schlechte Samen - Kapitel 10
Needless to say, this is a real attempt to settle scores later.
She also clearly saw Jiang Boyu hesitating between going left or right.
Jiang Boyu didn't move, but she took the initiative to come over.
“You…” Jiang Boyu was a little stunned.
"It was my fault, I'm really sorry!" Wang Danyang even had a faint smile on her face, whether genuine or not.
Jiang Boyu turned his head away without saying a word. Being face-to-face like this made him feel very awkward, especially at the dormitory entrance. Passersby would give them both a certain look.
Wang Danyang sighed. "The responsibility lies entirely with me. I hope you stay. I think it's better to say it in person, since you weren't in the dorm when I called. So I'm waiting for you here."
"I'll be there tomorrow, don't worry," Jiang Boyu said casually. Then he added, "If there's nothing else, I'll head up now. Goodbye!"
"Still..." Wang Danyang was about to say something when he had already taken two steps away and didn't turn back.
The second day of training was uneventful. Jiang Boyu was meticulous and serious. Wang Danyang also reverted to his role as a key player. But everyone seemed to be cautiously avoiding something. During the break, Jiang Boyu went to the side to drink water alone, not speaking to anyone. His face was cold.
When they gathered, Jiang Boyu called roll and found that He Jihong was not there.
Qian Xiaoxia said her track and field team was out for training and she couldn't come. Jiang Boyu said "oh," but felt a sense of loss—since it was a leave request, he didn't say much. Friday arrived, and He Jihong still hadn't shown up. Jiang Boyu found it strange. After all, He Jihong was a key striker; her presence or absence made a world of difference. And Qian Xiaoxia's reason was still that she had something to do and needed to take leave.
After the first round of practice, Jiang Boyu routinely gave everyone a ten-minute break. Wang Danyang called him aside and said she had something to tell him. As she walked to the edge of the track, Wang Danyang whispered, "He Jihong will no longer participate in training. We'll use a substitute striker for now, and then find another one."
Jiang Boyu's eyes widened as he asked, "Why? She's a key player!"
“Junior! You know how busy she is—she has to tutor, train, and work. Besides, playing football is exhausting. We're all completely worn out after training every day. And she can't rest so early. So, we arranged for a replacement.”
Jiang Boyu suddenly became angry. His voice rose. "Then why didn't you tell me?"
Wang Danyang stared at him for a full three seconds. Then she said, "Isn't this exactly what I'm telling you?"
Jiang Boyu said, "You changed people without my consent? How am I supposed to cooperate with you?!"
Wang Danyang said in a calm and unhurried tone, "It's not that I'm replacing her, it's a special circumstance. It was also her own decision. I'm just informing you now."
"Her own opinion? At least she should have informed everyone beforehand! Just left without a word? And then we have to scramble to find a replacement? Are you preparing for a battle or playing a game?"
Jiang Boyu became increasingly anxious as he spoke, his voice growing louder and his face turning bright red. Team members not far from them all looked up at them.
"You?! How can you be so unreasonable? Isn't this a special circumstance? How many players have you replaced, Jiang Boyu? Now that one has left, do you have to get so angry?!"
"I changed the players—yes! Look at who these players are! The group stage starts next Wednesday, and your key players are nowhere to be seen! This isn't about whether I'm angry or not; if you continue like this, you're courting disaster!"
Jiang Boyu practically roared out the last few words, "bringing about his own destruction."
"Alright, alright... We can discuss any objections later. Let's start training. There are over a dozen people waiting!" Wang Danyang seemed much calmer today.
Jiang Boyu glared at her fiercely, shook her off, and strode towards the court.
The moonlight was cold and clear. It was exactly 11 p.m. Beijing time.
The lights in the teaching buildings gradually went out. Students who had been studying for evening self-study dispersed one after another. Once the last bit of noise subsided, the entire teaching area of the medical university was completely deserted.
The Department of Basic Medical Sciences building stood silent under the moonlight. A short while later, two dark shadows on the ground slowly drifted towards the building.
It was already the dead of winter in December, and the two dark figures on the ground were shivering.
The dark figure moved through the garden, leaped over the drainage ditch, and finally stopped under the south-facing windows of the anatomy teaching and research room.
Then, silently, two trembling hands reached out to the window.
The old wooden window creaked sharply as it was pushed open—clearly startling the dark figure, who remained huddled motionless under the waist-high windowsill for a long time. Then it pushed it twice more. Then it stopped and waited.
Two bright beams of light swept across the room, then disappeared into the distance—it was the school's security patrol.
Soon the wind picked up, and the night wind lashed against the bare branches, making a crackling sound.
The dark figure had already nimbly leaped into the anatomy classroom at the far west end. A moment later, the window was closed again from the inside.
A night bird suddenly darted up from a tree and let out two strange cries. Then everything returned to calm.
During a systemic anatomy practicum class in mid-December, Zheng Dazhi announced that there would be a specimen exam, which would account for 20% of the final exam grade. The exam would cover the identification and recognition of specimens from the osteology and musculoskeletal sections of the musculoskeletal system, which had already been covered in class.
This was the first exam Yan Hao and his classmates had faced since entering university. It was clear everyone was taking it seriously—significantly more people were attending evening self-study sessions, and many were even burning the midnight oil in their dorms—after all, nobody wanted to fail miserably in anatomy, a subject with a retake fee of up to a thousand yuan.
There are only three days left until the exam. In dormitory 406, only Shen Zihan is living a leisurely life—even Yan Hao spends more time studying than him. Although Shen Zihan goes to study hall in the evenings, he spends most of his time engrossed in the recently popular bubblegum popping game online, playing it every day with great enthusiasm.
The alien asked him, "Aren't you afraid of being locked up?" Shen Zihan smiled mysteriously and said, "I'm lucky. Look at those silly girls in our class, what's the use of just cramming into books? This is a specimen exam, the key is to be able to identify things. No matter how much theory you memorize, it's useless if you can't apply it!"
The next morning. After finishing the last two periods of "Histology and Embryology," Shen Zihan stopped Yan Hao, who was about to leave the lecture hall. He put his arm around Yan Hao's shoulder and said, "Haozi, lunch is on me. I need to discuss something with you."
Yan Hao looked at him suspiciously and said, "Big Fool, is your nervous system short-circuiting today? Or is this some kind of trap that's not going to end well?"
Shen Zihan said, "Look at what your brother said. Which cafeteria do you want to eat at? You can choose!"
Yan Hao thought for a moment with his eyes half-closed and said, "Let's go to the third canteen... They're having a special on Daokou crispy chicken today. But we agreed on one chicken per person."
Without saying a word, Shen Zihan grabbed Yan Hao and left, still wearing a mysterious smile.
By the time Shen Zihan squeezed out of the bustling crowd, Yan Hao had been sitting alone in the most secluded window seat in the cafeteria for twenty minutes.
On Shen Zihan's tray were two crispy chickens, a serving of vegetables, and two large glasses of cola. Before even sitting down, he started yelling, "They're all like weasels, even the girls' eyes are practically glowing green. Ugh, I finally managed to grab two. Didn't you see those boys shouting like crazy, 'This chicken is mine! Give me the chicken! Give me the chicken!' Hehe, what does 'chicken' even mean now? What kind of talk is that?!" As Shen Zihan spoke, he frowned and widened his eyes, mimicking the gestures—he was a natural comedian; even the most ordinary words, when spoken by him and accompanied by exaggerated expressions, were guaranteed to make you laugh for three minutes.
Yan Hao almost spat out his cola before he even got a taste of the chicken.
Shen Zihan rubbed his hands together and said, "Let's eat! Let's have some fun with our mouths first."
As Yan Hao tore the chicken apart with his hands, he said, "Hurry up and show me the cover behind you! You're beholden to someone who feeds you. Don't let me lose my stance again. You'll sell me out and I'll still be counting the money for you."
Shen Zihan glanced around. He lowered his voice and said, "Do you have a good grasp of this exam?"
Yan Hao shook his head and said, "It's uncertain! I can handle chicken bones and meat, but I'm not very interested in human bones and flesh."
Shen Zihan said, "I called you here to discuss this matter. If we really have to rebuild the entire school, we won't be in the mood for the New Year this year. I think you read books like a little monk chanting scriptures—all talk and no action."
Yan Hao rolled his eyes at him and said, "How can you be any better than me? If you can't control me, can you at least steal the questions?"
Shen Zihan almost beamed with joy. He glanced at Yan Hao and said, "Sichuan kids are smart. You guessed right!"
Yan Hao took a big gulp of cola and said, "It's a specimen exam—bro! There's no exam paper."
Shen Zihan waved a chicken leg in front of Yan Hao and said, "Isn't this specimen the exam paper? I asked Wang Yanyan, and he said the specimen exam is like this: you draw lots in groups, and then you're assigned to several classrooms. The things are on the table. You just look at the specimens and write down your results on paper. There are thirty people going in at a time, five or six people per classroom. You tell me—if we look at everything beforehand and understand it, how can we not be confident about the exam?"
Yan Hao was stunned for a moment. After hesitating for a long time, he said, "So you've planned all this all along! You mean...we'll sneak in before the exam?"
“That’s right, why don’t we talk to you? The two of us can keep each other company. That place is eerie and creepy. We won’t be afraid if there are more people. But the people have to be reliable.” Shen Zihan looked at Yan Hao expectantly.
Yan Hao put down the chicken in his hand, sighed deeply, and said, "I never thought I, Yan Hao, would have a day when I would steal chickens and do shady things. Have you forgotten the third ironclad rule that Wang Yanyan mentioned? As for the rest... I'm not afraid."
Shen Zihan said, "That's all nonsense, it's not that scary! The teachers in the anatomy department are all healthy and happy, they would stay if it were haunted. Besides, it's just the two of us going. My mom said that only ghosts are afraid of people, people are never afraid of ghosts. How could two grown men be scared?"
Yan Hao rolled his eyes at him and said, "You're always right. Fine, I'll eat your chicken and then go with you."
The day before the exam, the two guessed that the exam room must have been set up. They agreed to go after lights out at 11 p.m.
The dark figures that leaped through the window were none other than Shen Zihan and Yan Hao.
Standing on the floor of the fourth anatomy classroom, Yan Hao felt a chill run through his body. The cold moonlight streamed in through the windows, casting a dreamlike glow over the space. Several tables were already set with bone and muscle specimens for the next day's exam. In the moonlight, they appeared particularly glaring and eerie. Without thinking twice, the two began at the nearest table.
Shen Zihan took a small flashlight with him when he left. Seeing that the moonlight was sufficient, he didn't turn it on—this was also to avoid attracting more trouble from the school patrol team.
The two of them read and took notes while referring to the book. After half an hour, they finally finished reading and taking notes on all the specimens in the classroom.
Quiet, unusually quiet. The two whispered to each other and decided to check the third anatomy classroom again. Who knew which classroom they'd be assigned to? It was better to be prepared.
When they emerged from the third anatomy classroom, it was well past midnight. The night grew even darker. The lingering smell of formaldehyde filled the air. Two fluorescent lights remained on in the corridor, casting a deathly pale light on their faces.
To make the trip worthwhile, they decided to sacrifice their sleep again and continue reading! Pushing open the door to the second anatomy classroom, they were greeted by a complete human skeleton, and the two of them gasped in surprise! The skeleton was placed less than two meters from the door—and it was even swaying slightly—perhaps due to the wind!
Yan Hao's heart was pounding! Coming to his senses, he and Shen Zihan looked at each other, both feeling embarrassed. Shen Zihan whispered, "Who the hell would make such a joke, deliberately putting it in this spot? Just wait, a bunch of girls are sure to faint tomorrow."
In the second anatomy classroom, specimens of the skull and neck muscles made up a considerable proportion. The skull, from the frontal bone and occipital bone to the mandible, was complete. There were also numerous dissected and labeled specimens of facial muscles. This made this classroom far more terrifying than the two we had already seen. Yan Hao muttered, "Damn it, I'd rather work as a morgue guard than come to this place again."
Those brownish-red facial muscle specimens were all grotesquely contorted, their empty eye sockets surrounded by orbicularis oculi muscles and their gaping jaws suffocating. The skulls gleamed coldly in the moonlight. Even though you knew they were lifeless, they were, after all, once living people! Yan Hao felt a prickling sensation down his spine, as if the eyes of these specimens were constantly watching them.
There were six long tables in the classroom, and they had already looked at three of them. Just as they were about to turn to the fourth, they both heard two soft sounds coming from the corridor. It sounded like something falling, or like footsteps, but they were sure it wasn't a hallucination.
The two exchanged a tense glance. But the sound had vanished. They stood motionless for a moment, and the surroundings returned to a deathly silence.
Shen Zihan frowned and said, "It's alright, let's continue." After examining the specimens on the sixth table, they heard the same sound again, only twice. It sounded like something falling, or like someone walking by.
The two held their breath for a moment before Shen Zihan finally gently opened the door to the second anatomy classroom. The corridor outside was still dimly lit, silent and deserted.
I don't know where the sound came from.
But they had no other choice. Now that they were here, they couldn't just leave so easily.
The two of them, one after the other, tiptoed and pushed open the door to the first anatomy classroom.
This classroom was closest to the anatomy lab entrance, and the specimens here were clearly not as horrifying as those in the second anatomy lab. Yan Hao breathed a soft sigh of relief. Almost done, almost done!
Just like before, after examining the specimens on the third table, they heard another strange sound. This time, it sounded like footsteps, seemingly coming from the far end of the corridor. And at the end of the corridor was the small courtyard used for burning corpses and discarded specimens. Thinking of this, Yan Hao felt a chill run down his spine.
"Is...someone there?" Yan Hao said in a low voice. He tried to make his voice sound relaxed and calm.
"Don't talk nonsense, it was probably just someone walking by on the street outside." Shen Zihan's voice clearly betrayed his unease.
So the two continued.
Just as they finished examining the specimens on the sixth table, that strange sound appeared again. This time, it seemed closer, and more like footsteps. But there were only two footsteps, and then silence returned.
Yan Hao was certain this time that the sound definitely didn't come from the street outside!
The two were frozen in shock when another creaking sound came, like a door or window being opened. The sound was so chilling it made them shiver.
"It's nothing, the wind just pushed one of the windows open." Shen Zihan's lowered voice sounded more like he was comforting himself than comforting Yan Hao.
The two exchanged a glance, and Yan Hao shook his head, saying, "Big Fool, let's hurry up and go!"
Two dark figures emerged again from the easternmost window on the first floor of the Basic Medical Sciences building.
The moonlight was cold. The wind rattled and banged against some of the windows upstairs.
"Listen, I told you it's the wind." Shen Zihan's voice sounded a little more confident. Yan Hao hadn't uttered a sound the whole way; it was past two o'clock, and he was so sleepy his eyelids were drooping.
When the two returned to the dormitory, it was already filled with the sound of snoring.
Yan Hao didn't even wash his feet before collapsing into bed.
Yan Hao found himself standing alone again before the unfathomable corridor leading to the anatomy department. The corridor was deserted, save for the low, melancholic voice that echoed, "Come e e here..." He walked and walked, step by step, but never reached the end. The calls of "come here" grew closer and closer, vibrating his eardrums. With each step, the voice became clearer, until slowly, the calls transformed into the sound of breaths whispering in his ear, like someone muttering something.
"No, it's not breath, it's definitely not breath," Yan Hao suddenly thought.
He jolted awake, sitting bolt upright in bed, his back soaked with sweat. Shen Zihan, Liao Guangzhi, and Li Yuanbin were all sound asleep. Yan Hao checked his watch; it wasn't even four o'clock yet. That meant he'd only slept for an hour, yet had such a vivid dream.
Yan Hao sat on the bed, still somewhat dazed. The dream he'd just had was still vivid in his mind. He murmured, "It wasn't breathing, it wasn't breathing." He felt it was some kind of hint, some kind of code. Something he didn't yet understand, a mystery existing within the anatomy classroom.
