Chapter 13

"It seems I'm experiencing what these prisoners went through before they died." Lu Shi's initially anxious heart gradually calmed down. No wonder this chair had such a strong sense of resentment.

Who knows how many people have died in this chair!

Dr. Liu pushed up his black-rimmed glasses with his left hand, which wasn't holding the syringe, and said with a regretful tone:

"I'm sorry, you have no choice. But I assure you on humanitarian grounds that you will not die."

Dr. Liu sneered, making no attempt to hide the hatred in his eyes.

The syringe needle was sharp and gleaming. It was aimed at Lu Shi's collarbone and then plunged in hard.

"Is the pain... real?" Lu Shi hadn't expected that he wasn't just a bystander; the pain he felt after the needle pierced his skin was so realistic.

Unfortunately, he is currently unable to check his physical condition by opening his personal panel.

"Dr. Liu, can you let me go now?" a prisoner pleaded.

"No, no, no, this is just the beginning!" Dr. Liu pulled a sharp scalpel from the inner pocket of his lining.

He ran the back of his knife across Lu Shi's face: "Let me think, what crime have you committed?"

He raised his head arrogantly, looking down at the prisoners he had tied up with a look of hatred.

Lu Shi had no doubt that when he judged prisoners in this way, he must have felt like a supreme god who could arbitrarily control a person's life and death.

"I remember now." Dr. Liu suddenly grabbed a scalpel and stabbed Lu Shi in the abdomen.

The sudden, excruciating pain almost made Lu Shi faint.

He couldn't help but lower his eyes. When he saw his own abdomen, most people would probably have gone crazy by now.

However, Lu Shi managed to remain rational. Looking at the gaping wound in his abdomen and the gushing blood, he whispered:

"Although the pain was real, I didn't feel any loss of life. In other words, my physical body was still alive and well."

Once Lu Shi understood this, he no longer found it so terrifying.

He was more like an observer of an illusion.

"You were drunk that day, weren't you?" Dr. Liu pulled out the knife, letting the blood from the blade drip onto his leather shoes.

"You go to a convenience store and see a pretty girl. There are only the two of you in the store. So you get lustful and want to take advantage of the night when no one is around to molest her."

"But you didn't expect that this shop assistant would dare to defy you. So you got angry and vented all your pent-up anger on her."

Another stab, stirring within the lifeless, rotting flesh of Lu Shi's abdomen: "Just like me, stab after stab, I killed this innocent girl."

Dr. Liu leaned down and whispered in Lu Shi's ear, "Does it hurt? Did you think it would hurt this much when you killed her?"

"But you were spared the death penalty because of a medical certificate proving your history of mental illness."

Is this another act of upholding justice? Lu Shi watched as Dr. Liu's figure gradually disappeared, his back looking even thinner.

The abdominal pain abruptly stopped. Lu Shi thought, "This prisoner must be dead now, so he can get out of this illusion."

With a thud, Lu Shi saw a corpse split off from his body and fall to the ground.

The familiar wound on the abdomen clearly identified it as the prisoner's corpse.

However, something unexpected happened to Lu Shi: a person crawled out of the corpse that was clearly dead half a minute later.

The bloodstains on the ground evaporated instantly, turning into a clump of viscous sewage.

A person who had died and come back to life appeared.

As the living person landed with their back to the ground, they stretched out their hands and stroked their own body.

It hesitated for a moment, then let out a strange cry.

It sniffed hard, and seemed to have spotted Lu Shi behind it, and began to slowly turn around.

Unfortunately, before Lu Shi could see the face of this person who had come back from the dead, he woke up.

Both Dr. Liu and the living person have disappeared.

A few seconds earlier, viewers in the live stream also saw the tentacle, which had already burrowed most of Lu Shi's body, emerge again.

Its once-open lips were now tightly closed, as if it hadn't gotten what it wanted.

"Is it over?" Lu Shi immediately stood up from his chair. He first checked his body and found that there wasn't even a mark on his wrist.

It seems that his body was perfectly fine during the time his consciousness was under control.

Lu Shi then opened his personal panel, where his stamina remained unchanged, further confirming his judgment.

The only sanity value dropped silently by five points, but it still remained above 90.

"I see." Lu Shi turned around and glanced at the now silent chair, as if he could hear the other person cursing him inwardly.

This chair, like the vengeful spirit in the downstairs corridor, can only be attacked mentally.

It makes sense; anyone who witnesses themselves being killed and then having a living person split off would suffer a mental breakdown.

But Lu Shi, as the Demon Lord, was well-informed and had long been immune to the dead.

"Thank you." Before leaving the pitch-black room, Lu Shi turned back to the chair and thanked it.

"Without you, I might have even mistaken the prisoner's identity."

If chairs could talk, they would definitely be telling Lu Shi to get out of there.

As soon as Lu Shi stepped out of the room, he clearly heard a sigh coming from the chair.

Was it really alive? Lu Shi didn't linger for long, probably because there were too many strange things in this prison.

Where are you going?

A familiar voice came from the room.

Lu Shi suddenly turned his head.

He saw himself sitting in a chair, his face pale.

He said, "You have so much blood on your stomach, are you alright?"

A note from the author:

Thank you so much for your support! I will continue to work hard!

Chapter 14

☪ True Plague Prison

Lu Shi immediately lowered his head. When he saw his abdomen, which was gushing blood, he could clearly feel his sanity level dropping.

Even more ridiculous, a scalpel was stuck in his abdomen.

He immediately tried to access his personal panel, but failed.

"System, system, are you there?"

Still no response.

"Could it be because..." Lu Shi looked at the face opposite him that belonged to him, and slowly calmed down: "I've become someone else now?"

"This..." Suddenly feeling dizzy, Lu Shi almost fell to the ground.

After barely managing to support himself by leaning against the wall, Lu Shi realized he was becoming increasingly weak. Was it because this body was about to die?

Lu Shi slowly exhaled a breath of stale air and began to look around.

It was only then that Lu Shi noticed a mirror hanging on the other wall. He had been there for so long without noticing it at all.

Walking up to the mirror, Lu Shi glanced inside and saw an unfamiliar face looking at him.

Of course, he wasn't entirely unfamiliar with the man; he had seen this burly man before, back in prison.

"Are you alright?" Lu Shi asked with concern, sitting obediently in the chair, looking like an elegant immortal. "You're so badly injured, don't run around."

Lu Shi realized that his life was rapidly slipping away and he had to find a way to regain his body.

He walked step by step to Lu Shi and grasped the cold hand that once belonged to him:

Do you know who you are?

"I, I am..." [Lu Shi] first widened his eyes, as if surprised that someone would care about others before dying, and then slowly opened his mouth:

“I have a wife, and she loves me very much. We, we should be living a happy and fulfilling life…”

“No, none of that is right.” Lu Shi interrupted the other person. It was clearly the same face, but he could tell that this was a completely different person. “You’re wrong. You’re not me. You’re long dead.”

"I'm not dead! You, you're lying!"

[Lu Shi] screamed at the top of his lungs, while Lu Shi sitting in front of him rolled his eyes. How could he be so agitated!

Before Lu Shi could ask the philosophical question of why he wasn't himself, Lu Shi pulled the scalpel from his own abdomen and precisely stabbed it into Lu Shi's neck.

[Lu Shi] stared wide-eyed, his body convulsing uncoordinatedly, before dying unwillingly.

Even though he knew it was fake, the Demon Lord felt a moment of unease after killing himself.

Lu Shi was originally 99% certain, but after seeing Lu Shi die, that certainty became 100%. It's simple: if it were him, he wouldn't have died so easily.

The deceased Lu Shi slumped off the chair and slid to the floor, lying there quietly.

Half a minute later, the corpse started moving again.

At this moment, Lu Shi placed his hand on the corpse, and something miraculous happened: he found himself merging with the corpse.

He's back!

"I became someone else because I witnessed another person die and come back to life. So if I want to change back, I naturally have to experience my own death and rebirth."

Lu Shi didn't forget to explain the principle to the viewers in the live broadcast room.

He then brought up his personal panel and, unsurprisingly, found that his sanity had finally dropped to 86. However, it was still within a safe range.

This time, Lu Shi practically walked backwards out of the eerie room. He made sure there was no one left on the chair before closing the door.

This series of actions led to a surge in Lu Shi's live stream popularity, and his ranking on the Silver Hall leaderboard rose from ninth to seventh.

Lu Shi glanced at the comments, and after his vanity was satisfied, he immediately turned them off.

He was finally going to face the laboratory.

All the strange phenomena here probably originated from this laboratory.
