Academia sobrenatural pervertida - Capítulo 23
"What?" Shubai's uncle was startled: "You mean this dance is for summoning ghosts, not for exorcising them?"
"That's it, stop drumming now, there's still time. Who knows what will happen if we jump to the seventh lap!"
"But, but!" Shubai's uncle seemed reluctant: "Shubai has always wanted to participate in this ritual, and now that she can finally dance, I can't just stop like this!"
Feixiao was startled by these words and turned to look at Professor Wang behind her. In the dim firelight, Professor Wang's face was also filled with fear.
"So, is this Shubai's first time dancing?" Professor Wang asked, trembling.
“Yes!” Shubai’s uncle nodded. This simple middle-aged man was really heartbroken for his niece: “She has always wanted to dance, but she has never had the opportunity. There was only one female dancer who danced before, and the rest were all men.”
“That’s my mask. Even without opening the safe, I know it’s inside because it’s calling to me. I’m just retrieving something that belongs to me!”
In that conference room, Shubai said this with a determined and longing expression on her face. Feixiao and Professor Wang would never forget what happened that night, but now Shubai's uncle says she has never danced before.
Whose mask is that? What secrets does Shubai still hold? Who is that person dancing right now?
After meticulous investigation, the truth still did not surface, but instead became shrouded in even deeper mystery.
Feixiao gazed at the sacrificial bonfire, her white clothes fluttering in the wind. Beside the fire, the shadows of ghosts and warriors intertwined. "Shubai, Murong Shubai, perhaps in the end, you will be the victor!" Feixiao murmured, a look of admiration on her face. Perhaps no one had ever let her fall into such a fog. She, who had always remained detached from the world, who thought herself perfectly clear-headed about everything, had also been deceived.
"Never mind that!" Professor Wang hurriedly pushed Shubai's uncle, "Stop it quickly, or what if there's real danger?"
"Okay, okay! I'll go right now!" he said, about to tell the shirtless young men who were energetically drumming to stop.
"Wait a minute!" Fei Xiao suddenly said from behind.
"What's wrong?" Professor Wang really didn't know what this person was thinking. He was the one who shouted the loudest to stop earlier, and now he's the one stepping in to stop it.
Feixiao smiled and shook her head, seemingly eager to see a good show unfold. Turning to Professor Wang, she said, "There are so many strange things in this matter. Don't you want to know what will happen in the end?" As she spoke, her eyes looked at the shadowy, ghostly open space. "Everything will become clear once this dance is over!"
“But…but…” Professor Wang pointed worriedly, “Chen Kai is still inside!”
"Don't worry, I'll help him!" Fei Xiao said, waving her hand, crossing her arms, facing the dance floor, regaining her usual composure, as if she wouldn't be moved even if the sky were to fall.
Professor Wang gazed at his slender, white back and suddenly felt that this man was so composed that even he, at his age, couldn't achieve such composure. His best friend was in danger, yet he remained so indifferent. How many years must one endure to achieve such detachment from worldly affairs?
Chen Kai felt drenched in sweat. How many laps had he done? It seemed to be the sixth lap. It felt like his entire life and energy were about to be exhausted.
He glanced at the others, but they were all expressionless, wearing masks, and he had no idea how the others were doing.
"You're the one who got eaten by the ghost!"
That afternoon, Grandma Mi's words suddenly echoed in his mind again: eaten by a ghost? Eaten by a ghost?
"My brother lost an arm to a ghost..."
Chen Kai's mind was completely muddled. In his hazy state, he saw a jumble of ghostly figures before him, their faces green and red, vividly depicted against the backdrop of the campfire. It seemed as if he were facing certain death, surrounded by ghosts, all eyeing his fragile life, waiting for him to weaken so they could pounce and devour him.
Don't overthink it, just focus on finishing the last lap.
Three to the left, four to the right, he followed the dancer in front of him and spun around a few more times. That dancer was so skilled, was it Shubai? He was too tired to think anymore, he just vaguely followed the person in front of him in circles.
Suddenly, something cool landed on his face, jolting him awake. He looked up and saw that the moon had disappeared. Fine snowflakes began to fall gently.
The snow seemed to add a touch of brightness to this simple dance, and the onlookers outside seemed to be shocked by the atmosphere, watching silently without making a sound.
In the empty space, there was only the sound of drums, the crackling of burning firewood, and the light footsteps of the dancers.
It's the last lap. Chen Kai silently recited the steps in his mind. There are only a few more steps, and it will be over. Then everything will be over. Maybe he was just scaring himself. There will be no ghosts, no one will turn into a ghost, and no ghosts will eat people.
He gazed at the ground covered with a thin layer of snow, and his mood suddenly improved, his steps becoming lighter.
The shadows of dancers on the ground were magnified infinitely by the campfire, making them look like real ghosts. Chen Kai glanced at them and found it amusing. In fact, many things are like this; you only realize they are nothing special when you get closer.
When he looked again, he suddenly stopped laughing. There was a horned figure, tall and menacing, except that the figure had a single horn.
Is there a mask with horns? Chen Kai suddenly felt a chill run down his spine and his legs went weak, because the horned figure seemed to be right behind him.
As Professor Wang watched, his palms suddenly began to sweat. He had counted twice already, and there were seven people. It wasn't easy to count because they were dancing around the campfire, but there were definitely seven people. When did that person appear? How could someone just appear out of thin air?
"Hey!" Professor Wang started looking for Fei Xiao next to him, but when he turned around, he found that Fei Xiao had already slipped away at some point.
Chen Kai quickly turned around and finally saw the person behind him clearly. The person was also wearing a mask, but it was more lifelike, with red paint seemingly about to drip off the mask.
Is it really a ghost? Or is it an illusion created by the snow?
Before he could think much about it, he smelled a fishy odor coming from behind him. He was startled. This was a fishy smell that should only be emitted by wild beasts. How could he smell it here?
He hurriedly turned around and saw a huge mouth in front of him, with rows of fangs inside, and a red tongue curled up like a snake inside the mouth.
"Ah! What is this!" Chen Kai cried out and raised his steel knife to parry, but it was too late. The mouth was about to swallow his head, and the stench was almost making him faint.
"You'll be the next one eaten by a ghost!"
"Help!" Chen Kai cried out, but who could save him? It was all over; he could only close his eyes and wait to die.
Suddenly someone shoved him, and with a thud, he fell face-first onto the cold ground.
The gaping maw bit empty air.
The one who pushed him was also a warrior with a red ghost face, who was now in Chen Kai's place, confronting the ghost-like thing. It was he who had just saved him.
"Is it Feixiao?" Chen Kai sat on the ground, feeling weak in the legs, as if he had just been on the verge of death.
"It wasn't me!" Suddenly, he felt a chill on his face as someone ripped off his mask. The voice was Fei Xiao's.
"You finally helped me~ You scared me to death~" Fei Xiao, dressed in white and wearing a mask, was about to do something. In a flash, he snatched the steel knife from her hand.
"What are you going to do?" Chen Kai was confused. Was he going to kill a ghost? Or was he going to dance for him?
"I'll take your place. If this dance is missing one person, the barrier will be broken!" After saying that, he took a few steps forward and joined the group.
Feixiao chose a spot right behind the dancer with horns, and together with the person who had just saved him, the two of them sandwiched the intruder between them.
He then observed it more closely. In the fine snow, he could see that the thing was definitely not human; it was taller than a human, with longer limbs, and its body was covered in scales. And for some reason, the monster moved in the same direction as their dance, unable to take an extra step or skip a few steps. When Fei Xiao's knife came, it could only extend its long, blue claws to parry. Could this be the barrier? This battle was like a dance, following fixed steps and postures, except that the dancers were gambling with their lives.
Chen Kai stood up unsteadily, taking two steps back. He could no longer predict the outcome of the dance. The figure in crimson white before him stood out starkly against the others. He moved closer and further away, his sword flashing like water, his black hair as black as ink, his figure fluttering like a butterfly, a truly beautiful sight.
Before long, the people around were already talking about it. Everyone noticed that there was an extra person. That person was Feixiao, the only one who was not wearing a dance costume. She was as light and graceful as a swallow and dressed in white as snow. She was so eye-catching that no one noticed the ghost with fangs.
Suddenly, the monster stretched out its claw and grabbed the dancer in front of it in the face, and it was clear that there was no way to avoid it.
"Wow!" Chen Kai, watching from the side, broke out in a cold sweat.
Upon seeing this, Fei Xiao slashed at the monster's back with her sword. The monster had no time to dodge and had to stop, then spun around. These were originally their dance moves, but now they looked incredibly dangerous.
With a "smack," the dancer's mask fell to the ground, revealing a beautiful yet indifferent face—it was Shubai's face.
"Danger!" Feixiao shouted. "Shubai, be careful! Showing your human face to a ghost will only embolden it!"
"Understood!" Shubai said, picking up her knife and turning around, still following the steps that a dance should follow.
Sure enough, the ghost began to attack Shubai relentlessly, its saliva dripping down its body and onto the ground. If it weren't for the barrier, it probably would have pounced on Shubai and eaten her right away.
The other dancers also began to sense something was wrong; the fishy smell grew stronger and stronger, drowning out the acrid smell of the campfire. Their dance steps began to falter.
"Don't stop!" Chen Kai shouted from the side, "Let's walk a few more laps, or we'll all be in danger!"
His shout had a significant impact. Upon hearing the danger, the dancers disregarded everything else, threw down their knives, and scattered in all directions.
It's over, it's over! Chen Kai felt his heart sink to the bottom. With only three shadows left by the fire, what was going to happen?
The monster seemed to break free of its restraints, its limbs no longer as clumsy as before, and it leaped up, heading straight for Shubai.
Shubai never expected that the dancers would suddenly disperse, and she was caught off guard and didn't know what to do.
Just as the monster was about to reach her, someone was faster than it. This person, also wearing a mask, grabbed her and pulled her aside. She slipped and fell to the ground.
"Little girl, leave these things to me. Only ghosts can fight ghosts!"
"Who are you?" Shu Bai was taken aback. Who this person was was completely unexpected.
"I need to ask you who you are!" the man said, turning back to fight the ghost. He wielded a sword with graceful, fluid movements, his white figure resembling a nimble fox, swift and agile.
However, his knife seemed to have no effect on the monster; he could only dodge after spinning around several times, which was extremely dangerous.
Those around, seeing the six-person dance turn into a two-person fight, were confused and occasionally started to jeering. Even the dancers who had just fled for their lives stood by, masks in hand, completely bewildered.
"What on earth is going on? Where should I cut?" Fei Xiao shouted as she ran. This ghost seemed to harbor a lot of resentment and was not easy to deal with.
"Horns!" Shubai, sitting on the ground, shouted to him, "Cut off his horns, and he'll disappear!"
The snow continued to fall, growing heavier and heavier. Chen Kai felt as if a beautiful dance of romance and beauty was unfolding before his eyes, rather than a battle.
Feixiao's white shadow seemed to blend into the snow, swaying so lightly that his movements were indistinct, so ethereal that he seemed otherworldly.
"Let's go help him!" Chen Kai said, pulling Shubai up from the ground.
"No, you'll only make things worse!" Shubai said, stopping him. "Besides, that thing isn't human; it only attacks one target at a time. Your friend should be fine."
"How do you know so much?" Chen Kai asked her in surprise.
Shubai smiled at him, her eyes full of pride: "I'm the one who cut off its other horn!"
Before he could finish speaking, Fei Xiao had already leaped to a high place and slashed down at the monster's horn with her sword. At the same time, a blue claw grabbed his head, seemingly trying to twist it off alive.
"Be careful, Feixiao!" Chen Kai shouted, hoping that Feixiao would be alright!
As soon as the words were spoken, both the man and the ghost fell to the ground simultaneously, their fate unknown.
Upon seeing this scene, Chen Kai felt his heart stop beating. He snatched the long knife from Shu Bai's hand and ran over.
On the white snow, a shadow as white as the snow itself lay prostrate.
"Feixiao, Feixiao, are you alright?" Chen Kai said as he went to help him up, not caring about ghosts anymore.
"It's alright, it's just that the mask is broken!" Fei Xiao said, raising her head. A trace of blood trickled down her face, adding to her beauty against her white skin.
"That, that one..." Chen Kai pointed to the huge body lying not far away, afraid that it might suddenly jump up again.
"Hehe!" Feixiao said, standing up. "Look at this, what is it?"
With a flick of his wrist, he revealed a horn, over a foot long, like a gnarled branch covered in knots.
"What exactly is that?" Chen Kai asked, pointing at the monster.
Feixiao took a few steps forward, reached out and lifted its clothes. The torso inside had turned to ash, as if it were a body from hundreds of years ago.
"This thing might be something like a war god that warriors used to worship! It might be a bloodthirsty monster, or a ruthless killer, but we don't know anymore!"
"Could this be the legendary Nalan? A warrior like a ghost!" Professor Wang, who had been watching the commotion, also rushed over, as he was extremely interested in these kinds of things.
“Not necessarily!” Fei Xiao shook her head. “Who would know about legends from hundreds of years ago? Maybe Nalan is actually a ghost, and now he’s attached himself to the resentment of the village’s war ghosts, using this dance to devour blood!”
Chen Kai gazed at the charred body, his heart filled with emotion. Nalan's mask, Nalan's dance—such a beautiful legend. He simply couldn't reconcile the monster before him with the legendary handsome man.
"That's why I say it's better to leave some mystery around historical things!" Professor Wang said, shaking his head.
