Chapter 16

Then, without hesitation, he hung up the phone call from Tang Lei.

Shao Yuzhe is such a pushover.

But I was a little touched.

"Should we wake him up? If you can't bring yourself to do it, I will." A voice sounded from behind me. I turned around and saw the doctor I had forgotten about—no, I should call him the hospital director.

"Don't make it sound like you're trying to silence someone." She glared at him.

"He's sleeping so soundly, it's hard to bear waking him. He's so exhausted. From my professional perspective, if he continues to stay awake, he'll definitely get sick," the dean whispered to me.

"I also want him to sleep a little longer, but there's nothing I can do. I have to go, I have things to do." Tang Lei is the boss after all, and I don't want Shao Yuzhe to miss work and get into trouble. After thinking about it, I decided to let Dean Ran wake him up. In case he's grumpy in the morning, I can avoid him.

"You can take a taxi."

"It's his problem, not mine, okay?" I raised my voice an octave higher; I really wanted to smash his chubby face into a steamed bun.

"Dong, you've finished changing your dressing?" Shao Yuzhe opened his eyes groggily, then buried his face in his hands and rubbed his eyes to wake himself up. "Let's go."

I was dumbfounded. The dean gave me an expression that said, "It's none of my business that you woke him up."

I continued to swear that I would never come to this hospital again.

Shao Yuzhe is a responsible person, so even though he was driving while fatigued, I still made it home alive. I originally planned to invite him to stay for dinner, but I knew he would probably have to go back to the company soon, so I persuaded him to at least stay and rest for a while before leaving.

She even personally prepared a calming tea for him.

After placing the empty teacup on the table, Shao Yuzhe picked up his briefcase, ready to throw himself back into the revolution. I sighed and watched him leave, then started calling Tang Lei.

Chapter Six

The next day when I saw Shao Yuzhe again, I was waiting for the elevator downstairs at the company.

"Good morning," I greeted him with a smile, pleased that he seemed to be in better spirits than yesterday.

"Winter, what are you doing here?" He was clearly surprised.

"I'm at work," I said matter-of-factly.

"But your leave isn't over yet."

"I love my country and can't wait to dedicate myself to the Four Modernizations," I said sincerely.

"Winter..." His voice rose at the end, and he even added two beats to it.

"The elevator has arrived." I darted and jumped into the elevator.

Actually, this approach was very unwise, because Comrade Shao Yuzhe is my superior, so he was waiting for the same elevator as me, and it was only natural for him to walk in.

“Yesterday, Mr. Tang called me and said that everything was fine with work, so after I helped you change your dressing, you can go home and rest.” He didn’t press for details, but instead changed the subject.

"That's great. When I saw you yesterday, you looked like you'd been trampled by a herd of elephants, but you're much better now." I smiled and patted his shoulder, of course understanding his roundabout approach.

The elevator stopped briefly, and a few people got on. I instinctively shrank into the corner, but Shao Yuzhe, worried that my legs would get squeezed, blocked in front of me. So, our position looked like I was being forced into the corner of the elevator by him.

“I have an extra received call and a missed call on my phone. It was from Mr. Tang when I was asleep in the hospital.” He seemed to have realized the advantage of his posture and looked at me with a smile.

"So you were sleepwalking." I continued to play dumb.

"Winter..." The last syllable rose again, lingering for a beat and a half.

"Okay, actually I just called Tang Lei to check on the progress and then finished the rest." There was no point in rambling on, so I said casually.

Although the content of this sentence reflects reality, it means that I sat in front of the computer for fourteen hours.

He didn't say anything, he just stared straight at me.

The first time I noticed his eyes were light brown, like clean river water, crystal clear.

I couldn't look away, so I tilted my head back and met his eyes.

The elevator suddenly dinged, and I turned my head to look. We had arrived.

People filed out of the elevator, seemingly unaware of us.

He remained motionless in his original posture, but his eyes held a deeper depth.

I had no choice but to continue looking up at him.

"Let's go," Shao Yuzhe said, ruffling my hair.

I suddenly realized my heart was beating very fast.

Because I almost thought he was going to kiss me.

I was startled by my own thoughts, and was so out of sorts that I was completely out of it all morning. Although I often say that I have a little crush on Shao Yuzhe, I felt completely lost when it came to actually facing him.

I'm used to living alone. Although I sometimes have expectations, I'm used to being carefree and independent. If I start to have something to care about and start to accept someone into my life, I will feel like a stranger.

Shao Yuzhe, Shao Yuzhe...

"Are you even listening to me?" Tang Lei's voice suddenly interrupted, the abrupt change leaving me a little taken aback.

"Yes, yes, you were just praising me for doing my work quickly and well yesterday." I smiled ingratiatingly, only then remembering that Tang Lei was still in my office. He had condescended to come to my office because he was considering my mobility issues.

Tang Lei sighed helplessly.

"Nuan Nuan, I was talking to you about the year-end staff event, which is scheduled for next Saturday. Everyone suggested having a dance party, and I was asking if you have any other suggestions."

“You asked for my advice,” I chuckled dryly, lifted my leg, “Look at me, I should just organize a Paralympic Games.”
