Ghost Messenger's Case - The Tale of a Soul Leaving the Body - Chapter 4
"Yes, this man will be with you from tonight until 7 a.m. tomorrow, and he will help you regain your confidence."
The young woman pondered for a moment before slowly saying, "Alright."
"Alright, Miss, I'll treat you to this bowl of wish wontons, in exchange for the diamond ring on your hand."
"What, so expensive?"
"The ring on your hand was given to you by that heartless man, so what is there to be reluctant about?"
The young woman's face contorted in pain, but she finally managed to remove the ring and hand it to one of the two men. Then she began to devour the wish-fulfilling wontons. After finishing, she asked, "Where is that handsome man?"
"Miss, he's waiting for you at the bridgehead, you should go quickly."
The woman turned and left, at which point one of the two men suddenly called out to where I was standing: "Why haven't you shown yourself yet?"
I touched my nose and revealed myself. The two of them were surprised to see me and said at the same time, "So it was you."
I asked with a puzzled smile, "Do you two know me?"
"You've finally arrived! We've been waiting for you for so long."
"Wait for me, why are you waiting for me? I don't think I've ever seen you before."
They looked at each other and said, "Have you forgotten us after being reincarnated?"
Suddenly, the sound of a flute rang out again, and their expressions changed drastically. "He's here too!" they exclaimed.
I exclaimed in surprise, "It's the Flute Messenger! You two know him too!"
They both smiled wryly and said, "Actually, he is you."
"What are you two saying? Why do you both sound the same?"
"He contacted you," they both asked anxiously.
At this moment, the flute-playing messenger dressed in black arrived, looking at us with a sneer and saying, "It's quite lively here."
The two men smiled apologetically and said, "We were unaware of your presence and apologize for not welcoming you properly."
He pointed at me and laughed, "I came to see him, and while I'm at it, I'll also have a bowl of wish-granting wontons to fulfill my wish."
"Are you kidding me? Our wish wontons might fool the living, but they wouldn't even meet your standards, let alone fulfill your wish."
"Is that so?" He sneered, his eyes flashing like lightning as he looked at me. Feeling extremely uncomfortable, I asked, "What exactly do you want by following me all this way?"
"I made myself perfectly clear last night about what I was going to do. Have you forgotten already?"
I sneered, "Please stop dreaming. I have no intention of becoming one with you."
"You have no choice. The person who spoke up to save you last night has been imprisoned in the Dragon Pool of the Demon Realm by me," he said, glancing at the two people at the wonton stall. "You two wouldn't happen to want to go to the Dragon Pool for a bit of fun, would you?"
"No, no... I wouldn't dare." Their voices trembled as if they were extremely frightened.
"Alright, in that case, I hope you won't meddle in other people's business."
"Okay, okay, we dare not interfere, we dare not interfere."
I was so angry that I shouted, "Why are you all so afraid of him? He has committed many evil deeds. We should unite to deal with him!"
The flute player suddenly burst into laughter and said, "You're talking about me, which is the same as talking about yourself. Have you forgotten that I told you I am you?"
Chapter Six: Wish Wonton
I was secretly surprised after hearing this, wondering what the hidden meaning was in his words. I couldn't help but ask, "What do you mean by that? How could I be you?"
The flute-playing messenger sneered for a moment, then said to the two men, "Shouldn't your wish-fulfilling wontons be served now?"
The two men quickly replied, "Yes...yes..."
Soon after, they brought us two steaming bowls of wontons and said, "Please enjoy your meal."
The aroma of the wontons was so enticing that I picked one up and ate it.
The flute-playing messenger shook his head and said, "I didn't expect you to be so naive. Aren't you afraid someone will poison you?"
I said nonchalantly, "I won't eat it now, but you'll force me to eat it later anyway. I can't beat you, so why bother?"
He sneered, "I don't know if you're smart or stupid, but you're right, you're definitely going to eat these wontons."
As we were talking, I had already finished the wontons in my bowl and was about to drink the soup in one gulp when I saw the flute-playing messenger not touching the wontons in front of him. I asked, "Why aren't you eating?"
He just sneered and remained silent. I drank the soup and felt a wave of drowsiness wash over me. I unconsciously slumped onto the table and couldn't help but say, "Strange, I'm so sleepy. Are these wontons meant to put people to sleep?"
The flute-playing messenger said, "In that case, you may take a nap here."
His voice softened, and then a low, gentle flute melody began. My eyelids grew heavier and heavier, and finally my head tilted to the side as I drifted off to sleep.
A violent shaking woke me up, and I realized that I had fallen asleep in the open field. In front of me, a man in black sat cross-legged. He looked exactly like me and was the Flute-Playing Messenger. The one who woke me up was the girl with the same name and appearance as A-Yu that I had seen on the street when I skipped work that day.
I saw her let out a soft cry, and she quickly waved her hand, pointing to her mouth. I nodded in understanding, knowing she didn't want me to speak. She took my hand and quietly turned around, drawing a circle with her hand. Immediately, a green halo formed around us. Then, I felt myself being lifted into the air. My vision went black, but I could hear gusts of wind. After a while, I heard the girl beside me say crisply, "We're here." My feet landed firmly on the ground. I first heard the sound of flowing water, and as my vision gradually cleared, I realized we were near a waterfall. The surrounding area was green with mountains and water, and various wildflowers were blooming. We landed on a large rock. Strangely, it was clearly late at night when I was at the wonton stall, but now it was a bright daytime, and the scenery around me was breathtakingly beautiful, like a painting. Beside me was a stunningly beautiful girl named Ayu, smiling at me. I couldn't help but pinch my thigh, but it didn't hurt at all. Sigh, it was just a dream.
Ayu asked, "What are you doing?"
"I wonder if I'm dreaming."
Ah Yu asked with a smile, "Do you think you're dreaming?"
"I must be dreaming, my legs don't hurt at all."
"Fool, you're fulfilling your own wish."
"My wish? No way, I don't think I have such a wish."
"Sigh, you're impossible to reason with. I'm asking you if you find it strange that Night Demon said you and he are the same person."
"Night Demon, you mean the Piper?"
"No, you are the true Piper, and Night Demon will never become the Piper."
"What do you mean?"
"We've come here to answer the questions in your heart. Do you see that waterfall over there?"
"You saw it, so what are you doing?"
"Once you reach that waterfall, your doubts will be resolved."
I stared at the waterfall; it was wide and the current was rapid. I was a little stunned.
Ayu pushed me and said, "Why aren't you going yet?"
"But?"
"But what?"
"I don't really want to resolve my doubts. Can I not go in?"
She rolled her eyes and said, "Don't waste your time. The Luo brothers won't last long."
"The Luo brothers?"
"It was the owners of the wonton stall. They secretly tampered with your wontons, which is why I was able to rescue you secretly."
"Rescue them."
"Yes, you don't know, after you ate the wontons, your soul unknowingly entered the Night Demon's body and merged with him. It was only thanks to the Luo brothers putting my wish into the wontons that I was able to rescue you halfway."
Although I didn't quite understand what Ayu was saying, I knew she was telling the truth, so I asked helplessly, "Do I really have to go into that waterfall now?"
"Yes, only in this way can you regain your memories of your past life."
I glanced at the massive waterfall ahead and reluctantly started walking. Suddenly, a cold laugh reached my ears, and both A-Yu and I changed color. The Flute-Playing Messenger had appeared before us, looking at us with a cold smile and saying, "Now you have no chance."
A-Yu stepped forward and said coldly, "Night Demon, what are you doing? How are the Luo brothers doing now?"
“You know best what I’m going to do, A-Yu. Those two wonton sellers broke their vow and I’ve imprisoned them in the Demon Realm. It’s just a pity that people in the human world can no longer eat wish wontons on the seventh day of every month.”
“You bastard, how dare you abuse your power!” A-Yu pointed at him, her fingers trembling slightly.
Night Demon smiled and ignored her, only looking at me and saying, "Qu Ming, I think it's time for us to merge into one."
I took a step back, feigning composure, and said, "Don't even think about it."
Ah Yu also said anxiously, "You dare! You and Ah Lang are completely different people now. Don't even think about having his magic power."
Night Demon laughed loudly, "Ayu, you are too naive. But I'm afraid you can't stop me now. You should step aside and wait a moment. You will see the Cheng Lang you have been longing for appear in front of you."
"Don't even think about it!" A-Yu lunged at him, but before she could reach him, she saw his little finger twitch slightly, and A-Yu froze, motionless. I quickly stepped forward to support her and asked angrily, "What did you do to her?"
"I'm just immobilizing her body. You should worry more about yourself. You're so stupid, I don't know if my magic will weaken after we become one."
"You bastard, I will never become one with you."
“It’s not up to you.” After saying that, he started playing the flute. As soon as I heard the flute music, my eyelids started to tingle and I felt sleepy. I angrily said, “You’re trying this trick again. I’m not falling for it.”
I sat cross-legged, secretly channeling my inner energy to resist his flute music. Strangely, my ears seemed to be extremely fond of the flute music; my inner energy couldn't resist it. The sound seemed to pull my thoughts far away, making me feel both familiar and intimate, and also giving me a hazy and confused feeling. Unconsciously, I had given up resisting. The Night Demon's gentle voice rang out: "You are me. You must become one with me. Come... come here to me."
At that moment, I felt that what he said couldn't be more true. I stood up and walked towards him step by step, and saw him smiling at me.
Chapter Seven: Another Person
But as I approached him, I inexplicably turned back and took a few steps, stopping a short distance away. Then, I let out a soft sigh and pointed at A-Yu. She immediately moved, staring at me in astonishment. Actually, I was even more confused than she was, because everything I did was completely unintentional. In other words, it felt as if my body was being controlled by someone else. Another person had used my mouth to utter the sigh and my finger to release A-Yu from the immobilization spell. When that other person pointed at A-Yu, I felt a surge of true energy, but it wasn't my own power. I was utterly bewildered. What was even stranger was that, aside from doing things unintentionally, my body felt neither the heaviness nor the pain of being possessed by a demon, nor was my mind invaded. On the contrary, I had become clear-headed after being confused. I knew exactly who I was and what had happened, which only made me more horrified.
At that moment, I saw that the Night Demon's face was ashen. He looked at me angrily and said, "What are you doing?"
I wanted to answer—I didn't know what I was doing either. But instead, I laughed (not because I wanted to laugh) and said, "What do you think I'm doing?" (That wasn't what I wanted to say either).
The Night Demon glared at me and said, "You couldn't possibly have broken my immobilization spell. Who broke it? Tell me now, who else was with you?"
I wanted to say—I don't know either, but I simply couldn't say it. This feeling was truly bizarre. My mouth had become someone else's mouth. I could only chuckle softly and say, "Night Demon, long time no see. You really don't recognize me?"
The Night Demon exclaimed in surprise, "You... what did you say?"
Then Ayu stepped forward and grabbed my hand, saying, "You...you are Alang."
I said, "Not bad, Ayu, you've grown up so much."
I was terrified. As a ghost messenger, I had been possessed without anyone noticing. It was incredibly embarrassing.
