Kapitel 35

Her face turned deathly pale, and bright red blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Clearly, Ling Yun's sudden attack had caused her some harm.

"Why did you attack me? Was it because I found out your true identity?" Xia Zhen seemed completely unperturbed, calmly walking back to the top of the building from the void. She stopped a few meters away from Ling Yun, her mental energy field ready to be unleashed.

“You are not Xia Zhen.” Ling Yun said calmly, his words a bombshell.

"How did you see through it?" Xia Zhen asked slowly after a long silence.

“Appearances can be faked, but personality cannot. Even professional actors cannot completely imitate another person in a short period of time.” A sharp glint flashed in Ling Yun’s eyes. “You acted too schemingly, and you didn’t know my real purpose in asking Xia Zhen to come. Otherwise, you should have immediately realized something when I asked about Yang Yuqi.”

"Oh," Xia Zhen responded noncommittally.

"What have you done to Xia Zhen?!" Ling Yun suddenly shouted.

Xia Zhen smiled faintly, "You seem quite concerned about your little girlfriend. What, you like her?"

"I'm only asking you where she is!" Ling Yun said coldly.

“As long as you tell me your true identity and background, I will immediately return her to you,” Xia Zhen said calmly.

"Okay." Ling Yun immediately replied, and then quickly walked towards "Xia Zhen".

"What are you doing?" Xia Zhen's face turned cold. She took a few steps back and kept the same distance from Ling Yun.

"I just wanted to tell you quietly, afraid that others would hear. What? Are you scared?" Ling Yun stopped and said calmly.

“There’s no one here. I can hear you if you stand there and talk. You look honest, but you’re actually quite cunning.” Xia Zhen smiled.

"Alright, I'll tell you." Ling Yun sighed, raised his right arm high, and then slashed down hard at "Xia Zhen". With the slashing motion, a light as bright as a blade instantly burst forth from his palm, forming a visible cold gleam, and suddenly slashed towards "Xia Zhen".

This was a special technique Ling Yun had learned from the barrier. Besides his psychic eyes, it was the first special technique he had truly used to attack a superhuman. This superhuman disguised as Xia Zhen was clearly just trying to find out his origins, but Ling Yun never lied; it's just that no one believed him.

Since telling the truth had failed to satisfy the other party, and Ling Yun couldn't guarantee that even if they believed him, they would reveal Xia Zhen's whereabouts, it was better to take action. While force wasn't the best solution, it was often the quickest. Ling Yun knew that with only a few days of training, he might not be a match for his opponent, so he launched a sudden attack. Fortunately, the imposter was injured in the attack; otherwise, Ling Yun would have had to consider escaping before even trying to force Xia Zhen's whereabouts.

Xia Zhen's expression turned serious. She extended her slender fingers, conjuring a silver light shield in the air. A blade formed from a cold light arrived instantly, striking the light shield with a whoosh. The light shield trembled slightly, showing signs of instability, but quickly returned to normal.

Ling Yun's unease subsided slightly. It seemed that even if this imposter was stronger than him, there were limits to it; otherwise, their defenses wouldn't have been so weak. He crossed his hands, slashing diagonally with his left and right hands in succession, unleashing several blade beams at "Xia Zhen." The final strike emitted a dazzling ball of light, forming a lightning-like ray.

Xia Zhen had no time to retaliate, so she could only increase the weight and size of the silver light shield, holding it in front of her body to block all of Ling Yun's fierce attacks. However, under the continuous bombardment of the blade beams, the silver light that made up the shield had become extremely chaotic, and Ling Yun's control was excellent. Almost every blade beam struck the same spot on the shield. Finally, under the bombardment of the last beam, the silver light shield collapsed with a loud bang, instantly shattering into countless small, bright silver fragments.

Xia Zhen, having lost her defensive weapon, could only dodge the remaining part of the ray with a slender waist. The ray struck a railing like a cannonball, and with a creaking sound, the several-meter-long steel railing instantly shattered into countless fragments, which drifted and fell from the night sky.

Xia Zhen felt a tightness in her chest, and the salty blood rushed from her lungs to her throat. If she were to forcefully use her mental energy field again, she feared she would be injured even more severely. After taking a deep breath, she leaped high into the air, intending to disappear into the night sky. She was already injured, and Ling Yun's sudden attack had only exacerbated her injuries. If she didn't leave now, she feared she would truly be defeated by Ling Yun.

However, it seemed a little too late. Before Xia Zhen could use up all her strength in jumping, she felt a gentle telekinetic force wrapping around her ankle. This gentle telekinetic force didn't seem strong, but it was surprisingly resilient. As a result, Xia Zhen's body suddenly stopped in mid-air and was immediately pulled back to the rooftop.

The gentle telekinetic energy transformed into countless tiny tributaries, searching for gaps in Xia Zhen's body, trying to slip inside. Xia Zhen gritted her teeth, instantly releasing her mental field, immediately blasting away all the external telekinetic energy. This boy's telekinetic energy wasn't strong, it could even be described as very weak, but his control was extremely precise. Once he controlled her with his mental field, there was no way to resist.

However, her injuries made it unsuitable for any strenuous activity, let alone the full exertion of her mental energy field. Suddenly, everything went black, and she could no longer hold back, spitting out a mouthful of blood. She staggered and leaned against a railing, barely managing to stay upright.

At the same time, her disguise could no longer be maintained, and her appearance and body began to slowly change. In the blink of an eye, she transformed from Xia Zhen's appearance and body into that of another young girl.

Just as Ling Yun was about to unleash his telekinetic powers to deliver the final blow to the enemy, he suddenly saw the girl reveal her true form and was immediately taken aback. This girl was none other than the ordinary girl who had trapped him in the barrier.

"It's you?" Ling Yun asked in surprise. He suddenly remembered that he had seen this ordinary-looking girl from afar on the first day of school, but he hadn't paid attention because of Zhou Ping's harassment. He never expected her to be a superhuman, and it seemed that this ordinary-looking girl was also a freshman classmate of his.

This afternoon, the ordinary-looking girl secretly followed him and attempted to hypnotize and control him using psychic techniques. Fortunately, Ling Yun timely projected his mental field into Yu Xiujie's barrier, thus escaping unscathed. He didn't know this girl at all and didn't understand why she was so interested in him, following him twice in one day, and even going so far as to impersonate Xia Zhen to extract information. Ling Yun's mind was immediately filled with countless questions.

Chapter Thirty-Nine: Clothes Hook

The ordinary-looking girl caught her breath for a moment, then gently wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth: "It's not surprising that you broke through the barrier I set up. I want to know how you escaped my mental control?"

“I can’t tell you that.” Ling Yun shook his head, then countered, “I don’t know you, so why are you following me and trying to control me?”

The ordinary girl remained silent for a long time before saying, "I'm sorry, I can't tell you either. If you feel that I'm hostile towards you, you can kill me."

"Where is Xia Zhen? What did you do to her?" Ling Yun asked with some concern. This ordinary-looking girl didn't seem to have much offensive power; in the less than ten minutes they had fought, Ling Yun hadn't even seen her retaliate once. But her mind control was indeed terrifying. Ling Yun was confident in his ability to maintain and control his mental field. However, in a moment of carelessness, he had almost fallen victim to the ordinary girl's magic. Although Xia Zhen was stronger than Ling Yun, she had her limits; if he was careless, he could easily be controlled by this ordinary girl.

The ordinary-looking girl suddenly let out a cold laugh: "What a sentimental fool, still thinking about your little lover. If I told you I had already killed her, would you kill me to avenge her?"

"You killed Xia Zhen?" Ling Yun was taken aback, but then shook his head: "Impossible. This is a school campus. Even if you are an assassin, you have to consider the impact. As long as you hand over Xia Zhen, I will not make things difficult for you. However, please do not follow me again. I will not kill you, and I have no interest in your secrets. I just want to live an undisturbed life."

"Why are you so concerned about her? Who is she to you?" the ordinary-looking girl asked coldly.

"Friend, is that alright?" Ling Yun replied somewhat helplessly. This girl kept questioning him about his relationship with Xia Zhen, and he didn't know what she meant by it.

"Friends?" The ordinary-looking girl seemed somewhat surprised, repeating to herself before letting out a deep sigh. "I have no friends, not a single one. There's no one in this world I can trust." Her tone was filled with vulnerability and loneliness.

Ling Yun remained silent, unsure of what to say. Even though this ordinary girl was trying to turn him into a mental puppet, Ling Yun found it difficult to feel much hatred towards her. Everyone has their own story, but not everyone has curiosity. Aside from things that truly interest him, Ling Yun was actually quite indifferent to everything else.

“Your girlfriend is safe. I didn’t control her. I just hypnotized her and slightly altered her memories of today. Then I saw your text messages on her phone, so I pretended to be her and came to find you. She’s already back in her dorm resting.” The ordinary girl said slowly. “If you don’t believe me, you can call her phone now and try again. Actually, I have no ill intentions towards you. It’s just that you are a very special ability user, and I’m very curious about your background.”

"Wait a minute." Ling Yun felt a weight lifted from his heart. An ordinary girl had no reason to lie to him, but just to be on the safe side, Ling Yun still dialed Xia Zhen's number. After a few long rings, Xia Zhen's somewhat languid voice finally came from the other end of the line: "Ling Yun, why are you calling so late?"

"It's nothing, I just wanted to ask what you're up to. I was thinking of asking you out for coffee today." Ling Yun felt relieved; Xia Zhen was indeed alright.

"Oh, hehe." The girl laughed happily on the phone. "Why didn't you say so earlier? If you had, I would have come out earlier. I don't know why, but after I went downstairs today, my head became very dizzy. I vaguely remember some things, but I just can't remember them. I've been resting in my dormitory with my eyes closed since this afternoon."

"Just get some rest." Now that he knew Xia Zhen was alright, Ling Yun stopped worrying. He gave her a few simple instructions and then hung up the phone.

"Can you trust me now?" the ordinary-looking girl said calmly.

"Yes, thank you for showing mercy to my friend." Ling Yun nodded. "I've already told you about my background, but you just didn't believe me. I have no reason to lie."

"You're really a superhuman with acquired abilities?" The ordinary girl finally showed an expression of utter surprise.

"Why is it impossible?" Ling Yun suddenly felt that the question was idiotic. Why can't a superhuman be acquired? So far, it seems that apart from Yu Xiujie, including Xia Tian and Xia Zhen, everyone finds his acquired mutation unbelievable.

"Maybe I'm wrong. The world is so big, nothing is impossible." The ordinary girl thought for a while, and suddenly a look of realization appeared on her face. "Maybe that's why you..." She stopped mid-sentence.
