Geisterreich - Kapitel 13
“Wenshan, don’t ask anything yet. I’ll explain it to you as I go. You just need to watch and listen,” Lu Kang said.
Wenshan nodded blankly, as if he were truly sleepwalking.
Lu Kang turned off the room lights and turned on the TV. Wen Shan's silhouette immediately appeared on the screen; he was leaning against a tree trunk.
Lu Kang explains: "At this moment, Feng Xinhua's vital energy is beginning to take over your body..."
A moment later, he started walking, walking continuously without stopping, his steps even. Upon reaching the hospital dormitory building, Wenshan went straight inside. The camera didn't follow him; it simply focused on the window on the third floor. Then, the television turned on, followed by even footsteps, then knocking, the door opening, a scream, and silence.
"The sound is coming from a recorder on your body. I can't follow it, so I can only listen to the sound."
The scene remains a window, and then the audio begins a conversation between Wenshan, or rather, Feng Xinhua and Zhao Fenqiang.
"You remember this part, right?" "Mmm..." Dark Chinese Mountain responded.
Then a loud bang was heard, and soon the scene shifted to the front gate, where Wenshan walked out, looking as quiet as if he were asleep, walking as if no one was around.
"You walked back like this, and I followed you in my car. The footage was very shaky because the camera was mounted on the car; I fixed it on the hood. Actually, Feng Xinhua was quite nice to you. He had something very important to do tonight, but he insisted on taking you home, which I didn't expect."
When Wenshan returned to his doorstep, he stopped following, and a tracking device appeared on the screen.
"The real show is about to begin. This tracking device isn't for you; it's for Feng Xinhua." Even in the darkness, one could still sense the smugness in Lu Kang's tone.
A moment later, the little blue dot on the tracker suddenly jumped and moved quickly to the upper right corner. Then the sound of a car starting could be heard, and the image began to shake, but the tracker's camera lens remained visible. The little blue dot then moved from the right side to the center in front.
"I had caught up with it by then."
About twenty minutes later, the little blue dot stopped moving, and the car moved forward a little and then stopped.
"You probably wouldn't believe it, but I expected it a long time ago. I followed him to Feng Xinhua's doorstep. The main character is about to make his appearance, so be careful."
Because Wenshan had promised Lu Kang not to speak, he suppressed his many questions and kept his eyes fixed on the screen.
The camera panned a few times before revealing the door to the Feng family's house. Wenshan was very familiar with it.
A long time passed, or perhaps not too long, but it felt like an eternity to Wenshan. Suddenly, the door opened, and a straight figure stepped out, moving stiffly and slowly, like a robot.
"Who is that?" Wen Shan asked, unable to contain his astonishment.
"Zombie".
"Ah—you mean... Feng... Feng..." Wenshan was so frightened that his tongue got tied, and he couldn't say the last two words.
“Not bad,” Lu Kang said calmly.
The figures in the video began to walk, heading towards one side of the road.
"Why not jump?" Wenshan asked, getting to the point where he forgot about the verbal agreement they had just made.
“That’s a movie, this is a documentary,” Lu Kang said dismissively.
Wenshan fell silent. The figure on the screen walked mechanically, silently along the side of the road. Occasionally, passersby would brush past him, and a few would even turn around to look at his back with strange expressions. Wenshan wondered what they would think if they knew that they had just encountered a person who had been dead for more than half a month.

Reply [22]: "You will see his face in a moment. I drove past him on purpose and passed by him."
Sure enough, the scene suddenly accelerated, due to Lu Kang's car speeding up. In the instant it passed the zombie, a face appeared on the screen—muscles withered, bluish-gray, with disheveled hair obscuring most of it, and lips that, due to muscle contraction, exposed all the teeth and gums.
Wenshan suddenly felt a violent spasm in his stomach, with acidic liquid surging up from his empty stomach. He clenched his fists tightly, trying to distract himself so that he wouldn't vomit on the spot.
The scene gradually receded into the distance, and then stopped.
"I waited for him to walk by, and after I got a close-up of his face, I focused on following him. Actually, I knew where he was going." Lu Kang couldn't help but smugly say this today.
Feng Xinhua's body continued its journey without stopping, turning several corners before arriving at a large courtyard. It paused briefly and then walked to the left inside the gate. At this point, the scene went completely dark.
Lu Kang explained, "At this point, I stopped the car and quietly followed him. Guess where he went? It was a garden. When I turned the corner of the courtyard, I saw Feng Xinhua's body lying on the ground. I suddenly realized that his soul had left his body. I quickly checked my pocket and found that the tracking device was still in the car, so I ran back to get it."
Soon the tracker's screen appeared on the screen, with the small blue dot bobbing up and down in the center.
"It turned out that after it detached from the body, it went upstairs by itself. I was very puzzled at the time. What did it want to do? I originally thought it would go directly to Wang Taiyan to retrieve its kidney, but I didn't know how it wanted to retrieve it."
The image remained of the tracker, the little blue dot jumping around for a while before stopping. Soon it started jumping again, and the image suddenly moved away from the tracker, swaying to the entrance of the courtyard's staircase.
"What I'm most satisfied with is this movement. For some reason, I just felt that it was coming downstairs, so I subconsciously aimed at the stairwell. I was right. Look who's there?"
As soon as Lu Kang finished speaking, a figure appeared on the screen.
"Wang Taiyan!" Wen Shan exclaimed in surprise. Although he had only met the bureau chief a few times, he still had a deep impression of him.
In the picture, Wang Taiyan seems to be still in a sweet dream, with his eyes closed, a smile on his lips, and his big belly looks like it's about to burst out of his narrow blue pajamas.
“He has been possessed by Feng Xinhua,” Lu Kang said calmly from the side.
What does it want to do?
"You'll see when you keep watching, it's very bloody." Lu Kang's words made Wen Shan clench his fists again, his nails digging deep into his skin, but he didn't feel any pain at the moment.
Wang Taiyan turned and walked into the garden. Wen Shan saw that his shadow was long and ghostly. He continued walking until he came to the corpse lying on the ground, and then knelt down in front of the corpse.
The image was then adjusted, first by adjusting the focus, making it clearer, but the silhouette was still unclear, making it difficult to discern Wang Taiyan's facial expression. Wen Shan secretly admired Lu Kang's courage; at this critical moment, he still thought to adjust the focus.
After kneeling on the ground, Wang Taiyan slowly took off his clothes, groped around on the ground for a while, and picked up a thin, long stick. He couldn't tell what material it was made of. What happened next was something Wen Shan would never forget.
Wang Taiyan gestured a few times on his large belly with a stick, then slowly pierced it inch by inch on the left side. Blood gushed out instantly from both sides, splattering around him.
Wenshan's stomach started convulsing violently again. He hadn't eaten anything all morning, and several times he opened his mouth but nothing came out, leaving him with a sour taste.
