Zhao Qiang said, "Great, I think we should leave. We're not welcome here."
Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun carefully retreated towards the document room. The soldiers guarding them didn't mind them leaving. Professor Martin apologized to Yang Shiyun, saying, "Sarah, I'm sorry, you should leave here quickly. It's not appropriate for you to get involved in the rest."
Yang Shiyun said, "Professor, please take care of yourself."
Martin's face darkened. "This might be the last time we meet. Go home. Don't stay in America. It's too dangerous here."
At that moment, two US soldiers who were climbing the rope suddenly fell from mid-air, screaming in pain. They didn't die because they hadn't climbed very high, but the fall was quite severe, and they couldn't get up for a while. What's worse, the rope hanging from the helicopter broke as they fell. Could it be that the pilot had a sudden malicious intent to ambush them? It's impossible for several helicopter pilots to defect at the same time, and besides, what would be the point of defection? This is a battle between humanity and a virus, not a war between humans.
However, Louis and his team soon found out that it wasn't the helicopter pilot causing the trouble, but rather infected madmen appearing on the roof. They frantically pushed their way down through the open floorboards, and two team members who had fallen in were pinned down by the madmen before they could even get up. The madmen then began to bite them, and even their sturdy bulletproof vests couldn't stop them. Their screams were even more pitiful than when they had just fallen down the building. "Fire!" Louis shouted.
Rat-a-tat-tat, bullets swept wildly across the madmen who jumped down from the floor hole. They were knocked down as soon as they got up, but as long as their heads were not broken or they were not dead, they would crawl towards the humans even if they only had half a body. Once they were grabbed, they would definitely bite them without hesitation.
A sudden, massive tremor shook the floor above them; a section collapsed under the force. It turned out the helicopter, suspended in mid-air, had been pulled down by the madman who had grabbed onto a rope. Louis yelled, "Screw it!"
The number of madmen kept increasing, like rice leaking through a funnel, and they couldn't possibly defeat them all. Louis knew clearly that it was impossible to leave by air anymore. They had come in two helicopters, and judging from the sound of the explosions above, neither helicopter had escaped. These madmen were indeed insane; they had actually gathered on the rooftop waiting to launch their attack. They had been too careless when they came down and underestimated their power.
"Go, go!" Louis kicked the broken document room door open and ran out first, followed closely by the others. Although the building was on fire, it did not affect the overall structural integrity. The fire had not yet spread out of control. Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun were the last two to leave the document room. In fact, they had already been surrounded by madmen. Louis's men did not help them resist the madmen at all.
Zhao Qiang pulled out his compression gun. Louis's men had already disappeared, so he wasn't afraid of being discovered. Boom! Meat sauce flew everywhere as the area in front was cleared. Boom! Yang Shiyun also fired. The madmen who had formed a semi-encirclement were quickly wiped out. They needed time to crawl down from the hole in the floor and rebuild their fighting strength. This time was enough for Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun to leave calmly.
Yang Shiyun pointed to the window: "Let's go this way."
Zhao Qiang said, "We should get to the lab first, even if we don't take the treatment drugs, we should at least find out their ingredients."
Yang Shiyun shot out a zipline, pulling herself out of the window. Zhao Qiang followed behind her, and the two landed directly at the entrance of the laboratory building. At this time, Louis and the others had just run out of the office building.
Yang Shiyun still led the way into the experimental building. There were more and more lunatics in the school, which was partly due to the students' tendency to gather in groups. If they could spread out like the residents, the infection rate might be lower. However, with students gathered in the square, an outbreak in one place would immediately spread to the surrounding area. Although there was no one left in the square because of the darkness, the number of infections had already expanded infinitely. As a result, lunatics could be seen everywhere on campus. A few of them would corner a group of students, suppress them until they had nowhere to go, and then slowly devour them. The scene was incredibly bloody, like hell on earth.
Boom, boom, Zhao Qiang followed behind Yang Shiyun, firing. He used a compression gun in one hand and an electromagnetic gun in the other. When he encountered groups of madmen, he would use the compression gun to take them out with one shot, turning them into nothingness. If they were scattered madmen, he would use the electromagnetic gun to deal with them. It was very convenient. He cleared out the madmen as he entered the laboratory. By the time he reached the entrance of the second basement level laboratory, he had already killed more than a hundred madmen.

Volume 2 [685] Laboratory
[685] Laboratory
This is an electronic gate, and judging by its thickness, it is probably the most solid building on the entire university campus. Moreover, it is surrounded by reinforced concrete, which shows that Professor Martin's research is very dangerous. It is estimated that Xiao Wei chose Yang Shiyun as the modification subject because Yang Shiyun had such convenient research conditions. After modifying the doctors in the hospital, she may have come here to make corresponding modifications to Yang Shiyun's body. However, Zhao Qiang does not know this information for the time being.
“Let me drive,” Yang Shiyun said.
Zhao Qiang naturally had no objections. Although he could open even the thickest door, who knew what the situation inside might be like? It was safest to open it the normal way. However, Yang Shiyun's confidence didn't seem to last long, because after she entered the password, the electronic door displayed an error warning, and she only had two more attempts left.
Zhao Qiang said, "No way, Professor Martin changed the password."
Yang Shiyun said, "Professor Martin doesn't have many students, and even fewer can enter the lab. He must be worried about the virus leaking from the lab, so he changed the password. What do we do now? Do we have to force our way in?"
Zhao Qiang said, "No, there is another way."
Yang Shiyun asked, "What should we do?"
"Wait." As soon as Zhao Qiang finished speaking, hurried footsteps sounded outside. Yang Shiyun immediately understood that Martin and Louis had arrived. Although they had taken a detour, the madmen on the way here had been eliminated by Zhao Qiang, so they were able to speed up.
"You... how did you get here?" Louis was surprised to see Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun. He hadn't met them when he left. In their view, in this life-or-death situation, they only needed to complete their own mission. They could only apologize to the 'foreign friends'. But how could they have imagined that Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun would get there before them?
Zhao Qiang said, "We jumped down from the building. Since we knew you were coming here, we had no choice but to wait for you here. You know there are a lot of crazy people outside. If we didn't follow you, how could we escape from the campus?"
Louis didn't quite believe Zhao Qiang's words, and he had seen many madmen killed along the way, but he didn't have time to ask these questions. He had the soldiers push Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun aside to make way for Professor Martin.
Professor Martin stepped forward to enter the password. Although Zhao Qiang was blocked, it wouldn't be difficult for him to see Professor Martin's password. With a whoosh, powered by the backup power, the door parted to reveal a pristine white corridor. Thankfully, no infected individuals in white coats were seen, indicating that the source of the infection hadn't leaked from the lab.
Professor Martin was breathing heavily, and it was unclear whether this was a sign of an impending viral attack. Zhao Qiang wanted to follow, but two soldiers blocked the door from the left and right, leaving Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun outside. However, Zhao Qiang could see into the laboratory, so he did not resist. But to Zhao Qiang's surprise, there were multiple walls behind the door. His X-ray vision was limited, and he lost sight of Professor Martin and Louis after they had walked more than fifty meters.
Annoyed, Yang Shiyun took off her glasses. Her glasses didn't even have the same X-ray vision as Zhao Qiang's. They exchanged a glance; it seemed they had to go inside to get the most detailed intelligence. Zhao Qiang winked, and the two secretly communicated. Then they attacked simultaneously. Although the two soldiers had guns ready to fire, Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun were too fast for them to react to, and both were knocked to the ground. Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun dragged the two unconscious soldiers aside and entered the laboratory.
Yang Shiyun used to frequent this place, so she was familiar with the layout. Zhao Qiang looked around and found that the laboratory was completely empty. Logically, this shouldn't be the case. Did the people inside know about the crisis outside and they all escape? Or was the laboratory simply not open for business today?
Professor Martin opened the last door, which led to a storage room. Inside a vacuum-sealed instrument case were two rows of test tubes. The first row was black, and the second row was blue. Louis asked curiously, "Professor, what are these?"
Martin said, "The blue one is a synthetic drug we found, but its treatment effect is only so-so. It can only kill about 20% of the virus, but it's better than having no effect at all, right, Captain Louis?" As he spoke, Professor Martin put on the control robotic arm outside the box. He took out a blue test tube, installed it directly on a sterilized injection gun in a vacuum state, and then put it into the isolation chamber. After the isolation chamber separated from the space where the test tube was located, he took it out of the isolation chamber.
Louis was somewhat surprised: "Professor, are you planning to inject yourself?"
Martin said, "Yes, you know I was injured by a madman and could become infected in the next minute, so I have to find a way to save myself."
Louis said, "But you said there's only a 20% chance of a cure."
Martin said, "Would you rather watch me die? Would you choose twenty percent or zero percent?"
Louis opened his mouth but didn't say anything. If it were him, he would definitely try to save himself. Who wants to die?
With a soft "plop," Martin plunged the needle into his arm and pulled the trigger of the syringe, injecting a whole vial of blue liquid into his body. Martin's facial muscles twitched slightly, whether from the reaction of the medicine to his body or from the pain of the injection, it was unclear. Louis watched with a tremor of fear and waved his hand: "Bring the transport boxes and take them all away."
Soldiers took the laboratory's own temperature-controlled transport box from the shelf and placed it in the isolation chamber for disinfection. Then, they put on a robotic arm and inserted all the test tubes inside into the injection gun, placed them in the temperature-controlled transport box in the isolation chamber, closed the lid, and opened the isolation chamber. The virus samples and treatment drugs were all successfully transferred.
One soldier chained the box to his arm, with two soldiers protecting him from behind. Louis helped Martin up; he was still panting, but his face wasn't as red anymore, perhaps because the medication had taken effect.
"Let's go." Louis waved his hand, and the soldiers retreated out of the laboratory. The entry went smoothly, and everyone was happy, their steps particularly light. Although the helicopter had crashed, the situation had been reported to headquarters before they went down into the laboratory, and another helicopter squadron would come to pick them up. All they needed to do was find an open area to place the signaling signal.
A flurry of footsteps echoed outside the storage room. Louis's expression changed, and he immediately quickened his pace: "Hurry!"
Martin said, "Don't worry, the lab is closed today, so there shouldn't be any infected people here."
The soldiers, whose faces had turned extremely grim, relaxed slightly, but the clear sound of footsteps hitting the ground made them uneasy again. If there was no one in the laboratory, then what was the sound of footsteps?
Thump, thump. At the end of the corridor outside the storage room, a steel door was being slammed shut with a deafening roar. The loud footsteps from before came from behind the door. Louis didn't have time to think. Pushing the still-standing soldiers aside, he shouted, "Get back to the ground first!"
Boom! The steel door, after all, wasn't indestructible. After several impacts, it finally shattered, and a tall, dark body burst out from behind it. With ample lighting in the laboratory, everyone immediately recognized it as a "chimpanzee" once it fully emerged from the broken door.
Martin slapped his forehead: "It's a gorilla used for research in the lab. My God, how did it become like this? It's so strong that it smashed the door."
Louis broke out in a cold sweat: "Professor, has it been infected too?"
Behind the chimpanzee, something else followed and crawled through the broken steel door. It was a giant creature with four hooves on the ground, about the size of a calf, but much thicker and stronger, with a long snout and a body covered in sharp, stiff hairs.
“It’s a wild boar,” Professor Martin said calmly. This was his laboratory, and he knew best what kind of creatures were inside.
Louis raised his gun: "Shoot! I've never seen such a big wild boar!"
Rat-a-tat-tat, Louis fired his gun. The chimpanzee was running very fast and was almost at the door of the storage room. Although it was unknown whether it was infected, shooting a chimpanzee when friend or foe was unknown was nothing. Even the wild boar behind it was fiercely attacked by the soldiers who followed.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bullets struck the chimpanzee, creating small wounds from which black blood oozed. The chimpanzee, enraged by the blows, roared and swung its arms. At that moment, its body seemed to inflate, becoming much larger than before. Bullets could no longer wound it, and even the newly formed wounds stopped bleeding, showing signs of healing. What kind of monster was this? Louis and the others retreated hastily, firing as they went.
The wild boar, which had been following the chimpanzee, was hit by bullets but didn't suffer any obvious wounds. However, its wildness was completely unleashed. It pawed the ground with its hooves and charged towards Louis and the others. Countless bullets hit its head along the way, but they couldn't penetrate it at all, as if it were wearing a layer of armor. Louis and the others were so frightened that they gave up resisting and rushed through the next door. Martin slammed the door shut, and then the wild boar charged in. Everyone heard a loud bang, and the heavy protective door was smashed open, leaving a large bulge. It was possible that the wild boar had also smashed open the previous door, but the chimpanzee had gotten there first.
Boom! Another impact. Louis and the others were so frightened that they dared not stay any longer. They retreated while holding their guns on guard, but unexpectedly bumped into the people behind them. They screamed in fright and saw that it was Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun.
Seeing the boxes on the arms of Louis's men, Zhao Qiang knew he was too late. It seemed he would have to get the boxes, but there were too many of them. If he tried to take the boxes, he would definitely hurt the soldiers. Zhao Qiang hesitated for a moment. Actually, he didn't need the medical drugs. He only needed to get some samples to analyze.
Fearing that Zhao Qiang might make a move at this moment, Yang Shiyun shook her head at him, signaling him not to be reckless. In this time of crisis, who knows how the Americans would retaliate against the Chinese if they angered them.
Louis wanted to curse Zhao Qiang, but he also wanted to know how the two soldiers guarding Zhao Qiang were doing. However, he didn't have time for that. The wild boar smashed the door open with a loud bang, and the chimpanzee rushed out again. This time, it didn't hesitate and charged over nimbly, opening its mouth wide and attacking everyone with its arms and legs.
Volume 2 [686] The Mad Beast
【686】Beast
Louis only brought rifles, and they knew that rifle bullets were ineffective against chimpanzees and wild boars. When the chimpanzees launched their attack, there was no reason for humans not to retreat. So even though Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun had killed the two guards, they didn't have time to pay attention to them. Louis grabbed Martin, and the others covered the rear, running away as fast as they could.
Yang Shiyun took the lead and followed, followed by Zhao Qiang. His eyes followed the soldier carrying the box, which indeed contained two liquids, blue and black. The black liquid was probably the virus sample, which was not very useful because there were virus samples everywhere. The blue liquid was probably the medicine that could treat the black virus, but of course, the effect was only 20%.
The chimpanzee was incredibly fast. Although Louis's squad reacted and ran quickly, they were still a step slower than the chimpanzee. The chimpanzee caught up with the last soldier and slapped him. The soldier gripped the trigger tightly, firing all the bullets into the chimpanzee, but this did no harm at all. The chimpanzee's slap sent the soldier flying. The soldier was quite skilled; even while airborne, he knew to throw a grenade. However, the chimpanzee wasn't fooled. Instead of grabbing it and eating it, it slapped him again, sending the grenade flying over the running crowd and landing on the ground, clattering and smoking.
The chimpanzee stopped its pursuit and focused on the soldier who had thrown the grenade. The soldier had already fallen to the ground, the concrete making him dizzy and unable to get up for a moment. The chimpanzee stepped forward and stomped on his stomach. *Thud*, the chimpanzee's strength was immense; it stomped so hard that it burst the soldier's stomach, spilling his intestines all over the ground.
The chimpanzee wasn't afraid of blood at all; instead, it excitedly grabbed a piece of intestine, yelling as it stuffed it into its mouth and began chewing. Meanwhile, the soldier, still alive, watched helplessly as the chimpanzee devoured his intestines. The wild boar arrived, and seeing the food on the ground, it also abandoned its pursuit. It opened its massive jaws, bit into the soldier's head where the intestines were exposed, and with a forceful slam, bit off the soldier's head. This time, he was truly dead.
No one cared about the soldier's death. The grenade rolled and smoked at their feet. Louis was terrified and shoved Professor Martin to the ground, pinning him down. The other soldiers scattered to the left and right, trying to avoid the threat of the exploding grenade. Just then, Yang Shiyun lashed her whip at the rolling grenade, sending it flying backward. The chimpanzee and wild boar were happily eating when the grenade came hurtling towards them. However, there wasn't enough time for it to reach them; it exploded in mid-air with a deafening roar, scattering fragments everywhere.
"Awooo..." The roar was deafening. The bullets couldn't harm the chimpanzees and wild boars, but the grenade was much more powerful. A large number of fragments were embedded in their bodies, making them look battered and bruised. After being hit by this, the two monsters no longer cared about eating. They turned around and attacked Louis and the others, roaring and shaking their bodies. The fragments embedded in their bodies were forced out, and their bodies seemed to be reinforced once again. Was this a case of becoming stronger when faced with something tough? Wouldn't that make them even more difficult to deal with the more they fought?
Yang Shiyun threw the grenade skillfully; the shrapnel barely harmed the humans. Louis and Martin narrowly escaped, but the two monsters that followed left them helpless. They had barely gotten up and taken three steps when the monsters caught up, slapping another lagging soldier away. Before the soldier even landed, the boar snapped its head and bit him, a crisp cracking sound indicating the soldier's spine had broken. Then, with another crack, the chimpanzee and the boar each devoured half of the food, their cooperation seamless, like old friends.
"Captain, run!" Two soldiers shouted into the gate. They were the two who had been knocked unconscious by Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun. They had woken up and happened to see the captain and the others being attacked. So they shouted into the gate while closing it, hoping that the people could escape before it closed and then use the heavy outer gate to trap the two wild beasts.
Louis was slightly relieved to see that they were the two guards protecting Zhao Qiang; it turned out Zhao Qiang hadn't killed them. He grabbed Professor Martin and ran for his life. The other guards, knowing to protect these two important figures, fired back as they moved. Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun, however, weren't in a hurry. They observed that the two wild beasts were extremely ferocious, and the chances of these people escaping were slim. They decided to help them when necessary.
As expected, the two wild beasts dropped their food and chased after the fleeing group. They were naturally much faster than humans. Just as Louis was protecting Martin as they reached the gate, the two beasts stopped several soldiers, including the one carrying the box. These soldiers were panicked, but they were well-trained and continued to fire at the two beasts. However, the bullets were too weak against them. The two beasts swatted at the bullets, and one soldier was thrown against the wall and fell to the ground without a sound. Another soldier was trampled to the ground by the wild boar, his chest ruptured, and he died on the spot.
The gate was closed only a crack. Louis shoved the rifle he was holding through it. Click! The gate's motor roared, and the rifle rattled as it was squeezed through. Louis said to the soldier carrying the crate, "Get out here!"
The soldier carrying the box ran out in a few strides, but the wild boar caught up with him. The thud of its footsteps made the soldier lose his balance, and the boar's hissing was right behind him. Knowing he couldn't escape, the soldier threw the box away, but he forgot that the box was still strapped to his arm. The throw not only failed to get the box away, but also made him stumble. Then the wild boar butted into his back, and the gate slammed shut with a bang, snapping the rifle stuck in the middle.
Yang Shiyun confronted the chimpanzee, using a compression gun. Whoosh, a burst of compressed gas shot out, hitting the chimpanzee. The impact sent the chimpanzee flying back against the wall, crashing it down with a loud bang. The compressed gas exploded, billowing smoke and dust. It was unclear whether the chimpanzee was killed or not.
Zhao Qiang confronted the wild boar. Seeing that it was about to gore the soldier carrying the box to death, Zhao Qiang swiftly drew his long knife and slashed at the boar's head. With a dull thud, Zhao Qiang's blow felt like striking rotten leather. He had used considerable force, but upon closer inspection of the boar, he found that he had only managed to cut a deep wound, not kill it. This showed just how thick the boar's hide was. However, the boar, having suffered this blow, could no longer pursue the American soldier.
At this moment, the chimpanzee that had been shot by Yang Shiyun emerged from the dust and smoke. Its chest was torn and bloody, but its movement was not greatly affected. Yang Shiyun was shocked: "It is so tough?" You have to know how powerful the compression gun is. Even steel plates would probably be shattered, but its flesh and blood body actually blocked the heavy blow of the compression gun. No wonder Yang Shiyun was surprised.
Zhao Qiang fired a shot to finish off the chimpanzee, who had just gotten up but was shot back down. The wall was damaged even more, with a large section collapsing inward. At this moment, the wild boar turned and charged at Zhao Qiang. Zhao Qiang didn't even need to activate the anti-gravity device; he pushed off the ground and leaped high into the air. The wild boar missed its target and crashed into the wall again with a loud bang. These walls were probably serving as supports, and the successive collapses affected the structure of the entire building. Boom! An even more serious collapse occurred.
Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun were fine; they both dodged in time. However, the American soldiers trapped inside the door were unlucky. Two of them immediately dodged when they saw the situation was bad, but the rest were all crushed inside, including the team member who was carrying the box. As for the chimpanzee and wild boar, they were not afraid of being crushed at all; their thick skin and flesh were beyond the ability of ordinary injuries to subdue them.
Zhao Qiang used an electromagnetic gun and fired a shot at the pig's head. The wild boar had been full of contempt for Zhao Qiang, but this shot showed it what power was. The bullet went from the pig's head to its tail, and then disappeared into the cement.
Under electromagnetic acceleration, even wild boars with skin of copper and bones of iron could not withstand it. Seeing this, Yang Shiyun also used an electromagnetic gun to attack the chimpanzees. In fact, one or two bullets hitting their heads would not be fatal because they were too powerful. However, Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun had no shortage of bullets and kept firing until all the ammunition in the gun was gone. The brains of the two mutated monsters were all scrambled. At this point, they were no longer able to harm humans and were dead without even breathing. The compression gun was a large-area kill and was useless against these two beasts with thick skin and flesh. The electromagnetic gun, on the other hand, was a single-point attack and it worked. This is like punching a balloon hard and the balloon is fine, but if you prick it lightly with a needle, the balloon will burst. The principle is the same.
With a loud crash, another collapse occurred, and a large section of the floor fell, separating Zhao Qiang, Yang Shiyun, and two other soldiers. Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun were on the inside, their path blocked by the fallen floor, while the two soldiers managed to squeeze through the crack in the wall and out of the door. However, the box their companion was carrying was trapped inside. Louis and Martin, who had already escaped danger, were very anxious upon discovering that the box was missing and immediately telegraphed headquarters to request reinforcements.
Zhao Qiang and Yang Shiyun fanned the dust in front of them and immediately saw the box on the ground. Half of it had been crushed by the collapsed concrete slab. Yang Shiyun went forward and dragged the box out. There was a severed hand on it.
Zhao Qiang said, "Many people have died because of this, I hope it will be useful."
Yang Shiyun said, "The incubator is damaged. We need to find a replacement, otherwise the samples will die."
Zhao Qiang said, "We only need to know its ingredients; we don't need to take it with us."
Yang Shiyun said, "But how can we analyze its components? I don't know if the instruments in the laboratory are still usable, and even if they are, it will take a while to analyze them all."
Zhao Qiang said, "It's not as complicated as you think." As he spoke, Zhao Qiang squatted down and smashed the broken incubator. The black virus sample was mostly broken, but there were still two intact blue treatment samples. Zhao Qiang didn't touch them, but just put a small drop of the broken blue liquid in his palm.
Yang Shiyun reminded Zhao Qiang: "Don't touch them, be careful not to get infected." Although the blue ones are treatment drugs, it is still unknown whether they are suitable for people who are not infected.
