Chapter 40

Sensing Lingyan's displeasure, Shenyue readily withdrew.

"Sister Yan, why do I feel like you don't really like her?"

Sensing Lingyan's emotions, Gu Zhong asked in confusion.

"No, it's just a matter of habit and a lack of trust. You should be careful to maintain appropriate boundaries in your interactions."

Lingyan turned her attention back to Gu Zhong and began to give him earnest advice.

"Okay, okay! Sister Yan... I know you're always nagging as soon as you arrive."

Gu Zhong withdrew his hand, covered his ears, and widened his eyes to express his dissatisfaction.

"...Gu Xiaozhong, you're really getting more and more mischievous..."

During the rest of the filming, Ling Yan sat on the sidelines, took a script from Qian Jiu, and carefully read it, occasionally glancing up at the filming location.

Qian Jiu deliberately avoided all romantic scenes, because given Gu Zhong's current cluelessness, filming one scene might take a whole day.

However, when the two were acting together, Lingyan noticed Shen Yue's eyes and movements and found everything about him displeasing.

Isn't it supposed to be before the romance scenes? What's with all that deep affection in his eyes? Where is his hand going?

Lingyan watched the whole thing and almost wanted to rush up and yell "Cut!"

By the time Gu Zhong's scenes were completely filmed, it was already dark.

"Gu Xiaozhong, aren't you tired?"

Back in her hotel room, Lingyan placed her luggage next to the wall cabinet and looked at Gu Zhong, who had pulled out a script and was engrossed in reading it as soon as he entered. For the first time, Lingyan felt a headache coming on from someone's dedication.

"It's alright. I'll take a look at tomorrow's scenes first, so I'll have a better idea of what to expect."

Gu Zhong looked serious, appearing very dedicated to his job.

"I heard from Director Qian that the romantic scenes have been put on hold."

Seeing how passionate she was about her work, Lingyan retracted her idea of letting her get some rest that night and instead went straight to the heart of the matter.

Upon hearing Ling Yan's words, Gu Zhong lay down on the bed and covered his face with the script. A muffled voice came from below.

"Won't!"

"What?"

Lingyan was momentarily stunned by this abrupt and nonsensical remark.

"I just can't act..."

Gu sat up again, puffing out his cheeks in annoyance.

"I just can't find a point of empathy..."

"What happened to Tao Yao back then?"

Ling Yan raised an eyebrow, took off her silver-gray suit jacket and hung it on the hanger, wearing only a white shirt with the top two buttons of the collar loosely undone, revealing her smooth collarbone.

"Well... at the time, the director said that I should just maintain my usual state. A little bit of naivety would make me fit the character better, so... that doesn't count as a romantic scene."

Gu Zhong frowned, recalling the emotions he felt while filming his previous drama.

"Then... why don't you look for a time when you're in a relationship..."

She swallowed her words halfway through her sentence, clearly realizing she had said something wrong.

The matter of Ge Tan was not a pleasant memory. Furthermore, Gu Zhong's previous assertion that she didn't actually like Ge Tan much was unfounded and shouldn't be taken as a reference.

"I've never been one to practice experiential learning, but when it comes to emotions, I always feel like I can't really act them out clearly. Maybe you just have to experience it to understand."

"There's nothing we can do about it..."

Lingyan couldn't think of a feasible way to encourage Gu Zhong to date for the time being.

She will never do something like digging her own grave again.

"How about this, Gu Xiaozhong, next time you film a romantic scene, treat Shen Yue as your favorite food."

A sudden flash of inspiration struck, and the next sentence slipped out.

"???"

Gu Zhong's face was full of question marks.

"The kind you can see, but can't eat..."

Thinking of the deep love in Gu Zhong's eyes whenever he saw food, Ling Yan felt it couldn't be more fitting.

For foodies, seeing delicious food right in front of them but not being able to eat it is an absolutely desperate thing.

It is equivalent to a desperate madman who is deep in darkness, sees the light but cannot grasp it.

"Why don't you give it a try?"

Ling Yan snatched the script from her hand and waved it around.

"Sister Yan, are you serious?"

Gu Zhong found her wildly imaginative ideas unbelievable.

"Whether the method will work or not, we have to try it to know. You can't just keep dragging your feet on filming, can you? Director Qian would really have to go bang his head against a wall."

When it comes to filming, Gu Zhong becomes serious. She simply can't possibly experience a deeply moving love-hate relationship within two months.

Which section?

"The final scene, a farewell as death approaches."

Gu Zhong quickly adjusted his state and immersed himself in the role.

The net of Heaven is vast, its meshes are wide, yet nothing escapes it.

No matter how meticulous the plan, it will eventually be revealed; when walking beside the sunlight, the shadows will eventually show their tracks.

This is a long-awaited verdict, a standoff amidst the smoke of battle, suppressing unattainable fantasies.

I want to reach out and touch it, but I know deep down that I am hidden in the darkness and do not deserve to have it.

At this moment, Gu Zhong should have been imagining a table of delicious food that he could look at but not eat, to match the emotions of this scene.

But as she watched Lingyan reciting the heartbreaking script, a tear involuntarily slid from the corner of her eye, winding its way down her cheek and leaving a trail.

For some reason, just now, she felt extremely uncomfortable, and an indescribable emotion filled her heart.

The image of war and chaos flashed through her mind, and the blood covering her body and hands smeared the colors of the entire world.

It's as if there was once such a farewell scene. Holding onto an unwavering belief, in exchange for someone's peace and well-being, they smiled and said goodbye forever.

"Gu Zhong?"

Noticing the person in front of her lost in thought and seeing the tear stains still wet at the corners of her eyes, Lingyan couldn't help but move closer anxiously.

"Sister Yan..."

The face so close to her held a magical power that drew people closer, and Gu Zhong, following his heart, embraced Ling Yan.

"I suddenly felt so sad...it's like I once had a love that I'll never forget..."

The hand that was meant to soothe remained frozen in mid-air, not falling for a long time.

Chapter 39 Agent and Movie Queen (Part 11)

==============================

—What have you remembered?

Filled with boundless hope, Lingyan longed to ask that question.

But in the end, she didn't say anything.

The special training aimed at improving acting skills came to nothing.

The next day, Qian Jiu filmed a romantic scene with high hopes. Gu Zhong's lack of talent in this area seemed to have grown overnight.

The filming process went incredibly smoothly, leaving Qian Jiu speechless and even amazed Ling Yan.

"Sister Ling, you're amazing. I explained it to her so many times and still couldn't get it right. I was almost ready to have a real talk with Shen Yue. But you, you managed to train her perfectly in one night. Amazing!"

It was clearly a compliment, but Ling Yan found everything about Qian Jiu's words rather off, yet she couldn't correct him. She could only continue to watch with a cold face as Gu Zhong and Shen Yue exchanged glances on the field.

With her phenomenal acting skills, Gu Zhong finished filming with remarkable ease. After accepting the red envelope from Qian Jiu, she happily bid farewell to the crew, packed her luggage, and prepared to leave.

“Ah Chong…”

Someone gently tugged at Gu Zhong's sleeve.

"Hmm? Yue, what's up?"

Turning around, he saw his familiar partner and gave a polite smile.

"After filming is finished, can I ask you out?"

As Shen Yue spoke, she glanced at Ling Yan, who was contacting the driver on the other side, and seemed a little guilty.

"sure."

Thanks to several months of friendly interaction, Gu Zhong was happy to accept his new friend's invitation.

"Gu Xiaozhong!"

After hanging up the phone, Ling Yan saw Gu Zhong chatting and laughing with Shen Yue again. The two looked reluctant to part. Alarm bells rang in Ling Yan's heart, and she quickly stepped forward.

"Hey! Sister Yan!"

Hearing the call, Gu Zhong responded instantly and turned to run towards her, which reassured Ling Yan somewhat.
