Chapter 4

Jiang Lai called You Yi; she desperately needed someone to vent to. In her more than twenty years of life, this was the first time she had ever seen someone as shameless as Lin Xi—even TV dramas wouldn't dare portray someone like that.

Yu Yi was playing billiards when he heard about this and dropped his cue stick in shock.

"No way? Has that woman gone mad?"

Jiang Lai pinched the bridge of her nose: "I've known her for at least ten years. I always firmly believed that she was a sweet and lovely girl, but today I realized I was wrong. She really is crazy."

A crisp clinking sound came from the other end of the phone, followed by You Yi's sigh: "It's really scary that you dated someone like her for five years. Now you've broken it off completely?"

"Yes, it's completely cut off."

You seem to be in a bad mood.

Jiang Lai chuckled: "You're heartbroken, how can you be in a good mood?"

Yu Yi put down his golf club, said a few words to his friend, and then went to a quiet spot: "How about this, I'll take you out tonight to relax."

Where to?

"Of course it's a paradise for lesbians."

After hanging up the phone, Jiang Lai's forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat. She felt uncomfortable thinking about how Lin Xi had hugged her that morning, so she took a shower and put on makeup afterward.

They say the best way to forget someone is to indulge yourself, so tonight is a chance to do just that.

She stared blankly at the mirror for a long time, as if she could see the image of her and Lin Xi laughing and talking happily in this room. At that time, she vowed to give Lin Xi a home. She didn't care about cyberbullying; she only cared about Lin Xi.

Before she knew it, her eyes were blurry with tears. She sniffed and finished applying her makeup with tears in her eyes.

Jiang Lai didn't want to be a star; she wanted to be an actress. So she didn't shy away from her sexual orientation. Whether walking down the street or anywhere else, she would openly hold Lin Xi's hand.

But now there's no going back. How she wished she had never stepped into that mall that day.

That evening, You Yi picked her up in his car. From the moment she got in until she fastened her seatbelt, she didn't smile once. Normally, she would have had a lot to say to You Yi.

You Yi noticed her unusual behavior and comforted her, "Lai Lai, do you know that you have the look of a playboy? I always thought you were the kind of person who could flirt with a thousand women without getting attached to them. I never thought you would be so dejected one day."

Jiang Lai rolled her eyes at her: "A person's appearance doesn't prove anything."

You Yi pointed to the back seat and said, "Look, this is a belated birthday present for you."

Jiang Lai turned her head and saw a leather bag on the back seat. She reached over, picked it up, and asked as she opened it, "What's this all about? Why are you being so mysterious?"

You Yi focused on driving and didn't look at her: "Why don't you open it and see?"

Upon opening the brown leather bag, Jiang Lai found only a stack of papers stapled together. Her breath caught in her throat; she knew all too well what it was.

After carefully examining it, Jiang Lai beamed with delight: "You Yi! Where did you get this! It's Director Yu's new movie, 'The Isolated Island'!"

Director Yu is a famous director in the film industry. Although he is young, his films are always among the top three at the box office. Moreover, every film is a masterpiece and has won the Best Film Award many times. Jiang Lai had heard her mother mention Director Yu before. He is young and promising.

Jiang Lai had long wanted to audition for Director Yu's movie, but she couldn't get the script because of her lack of connections. She also didn't want her mother to ask for help, so she never had the chance. She never expected that You Yi could get it.

You Yi raised an eyebrow unconsciously: "I was planning to give it to you yesterday, but I forgot about it because I ran into that woman. I didn't have a chance to go to the company party tonight, so it's not too late to give it to you now, right?"

Jiang Lai: "Is this the power of capital?"

You Yi's face darkened: "What good thing is it that you can't hear it? My dad is a sponsor, getting an audition spot for the second female lead is a piece of cake for him. But even though it's basically decided beforehand, you still have to work hard."

Jiang Lai smiled and carefully flipped through the script: "Don't worry! I'm number one in acting class."

You Yi certainly believed in Jiang Lai, especially when she stood in front of the camera; she was perfect, beyond words.

If it weren't for the need to inherit the family business, You Yi would definitely have debuted with Jiang Lai.

Jiang Lai carefully put away the script, holding it in her arms like a treasure. After signing the contract with the company, she only left the HR's WeChat contact, and they hadn't assigned her an agent yet. So Jiang Lai didn't know who to talk to about the script. After thinking about it, she decided that she could only go to the company in person tomorrow.

Seeing Jiang Lai smile, You Yi finally felt relieved: "Jiang Lai, wouldn't it have been so much better if you had broken up with her and been with me back then?"

You Yi had ulterior motives towards Jiang Lai ever since they met in their freshman year, but she couldn't accept her. In the end, they became good friends. However, You Yi was satisfied with their current relationship. After all, Jiang Lai's world used to consist only of her and Lin Xi. After Lin Xi left, she was all alone. She didn't mind waiting for Jiang Lai to accept her.

Someone as devoted as Jiang Lai must need a long time to get over the heartbreak of a breakup.

The two had a simple meal in front of the bar, because Jiang Lai didn't like drinking on an empty stomach.

Les bar has a great atmosphere and few men, and those few men are mostly women who come out with their girlfriends.

The music was very upbeat, and some people were swaying their bodies to the music.

You Yi specially found a relatively secluded spot to take care of Jiang Lai. There were already people waiting there, all familiar faces. Jiang Lai recognized them but couldn't recall their names; they were You Yi's friends.

A short-haired girl was the first to spot You Yi and waved at her: "You, You Yi, you organized this party yourself and then you're late? That's really not fair. It's not too much to punish yourself with a drink, is it?"

You Yi generously accepted the wine glass and drank it all in one gulp: "This is my friend, Jiang Lai."

Short-haired girl: "I know her, Jiang Lai. I've met her once before."

Jiang Lai nodded awkwardly: "Hello."

After they were seated, the short-haired girl suggested playing dice. Jiang Lai wasn't very good at it, so she offered to watch from the side. You Yi asked her to be on his team, and when You Yi lost, Jiang Lai drank.

After several rounds, You Yi had lost quite a few, and Jiang Lai, who prided herself on her good drinking capacity, was now feeling a bit flushed.

She looked at You Yi reproachfully: "Did you do that on purpose?"

You Yi shrugged: "I'm not as skilled as others."

Jiang Lai rolled her eyes at her and stood up: "I'm going to the restroom."

One person joked, "Going to the restroom is fine, but don't tell me you can't drink the piss and are trying to sneak away."

Jiang Lai frowned, somewhat displeased, but You Yi calmed her down by saying, "Even drinking can't shut you up!"

Jiang Lai hadn't drunk much, but she felt a bit stuffy there and wanted to go to the bathroom for some fresh air. Along the way, she was stopped by several men who tried to strike up a conversation with her.

Every time a short-haired t tries to chat her up, she extends her long, slender fingers and says, "Excuse me, I'm a 'macho' 1."

The women who tried to chat her up all ran away sheepishly after hearing this, muttering, "Damn it, I ran into a fellow 'professor'."

At the entrance to the restroom, a woman was swaying and leaning against the wall as she walked towards the restroom. She only glanced at her; she had a good figure, but she didn't care and simply walked past the woman.

She washed her hands and then hid in the bathroom to browse Weibo for a while. She switched to a secondary account and went into her own super topic. She had very few fans, but even though Jiang Lai doesn't have any works now and isn't active in the public eye, these people are still there. Her fansite admin edits her videos every day, but the number of likes is pitifully small.

Jiang Lai suddenly felt a little guilty and liked the video posted by the fan site admin.

The video is from a period drama she acted in during her junior year of college. She played a minor bodyguard to the female lead. I don't know how the fan site admin edited it, but it looks like she was the female lead.

She looked at herself for a while and realized she had stayed a bit too long. She looked at the person in the mirror; the blush on her face hadn't faded, and she was still a little dizzy. It seemed she had really drunk too much. She decided to run away while she was still conscious, so as not to do anything that would leave a bad stain on her reputation while she was drunk.

Just as she was about to leave, she bumped into a woman. Jiang Lai was lucky; she only stumbled a few times, while the woman fell to the ground.

Jiang Lai came to her senses and was about to apologize when the woman started sobbing. She looked extremely aggrieved, and her shoulders were shaking uncontrollably.

Jiang Lai was stunned; she hadn't expected that her bump would make someone cry.

"Um...Miss, I'm sorry, I didn't see you just now."

I really didn't see him. He came in leaning against the wall, and the two of them turned the corner at almost the same time. It would be strange if I could see him.

The woman looked up, brushing the long hair that was plastered on her face. Jiang Lai stared at her face for a long time, then rubbed her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things because she was drunk. "Oh my god! It really is you... Teacher Lin, how did you get so drunk? No... this is diarrhea!"

Lin Zhi kept sobbing and couldn't reply. Jiang Lai helped her up first, then took out a tissue from her pocket and wiped away her tears.

"Your makeup is all ruined. How much did you drink?"

Lin Zhi nestled in her arms, trembling as she stretched out five fingers.

Jiang Lai: "Five cups?"

Lin Zhi shook her head: "I don't remember..."

Lin Zhi is someone who often has social engagements, so she must have a high alcohol tolerance. If she's this drunk, it's likely that the alcohol she drank was mixed with a high concentration of spirits.

Where is your friend? I'll take you there.

Lin Zhi swayed unsteadily, unable to find a place, and finally burst into tears again, feeling wronged.

Jiang Lai had no choice but to help her outside to get some fresh air.

The summer night breeze swept over her, and Lin Zhi's drunkenness subsided slightly. She became much calmer and, at least, stopped crying.

"I...I feel like I've seen you somewhere before."

Jiang Lai chuckled, squatted down and said patiently, "Of course you've seen me before. I'm your employee, although you haven't assigned me an agent yet."

Lin Zhi's face was flushed. She looked up at Jiang Lai with her eyes half-closed, her little mouth pouting higher than the sky: "Manager! I'm your manager... I... hiccup, I'll be your manager!"

Although she knew she was talking nonsense while drunk, Jiang Lai still nodded: "Okay, the big boss must keep his word."

After waiting for a long time, Lin Zhi's friends still hadn't come to find her, so they must all be drunk and unconscious like Lin Zhi.

The phone rang; it was You Yi calling. She only answered the call for five minutes, and when she turned around again, Lin Zhi was crying again. No one cried so pitifully that Jiang Lai's heart ached.

She crouched down beside Lin Zhi and heard her murmur, "Why...why am I frigid?"

Jiang Lai was taken aback, remembering Lin Xi's words, which were the same words Lin Xi had said to her.

She handed her a tissue, intending to offer to take her home, but instead blurted out, "Let's sleep together."

Jiang Lai: I misspoke, do you believe me?

Lin Zhi: ...

Chapter 5

If God could give her another chance, Jiang Lai would definitely take back what she just said. It's all thanks to You Yi. If You Yi hadn't been sending her those kinds of videos lately, she wouldn't have said the wrong thing.

Whether Lin Zhi was startled or hadn't heard her clearly, she stared blankly at her, her eyes blinking like stars. Jiang Lai felt guilty and didn't dare to look into her eyes, so she shifted her gaze to the mole under Lin Zhi's lip.
