Academia sobrenatural pervertida - Capítulo 20
"I was just curious!" Shubai looked at Feixiao: "Quickly get the snake away, it's biting me!"
Chen Kai rushed over to check, and sure enough, there was a snake in the box, its mouth wide open, firmly biting Shu Bai's hand, while the mask had vanished.
"Is it really just curiosity?" Fei Xiao looked at Shu Bai's face, her cold gaze seemingly piercing through her. "That safe didn't have any demonic energy at all. This whole thing was done by humans!" She paused and then said, "Shu Bai, Murong Shu Bai, you're the one who wanted the mask, aren't you!"
"Why do you say that?" Shubai's eyes widened, filled with disbelief.
“You were the one who went to Chen Kai, and you were the one who suggested taking the mask out of the safe!” Fei Xiao looked at her and said, “That safe is very sturdy. How could we get it out? The simplest way would be to pretend someone is trying to steal the mask. We just need to find a reason to move it to a safe place, and the opportunity to strike will be there on the way.” Fei Xiao shook her head again as she spoke: “But you encountered a problem. Professor Wang doesn’t believe in ghosts at all. If he really wants to solve this, he can only call the police, but if the police come, everything will be exposed. That’s why you took the initiative and went to find Chen Kai yourself!”
"Is that so?" Chen Kai, listening from the side, felt a chill run down his spine. He realized he had been used once again!
"What evidence do you have to say that?" Shubai's face was ashen, and she looked like she was in a terrible mood.
“My evidence is different from others!” Fei Xiao said with a smile, “It’s the snake biting you. Illusions arise from the mind. If you don’t have the intention of wearing a mask, it won’t turn into a snake!”
"This is just too ridiculous!" she said, shaking her head and forcing a smile.
"Professor! Do you know what this mask is for?" Fei Xiao turned to ask Professor Wang.
"It seems, it seems to be for dancing!" Professor Wang seemed to have suffered a great blow; his prized student had turned into a mask thief in the blink of an eye.
"Do you know whose mask that is?" Feixiao asked again.
"I don't know. Whose mask? It should be whose mask was worn by whoever danced!" Professor Wang was completely confused again.
“Isn’t it Nalan’s mask?” Chen Kai added from the side.
Professor Wang glared at him: "Who told you that? How could there be a mask with Nalan's name on it?"
"Shubai said it!" he said, pointing at Shubai, gradually realizing that he had been fooled more than once in this matter.
"Shubai! How do you know this is Nalan's mask? You've seen it before, so did you come here for this mask?" Feixiao said, her eyes deep, as if her memories had returned to a long time ago: "Nalan, Nalan, the long sword as smooth as water, the ferocious mask, these are all myths of the Xianbei people, a people who later declined and disappeared into history. If I remember correctly, Murong was the royal surname of the Xianbei people!"
"That's right, I lost this game!" Shubai seemed quite approving, nodding with a smile, her expression completely different from before: "Full moon, long sword, Nalan dance!" She paused, then added, "I am the dancer, the dancer of the Nalan dance!"
“Then let’s have a proper talk!” Fei Xiao said, picking up the sandalwood box. As soon as he touched the box, the red, mottled venomous snake inside disappeared. Shu Bai pulled her hand out, and inside was still a hideous mask.
"Alright!" Shu Bai looked at her large hands, which were completely unmarked. It seemed that it really was an illusion. She calmly crossed her arms and sat on the sofa. Her composed face and indifferent tone made her the aloof Murong Shu Bai she used to be.
"If I told you now that there are people in this world who use dancing to exorcise evil spirits, would you believe me?" Shubai asked Feixiao.
“Of course, many ethnic groups are like that!” Professor Wang said from the side.
“This is different. There is a kind of dance that is very dangerous!” Shubai seemed to have mentioned something that caused her great pain: “Those who dance will either die or be injured, but if the ritual is not performed, misfortune will befall everyone!”
"How could there be such a dance?" Feixiao was also very puzzled.
“This is why I took the mask!” Shubai said, reaching out to touch the sandalwood box. The brown box emitted a faint glow. “There are six of these masks in total—three warriors and three ghosts! It’s a dance performed by six people! A dance of death! Yet, a dance that must be performed!” She looked at Professor Wang as she spoke: “A year ago, someone stole this mask from our village, and the dance could no longer be performed. Now it’s right in front of me. Even without opening the safe, I know it’s inside. It’s calling to me. I’m just retrieving what’s mine!”
"If you had explained the situation to me earlier, I would have given you the mask!" Professor Wang looked at his student, his tone filled with unspoken regret.
"It's not too late!" Shubai said, looking at Feixiao with a determined look in her eyes: "Can you do me a favor?"
"Why?" Fei Xiao found it unbelievable. How could this woman be like this? She was the one who tried to steal the mask and got caught, yet she still kindly asked someone else for help.
"Stop that dance, we can't let it continue!" she said, each word distinct and resolute.
"Why should I do this for you?" Fei Xiao scoffed.
"Perhaps, of all the people I've met, you're the only one with this ability!"
"Hehe, that's true, it's just a small matter for me!" Fei Xiao said with a smug smile on her face. Chen Kai's heart sank when he saw her proud expression: This guy, he almost forgot his own name after a few flattering words.
"Professor!" Shubai said to Professor Wang, "I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have stolen this mask, but if I hadn't done it, something terrible would have happened in my hometown!" Her face was full of remorse.
“I don’t blame you. You can take it. I know that some things really can’t be explained by science, especially things that have been passed down through history.”
"Thank you, Professor!" Shubai said gratefully, then turned to Professor Wang and said, "Wouldn't you like to see what that ancient ritual is like? What kind of dance do the dancers playing warriors and the dancers playing ghosts perform?"
Professor Wang stared at the ceiling, lost in thought, imagining that scene: "I long for it, but alas, I cannot go!"
"Who said that? Let's pack up and set off together in the next couple of days!" Shubai said, standing up and grabbing Feixiao's hand again. "Thank you so much. Please go on this trip. No one else can handle such a heavy responsibility!"
Feixiao was flattered to the skies, her face beaming with smiles, and she casually said, "I'll give it a try!" which was her way of agreeing.
Professor Wang, meanwhile, held the brown box, gazing at the mask inside with a look of boundless imagination on his face. The mysterious dance seemed to be vividly present in his mind.
Chen Kai watched as Shu Bai subtly dealt with the two women. He gazed at her face, noting its firmness, beauty, and a hint of intelligence.
Chapter Seven: The Mask (Part Two)
A few days later, the four of them set off together. Shubai's home was in a very remote place, and even by plane, it would take two days to get there.
"Hey? Isn't your friend coming?" Professor Wang asked Chen Kai, who was sitting next to him. The three of them were sitting together.
"You mean Feixiao?" Chen Kai asked him.
"Yeah, it's no use if we go if he doesn't go!" Could it be that he changed his mind before leaving?
"Him? I checked him in as luggage!" Chen Kai said, unable to suppress his laughter. "He doesn't have an ID card, so he can't buy a plane ticket and has to be checked in as luggage!" The arrogant Fei Xiao has finally met her match; he almost laughed himself to death just thinking about it.
"Oh! It's good that he can go!" Shubai seemed relieved after saying that, and then fell silent. Since they set off, she had become increasingly quiet, as if she was shrouded in unease.
Three or four hours later, the plane finally arrived at the airport. As soon as he got off the plane, Chen Kai rushed to the baggage claim area and stood next to the conveyor belt to wait.
Professor Wang and Shubai were both baffled. Could a living person really be transported as cargo?
A bamboo cage slowly approached on the conveyor belt. The gaps were not large, but you could still see a white-furred animal scurrying around inside.
Upon seeing this, Chen Kai quickly grabbed the cage and ran towards the bathroom, saying, "You guys go out and wait for me, we'll be right back!"
"How could this happen? I feel so awful! I should never have come!" Fei Xiao roared as soon as she came out, her voice almost scaring everyone in the hall away.
"Oh dear! It's your own fault for not having an ID card. Professor Wang and Shubai are waiting for us, and we still have to take the train later!" Chen Kai said, folding the cage and putting it in his luggage.
"Why are you still keeping this?" Fei Xiao asked him, pointing at the cage, seemingly afraid to go back inside.
Chen Kai glanced at him: "You're coming back! What else can we do but keep you here?"
"Chen Kai!" Fei Xiao said to him fiercely, "I'll figure out my own way when I come back. I won't be with you guys anymore!" Her handsome face was full of anger; it seemed she was really angry this time.
"Let's go! We'll buy a couple more chickens later, don't be angry!" Chen Kai said, pulling him toward the exit.
Professor Wang and Shubai were waiting for them, and they were very happy to see Feixiao.
"Let's hurry!" Shubai said urgently, "Let's try to catch the afternoon train, otherwise we'll be late!"
"What's too late?" Chen Kai asked him.
“Naturally, it must be the night of the full moon!” Fei Xiao said from the side. “Full moon, long sword, Nalan dance! This dance must be performed under the full moon!”
"Not bad!" Shubai glanced at him, but her eyes were devoid of emotion. "There's still a week until the fifteenth. We still need to rehearse and prepare!"
"Let's go quickly!" Professor Wang said, carrying his luggage and walking at the front.
Once on the train, Feixiao started to get restless again. The surrounding passengers cast curious and envious glances at them, whispering among themselves, and some even secretly took pictures of them.
"Chen Kai, sometimes being too perfect is a mistake, don't you think?" She said, while smoothing her long hair.
"Yeah, yeah! You're really beautiful, it's a pity you're a man, okay!" It seems he's completely forgotten all the resentment he harbored on the plane.
Having grown accustomed to his show-off behavior, Chen Kai had no energy to pay him any attention. Seeing that Professor Wang, who was sitting opposite him, was already dozing off, he couldn't resist either, leaning back in his chair and drifting off to sleep.
He didn't know how long he had slept when someone called his name: "Chen Kai, Chen Kai, wake up!"
He opened his sleepy eyes. The bus had already stopped, and the passengers around him were busy getting off with their luggage.
"Have we arrived?" Chen Kai asked.
"Put on your warm clothes!" Shubai said, already taking a coat out of her bag and putting it on. "It's quite chilly in the mountains, and we still have to take another bus ride!"
"What?" Chen Kai could hardly believe his ears. It was already dark, and it would be the middle of the night by the time they got there.
"Almost there, just hang in there a little longer!" Shubai said, already grabbing her luggage and getting ready to go downstairs.
Chen Kai had no choice but to rummage through the cotton-padded coat he had prepared beforehand. Just as he put it on, he saw Fei Xiao pull out a gorgeous white down jacket from her bag. He finally understood why his backpack was so bulging; Fei Xiao's love of luxury would never change.
The four of them found a taxi at the station.
"Master, to Guiye Village," Shubai said to the driver as she got into the car.
"What? Is it the village behind this mountain?" The driver seemed to disbelieve his ears when he heard the name.
"Yes, that's it! We have an emergency!"
"I'm not going there, you should find another car!" The driver waved his hand, looking terrified.
"Isn't this refusing to take you?" Professor Wang shouted from the back seat.
The driver turned to them and said, "So what if I refuse to take you? That road is notorious for accidents. If I go there so late, wouldn't I be asking for trouble?"
"Let's try asking another car!" Chen Kai said. There was no other way at night; not many people wanted to venture into the ravines at this hour.
"There's no other way!" Shubai had no choice but to get out of the car. "Luckily, there are plenty of taxis at the station!"
“Miss, I advise you not to ask anymore. Nobody wants to go to that place, not even during the day, let alone at night.” After saying that, he started the car and drove away, as if afraid they would come back.
I asked several more drivers, and sure enough, none of them agreed to go to that village. It seems that Shubai's hometown is indeed not a good place.
"I'll give double the fare, is there anyone who can give us a ride?" Fei Xiao suddenly shouted, but her voice was quickly drowned out by the noisy crowd at the station.
"Oh dear! No chance!" Chen Kai looked at the pitch-black night sky: "Should we wait until tomorrow during the day and ask again?"
"No!" Shubai suddenly exclaimed, "Hurry up, we must go back as soon as possible, otherwise more things will happen!" She had completely lost her usual composure.
Chen Kai looked at her and didn't know what to say. He only felt that the mountain wind here was indeed chilling to the bone, blowing incessantly as if it were about to blow away their hopes.
"Where are you going? I can give you a ride, but I'll charge you three times the fare!" A driver with a thick beard appeared beside them at some point.
"You, you're taking advantage of my misfortune!" Chen Kai looked at him; he looked exactly like a robber.
“No problem!” Feixiao said, pointing to Professor Wang, “He’ll give you the money later!”
"Alright!" Professor Wang glanced at the increasingly dark sky, then at Shubai who was on the verge of collapse, and nodded helplessly.
"Come with me!" the man said, leading them to a vehicle that wasn't a taxi.
"What's going on here?" Chen Kai asked, pointing at his car. Could it be one of those unlicensed taxis?
"I'll find some work to do on my own when I'm free. Are you guys coming or not?"
"Let's go! And we need to hurry!" Shubai said, opening the car door and ducking inside.
After driving for a while, the road became narrower and bumpier, clearly indicating that we had left the highway.
The dense trees on the mountain stretched out on both sides of the road, looking like giants at night. Occasionally, when the mountain wind blew, these giants would sway and make strange noises.
"Is this...is this your home?" Chen Kai now understood why those drivers didn't want to come to this godforsaken place.
