Pei Si: "?"
Pei Si pinched his cheek, squinted, and said, "I could tell even if you didn't say it. Why do you have to emphasize it again to deliberately provoke me?"
Upon hearing this, Yu An fell silent.
The two escaped ten minutes later. The waiting car at the door was still there, and the surviving team member sitting in the hood was still crying while holding the other person.
"Don't leave yet! Wait a minute, my brother Pei is still inside!"
"Boss Xie said he'll collect my brother Pei's body! Don't rush off, wait with me for Boss Xie."
The person who came to meet them tried to pry the team member's hands off, muttering, "I'm not waiting. My legs go weak just looking at Xie the Devil. Don't try to pull me away."
Another person started the car. He looked down and pressed the instruments on the car, babbling, "Tens of thousands of polluters in the Northern Territory were slaughtered by Xie Shashen in a single day. Damn, even mad dogs wag their tails when they see him."
"Rumors! Rumors! Our Boss Xie is a very loving person, so stop reading those fabricated posts on gossip forums all day long!"
Just as the car was about to drive away, the tightly closed laboratory door was opened.
Pei Si closed the door behind her, while Yu An gently pressed a spot on the wall three centimeters to the right of the door lock, a spot that looked like an ordinary wall.
Once you press this button, the Secret Shield Research Institute will be completely locked down.
The monsters inside won't escape, and outsiders don't need to come in to their deaths.
No one noticed anything unusual about Yu An's subtle actions.
At this moment, everyone's eyes were only on Pei Si. His teammates hugged Pei Si tightly, crying with joy: "Brother Pei, you, you're not dead!"
Pei Si patted his back and explained, "I was knocked unconscious by the explosion, and Yu An dragged me out."
Upon hearing this, his teammates hugged Yu An again: "Little lucky charm, thank you for bringing Brother Pei out! If Brother Pei were really gone, I wouldn't know how to explain it when I got back."
Pei Si still had injuries from the explosion.
He got into the car, gestured for Yu An to sit next to him, and then asked for the first-aid kit to treat the wound.
The car sped along, heading towards the ground.
As the altitude increases, the temperature also rises steadily.
Yu An took off the thick coat that Pei Si had draped over him, and his face turned red from the heat in the closed car.
Everyone was resting because they were tired, and those who weren't resting had their eyes closed and chatted idly for a bit.
Among the team led by Pei Si, the surviving member was named Lu Chao.
Lu Chao made a phone call in the car. Because of the small space, the sound from the other end of the phone was clearly audible to everyone.
Lu Chao stammered "Boss" before whispering, "Boss, you don't need to come. Brother Pei, Brother Pei is alive again! Aren't you surprised...?"
Xie Chiyuan sat in the helicopter that had just taken off, gripping the control stick with one hand, coldly avoiding the monster's pursuit behind him.
He said into the headset with a blank expression, "I'm so surprised!"
Lu Chao: "..."
When Lu Chao heard Xie Chiyuan say "oh" in such a calm and steady voice, he was so startled that he almost dropped his phone.
"Boss, I really didn't lie about the situation just now. I genuinely thought Brother Pei couldn't get out. Um, you didn't already get here, did you?"
Upon hearing this question, Yu An, who was secretly fanning herself with her hand, noticed that everyone in the car, who had been lounging around, suddenly straightened up.
They all stared intently at Lu Chao's phone, their expressions solemn.
As everyone held their breath in anticipation, a casual laugh rang out from the other end of the phone.
"Ten minutes ago, in order to save time to collect your brother Pei's body, I abandoned the original plan and took down the B60 pollutant's lair ahead of schedule. I ignored its tantrums."
"The helicopter's already halfway there, and you're telling me I don't need to come?"
As Lu Chao's grip on the phone trembled, Xie Chiyuan announced in a chilling tone, "Just wait, today I'll have to collect either your corpse or Pei Si's."
Lu Chao: "!"
Lu Chao stared at the disconnected call and rushed towards Pei Si in terror: "Brother Pei, help!"
Pei Si, without any conscience, closed her eyes and lay back.
"I'm a patient and need to rest. Please don't disturb me unless necessary."
The car immediately erupted into chaos. Yu An didn't disturb them; he raised his hand and rubbed his ear.
The boss's voice just now was very pleasant, especially that casual laugh—deep, magnetic, and seemingly carrying a subtle electric current.
Yu An rubbed his ears, feeling as if he had been electrocuted.
After a long commotion, the car finally reached land.
Pei Si stretched and rolled down the window. He gestured to Yu An, "We'll be there in a little while. A plane is coming to pick us up."
Their current location is on the way to the Secret Shield Underground Research Institute.
This location is very remote; the people who built the Secret Shield back then must have chosen this godforsaken spot from who-knows-where.
The group waited for the helicopter to pick them up. Yu An looked up, his eyes searching the sky for a helicopter, preferably the one he had just called.
"Yu An, come here."
Pei Si changed her clothes and brought water and a towel for Yu An to clean up.
Yu An is a clean person. As soon as he sees water, he rushes to wipe his face and hands, and then wipe the parts of his body that have been wiped.
He wiped his face very carefully, folding the large towel in half, then covering his entire face with it and rubbing it vigorously up and down.
Pei Si couldn't help but laugh as she watched him wipe his face.
This kid is washing his face like a kitten, it's quite funny.
After Yu An wiped himself clean, he even dipped his finger in water and pressed down hard on the little tuft of hair sticking up on his head.
Despite pressing it several times, the ahoge (cowlick) still stubbornly stuck out. Yu An pulled a sullen face, remained silent for a few seconds, and then suddenly punched his head.
Broken hair, disobedient.
Pei Si: "..."
Pei Si: "Pfft."
He watched as the usually quiet and well-behaved child became angry at the cowlick, and was teased until his wound almost reopened.

Chapter 4
Upon hearing Pei Si's chuckle, Yu An immediately lowered his hand and looked over.
Pei Si covered her smile with her fist, pretending nothing had happened.
“Come on, Yu’an.” He changed the subject, taking out paper and pen to write: “Let’s do a little survey so I can take you back. Can you read?”
Yu An hesitated when he saw the words on the paper.
He's already pretending to be deaf, is he going to pretend to be illiterate now?
Pei Si patiently waited for him to look for a while, and after he finally nodded, she continued writing: "Tell me your place of origin, and why you went to Midun?"
Yu An isn't stupid.
He knew his origins couldn't be discovered; after all, even if they were, it wouldn't matter, he still had ten little mutant offspring.
"I'm sick, and I don't remember a lot of things."
Yu An slowly began to explain: "My mother passed away when I was four years old. My father took me to the hospital. Every time I finished treatment, I had some aftereffects, such as not being able to remember many things."
He wasn't completely lying.
During his treatment, he would forget something every time he woke up, but it was always something unimportant.
His parents, Selina, and his children...
He remembers it all!
After explaining his background, Yu An started making up stories: "I came to Midun with other people. I don't know them, but they said we could make a fortune here."
There are too many outsiders in the Secret Shield, and almost everyone who goes in dies.
There is no way to verify the truth since the dead are dead.
Pei Si held the paper in her hand, falling into an eerie silence for a moment.
This little lucky guy, you could say he's lucky because he lost all his family. You could also say he's unlucky because even special forces would perish in that hellish research institute, yet he still managed to come out unscathed.
"Uh, what's your father's name?"
"Gu Ainan".
Where is your mother?
"Yu Nan."
Yu An took his mother's surname, and his father changed his name after meeting his mother.
Once, after Xiao Si learned his parents' names, he put on a serious face and analyzed earnestly, "Uncle Gu's behavior is called being love-struck."
Yu An doesn't have much of an impression of his mother; he only remembers that his father loved his mother very much.
Pei Si wrote down his parents' names, asked a few more questions, then put away his pen and paper, a hint of worry on his face.
"Your answer to this question... didn't give me any crucial information."
I can remember my father's name, but I can't remember where he lives or what he does.
Pei Si ruffled his hair roughly, deciding to take him back first. Several new living quarters had been built in the West District; staying in the quarters was better than wandering outside.
"Go eat something in the car."
Pei Si is a major general in the Sixth Army Corps. Once he returns, he'll undoubtedly be back on a relentless mission schedule. He probably won't have many more chances to see Yu An then.
Yu An obediently followed Pei Si to get the food.
