Chapter 57

In the blink of an eye, Gu Zhong pretended to be troubled and said.

What are you going to do?

Feeling a bit annoyed by Gu Zhong's teasing, Ling Yan really wanted to just walk away. After all, with his skill level, nothing bad would happen.

"Why don't you come in and have a seat, Master?"

At some point, Gu Zhong leaned against the door, getting very close, almost touching Ling Yan's earlobe.

Ru Lan exhaled and sprayed her breath onto the cold mask, creating a layer of mist.

Chapter 58 The Leader of the Righteous Alliance and the Leader of the Demonic Cult (Part 11)

====================================

"No, thank you."

Ling Yan's heart skipped a beat, and she turned her head away uncomfortably, trying to appear calm.

"Master... are you shy?"

Gu Zhong pulled away, but his hand climbed onto her shoulder.

"Nonsense!"

Lingyan retorted with a fierce but weak tone, seemingly unaware of the soft hand pressing on her shoulder, and did not shake it off.

Night had fallen, and dark clouds, seemingly appearing from nowhere, obscured the bright moon hanging high in the sky.

The large ship slowed its pace as it cut through the waves, and the indistinct, towering rocks on both banks appeared strange and eerie.

A touch of coolness fell on the exposed skin, dampening the slightly dry texture.

It's raining...

Gu Zhong stretched out his other hand forward.

One drop, two drops... eventually turning into dense threads of rain, gathering in her hand into a warm and clear pool of water.

"Does the Pavilion Master really not want to come in and have a seat?"

She extended the invitation again.

Snap!

Just as Lingyan was about to reply, an unusual, slight splashing sound reached her ears.

Strange sounds mingled with the fine, rhythmic rain; unless one possesses exceptionally keen senses, the difference would be extremely difficult to detect.

Lingyan put her index finger to her lips as a shushing gesture.

The ship seemed to have veered off course without anyone noticing. Its sails, soaked by the rain, billowed, and it sped along in the direction the gale was blowing.

"The rudder is loose... I'll go up and take a look."

After much hesitation, Lingyan decided to go up to the deck to find out more.

"But Master! I..."

Gu Zhong grabbed her sleeve again, biting his lower lip innocently and helplessly, looking at her with a bewildered expression, which gave Ling Yan a headache.

"careful!"

This stalemate didn't last long before it was broken by a dark shadow hiding under the eaves.

Ling Yan pulled Gu Zhong behind her to shield her, and used her right arm guard to block the dagger that was thrust at her. The clanging sound of metal clashing was particularly loud, completely shattering the deliberately feigned tranquility of the rainy night.

One after another, men in black emerged from all sides, each with the ferocity of a tiger fighting for its life, heading straight for the two. It was unclear who they were after.

Even with her unparalleled martial arts skills, protecting a "delicate" woman who was "unable to kill a chicken," Lingyan still found herself struggling and overwhelmed in the face of so many enemies.

Fortunately, Gu Zhong didn't really want to cause trouble. She would occasionally pretend to be panicked and make random, clumsy moves, but those she knocked away rarely got up to continue attacking.

"Sect Master!"

Just as the men in black were closing in, Ye Feng appeared from not far away, with Cheng Yun in his arms.

His brocade robes were stained with blood, and his once handsome and neatly tied hair was now soaked and disheveled by the rain, as if he had just been through a fierce battle.

Ye Feng's appearance did not make the situation better, because he also had many followers behind him, and Cheng Yun needed protection.

Seeing Ling Yan and the other person's current situation, his expression worsened.

"Where are the people from Tianwu Sect?"

Lingyan was the first to speak and ask.

"Most of the disciples drank too much today and unknowingly fell asleep... It's all my fault for not heeding the Pavilion Master's advice."

As he spoke, Ye Feng's face showed feelings of guilt, pain, and anger.

"Defending against the enemy is of utmost importance."

This is not the time for regrets. Lingyan only wants to ask Young Master Ye to deal with the assassins in front of him properly.

"Sect Master!"

The calls, though somewhat disjointed, grew louder as the members of the Heavenly Mystery Pavilion arrived in a scattered manner, presumably having dealt with some of the assassins.

With the addition of the members of the Pavilion, the pressure was somewhat relieved. However, in order to protect the two girls who "did not know martial arts," the situation remained dangerous.

Strangely enough, although the assassins were all dressed in black and masked, their targets were different.

Some fought desperately to take the lives of others, some sought to kill Ye Feng, and others retreated like eels after a failed attack. Of course, there were also those who went straight for the enemy's core, disregarding the blades and weapons at their disposal.

Fortunately, Lingyan stayed close to Gu Zhong, and the others were too busy dealing with the assassins in front of them to notice anything amiss.

A sharp blade pierced the neck of yet another assassin, splattering blood onto the silver mask and drawing alluring patterns.

Another person attacked from behind Gu Zhong. Ling Yan quickly turned around, drew her sword, grabbed the waist of the beauty beside her, and stabbed the attacker through the neck.

Suddenly, the ship began to tremble violently, and a huge wave surged up, lifting one side of the ship high into the air. Those standing on it lost their balance and slid toward the side of the ship.

Gu Zhong and Ling Yan were no exception. Ling Yan used her inner strength to slow down their descent, and the two of them barely managed to hang on the railing, instead of crashing through it and falling into the river like some of the assassins.

Ling Yan leaned against the railing, and Gu Zhong pressed his entire body against her, his arms around her neck, the two of them pressed tightly together.

"Sect Master..."

Gu Zhong's hand slowly slid towards the blood-stained mask, his dark, bright eyes sparkling like stars, possessing an inexplicable allure that made one unconsciously captivated.

Ling Yan only snapped out of her daze when Gu Zhong lifted half of her mask. She quickly reached out and pressed down on Gu Zhong's hand to stop her from taking any further action.

The wind and waves grew stronger, and the ship shook again, tilting to the other side. A lot of water poured into the cabin, causing the ship to sink slightly.

Gu Zhong obediently withdrew his hand and put his arm around Ling Yan's neck again, as she slid to the other side.

During this time, Lingyan shielded her from many open and hidden attacks.

"A person who wants to be a girl must be really determined."

"You flatter me, Master. I am but a courtesan; how could I possibly have such a vicious enemy? However, I did notice a glimpse of your face earlier, and it seems quite familiar."

"oh?"

Ling Yan's heart jumped into her throat.

"As if they were old friends in my room."

For a moment, it was unclear whether she had actually seen something or was just bluffing.

On the ship, which was rocking back and forth in the raging wind and waves, the fighting never stopped.

The number of assassins dwindled, while the number of wounds on people increased.

"Ah Yun!"

Ye Feng's desperate shouts drew Ling Yan's attention.

It turned out that Cheng Yun had taken the sneak attack for Ye Feng, but unfortunately, she didn't have much internal energy and was severely injured.

Enraged, Ye Feng's moves became even more ferocious, and some of the remaining assassins, unable to withstand the attacks, jumped into the water to escape.

Those who were unwilling to leave were also cleared out one by one.

After a chaotic and devastating battle, an even greater crisis was yet to come.

"The ship is sinking."

Lingyan released Gu Zhong and took a few steps back, as if afraid that Gu Zhong would remove her mask again in the next second.

The river water had already submerged the deck, reaching knee-deep.

"I remember this ship was equipped with small lifeboats, I think they were on the helm side."

Ye Feng, carrying the barely breathing Cheng Yun in his arms, channeled his inner energy into her, anxiously saying, "Sect Master, I've heard that the Heavenly Mystery Pavilion possesses a method for transmitting messages over long distances. Could you perhaps..."

"It can't get out now. Young Master, please be patient. Once things have calmed down, I will contact you. Miss Cheng will be alright."

Ling Yan remained calm and composed, glancing at Gu Zhong out of the corner of her eye.

But Gu Zhongzheng was staring blankly at Cheng Yun.
