Chapter 54

"If you wish to listen, I am always ready. However, it is getting late, so please go back and rest early."

Seeing that Mu Fengting was so easy to talk to, Mo Xi smiled and nodded her thanks. With a leap, she went straight to her bedroom window, leaned out, and disappeared in an instant. Mu Fengting knew that she was impatient with the hundred steps of Chongyao Terrace, smiled slightly, and also used his lightness skill to head towards Yunxia Terrace.

Mo Xi sensed someone inside the room early in the morning; it was Lü Yun.

Green Cloud was pacing back and forth in the room, twirling her sash with her index finger, unaware that Mo Xi was standing behind her.

Mo Xi asked, "What happened?"

Upon seeing Mo Xi, Lü Yun was overjoyed, saying, "Miss, please go see Fourth Young Master. Since returning to Qinghui Pavilion, he has instructed everyone not to disturb him, and he even sent me out. I wonder if he has any medicine on hand. He has never done this before." As she spoke, she gently shook Mo Xi's arm, afraid that she would refuse.

Mo Xi sighed inwardly and finally followed Lü Yun.

Green Cloud knocked on the door, but dared not enter herself, only pleading with Mo Xi with her eyes.

The door wasn't locked. Mo Xi gently pushed it open but didn't go in. Only a few candles were lit inside. In the dim candlelight, Tang Huan stood with her back to the door, gazing out the dark window, lost in thought.

Tang Huan muttered, "Didn't I say no one was allowed in?"

Mo Xi said softly, "Then I'm leaving."

Tang Huan turned around hastily and saw Mo Xi standing in the pale silver moonlight, looking at him with a half-smile. A flood of emotions welled up inside him, like a mixture of sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy flavors, impossible to distinguish, and he only felt his heart pounding wildly.

He stared at her blankly, as if in a daze, and after a long while, he whispered, "Don't go."

Mo Xi noticed a few drops of blood on his robe and gently scolded him, "You are my doctor. You've injured your own hand. How can you treat me?"

Tang Huan said softly, "I'll bring some medicine later, it'll be fine." After a pause, he added, "Would you like to come in?"

As soon as Mo Xi stepped across the threshold, Green Cloud behind her closed the door for them.

Mo Xi said helplessly, "Apply the medicine now."

Tang Huan gave a soft "oh," took out a small, transparent crystal bottle from her bosom, handed it to Mo Xi, and gently turned her head away, refusing to look at her.

Mo Xi took the bottle with her left hand, grasped his palm, and looked at his palm. The bleeding had stopped, but the wound had clearly not been cleaned and had clotted naturally. So she opened the bottle cap and gently applied the medicine to the wound.

Tang Huan gazed at her focused eyes in the candlelight and suddenly said softly, "You injured your right hand, and I injured my left hand. That's perfect."

Mo Xi sighed inwardly: How desperate must this child be to think this is just right... but her movements became even gentler.

The two were very close, and Mo Xi suddenly whispered to him with a grin, "Your love interest has arrived."

Tang Huan immediately raised his right hand, and in an instant, all the candles in the room were extinguished by his palm strike.

In the darkness, his right hand gently slid into Mo Xi's left palm, pulling her closer and squeezing it lightly to signal her to be quiet. They were now so close they could hear each other's breath. Mo Xi didn't have the usual fragrance of a girl, yet Tang Huan had the illusion of holding a warm, soft body in his arms. He wished the person outside would leave quickly, yet also wished that person would never leave.

Sure enough, a moment later Ouyang Jin's voice came from outside the door: "Brother Tang's hand is alright, I'll go check on him." As she spoke, she was about to push the door open.

Green Cloud said, "Fourth Young Master has already rested. Miss Ouyang, please return."

Ouyang Jin glanced around several times, and seeing that there was no light coming out of the room, she had no choice but to leave hesitantly.

As Tang Huan heard her footsteps fading into the distance, she suddenly whispered in Mo Xi's ear, "Don't worry, I'll definitely find a way to send her back."

Mo Xi said softly, "What do I have to worry about?"

Tang Huan said in a muffled voice, "Yes, I'm the one who's worried. I'm afraid you'll be unhappy." After a pause, he added softly, "No one has ever made me so happy one moment and so miserable the next."

After a moment of silence, in the darkness, Mo Xi heard Tang Huan say again, "Sometimes I really don't know how to treat you."

Mo Xi thought to himself: Aren't I the same?

After a moment, Tang Huan solemnly asked again, "Could you grant me a request?"

"you."

"Don't call me Headmaster Tang anymore." He paused, then added, "I've been upset about this all afternoon."

Mo Xi heard the hint of grievance in his voice and finally gave a soft "Mmm".

It was just a syllable, but Tang Huan immediately became happy and said, "You promised me something, so I should promise you something in return. The Langya Staff we talked about last time doesn't count."

Mo Xi thought to himself: How come he hasn't forgotten... Not knowing what to ask for, he shamelessly said, "I'll owe you for now. I'll come back for it later."

Tang Huan laughed in the darkness and said, "I was afraid you wouldn't come."

Author's Note: Okay, everyone says Huanhuan has been holding his anger in for two days. This time, the cat is giving him special treatment.

I usually update every other day, but I'll be adding extra updates irregularly this week. Hehe.

( ) After a while, Tang Huan finally said, "It's late, I'll take you home."

The two of them did not light any lamps and walked straight outside.

Seeing them come out one after the other at the door, Lüyun felt relieved and smiled, "So it turns out that you are the real miracle doctor. As soon as you arrive, Fourth Young Master will be cured immediately."

Tang Huan had just said so much to Mo Xi, but it was all because of a moment of passion and because the room was dark. But things are different now. He couldn't stand Lü Yun's teasing, so he said in embarrassment and annoyance, "Miss is going back to bed. Aren't you coming with me?"

Green Cloud stuck out her tongue at Mo Xi and made a funny face. She waited until the two had walked quite a distance before slowly catching up, but always trailed them by about ten steps.

After seeing him to the door, Tang Huan said, "I'm going to 'Broken Scrolls' tomorrow to look up records about the Langya Staff. Miss, come with me."

The phrase "破卷" (pò juǎn) is likely taken from the proverb "读书破万卷" (dú shū pò wàn juǎn), which is why Mo Xi asked, "Is '破卷' the treasure of Tangjiabao?" Seeing Tang Huan nod, she replied, "Okay."

The next day, Mo Xi had just finished breakfast when Tang Huan arrived, carrying a bundle. Unfolding it revealed a cloak-like garment made of emerald feathers and gauze, trimmed with white fox fur around the hood and collar. Only a cluster of double-petaled white peonies with silver thread embroidery adorned the hem; there were no other decorations. The cloak's opulence was subtly concealed within its understated elegance.

Mo Xi noticed he was wearing a dark green crane-feather cloak embroidered with orchids at the hem, and she understood immediately. She thought to herself: So, couple outfits existed in ancient times too.
