Spirit Case Files - Chapter 15

Chapter 15

"No...please, spare me..." A strange plea came from the pile of shards.

"No..." The red stone shattered in Fia's hand.

Gray smoke began to rise from the fragments on the ground, a sign of the monster's death. However, Dize's voice continued to echo: "...You! Don't... be too happy yet. As long as desire still exists in the hearts of humans, I will be resurrected again, and then... I will kill you all... Hahahaha..."

...

"Thanks to both of you, getting rid of this guy went surprisingly smoothly!" Fia looked at the two women with a bright smile. "Thank you so much!"

“Don’t misunderstand! This is my duty! Besides, I’ve wronged you…” Barbrenne said, then raised her head again, “However, you’d better not do anything that harms humanity, otherwise…”

“I understand! Miss Barberney, I will keep your words in mind.” Fia interrupted the priest. “Then, may I ask you to go on a date with me?”

"I'm sorry, one of the rules for priests is that you can't date vampires!"

"...Hey! Miss Barberney, is there really such a rule?"

"..."

Hearing these meaningless words, Yuan Peilin and Qinglin Anxue had already turned around and were about to leave.

Reply [35]: Episode 9 Sunrise

Binhai South Road was deserted at night. Not only were there no pedestrians, but there were also very few vehicles. Only the faint moonlight shone on the road, as if it were covered with a thin layer of silver.

A luxury sedan broke the surrounding tranquility as it drove by, its bright headlights slicing through the darkness like sharp blades. Inside were two people: a man in his thirties, impeccably dressed in a suit, his hair neatly combed, exuding an air of refinement; and a strikingly beautiful young woman with long, delicate eyelashes that framed her bright, watery eyes, her flowing hair adding a touch of mature charm.

"What's going on? Didn't you say you'd take me home? Why are you taking this road?" The girl looked out the car window in confusion and asked several questions in a row.

“It’s nothing. Although it’s a bit of a detour, it avoids the downtown area. Besides…” The man turned and stared at the girl with a strange look.

"What?" The girl instinctively leaned back, trying to avoid the unsettling gaze.

“Ms. Gu Xiangning… As your manager, I’ve been working very hard. I must have played a big part in your success as a popular movie star…”

"...So what?"

“It’s simple…” The agent looked at Gu Xiangning’s body with a wicked gaze and let out a nasty laugh, “I want some compensation…”

"Compensation? But your salary is already very high." As Gu Xiangning said this, she suddenly felt a slight tremor, and the car had already stopped on the side of the road.

While the girl was stunned, the agent suddenly pounced on her: "The reward I'm talking about is your body!"

"What...what are you going to do!?"

Just as she was starting to realize what was happening, Gu Xiangning screamed and struggled desperately. However, a young girl's strength was no match for that of an adult man. Her slender hands were easily grabbed by the manager with one hand and firmly pressed against the car window. His other hand, however, was used to forcefully pull at the girl's shirt.

Just as the agent was about to succeed, Gu Xiangning, in a moment of desperation, somehow mustered the strength to slam her still-mobile knee hard into the agent's exposed abdomen as he leaned forward.

The manager let out a groan, forced to release Gu Xiangning's hand, clutching his convulsing, hardened area. This brief moment was enough for the girl to make a move to escape. Suppressing her trembling arms, she opened the car door and jumped out.

However, Gu Xiangning hadn't run more than a few steps when she heard her manager chasing after her, cursing.

"You slut! There's nothing here. Let's see how far you can run. Just for the sake of this one time you gave me, I'll treat you well later!" As he spoke, the manager's face twisted strangely, and he let out a series of disgusting, sinister laughs.

Gu Xiangning was terrified. The vast darkness before her seemed endless, and she felt like a small boat adrift in a raging storm, overwhelmed by despair and helplessness. She kept fantasizing that someone would emerge from the darkness, someone who could save her, but this fantasy was quickly shattered by the approaching footsteps behind her. She could almost see her manager's lewd face. At that very moment…

The girl's fantasy finally came true.

...

For some reason, even though it was almost midnight, Yuan Peilin couldn't fall asleep tonight. Maybe it was because she had slept too much during the day. However, looking at the white dove sleeping soundly beside her pillow, just like during the day and at night, she dismissed that guess. Anyway, she decided to go for a walk outside. She habitually put on her school uniform and left her room.

Because of the approaching change of seasons, the temperature dropped considerably in the evening, and the boy, still not used to it, couldn't help but shiver. Since they didn't have a destination in mind, Yuan Peilin decided to stroll along the nearby Binhai South Road, wandering aimlessly in one direction. Actually, this oddly-minded boy had always considered walking a good way to lift his spirits; whether it actually worked or not, only he knew.

Because this highway is located in the suburbs of the city and is not a main thoroughfare, it is almost deserted at night. Meanwhile, Yuan Peilin was wondering: in such darkness, wouldn't some strange monsters be more likely to appear?

Suddenly, hurried footsteps sounded ahead, accompanied by soft panting. Just as Yuan Peilin smugly thought his guess had come true, he discovered that it was a young girl running towards him.

The girl's hair and clothes were disheveled, and her pretty face was filled with extreme terror. The next moment, she saw the boy standing in front of her, and her previously dull eyes suddenly shone with a spark of hope.

Reply [36]: Almost immediately following the girl's footsteps, another man appeared from the darkness. His face clearly read, "I'm a hooligan!" So, even if Yuan Peilin was an idiot, he could roughly guess what was going on.

Gu Xiangning barely managed to reach the boy before collapsing to the ground, trembling with fear and exhaustion. Yuan Peilin immediately knelt down and helped her up.

"...Save me, please save me..." Gu Xiangning gripped Yuan Peilin's arm tightly, her voice choked with sobs.

"I understand, don't worry." Yuan Peilin gave the frightened girl a reassuring smile and pulled her behind him.

At this moment, the agent was already standing opposite Yuan Peilin. His expression showed only a slight surprise before he reverted to his villainous nature.

"Hehehe, didn't expect there to still be someone here... What, trying to be a hero and save the damsel in distress? Naive kid..."

A hint of disdain flashed in Yuan Peilin's eyes: "Sometimes, humans are uglier than monsters..."

"What are you saying!?" The manager clearly didn't understand the boy's words and could only be sure that they weren't nice to him.

"It's nothing, please leave here immediately..."

Looking at the calm expression on the boy's face, the manager felt somewhat embarrassed. His hands clenched together, making a cracking sound, and he said fiercely, "Do you know the consequences of interfering with me? I was a third-degree black belt in karate back in college..."

"So what?" Yuan Peilin's lips curled up slightly, forming a cold smile.

"Prepare to die!"

The agent raised his arm and charged towards the seemingly frail boy, shouting, and he certainly had a commanding presence. Gu Xiangning closed her eyes in worry, unable to bear watching what was about to happen, and kept praying for a miracle.

A muffled groan was heard, and silence returned. Gu Xiangning slowly opened her eyes and found the young man in front of her standing unharmed. Beside him, her manager's large body lay slumped on the ground like mud, motionless.

"Don't worry, he just fainted," Yuan Peilin said with a smile as he turned around.

Gu Xiangning's vision blurred, and she quickly bowed slightly, saying, "Thank you so much..."

“No need, anyone would do the same.” Yuan Peilin paused for a moment. “Why did this happen to you?”

"..."

"...Ah, if you don't want to talk about it, that's fine. I was just asking casually."
