Virgin blood - Chapter 7

Chapter 7

[ending]

A white ceiling, a round chandelier. When Leng Ruofeng opened his eyes, the familiar surroundings immediately made him realize he was in a hospital. He sat down abruptly, ignoring the IV drip in his body, and rushed into the corridor. But he was immediately stopped by two policemen.

"Please tell me which room the girl I was with is in. I want to see her," Leng Ruofeng asked the police impatiently.

"I'm sorry, you are now an important witness for us and cannot move around freely!" the police officer said.

"I... I just want to see my Bingbing, where is she?" Leng Ruofeng said anxiously, trying to break through the police's obstruction.

Just then, the door to the emergency room not far away opened. Several doctors and nurses came out, and as soon as Leng Ruofeng saw them, he immediately asked loudly, "Doctor, please tell me, how is the girl who was with me..."

Before Leng Ruofeng could finish his question, he choked up. He saw a cart being wheeled out of the emergency room, carrying a person covered in a snow-white sheet, being pushed towards him. Leng Ruofeng felt a vague, inexplicable unease.

"She's the girl you mentioned. We've done everything we could, but she lost too much blood, so..."

"No!" Leng Ruofeng could no longer hear what the doctor was saying and desperately ran towards the car.

The white sheet was pulled back, and Leng Ruofeng's eyes instantly went blank. "Bingbing!!!" Leng Ruofeng cried out, lunging towards Ouyang Bingbing's body, but was forcefully pulled away by the police and doctors.

(One week later...)

"We are very grateful for your contribution to this case. Lu Xiaoming has been sentenced to death for serial killings committed by a psychopath. As for this case, you shouldn't say anything more to others. You should understand what I mean..."

"Alright, Director, you don't need to say anything more. I've been working with Liu Wen for a long time, and I know what to do. You can rest assured about that," Leng Ruofeng said expressionlessly.

"Okay, that's good. Also, there's the matter of Ouyang Bingbing. You know the special nature of this case. Ouyang Bingbing's involvement has put us in a difficult position. From a conventional scientific perspective, it's very difficult to find a suitable charge to convict her. Since she's dead, then everything about her in this case is irrelevant..."

"Director, regarding Ouyang Bingbing..."

Leng Ruofeng, who had intended to interrupt the bureau chief, was instead interrupted by the bureau chief. "Leng Ruofeng, I know you are very sad, and I won't say any more. However, I have a letter she wrote to you before she died."

"A letter? Give it to me now!"

The so-called letter was just a piece of paper with writing on it, folded in half twice. Leng Ruofeng eagerly opened it; inside was a neatly written little poem:

I don't care if I'm crying

Or say goodbye with a smile.

Life is a performance where joy and sorrow are indistinguishable.

And when the light shines on it

I have to sing that

The most difficult scene

Please hold your breath and listen carefully.

Then they cheered for me enthusiastically.

The person I have loved all my life

After the music ended and the crowd dispersed

No matter if I'm crying

Or say goodbye with a smile.

I will always be grateful to have shared the stage with you.

This is Xi Murong's "Aria," except the word "Tai" at the end is in quotation marks. Leng Ruofeng understands that this alludes to the life-and-death experiences and separations they shared on Paotai Mountain. Paotai Mountain holds too many terrible yet unforgettable memories for Ouyang Bingbing and him, but Ouyang Bingbing is fortunate because Leng Ruofeng was there for her during her most lost and helpless moments; and there was also the vow of love between them, though vague, that came from the deepest part of their hearts.

"Ruofeng... let's make the most of our next life!" Ouyang Bingbing's resounding words, filled with love and regret, echoed in Leng Ruofeng's ears once more.

"May your soul never be lost here again!" Leng Ruofeng silently prayed in his heart. Pain once again gripped Leng Ruofeng's already fragile heart. Fate, why is it so cruel?

That evening, Leng Ruofeng returned home, put the little poem in a drawer, thought for a moment, then took it out and pasted it on the wall. In his melancholy, he opened a can of beer, gazing tenderly at the poem—the only thing Ouyang Bingbing had left behind.

Suddenly, Leng Ruofeng froze. A letter, a short poem? Leng Ruofeng immediately took it down and examined it carefully. It was indeed Ouyang Bingbing's handwriting. But how could someone who couldn't even be saved have the ability to write a letter? Leng Ruofeng was suddenly filled with great doubt.

"Ruofeng!"

Just then, someone softly called Leng Ruofeng's name from behind. Startled, Leng Ruofeng trembled and slowly turned his head to look behind him.

***Regarding matters related to "Virgin Blood"***

I spent nearly a month completing my first novel, "Virgin Blood," and I personally think the plot is fairly complete.

Initially, I had a general idea: the writing stemmed from my deep-seated frustration, as well as my hatred and criticism of men who are irresponsible towards women in society. Readers may not have felt this mindset while reading, because in the process of writing, I found myself unconsciously forgiving them. This was inexplicable and contradictory; perhaps many things cannot be absolutely defined. I even began to ponder which category I belong to.

While it's just a story, I'd rather have a real life like this. A simple story is meaningless. While lamenting the tragic fates of Yinglian, Zhuzhu, and Sister Zhu, I can't help but feel sorry and heartbroken for Ouyang Bingbing. It truly breaks my heart.

Although I had a writing plan, the actual writing process almost entirely deviated from my intended path. My original intention of stopping at 30,000 words involuntarily led me to 50,000. Looking back at the story I finished, some plot points surprised even myself; I could never have imagined them if I were just making them up. At times, I felt almost completely immersed in the world, as if I were experiencing it firsthand and writing it down immediately, not even knowing what would happen next. I was entirely following my feelings, like a dream.

Of course, there are still many shortcomings in my writing, which I can feel myself. Originally, I hoped to receive suggestions and even criticisms from readers as I wrote, so that I could continuously improve and move towards better. However, from the beginning until now, not many people have offered such opinions, perhaps because everyone is reluctant to criticize my first work; on the contrary, I have received a lot of encouragement and recognition from everyone, for which I am very grateful, and this is my greatest motivation.

The story is now finished, and I really hope that those who have read it can give me their honest feedback and point out any shortcomings. This will help me avoid similar problems in future stories and make them even more perfect.

I will make corrections to some of the details in "Virgin Blood" and will soon release a revised version of "Virgin Blood," in which the beginning and ending of the story will be changed.

This is only a temporary plan. Due to various reasons, I will be very busy for a while. If I have the opportunity, I will release new works, and I hope all my friends and lurkers will continue to follow. It is truly fate that we have met in this vast world, and I will cherish it.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone again for your support and encouragement.
