Inconceivable - Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Ray gave her a grateful smile.

Barry was furious at being rebuffed, but couldn't find any reason to cause trouble, so he suddenly reached out and pressed a knob on the stereo.

"What kind of garbage is this!"

What was originally pleasant music suddenly turned into a frenetic rock and roll, with a distinct rhythm that made you want to dance to the beat.

Stimulated by the music, Barry yanked open the sunroof, leaned out, and screamed wildly…

The car sped along the highway, its headlights piercing the night.

The car was noisy with rock music. Barry was chugging his drink and shouting wildly.

He suddenly lost his grip, and the bottle fell into the car, spilling yellow liquid everywhere and making a mess, startling everyone.

"What's wrong with you? What's going on?" Julie shouted unhappily.

"Watch out!" Barry suddenly yelled out of the blue.

The car seemed to have hit something, and amidst screams from the crowd, Ray quickly turned the wheel, causing the car to spin on the road and turn around.

Barry asked worriedly, "What is that?"

"I don't know," Ray said, still shaken.

"Is everyone alright?" That was Helen's voice.

Ray hesitated before guessing, "It should be an animal."

Barry covered his face in frustration and shrank back into the back seat. Helen noticed the strangeness on his face in alarm: "You're bleeding."

"

Barry touched his forehead: "It's not my blood."

Ray: "It must be a dog."

Barry suddenly remembered a more serious problem for him and jumped out of the car: "God, my car!"

!

Everyone got out of the car. The dented front of the vehicle reminded them that the incident might be much more serious than they had imagined, as the exhaust pipe was covered in blood.

Barry roared at Ray in a fit of rage, "Why weren't you watching the road?"

Ray was somewhat at a loss and argued, "It suddenly pounced out; I didn't see it."

Julie looked at the mangled state of the car and shook her head: "It couldn't have been a dog."

“It might be a deer.” Barry was only concerned about his car.

Ray suddenly realized that all of this was caused by this drunkard. He angrily shoved Barry:

You dropped the bottle. I just…

Barry: "My dad will kill me."

Helen rushed over and pulled Barry back from his impulsive act: "Was it an accident?"

Julie, who had been silent until now, asked worriedly, "Where is it? If it's a deer, where did it go?"

Ray was also completely bewildered: "Maybe they ran away?"

What else could it be? It's so unfair to treat it like this. Julie said apologetically, "I hope so."

"I'm glad it wasn't killed."

"How do we tell this lie before Dad finds out? We need to find a repair shop right away," Barry urged everyone.

"Let's go."

Ray: "Let's go."

Julie suddenly stopped, stared at something ahead, and cried out, "Oh my God!"

Everyone followed her gaze. It was dark by the roadside, and they couldn't see anything. Julie ran forward and pulled out a man's rain boot. A bright bloodstain on it gleamed dark brown in the moonlight.

Everyone was so frightened that they didn't speak for a long time.

“It’s impossible,” Helen whispered.

Ray's face was completely bloodless; he just kept screaming, "Oh my God! Oh my God!"

Julie looked around, puzzled. "I...I don't see anyone."

Barry comforted him, "It's impossible..." Suddenly, he thought of something and immediately returned to the car.

Beside the car, open the trunk...

Julie threw away the rain boot, sighed deeply, and said, "Oh dear, how could this happen..."

Barry interrupted Julie: "Look at the road over there!"

Julie immediately understood. The car had braked suddenly on the road, causing it to turn around. In other words, they were now looking in the front of the car. If they had hit something or someone, they should have looked in the opposite direction.

Barry offered no further explanation, only saying, "Come with me."

Julie closed her eyes and whispered a prayer: "Lord, please!"

The four people formed a fan shape and searched in the direction the car had come from. Suddenly, Julie screamed again!

Everyone hurriedly looked in the direction she pointed and saw a person lying motionless by the roadside.

Ray was almost in tears, repeatedly explaining to everyone, "I didn't see him, I..."

oath……"

No one paid him any attention; everyone was shocked by what they were seeing.

"Is he dead?" Ray asked, his voice trembling with tears.

No one could answer his question.

"I don't know," Julie said on behalf of everyone.

Barry wanted to step forward, but immediately stepped back and said to the others, "Let's see... let's see if he has..."

pulse."

Julie was so startled that she quickly took a step back and waved her hands, saying, "Ah, no..."

Ray hurriedly stepped back and shouted, "That...that's when I bumped into him..."

Barry and Julie quickly stopped him: "Go now!"

Ray had no choice but to walk over slowly, his movements stiff and sluggish, like a toddler learning to walk.

The moonlight shone on the man's face, which was covered in blood, as if it had been splattered with strawberry jam, making him look ferocious and terrifying.

Ray approached him little by little, seemingly worried that the man who had been hit might suddenly stand up and pounce on him. But his worries were in vain; the man, his face covered in blood, remained motionless.

“I think…he…is dead,” Ray said, his voice sounding utterly helpless.

Barry screamed like a madman, "Damn it! Fucking hell!" Then he suddenly burst into laughter.

At this moment, the laughter sounded especially terrifying.

Julie regained her composure and looked again at the unfamiliar face in the moonlight—in truth, even if it were an acquaintance, the shape of the face would be indistinguishable at this moment. Then, she asked softly, "Who is he?"

The question was clearly absurd. Ray shook his head and said, "I don't know, his face was a bloody mess."

..."

"What is he doing on the highway?" Barry asked angrily, as if the highway were his private property.

Helen had been too frightened to utter a sound until she suddenly interjected, "We need to call the police and an ambulance..."

…As she spoke, she walked toward the car.

Barry quickly grabbed her arm: "What are you doing? He's already dead."

Julie could not accept this conclusion because the concept of death is not something that can be made lightly, and she immediately retorted:

"You're not a doctor, so you can't make that conclusion. That should be done by a doctor."

Barry panicked: "Julie, can you use your brain for once? We're doomed if we call the police!"

"But that was just an accident!"

Ray stopped the two of them: "Let's think about it some more, okay?"

Julie glared at him: "What's there to think about? He was crossing the street late at night, wasn't he? We didn't drink..."

"You weren't drinking and speeding, were you?"

Ray stammered, "But... there's alcohol in the car..."

Julie: "But you're not drunk."

“But…but they won’t believe I’m the driver!” Ray almost cried out.

Barry immediately chimed in, "It's my car!" he exclaimed dejectedly, "They..."

They'll be watching me like the plague.

Helen stood far enough away from the body to avoid it, but she had heard the entire conversation clearly. She offered words of comfort.

"No, it won't." Actually, she had no idea how the police would handle this kind of accident, but to her...

Calling the police is the only and best option.

"You're kidding!" Barry shouted, storming toward Helen. "I'm this drunk!"

I'm dead!

Helen hugged him: "If we call the police and tell the truth, they will believe us."

Barry shook his head: "No, let's...go."

Julie was shocked: "Leave? You...you're crazy?"

Ray looked at the car and shook his head, saying, "The front is dented, and there's blood everywhere..."

“We can wash it clean!” Barry said eagerly.

“What nonsense are you talking about?” Julie said, annoyed. “We’re calling the police.”

"We don't have time to listen to your bullshit!" Barry roared angrily. "Understand? We have to..."
