Capítulo 4

"Master, don't be angry. I told you long ago that Feng Xing is unreliable!"

"Yes, I understand. You may leave now. I know what I'm doing. However, I hope this matter is known only to the two of us!"

"Yes, Master. I take my leave!"

Lightning lowered his head and retreated, a smug sneer creeping onto his face.

On the morning of the second day after Ye Feng and his group arrived in Guhua Town, the sky was exceptionally blue and clear.

After a full night's rest and adjustment, everyone woke up this morning feeling refreshed and in a great mood.

"Meng'er, which dress do you think looks better on me?" Yu Xue rummaged through all the clothes in her bag and tried them on one by one.

"Good heavens! My dear lady. No wonder your backpack is so bulging, it's full of clothes!"

"Look how hot it is here! Of course we need to bring extra clothes to change into!"

"Alright, I think you're up to no good!" Meng'er lightly slapped Yu Xue.

"My dear, please help me decide which one looks prettier on me!" Yu Xue pleaded.

Because it was a mountain inn without a large full-length mirror like at home, Yu Xue couldn't try on any clothes to see which looked best on her, so she had to ask Meng'er to help her.

No wonder they say the cruelest torture for a woman is to dress her in a beautiful dress and then lock her in an empty room without a mirror. Meng'er thought to herself, "That's really true!"

"Miss, we're taking a mountain road, you should wear a T-shirt and jeans!"

"Oh, that's so boring! I want to show off a bit!"

"Alright, alright, I knew you loved to show off, didn't I?"

"No, Meng'er, you're so naughty!" Yu Xue stuck out her tongue at Meng'er.

Meng'er smiled and shook her head. This Yu Xue is just childish. Doesn't she know where she is? She still loves to show off. I really don't know how she got mixed up with that blockhead Ling Bing.

Are all the connections in this world truly predetermined by fate? Are we destined to follow only one path arranged by destiny? When the sun had fully risen above the horizon, everyone finally gathered in the courtyard. Ye Feng felt a little relieved to see that everyone was in relatively good spirits, and couldn't help but laugh at himself for thinking too much yesterday!

After registering at the tourist information center in Guhua Town, everyone chatted and laughed while waiting for the guide from Guhua Town!

"Hehe, you're still young! Yesterday you were like a wilted eggplant, but today you're as strong as a young pine tree here!"

A burst of laughter came from the doorway. Everyone thought the laughter sounded familiar, and upon closer inspection, they realized it was Uncle Gu.

"Hey, Uncle Gu, why are you leading the way?"

"What's wrong, young man? Are you worried this old man won't be able to keep up with you? Don't let my age fool you, I'm still quite healthy. Once we get up the mountain, I'll be just as good as you!"

"Uncle, you're joking. I meant, who looks after your inn?" Ye Feng blushed, realizing he had said something wrong, and quickly changed the subject.

"Heh, when there are guests, I watch the inn; when there are no guests, I go up the mountain to lead the way. As you get older, you can't stay idle!" After saying that, he took out his pipe and started packing tobacco leaves.

"Uncle Gu, you really have a business mind!" someone said, and everyone burst into laughter.

Zheng Qi's face was gloomy. He glanced at Uncle Gu, his lips twitched slightly, but he remained silent.

Old Gu packed the tobacco leaves, glanced at Zheng Qi out of the corner of his eye, then picked up his old pipe, took a light puff, and slowly exhaled a thin layer of smoke, looking relaxed and content.

"Hey, Brother Mo Han, what brings you here too!" Cheng Jin called out towards the door.

Everyone looked towards the door and saw that Mo Han had quietly appeared by the door at some point.

Mo Han remained arrogant, ignoring everyone and staring blankly at the sky. Having already experienced his cold attitude the previous night, no one paid him any more attention.

"Alright, everyone's here, let's go!" Old Man Gu picked up his pipe, tapped it on his shoe, then stuffed it into Yin's belt, stood up, and led the way out the door.

Ye Feng and the others hurriedly followed.

Zheng Qi walked slowly at the back, and he saw Mo Hanyi standing by the door watching him. He pretended not to see her and slowly walked past him.

Meng'er and Yu Xue chatted and laughed, pointing at the mountain and chattering away. It seemed they were treating this visit to the house as a spring outing.

Li Fan and Ling Bing were whispering to each other as they walked, their heads huddled together.

Ye Feng was exasperated by Cheng Jin's persistent pestering and was about to vent his anger on him, but Cheng Jin had a carefree and smiling face, so Ye Feng couldn't do anything about it.

Zheng Qi looked at the group of people in front of him with deep concern. His heart felt as if it had been stabbed. He knew that a catastrophe was inevitable on this trip to the mansion, but he could not stop it. He could only watch helplessly as his friends were drawn into a disaster that he could not have foreseen.

You can never escape the fortunes and misfortunes destined in your life; you can only face them bravely. Even if you know that death is only a hair's breadth away from you, you still have to endure all the fear, pain, and torment.

Old Uncle led the way, followed by Ye Feng and his six companions, along with Cheng Jin and Mo Han, whom they had just met, and two other people from Guhua Town.

The mountain path was relatively easy to walk on; although it was a bit damp, it wasn't particularly muddy. The trees on both sides were lush and tall, and the wildflowers were in full bloom. Occasionally, a pheasant or a rabbit would dart past them, startling Meng'er and Yu Xue, who would both laugh and scream.

"By the way, Yu Xue, what happened to that little rabbit? I didn't see it when I woke up this morning."

Meng'er saw a little gray rabbit run past her and remembered the little white rabbit that she and Yu Xue had rescued yesterday.

Yu Xue smiled slyly, tilted her head, and said:

"Take a guess?"

"Did you give it to Uncle Gu's granddaughter?" Meng'er asked yesterday when she saw Uncle Gu's granddaughter affectionately touching the little white rabbit.

"Hehe, no way!"

"Where did you put it? What if it gets hungry after we've been out all day?"

"Haha, don't worry, I put it in my bag!"

"What? Yu Xue, you put it in your bag?"

"Yeah, Meng'er, don't make a fuss. I just put it in the bag on my shoulder!" Yu Xue said, winking playfully at Meng'er.

"What?! Why did you bring it along too?!"

"I think it looks so pitiful, all alone there, and its wounds haven't healed yet," Yu Xue said, turning around and putting on a pitiful expression. She knew that Meng'er's compassion was even more overflowing than hers.

"Sigh, you!" Meng'er sighed, both amused and annoyed, and gave her a playful slap. Yu Xue really couldn't do anything about her.

The group chatted and laughed all the way, and soon arrived at the south slope. Standing on the top of the slope, looking down into the valley, the mansion appeared and disappeared in the mist, making it seem even more mysterious and ethereal.

Seeing that everyone was tired, Ye Feng suggested to Uncle Gu that they take a break before continuing. Uncle Gu agreed with a smile.

The group split up in pairs and found a clean spot to sit and rest.

Zheng Qi found a good spot where he could see the entire mansion, and then looked down into the valley below.

All that could be seen above the mansion was a dark, oppressive mass, with a thick layer of black fog tightly enveloping the entire mansion.

A gust of cold wind blew by, and Zheng Qi felt a little suffocated. The spirit pearl on his chest began to slowly heat up, emitting a faint red light that flickered intermittently. Zheng Qi tightened the pouch containing the spirit pearl. Then he silently recited a passage of the Heart Sutra, and the spirit pearl gradually cooled down, its red light slowly dimming.

Zheng Qi's brows furrowed even more. He thought of his master's words before he left:

"Qi'er, this bead is called the Spirit Bead. When I brought you back home, it was always hanging in your little magic bag. There was also a sutra in the magic bag."

At this point, the master took out a piece of yellow paper from his pocket and handed it to Zheng Qi.

The paper was inscribed with neat, small characters written in calligraphy: "This bead is a divine pearl left behind from the creation of the world in ancient times. Because it emits a scorching red light when it encounters demons and monsters, it is also known as the Spirit Pearl. If one consumes this pearl, one can control all the gods and demons in the world. This pearl comes with a Heart Sutra, which can suppress their spirituality. May those with the right affinity obtain it and use it wisely."

Upon seeing this, Zheng Qi asked his master if he knew the specific origin of the bead. The master replied:

Regarding this bead, I have heard the patriarch mention its origin.

In ancient times, the four poles collapsed, the nine provinces were torn apart, the sky could not fully cover the earth, and the earth could not fully support it. Fire raged without ceasing, and waters surged without end. Fierce beasts devoured the people, and birds of prey snatched the old and weak. So Nuwa refined five-colored stones to mend the sky. After Nuwa rebuilt the sky, one five-colored stone was left and discarded between heaven and earth. That five-colored stone absorbed the essence of heaven and earth, the spirit of the sun and moon, and was polished by the seven axe-axes of heaven: wind, rain, thunder, lightning, clouds, snow, and frost. Thus, it was refined into a pearl of extremely spiritual energy and divine power.

"Qi'er, this spirit pearl is no ordinary object; it seems to be from another world. When I found you, this pearl was already hanging on your body, so it seems that you have some connection with this spirit pearl. It is likely that your future tribulation will be related to it, so you must take good care of this pearl and never be careless!"

That day, Zheng Qi kept his master's parting instructions firmly in mind. Apart from the fox demon who tried to steal the pearl that night, but was driven away by his master, nothing else happened.

But ever since he set off for Guhua Town that day, Zheng Qi felt increasingly uneasy. Along the way, the Spirit Pearl intermittently became scorching hot, emitting a faint red light several times. Each time, Zheng Qi silently recited the Heart Sutra to suppress it. Zheng Qi had a vague feeling that demons must be rampant in Guhua Town.

Thinking of this, he suddenly heard someone whisper to him in their mind's eye:

"When the Spirit Pearl appeared in the world, all demons went mad. Those who will destroy the demons and quell the chaos are Bei Qi and Nan Han!"

Zheng Qi was startled. He had heard his master utter these words before he left, but he hadn't paid them any attention at the time. After he finished reciting them, he heard his master look up at the sky and sigh, "The will of Heaven, could this all be the will of Heaven?"

At that moment, he asked his master about the tribulation he was about to experience: Could he only turn hostility into friendship through his own strength?

The master stared at him for a long time, then said quietly: "In the future, someone will help him."

After saying this, the master drifted away.

"Could it be?" Thinking of this, Zheng Qi's heart stirred. He turned around to look for Mo Han and saw him sitting under a big tree not far from Ye Feng and the others, leisurely chewing on a blade of grass, his eyes half-closed, looking half-asleep.

Suddenly, he saw Mo Han smile at him, but in the blink of an eye, he reverted to his usual cold expression.

Zheng Qi turned around, sighed, and felt a pang of sadness when he thought of his master. Since that day of parting, he had never seen his master again, nor had he received a single word from him. He wondered how his master was doing now, and whether everything was alright.

"Are you still spacing out? Let's go." Ye Feng walked over and tugged at his sleeve.

Zheng Qi nodded, pulled himself out of his thoughts, and turned to look for Mo Han, only to find that Mo Han had already walked ahead.

When Uncle Gu and his party arrived at the mansion, it was almost noon.

After a morning of hurried travel, Ye Feng and the others were all showing signs of exhaustion, especially the two young ladies, Meng'er and Yu Xue, who had been incredibly excited and curious at first but later complained incessantly. When they reached the foot of the mountain, about fifty meters from the mansion, no one wanted to walk any further, so they found a place to sit down and rest. Ye Feng rubbed his aching legs and looked at Uncle Gu and the others, who seemed perfectly fine, and couldn't help but feel secretly ashamed.

The group discussed waiting until after lunch to adjust their mental state before entering the mansion.

The spiritual pearl on Zheng Qi's chest emitted a scorching red light once again, and Zheng Qi quickly recited a passage of the Heart Sutra to suppress the spiritual pearl.

These past few days, Zheng Qi had been so flustered by the spirit pearl that he had lost his usual composure and calmness. At this moment, he was feeling increasingly uneasy and nervous. Wiping the fine sweat from his forehead, he suddenly looked up and saw Old Man Gu sitting cross-legged in the grass not far away, smoking his pipe and looking at him thoughtfully.

Zheng Qi stared coldly at him. Old Gu smiled awkwardly at him, then turned his head away and continued smoking his pipe.

"You idiot, what's wrong with you? You look so lost. I'm asking you a question."

Yu Xue's soprano voice rang out with a "boom," and everyone's attention was drawn to her.

Ling Bing blushed and moved his lips, but didn't say anything. Everyone knew that whenever Yu Xue scolded him, he would always blush and lower his head without saying a word, just like a wronged child.

"What's wrong, Yu Xue? What did Ling Bing do to offend you this time?" Ye Feng always liked to help Ling Bing suppress Yu Xue's unreasonable temper.

"I asked him to bring me my bag, but he just didn't say a word, acting like I didn't exist. Don't you think he's deliberately trying to annoy me?" Yu Xue said angrily, her face flushed.

"Ling Bing, what's wrong with you!" Ye Feng also noticed Ling Bing's distraught appearance.

"No, nothing! I didn't hear it," Ling Bing said softly, her head down.

"Didn't you hear me? I think you've seen a ghost, you're completely out of your mind!" Yu Xue said irritably.

Suddenly, the bright sunshine in the sky turned dark, and a cold wind blew by, making everyone feel a chilling cold.

No one spoke, and a look of panic crossed everyone's face. The surroundings were eerily quiet; even the usually chirping birds seemed to have vanished instantly into the unfathomable jungle. The lush green mountains now appeared ashen, and in the distance, a dilapidated, gray mansion stood menacingly guarding their arrival. A strange sense of oppression swelled within each of them.

Suddenly, the little rabbit struggled and jumped out of the bag.

"Yu Xue, quick, the little rabbit ran away!" Yu Xue was startled and hurriedly grabbed the bag. Fortunately, the bag strap got tangled in the little rabbit's injured foot and prevented it from escaping.
