conference room, Julie walked to a quiet employee corridor and dialed a number. The phone rang a few times before being answered by a male voice. "Hello?"

Hearing the expected voice, Julie smiled happily. "Hi~ Long time no see, boss."

The man paused for a moment, then said, "What brings you to call me? Thinking of switching jobs?"

Julie breathed a sigh of relief and rested her head against the glass window of the high-rise building. Her expression softened, a far cry from the serious and capable demeanor she displayed during the interview. "Why would I want to switch jobs? I can't handle your methods, President Xiao. It's your subordinates who are the ones who want to leave and have come to me."

As Xiao Ke emerged from the building with his phone in hand, he almost instinctively frowned upon hearing Julie's words, then blurted out a name, "Shu Yi'an?"

Julie hadn't expected Shawn to react so quickly, which only strengthened her conviction. "It seems you and this Miss Shu have quite a history. By the way, what did you do to make her quit her job and come to me? And can I even use her?" Julie's tone became teasing and playful as she finished speaking.

Xiao Kela opened the car door, his expression somewhat indifferent. "There's no question of whether she can be used or not. If you think she's fine, then keep her. Her departure from my company wasn't due to an accident; it was for personal reasons."

Julie immediately laughed, "Then I understand, senior. I'll treat you to dinner another day~ Bye-bye."

Xiao Ke stared at the blacked-out phone screen, pondering Julie's call. It seemed… she hadn't resigned to become a happy full-time housewife as he'd imagined, but simply wanted to leave Anya'er and leave him… Ha! Shu Yi'an, she really had a lot of guts.

Julie's secretary, who was waiting around the corner, saw Julie approaching and hurried over. "Director, there are 45 people for the interviews this afternoon. Do you think we need to cut some out?"

Julie walked forward in her 8-centimeter heels, handing the documents she was holding to the person behind her without turning her head, reverting to her usual shrewd and capable demeanor. "Cancel everything. Notify HR to arrange for Shu Yi'an to start work the day after tomorrow."

————————————————————————————————

When Shu Yi'an came out of the office building, it was midday when the sun was at its strongest. Looking at the time, she realized it was too early to go home. Fortunately, the office building wasn't far from the hospital where Su Ying was staying, so Shu Yi'an immediately decided to go see her.

I bought some of her favorite fruits and some nutritional supplements to help her recover from her bone injury, and went straight to the ward on the 12th floor of the hospital. Su Ying's arm was in a thick cast, and she looked sickly. Only when she saw Shu Yi'an did she show a little joy.

"Lie down quickly." Shu Yi'an put her things on the small cabinet next to her and sat down beside her bed. "How are you? Are you feeling better?"

Seeing Shu Yi'an's sense of relief after surviving the ordeal, Su Ying shook her head, holding back her tears. "I'm fine, but you are. I would have felt so guilty if I had dragged you into this. Luckily, you weren't seriously injured."

Are you alone?

Su Ying shook her head. "My cousin from my hometown came, and I didn't dare tell my parents about this."

Looking at the haggard Su Ying, Shu Yi'an still felt a pang of sadness. Su Ying had lived such a hard and strong life, only to end up being betrayed by her ex-boyfriend, which made her feel more humiliated and ashamed than anything else.

Su Ying glanced at Shu Yi'an, whose face was rosy, and couldn't help but tease her to ease the somber atmosphere, "I really envy you. The Great God was so cool when he came to save you that day. Speaking of which, I should thank him. If he hadn't arranged for me to stay here, I wouldn't have received such thoughtful care."

Shu Yi'an lowered her head shyly, clutching the hem of her skirt with her small hands. "It's more of a coincidence, or perhaps it's just our good fortune."

Su Ying tapped her forehead with her index finger. "Stop acting all innocent after getting such a good deal! To be honest, I think he's really good to you, Yi'an. I've witnessed the whole process from your wedding until now. Although he can't always be with you, his dedication is truly rare. I'm older than you, and I've been with far more men than you have."

"You're so naive that you married such a good man as soon as you met him. You don't know the harsh realities of society. It's all because Chu Mu spoiled you."

"Hey! That's enough." Shu Yi'an puffed out her cheeks and looked at Su Ying. "Why do you make it sound like he saved the world and I'm the ultimate monster?"

Su Ying joked with her for a few moments, and the two started chatting about random things. In the afternoon, the nurse came to change the IV. Shu Yi'an, worried that Su Ying might want to take a nap, quickly said goodbye. "You should rest. I'll come see you another day."

After leaving the hospital and getting into the car, Shu Yi'an sat on the steering wheel, somewhat lost in thought. Her mind kept replaying Su Ying's words to her.

Is it really as she said? Is it because he was the first person she met, and he spoiled and protected her for two years, that she is so insecure?

As I was lost in thought, my phone buzzed. It was from that Mr. So-and-so I had just been thinking about…

He sounded quite pleased on the other end of the phone. "Where are you? Did you pass the interview?"

Shu Yi'an absentmindedly hummed in agreement, "I haven't decided whether to use me or not..."

Chu Mu laughed even harder after hearing this, turned around and left the building, gesturing for his secretary to go first. "That's perfect, I'll take you out for dinner tonight, you go home and wait for me."

No sooner had he finished speaking than someone came up and handed Chu Mu an express package. "Deputy Director Chu, this is an urgent package from Germany."

Hearing the voice from the other end, Shu Yi'an quickly replied, "Okay, I understand. You go ahead and get busy."

Chu Mu frowned as he looked at the package, which did not resemble an official document. He casually flipped it over and saw that the sender's name was clearly written as Tao Yunjia.

The author has something to say: This afternoon I suddenly got into the mood and wrote a passage about Miss Shu leaving Chu Mu. As I was writing, damn it, I actually cried.
