Ksitigarbha Legend - Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Old Bai seemed to understand what Mao Mao said, and the little girl, who looked like a doll, squatted down curiously to the side.

The vengeful ghost supported Liu Wei and ruthlessly gripped Xiao Hei's neck. Xiao Hei's body was suspended in mid-air. A wild cat pounced to save it, but Liu Wei threw it hard to the ground.

"You're too green to mess with me!" the evil Liu Wei said viciously.

The kitten's tail has emerged, but Old White can't muster any strength.

Mirror said, "Mao Mao, move aside! Cats shouldn't be seen giving birth! That's what they say online!"

"Oh, oh!" Mao Mao quickly got up.

Old Bai struggled to climb into the wardrobe.

"A little cat demon? No! Not even a cat demon, just a spirit cat. How dare you fight me?" The evil spirit Liu Wei sneered.

Xiao Hei felt increasingly difficult to breathe. He turned his head and glanced at Mao Mao's balcony out of the corner of his eye.

Old Bai whimpered softly, straining as he prepared to give birth to what was about to be no ordinary kitten.

Push harder!

Push harder!

come on!

come on!

Cats have nine lives, Little Black started counting.

He risked his life to save his mother from his first evil master.

He used his second life to save his second owner's baby from the vengeful ghost.

He used his third and fourth lives to seal off the vengeful spirit of the doll in the community.

He used his fifth life to win Walter White's love.

To quell the resentment of the 50,000 dogs brutally murdered in Yunnan, he used his sixth, seventh, and eighth lives.

My last life, for him... it was worth it.

Xiao Hei closed his eyes happily, while the laughter of the vengeful ghost Liu Wei echoed in the air above the neighborhood.

The little one was born silently, and Old Bai used his last bit of strength to break the amniotic sac for it.

"Ugly thing!" Old Bai smiled kindly and closed his eyes.

forever.

The souls of Old White and Little Black lay side by side beside the kitten.

Old Bai said, "In this life, we saved Di Ting, the divine beast of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. In the next life, can we be reborn as humans?"

Xiao Hei asked, "What would I do if I turned into a human?"

Old Bai said, "I will become a woman, and you will become a man, and we will love each other for a lifetime."

Little Black laughed: "What's so great about being human? I don't like the smell of humans! Let's be cats. But I want to be a female cat."

Old Bai asked, "Why?"

Xiao Hei glanced at Lao Bai and said, "It's too hard for a female cat to give birth to kittens, so I'll take on this difficult task."

The kitten is now half a month old and its size is almost the same as Old White's.

Its entire body is covered in dark gray fur, except for its four paws, which are glossy black.

It looked like there was a big bump on his forehead, with a tuft of pure white hair on it, forming a capital letter "M".

Its eyes were a deep, sapphire blue, a deep, clear blue. If you looked into them for too long, you would feel an urge to fall into them.

Mao Mao gave the kitten a descriptive name: "Big M".

Mao Mao specially bought a lot of kitten food and milk powder for Da M, but Da M refused to eat anything except drink water. As it grew bigger and bigger, it also became thinner and thinner.

Could it be that it has some kind of worms in its stomach?

That morning, Mao Mao decided to take Da M to see a vet. The vet was located at the northernmost part of the neighborhood.

This was the first time Mao Mao had taken Da M out, and the first time Da M had seriously looked at the world. All living beings in the six realms were real and vivid, and Da M couldn't help but look around curiously.

Last night, rain and snow made the roads muddy. The owl's feathers lost their luster, and it huddled in the half-withered locust leaves, shivering with cold. When it saw Big M, it shivered even more.

On the lawn of the community, several children were playing football. The ball rolled in the muddy wet ground. The children were probably only seven or eight years old. Among them was a boy who was over ten years old. He was tall and strong. He kicked the ball, but it went wide and hit a boy in a gray tracksuit right on the bridge of his nose. The boy burst into tears.

Seeing the boy in the gray tracksuit cry, the older child, fearing a scolding from the adults, became agitated. He ran up, grabbed the boy's gray collar, and shouted, "Cry! What are you crying for!"

Seeing this, the child cried even harder. The older child, thinking he was going to get scolded anyway, decided to punch the child in the head, yelling, "I'll teach you to cry! I'll teach you to cry! I'll beat you until you laugh!"

Seeing this, the other children remained silent at first, then surrounded them and shouted, "Big bullies little ones, they'll get bitten by ghosts!"

"The strong bully the weak, and they'll get bitten by a ghost!"

"The strong bully the weak, and they'll get bitten by a ghost!"

"The strong bully the weak, and they'll get bitten by a ghost!"

The children formed a circle, repeating the phrase. The older child spat out a "Pah!" and, seeing an adult approaching from afar, said somewhat guiltily, "Take a bite! I'm not afraid!"

After saying that, he ran off in a flash.

At the southernmost end of the residential area is the property management building, with a faint green haze around its rooftop. Big M felt something pressing down on his heart, but he really couldn't remember what it was. It was like something he was supposed to do but hadn't, or something he was supposed to take but hadn't. He frowned, unable to recall what it was.

"Good boy, M~" Mao Mao stroked his forehead. "We'll be at the hospital soon. The doctors and nurses there are very nice, and they know your mom!"

Big M didn't really listen to Mao Mao's words; he just followed Mao Mao to the hospital. The man swinging from the tree, his neck hanging from it, suddenly stammered, his tongue lolling out, "I...I...I helped your old man~"

Big M didn't understand what the man was saying, but she inexplicably burst into tears.

Who cares! Big M's little head wasn't going to think about too much. It just felt that this was a really colorful world. Big M let out a contented "woo-woo".

A notice with black and white lettering was posted at the entrance of the pet hospital, advising residents not to take their pets out for the next month. If they must go out, they should make sure their pets wear muzzles and prevent them from eating food other than what is available at home.

After the stray cat incident, the property management of the residential community placed a large number of poisoned buns in the community to poison the stray cats that had committed the offense.

There was only one doctor and three nurses in the hospital. Mao Mao was very familiar with the doctor, a young man with long, slender fingers named Wang Zihan, but everyone called him Wang Zi.

The prince gave Big M a thorough check-up and found nothing wrong.

“Strange, is this kitten really only half a month old?” the prince asked.

"yes!"

"Its size is already almost that of an adult cat!" the prince frowned.

"Oh, I find that strange too. Maybe Old Bai's husband is a giant cat!" That's what Mao Mao always thought.

"How is Lao Bai? You can take some nourishing food back with you later!" Prince was always good at business.

“Well… Old Bai died when he gave birth to Big M…” Mao Mao said sadly.

"Oh, sorry... By the way, did Old White only have this one kitten?" Prince asked. "Do all the other kittens grow to be this big like Big M?"

"Old Bai only had one kitten..." Mao Mao said, "Maybe the other kittens didn't even have a chance to be born before..."

“Oh…” the prince frowned, “I see…”

The prince was a Buddhist, and on the south wall of the hospital hung a portrait of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, with incense burning on the altar year-round.

Big M looked up at the Buddha statue, felt a pang of sadness, and felt both afraid and irresistibly drawn to it.

"If you don't mind, let's keep Big M here for a few days of observation!" the prince said. "If he doesn't eat, he might die if we can't find the cause!"

"This..." Mao Mao hesitated, feeling a little reluctant.

“I’ll have Huihui take good care of it!” the prince said, while a girl in a pink and green nurse’s uniform smiled sweetly beside him.

“Okay, I’ll come see it every day!” said Momo.

On a cold, damp morning after rain or snow in winter, the air is crisp and damp.

As Mao Mao left the pet hospital, she felt a chill seep into her heart through her nostrils, circling around inside. Suddenly, she felt empty inside and let out a long sigh. A few green leaves had fallen from the old locust tree; they probably hadn't even had time to turn yellow yet. Winter had arrived so early.

According to the elderly residents in the community, this old locust tree is almost a hundred years old. When the community was being built, the investors routinely invited a feng shui master. The feng shui master didn't say anything, but just pointed to this old locust tree and said, "This tree must not be moved."

Looking at the old locust tree, Mao Mao suddenly had a strange feeling. The man in the tree had his tongue sticking out in a very long way, and his saliva dripped down, landing on the leaves on the ground and turning into dew.

Not knowing what the mirror wanted for breakfast, Mao Mao sighed again and took out his phone to call the mirror.

The ringtone on the mirror is the theme music from "A Chinese Odyssey Part Two: Cinderella"—"Eternal Love, Eternal Love Twice, Nobody Answers."

"How can one find a way to have it all, to be true to both Buddha and love?" The ringtone reminded Mao Mao of the two lines of poetry Tang Sanzang wrote on the ground in the movie, and she felt inexplicably agitated, so she quickened her pace to go home.

At the elevator entrance, two adults and two children are facing off.

The older children said, "I didn't slap Xiaohui, I just gently patted his head!"

The child in the gray clothes, named Xiaohui, said, "You hit me! You hit me!"

Xiaohui's mother looked fierce: "Not only did you kick the ball in the child's face and not apologize, but you also hit him! Is this reasonable?! Is this reasonable?!"

The older child remained silent, tears welling in his eyes: "I didn't slap him!"

"Ah Ming!" the older child's father said angrily, "Quickly apologize to Xiao Hui and Auntie!"

"I only apologized for accidentally kicking the ball at him and for hitting him on the head. I didn't slap him!" A-Ming said stubbornly.

"Apologize now! Apologize to all of you!" A-Ming's father commanded sternly.

Ah Ming bit his lip in grievance, then suddenly raised his hand and slapped Xiao Hui across the face, saying, "I'm sorry! I'll apologize for slapping you this time, so I won't feel wronged."

Xiaohui's mother immediately started cursing and kicking and hitting A-Ming, "You really are a motherless bastard, you think you can get away with anything if I don't teach you a lesson?"

Ah Ming covered his head and kept trying to hide. His father tried to pull him away, but couldn't.

Even the most upright official finds it hard to settle family disputes. The elevator arrived, and Mao Mao hurriedly got on. In the instant the elevator doors closed, she saw A Ming's aggrieved, stubborn face, streaked with tears. Her heart clenched painfully, for no apparent reason.

The house was empty when I opened the door. The mirror was gone, and a note was stuck to the refrigerator with a magnet: "How can one have it all, to be true to both Buddha and love?"
