Chapter 45

Otherwise, let's see what clothes my sister has first.

Wushuang climbed down from the drum stool and ran to the chest with her little legs. A copper lock was loosely hanging on the rectangular camphor wood chest. She tiptoed to remove the lock, but found that it was impossible to open the chest lid at her height. So she had to run back to the table and huff and puff as she rolled a drum stool over to stand on.

There are copper supports on both the left and right sides of the inside of the trunk lid. It will automatically lock when pushed to a position perpendicular to the bottom of the trunk, so you don't have to worry about the lid accidentally closing and injuring someone when you are looking for clothes.

Wushuang was short, and although she could lift the lid of the box while standing on the drum stool, she couldn't push it to a vertical position. She stood on tiptoe, stretched out her arms, and pushed forward with all her might.

It's almost there.

Wushuang tried even harder to raise her toes higher and higher.

Suddenly, the drum stool beneath her feet was overturned, and she fell cleanly into the trunk. The trunk lid slammed shut above her head with a loud bang.

Wuxia suddenly woke up with a start.

"What's wrong?" She looked around blankly and found the room was quiet as usual, with nothing that shouldn't be there, so she gently patted her chest and lay back down.

She thought the thieves had brought muskets to rob her; that loud noise must have been a nightmare.

Wuxia pulled the summer blanket up to her chest, intending to take a nap and go back to sleep.

The bed seems unusually spacious today.

She turned over, facing outwards from the bed, blinked twice, and then closed her eyes again.

ah!

wrong!

Everything in the room was normal; nothing that shouldn't be there was there, but everything that should be there was also gone.

Wushuang is gone!

Wuxia jumped off the bed in a panic, completely abandoning any ladylike demeanor.

Nan Ping also heard the loud noise and just then lifted the curtain to come in.

"Have you seen Shuangshuang? She mischievously ran out?" Wuxia asked.

Nanping asked in bewilderment, “The Third Miss was just there,” she pointed to the dressing table, “I didn’t see her leave.”

If they didn't go out, how could they disappear?

Did they go to the bathroom?

Wuxia slipped on her soft-soled embroidered shoes and ran into the bathroom. It was empty all around, except for the toilet, bathtub and clothes rack that were always there. There was no sign of Wushuang.

Nanping walked behind the octagonal table and helped up the drum stool that had rolled over on the carpet.

Could that noise have been caused by the drum stool tipping over?

But there's a long-haired carpet on the floor.

Nanping lifted the drum stool and slammed it onto the ground with a gentle thud, producing only a soft "thud," completely different from what she had heard before.

Wuxia walked out of the washroom looking utterly dejected.

Although Wushuang is young, she is already very sensible and knows how to protect her. However, she was so focused on sleeping that she didn't even realize her younger sister was missing.

"Quickly, send people out to search," Wuxia instructed Nanping. "Don't forget to go to the front yard and inform Father."

"Eldest Miss, don't worry," Nan Ping comforted her. "The courtyard gates aren't open yet at this hour. Even if the Third Miss runs out of her room, she can't get out of the main courtyard. Maybe she remembered something and went back to her own room or went to find Madam."

Wuxia thought Nanping was right, so she grabbed a dress from the screen and put it on before heading outside to find it herself.

Just as I reached the door, I heard a series of muffled thuds behind me.

The two stopped and suspiciously followed the sound to the trunk.

Nanping suddenly lifted the lid of the box and saw Wushuang squatting pitifully on a pile of colorful clothes, her little hands constantly banging on the side of the box.

"Shuangshuang, what did you do in the box?" Wuxia quickly bent down and picked her younger sister up. "I thought you were missing, I was so scared I almost jumped out of my skin."

The wardrobe was stuffy, and Wushuang's face turned red from holding her breath. It took her a while to catch her breath.

She nestled in Wuxia's arms, sobbing, "I wanted to help my sister choose clothes, but the drum stool tipped over..." How embarrassing, she couldn't continue.

"No wonder I saw a drum stool lying on its side next to the table just now," Nan Ping suddenly realized.

Wuxia burst into laughter: "You're so cute." She pinched Wushuang's round little face, "You were looking for clothes but ended up locking yourself in the wardrobe... hahaha..."

With tears still clinging to her eyelashes, Wushuang stared blankly at her sister, who was laughing uncontrollably.

Wuxia finally realized she needed to save face for her sister and didn't tell anyone about it, but she still couldn't help laughing even after the family got into the carriage.

Wushuang, who was riding in the same car with her, sat by the door and, for the first time, did not cling to her sister, but instead kept as much distance as possible.

Wuxia stretched out her arm and pulled her into her arms: "Don't sit there, be careful not to fall on the bumpy road. It's not like falling on your clothes where it's soft and won't hurt you." She could say the first two sentences seriously, but when she remembered the scene of scooping Wushuang out of the trunk, she couldn't help but laugh again.

Wushuang struggled angrily, but she was no match for her older sister's strength and could only obediently be held.

Even if the body is not free, the mouth is still free.

"Are you really my sister? Stop making fun of me." Wushuang protested dejectedly.

That's so hurtful to my self-esteem!

No sooner had he finished speaking than the car door was suddenly pushed open.

Wushuang looked up and saw that it was her cousin, Wuhui.
