Chapitre 6

These words were like a protective charm. Upon seeing the landing helicopter, joy spread across the faces of the group.

"Thank you, Father!"

Exhausted, Lu Chao immediately recognized his father on the spot! Overjoyed, he cried, "We can leave now!"

With Xie Chiyuan here, we don't need them to get in the way!

Xie Chiyuan stepped out of the helicopter, dressed in a black metallic combat suit. He was a little taller than Pei Si, and his long legs encased in trousers were somewhat enviable to Yu An.

Yu An has always wanted to grow taller.

The group all retreated, and Xie Chiyuan took over.

Xie Chiyuan wore something resembling a metal mask over the lower half of his face, stained with someone's blood. The remaining half of his face was covered by a prominent nose, and his dark eyes seemed to exude a chilling aura.

"Thank you, Father. I'm leaving this to you." Lu Chao ran over, still carrying Yu An.

Seeing Xie Chiyuan staring at Yu An, Lu Chao didn't forget to introduce him amidst his busy schedule: "This is Little Lucky Charm. We brought him back from the research institute. He's the one who saved Brother Pei."

Xie Chiyuan's gaze lingered on Yu An's face for a few seconds.

Then, he tossed Yu An a lunchbox: "A thank you gift."

On his way here, Xie Chiyuan was stopped by a seafood. He casually scrambled some seafood from the large seafood to make a small seafood platter.

Yu An was clearly surprised to receive a thank-you gift. He paused for a moment, then hugged the lunchbox.

Xie Chiyuan left after throwing it away to deal with the trouble ahead.

This time, Lu Chao didn't put Yu An in his own car; instead, he put Yu An in one of the vehicles belonging to the people who were being evacuated.

"Little lucky charm, you go first. Our car is going to scout the route, it's not safe. Don't worry, I'll come find you in a bit."

As Lu Chao spoke, he forcibly put Yu An into the car.

Yu An was an obedient person. After getting into the car, she opened the lunchbox to see the gift she had just received.

Inside the small tin box, half of the box was filled with octopus tentacles cut into pieces.

Yu An: "..."

Yu An's face turned green instantly.

Especially after he finished inspecting one of the small tentacles, he turned his head and forcefully pried open the back door, shouting, "Let me out! Let me out!"

Yu An was so angry his eyes reddened, but no one opened the door for him. He pressed his face against the rear window, staring in Xie Chi's direction, and continued angrily, "Give me back my child!!!"

His baby octopus was made into seafood!

In the back of the car, Pei Si looked at Yu An, whose eyes were red and who was muttering something, and felt a pang of sadness in her heart: "It seems that Yu An is reluctant to part with me."

This is just a change of car, and the child is already so agitated.

Lu Chao sighed, "This little lucky charm probably doesn't want to be separated from me either. He's so well-behaved, both cute and handsome. When we get back, I'll adopt him as my younger brother!"

The two were deeply moved as they watched Yu An still banging on the window.

Chapter 5

Yu An, who was in the car, patted the window so hard that his palms turned red.

He watched the figure behind him grow smaller and smaller until he finally stopped. The lunchbox he held in his arms was cold, as cold as Yu An's heart.

A gaunt man, seeing that he had calmed down, glared at him coldly and said, "Stop making trouble?"

Yu An looked down at the small tentacles and sniffed.

The man's gaze shifted downwards, landing on his box, and he spoke again: "Would you sell this box of food? I'll buy it from you."

The man loved seafood, and he hadn't had a taste of it in a long time since the zombie outbreak.

Yu An hugged the box tightly, put on a stern face, and uttered two words: "Not for sale!"

These are the little tentacles of his pet dog, Xiao Ba; he can recognize them!

The baby octopus is a deep purple with a hint of brown, unlike other octopuses. Besides the difference in color, the baby octopus's tentacles are also unique.

Yu An knew every detail about each of the children.

His hands trembled as he squeezed the tentacle, trying to suppress the heartache of losing his cub, and analyzed the cub's condition.

Before he fell asleep, apart from the eldest cub who was about to reach maturity, the other cubs were still in their growth stage.

He didn't know exactly what the baby's body would look like when he reached maturity.

As Yu An thought about it, he became anxious. He wished he could jump out of the window again and run to the back to find the person whose face he couldn't even see clearly.

“Hey, I’m really rich.” The man who wanted to buy seafood walked up to him. There was a long scar on his right eye, from the corner of his eye to near his ear, which made him look a bit like a bandit.

Yu An was annoyed to no end, and he said angrily, "I said I'm not selling!"

These are Hachi's tentacles. He's going to bury them in the ground soon; he won't let anyone else eat them!

Yu An's repeated rejections made the man lose his composure, and his eyes revealed hostility. He looked Yu An up and down, then sneered and sat back down in his seat.

The car was mostly filled with women and children, including a pregnant woman who looked like she was about to give birth.

Everyone was quiet, so quiet it was almost deathly still.

Someone looked out the window. The once clean and tidy streets and roads were now filthy, and lone zombies could be seen wandering around from time to time. The ground was covered with bloodstains and black marks from burning gasoline.

"When will this hellish life finally end?"

The man clenched his fists and said angrily, "I just finished paying off my mortgage and now my house is gone! I don't know what I've been working so hard for all my life."

"All I want now is peace and safety." Someone chimed in, "As long as you're alive, there's still hope."

The people in the car had no interest in chatting, and even when they were expressing their dissatisfaction and anger, no one responded.

Holding her lunchbox, Yu An suddenly asked, "Uncle, Aunt, brother, sister, could I borrow your phone? I want to call my dad."

Having lived in the research institute for so many years, Yu An has only seen her father a handful of times.

His father rarely came to see him, and when he did, he wouldn't play with him. He would just sit beside him, watch him study and eat, and then leave when he went to sleep.

Sometimes Yu An even felt lost, wondering whether his father truly loved him.

Or rather, his father's kindness towards him, preparing birthday gifts for him, and allowing him to receive treatment at Mitan Hospital to prolong his life, were all simply because he was his mother's son.

Yu An could only get through to her father a few times a year, but now she really wanted to call him.

"Uncle and Aunt, I—"

"Stop talking nonsense. Can't you see that no one wants to lend it to you?" The skinny man who had a grudge against Yu An earlier took the opportunity to mock him.

Yu An's arguments with the man had long been noticed by others, and these arguments represented trouble to them.

Nobody wants to get into trouble.

After being interrupted, Yu An looked around at the people in the car. Only one little boy, despite his grandmother pulling him away, gave him his small phone.

Unfortunately, the little phone was a toy phone and couldn't make calls.

The car bumped along halfway through the journey.

The military vehicles escorting them stopped several zombie squads. The road ahead wasn't far; they just needed to hold on a little longer to reach the safe base.

Yu An pulled back against the glass.

The last military vehicle had disappeared from sight. The driver, who had clearly seen it, asked in a slightly panicked tone, "Where's the vehicle? Is the vehicle that was following us gone?"

"You keep driving, they'll follow."

"Yeah, drive faster, don't worry about them."

The driver was being urged to drive faster, but he still felt unsure.

They originally lived near a factory area. As everyone knows, factory areas that provide food and lodging are never short of people, so their journey was difficult.

With the military vehicle escort gone, the driver kept muttering to himself as he drove, "No zombies, no monsters, let me get through..."

The more you talk about something, the more likely it is to come to you.

As the driver earnestly muttered to himself, a man in a vest who looked like a long-distance runner suddenly darted from the roadside and slammed his face against the car window.

"roar--"

The man in the vest had his face pockmarked from being gnawed, and he was making a desperate growl from his throat, a sound that was both a threat and a call to his kind.

After that low growl, hordes of zombies, all wearing vests, ran out.

Besides both of them wearing white tank tops with numbers on them, they also had one other thing in common—

They all ran extremely fast.

"Where did they come from?! Why are they running so fast?!" The woman sitting next to Yu An looked devastated as she watched the group of long-distance runners scramble into the carriage.

Those who knew the inside story gritted their teeth and said, "This is a training camp for all kinds of sports! It's home to athletes of all kinds all year round."

The long-legged zombie in the white vest is undoubtedly a runner.

While the long-legged zombie was firmly stuck to the carriage, several zombies who were throwing shot puts were also called to come and eat at the buffet.

The shot put slammed onto the car with a thud.

Yu An could clearly feel the car inevitably slowing down and swerving erratically. Without assistance, if they actually stopped the car here, it would be tantamount to suicide.

"Drive carefully!"

The gaunt man in front of Yu An said sternly, "Once we get past this section, there won't be any more factories or these messy training camps on the road ahead!"

If they can get through this period, they will survive!

The driver's mental defenses were crumbling; he couldn't ignore the tapping on the window and the drooling. He was relying entirely on muscle reflexes to grip the steering wheel.

"Help! My window is going to be smashed! Get them out of here!"
