Azure Heart Horror Short Story - Chapter 22
As for the group of elderly people who caused trouble the first time, they were just extras they hired. The so-called story was also made up.
As for the eyes and footprints Fang Qing saw at night, they were their masterpieces using fluorescent paint.
"What's with that face?"
“It’s plaster!” An unfamiliar man walked over and answered the question for Merlin.
Mei Lin smiled and said to Fang Qing, "Speaking of which, you have to thank our Detective Zhao. He's my classmate and good friend. He used to be a policeman, and later he started his own detective agency. While you were staying at my house, I asked Old Zhao to investigate. Sure enough, he found out that the real estate agent and the old woman were conspiring to do something illegal. He truly deserves to be called a famous detective!"
Old Zhao smiled sheepishly: "Actually, Meilin provided a lot of clues, which is why I was able to figure out the leads so quickly. I rented a house across from yours and staked it out. I discovered the secret of the security window. Then I interviewed the previous buyers of this house and pieced together their experiences, which made me suspect that someone was playing tricks. Speaking of which, it was Meilin who discovered the plaster ghost face."
"Sister Mei, how are you so smart?" Fang Qing immediately felt much relieved.
"I was actually very scared that day, but the hair stuck to the face gave it away. If your hair was really stuck in the mouth of the face, I might not have suspected anything. The key is that your hair was stuck to the lips. And the glue used had a strong smell. It was super glue. Think about it, if it were really a ghost, why would it use glue? And I scraped some samples with a knife and took them to Lao Zhao for testing. He told me definitively that it was plaster. This means that someone made a plaster face in advance and stuck it to the wall while you were asleep."
Fang Qing suddenly realized: "So that's how it is. But... but I also received an unknown warning phone call, and I saw an old man with only one head outside the door! Were they playing tricks on me too?"
At this point, a police officer spoke up: "Both Grandma Li and Deng Chao confessed that Deng Chao made the call. As for the old man, they first loosened the streetlight, then used a black cloth to hide his body—it was a visual trick to make you believe there was a ghost!"
"But there's something I still don't understand: where did that stench come from?" Merlin also had her own questions.
Old Zhao chuckled: "This might be a bit disgusting to say, but they used water that had been used to soak dead rats to smear the walls and floors of Fang Qing's house..."
Fang Qing and Mei Lin both gagged.
The matter seemed to have come to an end.
Who could have imagined that as the police officers were escorting her downstairs, Old Lady Li suddenly slipped and fell forward, crashing into the stairs and fatally injuring her head.
It happened so suddenly that even the officers, with their lightning-fast reflexes, couldn't stop it. Perhaps this is karma!
But a new problem arises: should we live in this house or not, since we have to pass through this staircase where people have fallen to their deaths every day?
Fang Qing was depressed again.
The crow on the shoulder
Qing had a pair of very special eyes.
From a young age, she noticed that some of the people coming and going on the street had a black crow perched on their shoulder.
At that time, she had no idea what this meant.
It wasn't until she saw her aunt, cousin, and uncle, who all had crows perched on their shoulders, die one after another that she realized: those were the marks of death.
She had a little bit of pride, but her twin sister Per didn't have that potential.
When Qing was ten years old, she saw a black crow perched on her mother's shoulder as she was going on a business trip to Hainan. She cried and clung to her mother's leg, not wanting her to leave.
Finally, Dad and my sister took Mom to the train station.
Mom came back safe and sound.
This was something Qing hadn't expected.
Perhaps it was good fortune that brought them good luck. Qing was very happy; it turned out that things could take a turn for the better.
At the age of sixteen, Qing and Po fell in love with the same boy.
To be precise, I like it.
Both sisters knew each other's feelings, but neither of them said it aloud.
They even made plans to go shopping together.
Qing knew that the bottle of KENZO perfume that Po bought while she was in the bathroom was a gift for him; Po also knew that Qing had secretly bought the new NIKE men's T-shirt under the pretext of going to the bathroom.
The two sisters linked arms, their understanding unspoken.
As Qing squatted down to tie her shoelaces while crossing the zebra crossing, Po stood in front of her. The instant she stood up, she was startled to see a black crow perched on her sister's shoulder.
The crow's bright black eyes gleamed with a cunning light.
"Qing, the light's green, hurry up and go!"
Qing called out, "Sister..."
Per turned around, looking bewildered: "What's wrong?"
"It's nothing." Qing thought for a moment, then subtly increased the distance between herself and Po.
Unexpectedly, her older sister quickly walked back and pressed her shoulder: "Qing, I didn't expect you to choose him instead of your sister."
Qing was startled and stopped in the middle of the road. She turned her head and looked at her shoulder, only to find that the black crow was perched there, while her sister's shoulder was completely bare!
Per's smile held a hint of pain as he quickly walked to the other end of the street.
Qing had never felt so terrified. She ran quickly across the zebra crossing and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Per stood far away from her, his eyes cold.
“Per, you…”
“You think you’re so great just because you can see a crow? But I can move it however I want.” Per’s voice was cold and disdainful.
Before Qing could offer any further explanation, a large pane of glass from an office building on the side of the road fell down and, seemingly by accident, gently sliced off her head.
The crow flew away.
Getting up at night
In the middle of the night, Su Lin was awakened by the urge to urinate.
"Honey, turn on the light..." she called out as she reached out to push the person next to her, only to find that she had missed.
She then remembered that her husband had gone on a last-minute business trip yesterday.
She had no choice but to fumble for the bedside lamp and turn it on, the light stinging her eyes. Squinting through the discomfort, she went to the bathroom.
When she got back, she did something stupid: she turned off the lights before getting into bed.
The stark contrast of light plunged her into complete darkness, but once she crawled into bed, her eyes gradually adjusted.
Only then did she realize that someone was sitting at the foot of the bed.
Startled, she was wide awake and dared not even breathe.
A thief? Impossible, I didn't see anyone when I turned off the lights.
The dark figure sat quietly by the bed, its facial features indistinct, its hairstyle even obscured.
Su Lin dared not turn on the light, fearing that if the thief saw his face, he might be silenced.
She was like a peanut in an oil press, the immense pressure squeezing sweat from her skin, causing her flesh to tear.
Her underwear was soaked in a short while.
The dark figure stood facing her, making no move, but its face seemed to be staring at her the whole time.
What should I do? Should I close my eyes? Otherwise, "he" will know I'm awake just by seeing the light reflected in my pupils...
Su Lin gripped the blanket tightly. Her phone…should she call the police?
She moved her arm very slightly, slowly reaching for her phone under the pillow... but found nothing.
She felt increasingly unable to breathe, what should she do... what should she do?
The dark figure remained motionless, staring at her.
Never mind! Su Lin couldn't stand the oppression anymore. She decided to kick the shadowy figure hard, then turn on the light and rush out the door to call for help.
This series of actions had to be completed in one go. Su Lin secretly adjusted his breathing, trying to store more air to ensure the smooth operation later.
start!
She suddenly kicked off the covers with her legs, jumped out of bed, and turned on the light.
But he kicked at nothing.
The room was brightly lit, and the dark figure had vanished without a trace.
She clutched her heart, which felt like it was about to leap out of her chest, and turned on all the lights in the room.
Check them one by one.
Nothing was gained.
Damn it! You're scaring yourself.
Su Lin poured herself a glass of water to calm her nerves, then turned off the lights one by one.
Only the bedside lamp and her shadow remained to keep her company.
Without thinking, she glanced at the full-length mirror next to the wardrobe.
Something's not right!
When she looked at it more closely, the water glass slipped from her trembling hands.
She has two reflections in the mirror.
But outside the mirror, there is clearly only one person.
The sound of shattering glass broke the silence of the room.
Then came the sound of Su Lin collapsing to the ground.
The wardrobe door was slowly pushed open, and a terrified man walked out, staring blankly at Su Lin, who was lying on the ground convulsing.
He couldn't understand how Su Lin had discovered him when he was hiding so well. Why did this woman...
He covered his mouth with his hand to keep from making a sound.
Why is this woman's neck slashed open by glass, with blood gushing onto the floor?
Good heavens, I just wanted to steal something, but if someone died... how could this happen?!
Su Lin glanced at him with her eyes, which were gradually losing their luster, and then looked at the mirror.
He followed Su Lin's gaze.
A dark shadow crouched beside Su Lin in the mirror, holding a shard of glass in its hand.
He seems to be smiling.
"Ahhhhhhh!!!!" The man ran towards the bedroom door in terror. "There's a ghost—!"
His cries for help lasted only a moment before his throat became like a broken megaphone.
