Ghost Bride 2 - Chapter 21
"Don't talk nonsense." I'm annoyed too!
"But..." she sighed, watching the child's retreating figure, "That child is quite pitiful, his life is ruined... Aunt? Did he mistake you for Little Dragon Girl?"
I had no interest in listening to her jokes. I looked around, but the woman who had just spoken to me had vanished without a trace.
"I'm so tired from running..." she muttered as she took off her jacket, revealing a black and white sports vest.
"All the calories were burned?"
"almost!"
"Then let's go back!"
“It’s protesting here!” she pointed to her belly. “It needs a chicken leg!”
"Forget it! Go back now," I urged her.
A wind has picked up, a chilly wind.
"Who said I was joking? I'm serious! KFC is calling me! You go back first!" With that, she ran towards the south gate without looking back...
It's almost lights out, and Apple still hasn't returned.
After washing up, I sat on the bed reading. The white gauze curtains were occasionally lifted by the wind, bringing a cool breeze to the room.
The clock was about to strike midnight. I glanced at the door: "That girl, isn't she coming back yet?"
I got out of bed to close the window and inadvertently saw two people standing by the birch tree across the street—Apple and Jeep. Hmm? Stubborn to the end, they should make up! I wasn't trying to peek, but just before the window closed, I heard a crisp "snap!"
A chill ran down her spine. She opened the window again and saw Big Jeep rubbing his cheek! Apple turned to run, but Big Jeep, without a word, pulled her into his arms, yelling, "Hit me! Hit me! If you cripple me or make me stupid, you'll be responsible for the rest of my life!"

My heart was pounding, so I quickly closed the window and ignored their commotion.
I left the dormitory door ajar and went to sleep.
At three o'clock in the morning.
I suddenly opened my eyes: the white gauze curtains were fluttering again, looking like a fleeting phantom in the night. Strange! Didn't I close the windows before I went to sleep?
I got up to close the window, making sure the latch was in place, before going back to sleep. Before climbing into bed, I glanced at Apple's bed—it was empty. Why wasn't she back?
Looking up again, I saw that the door was locked.
"It's probably because of the strong wind!" I reassured myself, and opened the door again, intending to leave it ajar. The curtain was flapping loudly. Was the wind really that strong? Just as I was about to lift the curtain and hang it back up, I suddenly noticed that there were two legs underneath the curtain. A pair of bare feet.
My heart suddenly clenched.
Who is it? Why is it standing in front of my door in the middle of the night? I'm wide awake, and my neck is so stiff I can't turn it.
I reminded myself to stay calm! Stay calm! Stay calm!
He stretched out his trembling hand, slowly reaching out, ready to take a desperate gamble and lift the curtain...
Suddenly, the lights in the hallway went out.
It was pitch black.
"ah--"
A scream echoed throughout the entire building.
I grabbed the wooden door and slammed it shut with all my might! I leaned against the door, panting heavily.
I dare not look.
I cannot overcome this psychological deterrent yet.
I thought this small dormitory was safe, but could that ordinary wooden door really keep everything out? Just then, a pair of hands reached through the other side of the door, sharp nails slicing across my shoulder, and I felt a stinging pain…
I fled in a panic, leaving that door.
I looked closely, rubbed my eyes, and opened them wide to see, but the door was still a door; there was no hand that had come through it. I pressed my hand tightly to my chest; my heart was about to jump out of my chest.
Then, the door opened.
I saw a familiar face: "Apple..." I was so excited that I wanted to run over, but my legs went weak.
Apple stared wide-eyed in surprise: "Why are you sitting on the ground to greet me?"
I asked her nervously, "When you came back just now, did you see anyone standing at the dormitory entrance?"
"No!" she blurted out. "The hallway is empty, there's not a single person in it!"
I thought for a moment, then sighed: "The light in the hallway just went out, it was pitch black, how could you possibly see anything?"
"Are you talking nonsense?" She reached out and touched my forehead. "The lights in the hallway have been on the whole time!"
I stared into her eyes in horror: "What did you say?"
"If you don't believe me, I'll open the door and show you." She stood up and went to open the door.
Everything was peaceful outside; the lights flickered dimly, and the curtains still danced in the wind, accompanied only by a monotonous whooshing sound…
Monday morning.
I reserved two seats in the lecture hall on the tenth floor. Apple didn't sleep well and woke up late this morning.
By the time she rushed over in a panic, the literature elective class had already started. I moved the textbook that was taking up my seat over, and she sat down with a thud, yawning twice in a row.
The lecturer on the stage was lecturing on the classic novel "Jin Ping Mei," and when he got to the exciting part, he talked about the battle of wits between Pan Jinlian and Li Ping'er. The students below listened with great interest, and my brother and I whispered to each other while hiding our books in front of our heads.
I asked her, "Where did you go last night? You came back so late?"
She deliberately lowered her voice: "They went to the small inn outside the South Gate."
"Huh?" I almost jumped up.
"Don't overreact, we didn't do anything."
"Oh." Composing herself, she looked back and didn't see the Jeep. "He didn't come to class this time?"
"I guess he's repenting in his dorm?"
"Repent for what?"
“Even if he doesn’t repent, he has to consider his image; he won’t be able to get out of this anytime soon.”
Why?
Her face flushed red as she said to me, "Last night, the Jeep tried to drag me into doing something naughty, but I slapped it so hard it fell under the bed..."
"Why don't you hit him?"
"I hit him, a clear red five-fingered mountain." She was a little smug. "I stunned him at the time, and I said I wanted to go back to the dormitory. Unfortunately, the school gates were already closed by then..."
"You used a VPN again?"
"Yeah! It's so cold in the middle of the night, the north wind is howling, and I think he's about to have a runny nose."
"You actually feel sorry for him?"
She pouted and said one word that almost made me faint: "Bullshit!"
Just then, the teacher called her name, and Apple mechanically stood up with a "whoosh": "Here!"
The lecturer asked, "Student, please answer this: who is the author of the book I'm about to talk about, 'The Vinegar Gourd,' and what dynasty does it belong to?"

Apple rolled its eyes and stared at me with a pair of inquisitive eyes.
I received a distress signal and quickly wrote the answer on the back of the book: Author: Master Fuci, Ming Dynasty, date unknown.
"Sit down!" The lecturer was very satisfied with the student's answer and smiled as he offered him a seat.
Apple craned her neck and asked me, "What 'Master of Subduing Females'? Is it from a Jin Yong martial arts novel?"
"You call yourself the Sun Moon Cult! Listen to the lesson now!" I flicked her, urging her to study hard and improve every day.
As I passed the basketball court behind Building 10 after class, I heard dull thuds on the concrete ground.
I tried to take a detour, but Apple pulled me back: "Why should I go around? You didn't do anything wrong. Even if we can't be lovers, we can still be friends!"
Sure enough, Mo Yan was among the crowd running under the basket. I covered my face with my book and walked forward in a muffled voice.
“Fool!” Apple said, “He saw me, how could he not know that it was you standing next to him? How many people in our school are as tall and slender as you?”
I blushed immediately.
She linked her arm with mine and we walked along the edge of the court together: "It's alright! He didn't catch up."
I put down my book and let out a long sigh.
She chuckled, "Actually, that child is a bit like you! You're both a bit silly."
I stepped on a ginkgo leaf shaped like a butterfly wing. I picked it up and examined it closely: "The paulownia trees are stained with yellow, the ginkgo leaves are falling, the Chinese tallow trees and sweetgum trees have turned red, the Chinese pistache and beech trees have turned orange, and the mountain hemp and lacquer trees have turned purplish-red. Autumn has really arrived!"
"You change the subject so quickly! I'm impressed!" she said, playfully nudging me. "How about we play tennis after class this afternoon?"
"tennis?"
"Hmm. Tennis is great for developing your strength, speed, endurance, explosiveness, flexibility, agility, and coordination!" She sighed at Lantian. "Sigh! I love sports so much, but fate is so unkind to me. I didn't get a shapely figure. My legs! When will they grow taller?!"
Nightmares always come unexpectedly.
That night, I fell into the abyss of nightmares again. It was so real that I couldn't distinguish between reality and illusion.
The white walls are perpetually damp, with green moss growing in the grout lines of the tiles, and the surface is sticky and slippery.
Looking down at myself, I saw I was wearing a white dress. Was this dress mine? It felt so unfamiliar, like a white curtain hanging in a window, its hem fluttering in the wind.
A ray of sunlight streamed in through the high skylight, illuminating a spot on the floor and forming a warm-colored square. Beyond that square lay cold, pale blue cement slabs.
Where is this?
This place feels so familiar. The fan-shaped archway, the wet ground, and the dripping sound of water.
"Splash—"
After a deathly silence, the sound of running water suddenly broke the silence. I was startled, and it dawned on me—this was the public bathhouse behind the girls' dormitory! How did I get here?
Stepping into the innermost room, the sound of rushing water stands out starkly against the tranquil environment.
who?
It sounds like someone is singing?
