The Spirit Case Files
Chapter 1, Episode 1: It Has Nothing to Do With Me
The sea in summer is bustling and full of vibrant energy. Standing on the rocks with the sea breeze, letting the splashing water from the crashing waves wash over you, you can truly feel its overwhelming power.
Standing there was a boy of sixteen or seventeen, his face expressionless, more like a statue. After a long while, he let out a long breath and stretched his arms towards the sky, as if responding to the roar of the sea.
"Choosing this place as the starting point of my life is the most fitting choice."
Yuan Peilin's voice carried a hint of excitement, along with a sense of relief. A snow-white bird—no, it should be called a pigeon—perched on his shoulder. Of course, ordinary white pigeons don't talk, at least not in human language.
"Pei Lin, aren't you going to find your father?"
Yuan Peilin paused for a moment, then chuckled, more like a mockery: "Even if you find someone you've never met before, it won't lead to anything..."
"You must hate him. He abandoned you and your child, and we don't know where he went..." The pigeon's snow-white feathers were ruffled by the sea breeze.
“You know what? Crow…” Yuan Peilin picked up a pebble from the reef and threw it forcefully into the sea. The pebble flew far away in an arc. “It doesn’t matter at all. My mother wanted me to live a peaceful life, so his departure is a good thing…”
After a barely audible sound, a tiny splash appeared on the sea surface, creating a few ripples before disappearing again into the ebb and flow of the waves.
"A peaceful life..." the crow murmured. Yuan Peilin turned around and led it away from the reef.
"I'm hungry, let's go back to the hotel for dinner..."
Although it's just a small seaside town, it's bustling with activity during peak tourist season. A boy with a white dove perched on his shoulder swaggering down the street naturally attracted the attention of many tourists. Some children, in particular, were captivated and clamored to their parents for one.
Fortunately, the boy noticed this in time and patted the white dove's little head: "Hey, crow, don't go to crowded places if you don't have to."
“It’s okay, I don’t mind being seen by others.”
“I mind…”
The crow flapped its wings and muttered in dissatisfaction, "Fine, fine, what a troublesome fellow!"
The white dove's body began to undergo a strange transformation; its pure white feathers emitted a pale yellow light, then suddenly shrank into a ball of light the size of a marble, tracing a golden trajectory before striking Yuan Peilin's right wrist and disappearing. Of course, this all happened in an instant.
Yuan Peilin raised his wrist, revealing that he was wearing something that looked like a bracelet, golden in color, with peculiar symbols engraved on it.
"Just stay inside quietly, you're only drinking water anyway." When Yuan Peilin looked up, he realized that everyone around him was staring at him with surprise. He shrugged helplessly, but that only made him more noticeable.
He hurried back to his hotel and entered the restaurant. The environment was pleasant and spacious, with soft music playing in the background. Yuan Peilin found an empty seat, ordered a quick meal from the waiter, and began to wait idly.
A few soft laughs came from the next table. Yuan Peilin turned to look and saw three girls who looked like high school students talking while eating. "Women's bad habit," Yuan Peilin sighed in boredom. He tried not to listen, but their words still forced their way into his ears.
"I told you, this is a great place to travel."
"It's alright, it's just that my skin is all tanned."
"It will change back later," the girl suddenly lowered her voice. "I just heard the guards here say that several people have gone missing in the last couple of days..."
"Huh? Didn't you find it?"
"No, but... human remains were found in the garbage dump..."
"What? You must be talking nonsense, that's terrifying..."
"It's true..."
"..."
"Could it be a man-eating monster?" Yuan Peilin thought to himself as the food was served, which made him feel even more nauseous.
"This is really not a good omen..."

Reply [2]: Unlike the daytime, the sea breeze at night is extremely refreshing. Lin Yong lazily lay on the soft sand, gazing at the starry sky. Compared to the city, the starry sky by the sea was very clear, seemingly close at hand, giving one a sense of being in a dream. He couldn't help but think of his mother, who had gone to heaven, perhaps looking down on him like a star. Really, it seems like I've gotten sand in my eye again…
The crow seemed to sense the boy's thoughts, and it quietly perched on Yuan Peilin's chest, motionless. All that could be heard was the rhythmic roar of the sea, and occasionally, couples would stroll along the beach, embracing and whispering sweet nothings.
However, as if it were an age-old tradition, something would always appear to disrupt things when things were quiet. Despite not hearing any major noise, Yuan Peilin still stood up helplessly, and the crow jumped back onto the boy's shoulder, staring intently at a dark spot.
"What a disgusting demonic aura." Yuan Peilin straightened his disheveled hair and said with annoyance.
"They must be orcs."
As if in response to the crow's guess, a huge figure slowly emerged from the darkness, its entire body covered by bulging muscles, its "hair" so long it almost reached the ground. Most terrifying was its face, its mouth protruding outwards like a dog's, its sharp fangs covered in sticky saliva, and its triangular eyes gleaming with a greedy, blood-red light in the darkness.
Not only that, but there was also a person being carried in the thick arm. Judging from the clothing, it should be a woman. Her head was hanging down, and her face could not be seen.
"Should we save them?" Crow asked, tilting his head.
Yuan Peilin sneered, "What nonsense are you talking about? I'm just an ordinary person. What should an ordinary person do?"
"She probably screamed and ran away..."
"Uh... that's too unseemly!" The boy waved to the orc, "Please enjoy your meal, excuse me..." Without waiting for the other's reaction, he turned and walked into the town.
It seems nothing ever goes as planned. Yuan Peilin felt a slight vibration in the air behind him and darted to the side with lightning speed, the orc's ferocious beak barely grazing his body. Crow was also forced to flap its wings and fly into the air, a few white feathers swirling and drifting down.
After Yuan Peilin stopped, he looked at the orc blocking his way, then touched the tear in his coat and frowned, saying, "This is my favorite coat."
"You're a psychic, aren't you..." the orc said sinisterly. "You're really lucky. It's been a long time since I've encountered one like this. This will surely increase your demonic power even more."
Orcs are a race that evolved along a different path than humans, resulting in a wide variety of species due to their different evolutionary prototypes. Their strength and abilities far surpass those of humans, allowing them to transform into human form and infiltrate human society. They primarily feed on humans, and many unexplained disappearances are linked to them. Among humans, the only ones who can pose a threat to orcs are those with psychic abilities; however, if an orc successfully kills and consumes a psychic, it will significantly enhance its own power.
“Orc brother…” Yuan Peilin said calmly, “I have no intention of interfering with you. After all, this is the law of natu
