Red satin - Chapter 14
Upon hearing this, everyone agreed that there was no time to lose and they should set off immediately. There were four sets of cloth available; Qin Jin went home to get them, Lu Ziming went to the hospital to pick them up, and Tang Shishi went to the mental hospital to ask Yingqi for them. Qin Jin asked Ke Liang to accompany Tang Shishi to protect her, because Shishi had just recovered, and there were two ghosts in the ward. Her scarf hadn't been worn before, so its power wasn't great, and she didn't need anyone to accompany her.
As soon as the four of them left their homes, they got into their own cars and agreed to meet at Tang Shishi's house that evening.
Qin Jin took a taxi all the way home. It had been a long time since he'd been home. He opened the window, letting the musty, gloomy air from the room dissipate. Luckily, there weren't any plants or animals in the house; otherwise, they would probably be dead after so long. This is the main reason why it's not advisable for single people to keep pets.
Not everyone can afford to take a black cat around the world!
She put Blackie into the cat basket, took out cat food from the refrigerator, and started looking all over the house for the bag she had lost, which contained a red scarf.
The sun shone brightly through the window. She was in a good mood; she was still young, and thinking about death all the time was always distressing. If she really had to die, she might as well relax and enjoy herself now.
The bag was black, and Hei Bao had already pulled it under the bed, with only the handle sticking out. She was overjoyed and ran over to pull it out, but she couldn't budge it no matter what she did; it seemed to be stuck on something.
She pulled hard and the bag came out, but the contents were scattered all over the floor. She looked around but couldn't find the red scarf.
Strange, I clearly put it in my bag when I brought it back, so why is it gone now?
Hei Bao let out a sharp cry from behind and leaped onto the windowsill. She immediately ran to the windowsill and saw a figure slowly waving at the window from under the tree below, with her red scarf wrapped around her neck. She made up her mind that she had to get the scarf back no matter what, otherwise everything would be in vain.
Many things had happened these past few days, transforming Qin Jin into a brave woman. Her will to live outweighed her fear, and her love for her friends surpassed her own dread. She quickly grabbed Hei Bao, slammed the door shut, and ran downstairs.
There was nothing under the tree, just emptiness. She was looking around in confusion when she suddenly saw a figure waving from the window of a building in the distance, still wearing the same red scarf.
Keep following up.
Tang Shishi and Ke Liang walked silently on their way to the mental hospital. Ke Liang had heard Qin Jin mention seeing two ghosts in Yingqi's room before, and even though it was daytime, his hair stood on end. Tang Shishi, on the other hand, was very anxious because she hadn't seen her cousin in a long time.
They arrived at the mental hospital without any problems. The nurse recognized Ke Liang and winked at him. You can't blame Ke Liang; he was undeniably handsome.
Walking down the narrow corridor, strange sounds filled the air—some patients were singing, others reciting poetry. Ke Liang asked the young nurse, "Aren't you afraid?"
"What are you afraid of? They're all patients, there's nothing to be afraid of!"
They soon arrived at Yingqi's room. Looking through the window, Yingqi was lying obediently on the bed, unresponsive, like a vegetable.
Tang Shishi felt the jade bracelet on her wrist getting hot. The jade bracelet was a gift from Uncle Li to ward off evil spirits. It seemed that this ward was a bit strange.
But the two of them still mustered up their courage and went inside. Tang Shishi excitedly walked to Yingqi's bedside.
"Yingqi, Yingqi, wake up, it's me, Shishi."
Yingqi obediently opened her eyes. Her eyes were large and empty, yet seemed to understand everything. Yingqi looked at Shishi and suddenly asked softly, "Shishi, who is that woman lying behind you?"
Shishi took a few steps back, staring in horror at her back. There was nothing there. She could only look to Ke Liang for help, but Ke Liang also looked puzzled. Neither of them had seen anything.
Shishi was sweating profusely. "Yingqi, tell me, where did your red headscarf go?"
"Just put it on my head. Feel it. Isn't it soft, wet, and comfortable?"
Shishi's face was beyond pale. Although she had expected this when she entered the ward, the fear she felt when they stood there talking to Yingqi, who was lying on the bed, was still beyond what most people could bear.
Tang Shishi slapped Yingqi on both sides of the hospital bed, making a loud slap on each side. Yingqi seemed to come to her senses and only said, "Sister took it away," before falling asleep again.
Shishi left the ward, panting heavily.
Yingqi's older sister, that arrogant and wealthy woman who never looks at people with respect and is extremely mean to Yingqi, has also come to see Yingqi.
She stood outside the door and called out loudly to Ke Liang. Ke Liang ran out; although he wasn't missing any limbs, his face was ashen, indicating he had been quite frightened. She explained that the red headscarf was already with Sister Qi Ying, and they were leaving.
As soon as the two of them left the mental hospital, they saw a child wearing a red headscarf hopping past the gate. Tang Shishi felt a pang of anxiety, sensing something strange. The red headscarf seemed familiar. After a moment's thought, she realized it was Yingqi's red headscarf. The two of them took off running.
The child disappeared in a flash, and just as the two were feeling disappointed, the red-headed girl reappeared at the next street corner.
The two followed closely behind the red-turbaned child, who seemed to be intentionally leading them to a certain place.
Lu Ziming entered the hospital. He remembered that the red undergarment was soaking in the glass bottle containing the two pairs of eyes. The hospital seemed particularly deserted. Walking along the corridor, he realized that these pieces of evidence were originally meant to be kept at the police station. However, because the two pairs of eyes hadn't rotted even after being soaked in tap water, they were brought to the hospital for examination. No one dared to touch them, not even taking out the red undergarment inside.
He had been to this hospital many times, and no one had come up to question him. He just kept walking along the corridor. The elevator incident last time had made him afraid to take the elevator again.
He walked down to the basement, where there were countless specimens; the morgue was on the left. It was always eerily cold there. He twisted the handle of the specimen room door, and it opened easily. He felt strange, but didn't have time to think, and slipped inside.
A nurse pushed a corpse past the door. Through the crack in the door, I could see that the nurse was expressionless. The corpse must have been in a car accident, as it was still bleeding profusely, leaving a shocking trail of blood on the pristine white corridor.
The morgue door on the left slammed open and then closed again, the heavy soles of shoes scraping the floor as they gradually disappeared into the distance. Lu Ziming breathed a sigh of relief and began searching the room for the red undergarment. Logically, that shade of red should be easy to spot, but there were so many specimens inside—human brains, severed limbs. Normally, he might have looked at these things calmly; they were just human organs. But having experienced that horrific scene, he was terrified that the limbs might move and drag him into the pungent solution.
He finally found it; that kind of red satin is easy to spot no matter where it's placed. He gently moved the water glass, and the eyeball inside moved, its pupils instantly fixed on him.
He felt nauseous.
Suddenly, there was a noise behind me.
I turned around, but there was nothing there; the noise came from outside the door.
There was a sound in the corridor. He took out his gun and moved very quietly toward the window.
There was no one in the corridor, but the voice had moved to the morgue.
Who? What are they doing at the morgue at this hour?
With questions in mind, he tried to gently turn the doorknob to go into the morgue. Just as he was about to leave, the morgue door opened silently, not wide, and he peered through the crack.
It was an old woman; she was lying on the ground, struggling to move outwards.
The old woman was on the ground, head bowed, licking the fresh bloodstains with her tongue, but the fresh bloodstains had already disappeared without a trace.
The old woman raised her head and glanced over here. He felt a chill he had never felt before. It was the same old woman he had seen in the hallway last time.
He had only one thought—to escape. But there was only one exit, the corridor, and it was blocked. He gasped for breath inside the doorway, listening to the sound slowly approaching.
Suddenly the door was pushed open with a bang.
A figure lunged in, and he yelled, pointing a gun at the person. Luckily, he had good self-control and didn't fire, otherwise he would have killed Qin Jin. Qin Jin, panting, said, "What are you doing here?"
"And how did you get here?"
"I came here by following someone wearing a red scarf."
"Did you catch him?"
"You disappeared when I chased you to this room, but I saw you when I ran in."
Lu Ziming said with difficulty, "I've been here the whole time, there's no one here. I was just blocked by that female ghost outside the door."
"Outside the door? There was nothing in the hallway when I came here!"
Both of them were taken aback. When they tried to turn the door again, it was already locked tightly.
Shishi and Ke Liang followed closely behind the child wearing a red headscarf, only to see the child disappear into a building.
Shishi said, "Isn't this a hospital? Lanqi was sent to this hospital after her accident."
"We can't worry about that now, let's just chase them first."
"No, let's call Lu Ziming and ask him what's going on. I have a feeling something's not right here."
"Don't be afraid, I'm here, nothing will hurt you."
Shishi rolled her eyes at him, not really believing him. Instead, she stood at the hospital entrance and dialed Lu Ziming's number. "Hello, Ziming." There was no response for a long time.
Shishi called out again, "Ziming."
An old voice came from the phone: "This is the funeral home."
Shishi was taken aback. How could she have dialed the wrong number? She picked up her phone and checked the number; it was indeed Ziming's. When she dialed back, all she heard on the other end was laughter—all sorts of laughter.
Shishi was so startled that she dropped her phone. Ke Liang asked, "What's wrong?"
"Come on, something's happened inside."
The two immediately ran towards the hospital. As soon as they entered, a child wearing a red headscarf appeared at the hospital entrance and skipped and hopped in with them.
Ke Liang asked, "The hospital is so big, where are we going to find Lu Ziming!"
"The hospital is big, but where is the yin energy heaviest?"
"The morgue!"
The elevator was broken and wouldn't open, so they had to follow the signs to the stairs, which seemed endless. Although they were terrified, they didn't dare to say anything to scare each other, so they just gritted their teeth and continued down the stairs.
Qin Jin and Lu Ziming were trapped in the room, waiting quietly in the specimen room for a long time without making a sound.
The two had a thousand questions, but dared not voice them at this moment. Lu Ziming asked, "Where's Hei Bao?"
"I don't know why it suddenly jumped off my hand and ran after me, but it seems it didn't run in. Luckily it didn't run in."
"Forget it, don't think about it anymore. I'll protect you. Let's take out that red undergarment first!"
The two walked to the water glass and took a deep breath. For some reason, Lu Ziming and Qin Jin both felt extremely afraid of each other, as if the other person wasn't someone they knew, but someone else in disguise. They couldn't explain why they felt this way, but there were definitely more than two people in the space. However, as long as the other person didn't go berserk, their chances of escaping would be much greater.
Lu Ziming picked up a pair of tongs from the table, reached into the water glass, and pulled the undergarment out from the four eyeballs. He then put it in a sealed bag and carried it with him. At that moment, the two men heard a noise and froze, too afraid to move. The noise came from behind them.
They immediately slipped to the door, wanting to hear what was going on in the hallway.
This time, there was no sound in the hallway; the noise came from inside the room.
However, there was nothing in the room except for the half-corpses soaking in the preservative solution.
But the sound was coming from the large pool where the corpses were soaking.
Both of them gritted their teeth and moved forward, while the splashing sounds kept coming from the pool.
It turned out that a small gecko had somehow fallen into the solution and was desperately struggling to survive.
They breathed a sigh of relief, so relaxed they almost collapsed to the ground.
Lu Ziming said self-deprecatingly, "We're all on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Even if there were no ghosts, we'd be scared to death by ourselves."
Qin Jin laughed too; both of them felt that people became particularly timid in this environment. Of course, if someone were alone among a pile of severed hands, legs, and heads, the situation would be even worse. They helped each other to their feet and walked towards the door. Just as they helped each other to their feet, all the corpses in the solution suddenly opened their eyes.
They started banging on the door, hoping someone outside would hear their cries for help and open the iron gate.
They banged on the door and talked to ease the tension, unaware that their noise was masking the fact that a struggling gecko in the solution was being sucked into an open mouth that surfaced from below.
Many hands had already emerged from the water, and the corpses were climbing upwards.
Not far in front of the liquid corpse, on the cabinet, lay the eyeballs that had lost their red satin backdrop. The eyeballs had become ferocious, constantly sliding in the water, as if they were still alive in their sockets.
Ke Liang and Shi Shi started to pant, and finally Shi Shi complained.
"What a lousy hospital! The basement has a hundred floors! We've gone down so many floors already, how come we're still not at the end? There's not even a sign, it's so annoying!"
Ke Liang was also puzzled. At their pace and time, they still hadn't seen the basement. He guessed the hospital's basement must be located in the center of the earth.
Shishi took out a pack of chewing gum, popped one into her mouth, and gave another to Ke Liang, saying, "Let's add some energy at this time!"
Ke Liang tore off the wrapper, tossed it aside, and said, "Eating this will give you more energy?"
"How can you be so inconsiderate! Forget it, stop arguing, let's go down!"
