Qi is easy to pass on - Chapter 6

Chapter 6

After hearing this, Xie Qifeng's entire family was stunned, staring at Le Xipo with expressions as if she were a monster. That car accident was something Xie Qifeng would never forget. He was in his third year of junior high school that year. Because his home was far from the school, his father drove him to school every day. That day, his father received a call from his company saying that Manager Liu was sick and unable to go on a business trip, and asked his father to go in his place. At the time, his father was a deputy manager, and this was a golden opportunity for him to prove himself; he couldn't miss it. So, his father rushed to the company, dropped his son off at the bus stop, and left. A moment later, the bus to school arrived, and Xie Qifeng happily boarded, only to find that he didn't recognize a single classmate. The passengers and the driver all had deathly pale expressions. Then, Xie Qifeng watched as the driver, grinning maliciously, was about to collide with another car approaching from a distance. His next memory was a week later.

Because of his outstanding performance in the negotiations, Mr. Xie was promoted to general manager. Before he could even rejoice, he received a call from Mrs. Xie, saying that their son had been in a car accident and was unconscious in the hospital. Mr. Xie, his face crestfallen, drove to the hospital. Seeing his unconscious son, he wept like a broken record, muttering that he shouldn't have abandoned the child at the bus stop. He then knelt before the attending physician, begging that no matter the cost, he must cure his child. The hospital's matriarch, quite bluntly, said, "Family member, you don't need to waste your energy. Your child is already in a vegetative state. Take him home and water him." At this point, Xie Qifeng's parents were utterly devastated.

A few days later, before Xie Qifeng's parents even got out of bed, they heard someone shouting outside, "Mom, Dad, I'm hungry! Get up and cook, we'll be late!" Xie Qifeng's parents sat bolt upright, slapping each other a few times to make sure it wasn't a dream, then rushed out of the bedroom. They found Xie Qifeng on the sofa, frowning and clutching his stomach. They rushed over and hugged their son, weeping bitterly. Xie Qifeng later learned that the driver was among those killed in the car accident; everyone in the car was dead except for him. He tried to remember what happened in the car that day but couldn't recall anything. After dinner, Xie's parents rushed their son to the hospital for a checkup. Everything was normal. Just as they were leaving the hospital, they ran into the attending physician, who kept exclaiming "Miracle! Miracle!" as he looked at Xie Qifeng. Xie's father spat in his face and left.

Although more than two years have passed, the incident is still vivid in my mind, as if it happened yesterday, which makes the three members of the Xie family break out in a cold sweat.

Grandma Le coughed, pulling the three back from their reverie, and continued, "If I'm not mistaken, kneel down now and become her disciple." Xie Qifeng, facing this benefactor who had saved his life, didn't know what to do. He only heard his parents beside him calling out, "Son, quickly become her disciple!" He then snapped out of his daze and became her disciple. Strangely, Grandma Le forbade Xie Qifeng from calling her "Master," but only "Grandma." Xie Qifeng was about to ask why, but Grandma Le gestured for him to be quiet, so he swallowed his words.

That evening, Le Xipo pretended to perform a ritual. He lit three incense sticks and drew a Qi Reincarnation Diagram on Xuan paper. The vengeful ghost revealed its true form, which the three members of the Xie family, hiding behind Le Xipo, also witnessed, trembling with fear. Le Xipo appeared to be exorcising the ghost, but in reality, he had already helped the vengeful ghost to be reincarnated. The grateful smile the vengeful ghost gave before disappearing remained a mystery to the three members of the Xie family, who racked their brains trying to understand why; only Le Xipo knew the reason.

Afterwards, Le Xipo stayed at Xie's house for one night. The next morning, after her parents and son parted ways, Le Xipo took Xie Qifeng by car to their home in Hebei.

Hearing this, Old Man Leshui smiled and nodded, saying, "Junior Sister, you're really full of clever ideas! Did you give Ji Yan the longevity silk?"

Le Xipo hummed in agreement. Old Man Le Shui sighed and said, "Alas, Junior Sister, you only have three months left to live." Le Xipo's face darkened as she gazed at the stars outside the window. Twenty years ago, a shooting star streaked across the sky. Le Xipo, holding a thin red string she had prepared beforehand, tied a knot in the spot where the shooting star had been. The shooting star stopped, and this was the inauspicious star in Xie Qifeng's destiny. After tying the knot, Le Xipo fastened the red string to her finger as a ring. Two years ago, after Xie Qifeng's car accident, Le Xipo observed the inauspicious star and felt it seemed to drift away. She lit incense and divined, knowing that Xie Qifeng's life was nearing its end. Having no other choice, she begged Old Man Le Shui to teach her the art of prolonging life.

Under the clear sky, Le Xipo defied the heavens and extended Xie Qifeng's lifespan, but as a result, she herself shortened her lifespan to only three years of Yang lifespan remaining. The red string on Le Xipo's hand is the life-extending thread, which is now on Xie Qifeng's hand, thus linking the Yin Star with his lifespan. The star will not move and the soul will not be lost, indirectly adding another layer of protection to Xie Qifeng.

"Xie Qifeng? That's a nice name." Zhou Qiang walked with his hands behind his back, acting like an elder. Xie Qifeng followed behind and hummed in agreement.

"Senior brother, where are we going? This place is so eerie and scary. Why don't we come out during the day?" Xie Qifeng said, shivering and crossing his arms.

Zhou Qiang shook his head and chuckled twice, saying, "It's nothing, we're just going to the cemetery for a few nights, nothing to be alarmed about. I said I'd protect you, don't be afraid." After hearing this, Xie Qifeng's hair stood on end, his mind filled with images of the vengeful ghosts in The Ring, and he couldn't help but grip Zhou Qiang's clothes tightly.

Upon arriving at the cemetery, Zhou Qiang pulled Xie Qifeng to sit down. To help his junior brother relax, Zhou Qiang coughed twice, mimicking the old man Le Shui, and said, "Junior brother, do you know that your Taoist name should be Ji Yan?" Xie Qifeng became interested and asked, "Why?" Zhou Qiang chuckled and said, "You are a Yin Water person. Adding two fires to your Taoist name can adjust your destiny and help you overcome difficulties."

"Then why not call it Ji Huo?" Xie Qifeng nitpicked.

Zhou Qiang patiently explained, "One fire won't burn away the yin energy on your body, and three fires, if too strong, will harm your parents. You'll understand once you've gradually learned Master and Grandma's Qi Yi technique. Now, let me tell you a story about our ancestor and Lao Tzu." This story was originally told to Zhou Qiang by Old Man Le Shui, and now he was retelling it to his junior brother in a methodical manner. However, Zhou Qiang's storytelling was quite engaging, with well-structured plots and numerous climaxes. Xie Qifeng listened so intently that he completely forgot he was in a graveyard. === ...

At dawn, Zhou Qiang glanced at the sky, stood up, stretched, and yawned, saying, "Alright, that's enough for today. It's already light, let's go back." He then looked at Xie Qifeng, who was still staring at Zhou Qiang with lingering interest. Hearing this, Xie Qifeng reluctantly stood up, brushed the dust off his trousers, and said to Zhou Qiang, "Senior brother, the Qi Yi School has such an interesting origin! I'll definitely practice harder from now on."

Zhou Qiang smiled, patted Xie Qifeng on the shoulder, and looked up, saying, "Then I'll practice your courage with you every night. Courage and physical strength are fundamental; master these two before learning the profound arts of Yi." Xie Qifeng chuckled, saying, "No problem, I'm very strong!" As he spoke, he rolled up his sleeves, revealing his bulging biceps. "Actually, I'm quite courageous too..." Before he could finish speaking, someone suddenly jumped out of the bushes, startling Xie Qifeng into hiding behind Zhou Qiang.

Zhou Qiang smiled and patted Xie Qifeng on the shoulder, saying kindly, "Junior brother, don't be afraid. Even if there are demons, your senior brother can still protect you." Xie Qifeng remained silent, peeking half his head out from behind Zhou Qiang's shoulder, pointing at the person who had jumped out, and stammered, "Senior...brother, look, what's that?" Zhou Qiang thought to himself, "It's only natural to encounter one or two wandering ghosts in a graveyard. When I encountered the ghost market with my master, it wasn't as exaggerated as you." But then he thought again, "Wait a minute, it's already morning, how could there be any ghosts appearing?"

Thinking this, Zhou Qiang quickly turned his head to take a closer look, and what he saw almost made him fall over. Emerging from the bushes wasn't a person, it was a zombie! Although Zhou Qiang had heard old man Le Shui talk about all sorts of vengeful ghosts, encountering a zombie was a first for him. The zombie was dressed in a funeral shroud, wearing a tall hat, and its eyes were slightly closed. Judging from its deathly pale face, it was male. Its arms were raised to shoulder height, and its heels were off the ground as it hopped around erratically. Terrified, Zhou Qiang turned to run, but Xie Qifeng grabbed him and pulled him back, bravely and righteously shouting, "Senior brother, today we two brothers will destroy him right here! Senior brother, use your magic, I'll cover you!" He picked up a dry branch and gestured at the zombie, but the zombie seemed to ignore him, continuing to hop around the graveyard.

"Junior brother, run! Master didn't teach me how to deal with zombies!" Zhou Qiang said, already running far away. The dust he kicked up could be vaguely seen behind him. Xie Qifeng quickly threw down his wooden stick, thinking, "Are you saying you're going to protect me? You're really fast!" Without daring to think further, he quickly chased after him, calling out, "Senior brother, wait for me!"

The two men ran all the way to the courtyard, panting heavily. Grandma Lexi had just pushed the cart out of the house and, seeing them out of breath, asked, "What's wrong, you two? Did you go steal chickens and get chased back by the dogs? You two lads, go eat, we'll go for a morning walk later." Grandma Lexi didn't forget to joke. At the dinner table, the two recounted their encounter with the zombie in the graveyard. Xie Qifeng even remarked that his senior brother ran faster than a rabbit, earning him a glare from Zhou Qiang. Zhou Qiang, blushing, asked Old Man Leshui, "Master, what's with the zombie?" Old Man Leshui put down his chopsticks, about to speak, when Grandma Lexi stuffed a piece of cured meat into his mouth.

Lexi Po frowned and said to Leshui Laotou, "We're eating, don't talk about dead people, isn't that disgusting? You can talk about it when we go for our morning walk later." Leshui Laotou had a piece of cured meat stuffed in his mouth, and he pointed at Lexi Po, stammering as if he was cursing.

After eating and drinking their fill, Zhou Qiang began his exercise. He pulled the small cart outside, and Granny Lexi and Old Man Leshui sat in the back. He wondered what it would be like to sit in the cart, and a mischievous thought crossed his mind. He said to Xie Qifeng, "Junior brother, pull the cart. Run if you can, walk if you can't. This is to train your physique. Don't think we're mistreating you." He then jumped into the back, a smug expression on his face. Xie Qifeng didn't think much of it, rolled up his sleeves, grabbed the handlebars, and was about to leave. Suddenly, a cry of pain rang out as Old Man Leshui kicked Zhou Qiang off the cart. Zhou Qiang, clutching his sore bottom, looked at his master in confusion.

At this moment, Old Man Leshui laughed and said, "You little rascal, who told you to come up here? Do you think you're so strong? Go help your junior brother pull the cart." This drew snickers from Lexi Po and Xie Qifeng. After all, it was their master's order, and no matter how bold they were, they dared not disobey. After thinking it over, Zhou Qiang stood up, and he and Xie Qifeng each grabbed a handle and sped off. Xie Qifeng had served in the army for two years and had suffered a lot, so his physique was not much worse than Zhou Qiang's. In the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, the two of them had already pulled the cart out of the village.

On the way, Old Man Leshui started talking: "The zombies you encountered were probably wearing funeral clothes, right?" The two nodded in unison. Old Man Leshui continued, "What you call zombies are corpses that have risen without any human magic, also called 'zombie resurrection.' 'The moon shines brightly amidst the cat and dog, the incense burns out, the candle goes out, and the wind rises the corpse.'" Before Old Man Leshui could finish, Zhou Qiang interrupted, "What does that mean, Master? We don't understand!"

Old Man Leshui slowly picked up his cane. Upon seeing this, Zhou Qiang's eyes widened, and he quickly said, "Master, I was wrong, please continue." Old Man Leshui coughed with a smile and continued, "The corpse must be kept in the living room for three days and two nights, until all relatives and friends have passed away, before it can be cremated and buried. Offerings, incense, and candles must be placed in front of the corpse. Most importantly, the incense must not be broken, as broken incense signifies the end of the family line, a great misfortune. If, on the night of the full moon, a cat sits on the roof of the house where the corpse is kept, and a dog lurks under the table where the corpse is kept, the cat meows and the dog barks..." If the family doesn't continue burning incense, it will inevitably attract wandering ghosts from the neighborhood who will blow out the candles and possess the corpse—this is called "zombie resurrection." Simply put, a resurrected corpse is possessed by a ghost. Ghost possession doesn't mean the body doesn't merge with the person's body. The human body carries yang energy, and even after death, this yang energy takes forty-nine days to dissipate. Therefore, a newly deceased person is like a living person; a ghost can only stay within three inches of the body to possess them. Both ghost possession and resurrection involve the heels not touching the ground, because the ghost's forelegs are supporting the body. A dead body is stiff and can no longer walk, so it hops around. Do you understand?

"Master, why doesn't that zombie attack people? Wandering ghosts also carry resentment, right?" Zhou Qiang asked curiously, and Xie Qifeng nodded repeatedly beside him. Old Man Le Shui chuckled and said, "I guess that wandering ghost doesn't know how it got into the corpse. Right now, it's looking for its own burial place. Sigh, someone will be coming to our house again soon."

Back at his doorstep, just as Old Man Leshui had said, three men were squatting there smoking. One of them, a fat man, saw Zhou Qiang and the others return, stubbed out his cigarette, and greeted them with a smile, "Mr. Leshui, Mr. Yezi, how have you been?" This man was the village head of Yinfeng Village; the bicycle Zhou Qiang had borrowed on his way home belonged to this fat man. Xie Qifeng stared at Zhou Qiang curiously, thinking how capable this senior brother was, that a man in his forties could call him "Mr." A surge of emotion welled up within him—an urge to quickly hone his skills and also be called "Mr."

Zhou Qiang stammered a few words before opening the door. The village head led the two unfamiliar middle-aged men into the house. The village head introduced them as the Sun family from a neighboring village. The man with pockmarked skin was the eldest son, named Sun Aiguo, and the other, with thinning hair, was the second son, named Sun Aijia. They explained that they had drunk too much the previous night and, upon waking, found their deceased father missing. They had come to ask Mr. Leshui for help in identifying who had stolen the body. Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng suppressed a laugh, thinking, "Who could possibly steal your old man? If you saw your father jumping around like that, you'd be scared to death!"

"You two didn't even burn incense for your deceased father last night, but now that his corpse has risen from the dead, you're all panicking? You're truly two unfilial sons." After thinking this, Old Man Leshui snorted and said, "Easy. Your father is jumping around in the graveyard behind Yinfeng Village. Go and tie him up." He then ordered Zhou Qiang to fetch a rope. Zhou Qiang retrieved the red rope he had used to bind Gao Ruyi's wife last time and threw it to the two Sun brothers. The two brothers were terrified. Their father was dead; how could he be jumping? Could it be a corpse rising from the dead? They had considered this possibility. Seeing the thin rope Zhou Qiang threw over, they were even more shocked, thinking, "This can't even bind a grasshopper, how can it bind a corpse?" They got up and started to walk away, abandoning even their own father. Xie Qifeng stepped forward, blocking their path, shouting, "Don't you even want your own father? Be careful, the zombie will bite you to death tonight and suck your blood dry!" He'd watched too many zombie movies; his nonsense was just that. This almost scared the two brothers so much they wet themselves. They quickly turned around and begged the old man Leshui, and the village head also said some nice things.

Originally, Old Man Leshui didn't want to help these two unfilial sons, but since he owed the village head a favor, he sent Zhou Qiang to retrieve the corpse. Upon hearing that Zhou Qiang was to go, the village head praised Mr. Ye Zi for his skill in exorcising ghosts and suppressing evil spirits in the village, saying that ghosts avoided him wherever he went. Zhou Qiang chuckled as he packed his things and led the two men out of the house. Xie Qifeng, curious, followed, wanting to see for himself the abilities of this "Senior Brother Ye Zi."

The four arrived at the graveyard and saw the zombie hopping around in place at one of the graves. Zhou Qiang, having heard his master say that resurrected corpses wouldn't attack, swaggered over, glanced at the tombstone which read "Tomb of the Zhang Family, Li Clan," and pondered how to deal with the possession. He then pulled a dried blood clot from his bag and explained to the three behind him, "This is chicken blood. Chicken blood has strong yang energy; putting it in someone's mouth can dispel possession. It's a relatively simple method." He then seized the opportunity, pinched the zombie's mouth, and threw the blood clot in. The zombie instantly froze, stiffly collapsing to the ground. Zhou Qiang turned and said, "Tie it up and take it home." Xie Qifeng, who had expected a fierce battle, was surprised that a piece of chicken blood had solved the problem, and couldn't help but marvel at the profound magic within the Qi-Yi technique. The Sun brothers tied up their old man and carried him back. When they arrived at the door, Old Man Leshui and the village head were waiting. Just as the Sun brothers were about to carry the body into the house, the village head stopped them, saying that it was unlucky for a corpse to enter someone else's house, and that he would just perform a ritual on the spot. Zhou Qiang untied the red rope from the corpse and put it in his bag, while Xie Qifeng pushed over a cart and put the corpse on it.

The two Sun brothers bowed and scraped to Old Man Leshui, saying, "Sir, is there anything else we can do?" Old Man Leshui turned and whispered a few words to the village head, who then scurried off. A few minutes later, the village loudspeaker blared, "Attention! Attention! Everyone at home, put down what you're doing and hurry to Mr. Leshui's house to help him perform his magic to save people!" Then, groups of people rushed over.

This puzzled the two Sun brothers. Sun Aiguo leaned close to Old Man Leshui's ear and asked, "Sir, what are we doing here?" Old Man Leshui replied solemnly, "Although your father is dead, his resurrection is due to resentment. It must be because you two are unfilial. I called everyone here to replenish his yang energy; otherwise, you two zombies alone would have bitten you to death!" Sun Aiguo's mouth gaped open like a toad's croak. After saying this, Old Man Leshui patted Zhou Qiang on the shoulder, indicating that the rest was up to him, then shook his head and went into the house.

At this moment, the village head also ran back, panting, and said to Zhou Qiang, "Sir, quickly perform the ritual." Zhou Qiang thought, how could he perform the ritual? He had already driven the ghost out of the corpse in the graveyard. Zhou Qiang glanced at the two unfilial brothers and came up with a crooked idea. He walked up to the Sun brothers in a serious manner and said, "You two kneel down, kowtow ninety-nine times, and chant the incantation one hundred times."

"What incantation?" the two Sun brothers asked in unison.

“Just shout, ‘Father, your son is unfilial!’ That’s enough. If you don’t shout it even once, you’ll lose your lives.” Zhou Qiang made a strange expression.

The two Sun brothers kowtowed and chanted incantations before the corpse in front of everyone. Some villagers whispered, some chuckled, and some even clapped and cheered. Zhou Qiang quietly approached the village head and said, "Uncle Liang, after they finish kowtowing, tell the villagers to go home. Then have these two kowtowing worms take the cart to the yard, and then carry their father's body home for burial." He yawned, and seeing Xie Qifeng watching with interest, he called to him. The two then went inside to sleep.

No one noticed the serene smile that appeared on the corpse's lips. ========================================================================================= Chapter 32: The Contract of the Vengeful Ghost - Yi Ge's Spirit - Collected and organized by

Horse-faced demon ran out of the seventeenth level of hell with the edict written in ghost blood, cursing, "Damn it, who wrote this vengeful ghost contract? Of all people to mess with, why did they have to mess with Old Man Le Shui? Isn't that just courting death?" He then snorted and headed towards the eighteenth level of hell. It turned out that the vengeful ghost in Gao Ruyi's house had written a contract before dying, and Horse-faced demon was carrying it around looking for someone. The little ghosts wanted to take on this task, but when they heard it involved dealing with Old Man Le Shui, they were too frightened to utter a sound.

In the eighteen levels of hell, several little demons walked along a mountain of knives. On the side paths, constables whipped the lazy demons. The demons on the mountain of knives were covered in knife wounds, like sponges, from which oozed a gruesome, egg-yolk-colored blood. Horse-Face entered, coughed, and roared, "Listen up! A ghost has made a pact with you all. See if you can handle it!" In an instant, the only sound in the eighteen levels was the bubbling of oil in a cauldron. All the ghosts poked their heads out, looking at Horse-Face. Horse-Face read the pact aloud: "This ghost fought with the old man Le Shui, and died with resentment. I wish to find a wise man to help me kill the old man Le Shui, and then be reborn in his body. I am willing to endure the tortures of hell again." Horse-Face looked around. Some of the demons, upon hearing that they had to deal with the old man Le Shui, sighed and continued their tortures. A few others glared at Horse-Face, seemingly eager to try.

Suddenly, a strange cry came from the enormous oil cauldron: "Holy crap!" A bald, evil demon crawled out of the cauldron, its entire body covered in blood blisters from the scalding oil, leaving only two bloodshot eyes and dark green teeth. The demon staggered to Horse-Face, who looked at it and mocked, "You? You dare to mess with Old Man Le Shui?" The demon slowly stood up, its face twisted in a sinister grin, and said, "Heh heh, Old Man Le Shui, you've made my life miserable. I'm going to kill you all." Horse-Face was startled, wondering what deep-seated grudge this demon held against Old Man Le Shui, and asked, "State your name!"

The evil spirit chuckled and whispered, "Wang Lao Er."

After several days of instruction from Granny Lexi and Old Man Leshui, Xie Qifeng had gained the ability to open his third eye and third ear, and could also observe incense and assess dwellings, as well as slightly gather yin energy for self-defense. Zhou Qiang, besides studying the I Ching, was busy running around helping people exorcise ghosts and solve problems, keeping himself very busy. But who knew that another great calamity awaited them?

That night, Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng left home chatting and laughing, seemingly heading to the cemetery to practice their martial arts. After they had walked a distance, a figure appeared in the distance; upon closer inspection, it was Zheng Xinhua, the village head of the neighboring village. Zheng Xinhua, with a grim face, knocked on the door of old man Le Shui's house, "Knock, knock, knock."

"Who is it?" Grandma Lexi and Old Man Leshui had just lain down when they heard a knock at the door. Grandma Lexi got up, rubbed her eyes, and called out. There was still no answer from outside, but the knocking continued. Grandma Lexi cursed and ran out of the house to open the door. Zheng Xinhua stood there with a grin, saying, "Grandma Lexi, I need to speak with Mr. Leshui." Grandma Lexi already felt something was off, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it, so she invited Zheng Xinhua inside.

At this moment, Old Man Leshui finished dressing and walked into the outer room, leaning on his cane. Zheng Xinhua smiled strangely when he saw Old Man Leshui, but Granny Leshui didn't see it. If she had, she would have seen through Zheng Xinhua's disguise.

"What do you want?" Old Man Le Shui plopped down in a chair and asked.

Zheng Xinhua nervously lit a cigarette and said, "Sir, my wife might be possessed by a ghost. She won't eat or drink at home and is biting people randomly. Please take a look and see if my wife is possessed by a ghost."

The old man chuckled and said, "He's possessed by a ghost."

Zheng Xinhua thought his scheme had succeeded and added fuel to the fire, saying, "Then why don't you come with me to take a look, sir?"

"I haven't finished yet. It's a ghost possession, but unfortunately, it's not your wife, it's you," Old Man Leshui said nonchalantly, yawning. Immediately afterward, Granny Leshui stared intently at Zheng Xinhua. Upon hearing this, Zheng Xinhua visibly stiffened, his expression turning tense. He stammered, "Sir, what nonsense are you talking about?" With that, he pulled a hidden kitchen knife from his waist and swung it at Old Man Leshui. By then, it was too late for Granny Leshui to stop him.

Zheng Xinhua was possessed by Wang Lao Er's ghost and thought he could lure Old Man Le Shui outside to deal with him. After all, dealing with both Old Man Le Shui and Granny Le Shui at the same time was not an easy task. Unfortunately, Old Man Le Shui saw through his scheme and had no choice but to grab a kitchen knife and slash at him.

Hearing the commotion, Old Man Le Shui rose to his feet, deflecting the cleaver with his cane and striking Zheng Xinhua with it. Zheng Xinhua staggered back two steps, his face turning a deep green. Though bright red blood streamed from his head, he paid no heed. With a gust of icy wind, a blood-bubbled demon appeared behind Zheng Xinhua's body.

"Who are you?" Before the old man could speak, the old woman asked.

"Hahahaha, you don't even recognize me? Old man Leshui, you've caused me so much suffering! I have no grudge against you, yet you commanded vengeful ghosts to take my life! Today I will kill both of you!" Zheng Xinhua and the evil ghost spoke simultaneously, their voices overlapping and particularly grating. Upon hearing this, Old Man Leshui recognized Wang Lao Er's voice, and a cruel look slowly crept onto his face.

Old Man Leshui opened his third eye and roared, "The unfilial one, kill!" He then raised his cane and struck. Zheng Xinhua didn't dodge, taking the blow squarely. The evil spirit behind him chuckled, "Hit me, hit me! Even if you kill me, you'll have to pay for Zheng Xinhua's life." Old Man Leshui realized this was bad. Even if he killed someone possessed by a ghost, the evil spirit would be unharmed. His first priority was to separate Zheng Xinhua's body from the evil spirit. Old Man Leshui gave a wink to Granny Lexi, who understood and ran back into the house. With Granny Lexi gone, the evil spirit became even more rampant, wildly hacking at Old Man Leshui. Old Man Leshui understood that if he accidentally killed Zheng Xinhua, he would fall into the evil spirit's trap. He only dodged, not attacked. In the end, Zheng Xinhua smashed all the vases and paintings in Old Man Leshui's living room to pieces.

Old Man Leshui dodged another knife, leaning on the table and panting heavily. The evil spirit behind Zheng Xinhua chuckled sinisterly, saying, "Old Man Leshui, let's see how long you can last. Hurry up and die!" It charged forward, but suddenly the door slammed open, and Granny Lexi rushed in, picked up a mirror, checked it against the moonlight, and shone it on Zheng Xinhua. Zheng Xinhua and the evil spirit simultaneously covered their eyes and howled in horror, white smoke rising from their bodies.

Le Xipo had thought the power of the Mirror would be enough to separate Zheng Xinhua and the evil spirit, but it failed. After the white smoke from the evil spirit dissipated, the eerie laughter of the evil spirit could be faintly heard. The evil spirit shook off the blood blisters on its body, which fell to the ground with a series of crackling sounds, which was extremely disgusting. Even Old Man Le Shui and Le Xipo felt nauseous when they saw it, after all, they had never seen a ghost that had escaped from the eighteenth level of hell to seek revenge.

After laughing, the evil spirit gritted its teeth and said, "I thought Old Man Le Shui and Granny Le Xi were so capable, but it turns out they only have this rudimentary skill. They think they can break my body with such a little bit of yang energy? They underestimate me." It turned out that the high-temperature oil in the cauldron of boiling oil in the eighteenth level of hell had already tempered Wang Lao Er's body into one that was impervious to heat and yang energy.

Old Man Le Shui took a deep breath, thinking that even using pure Yang substances like chicken blood, cinnabar, and the Qi-Changing Diagram wouldn't separate Zheng Xinhua's body from the evil spirit. What should he do? Suddenly, Le Xi Po's eyes lit up, and she cried out, "Senior Brother, protect me!" Old Man Le Shui thought for a moment, what kind of protection? Besides the Dream-Changing Technique, what other divination technique needs protection? Could it be...? Old Man Le Shui dared not think further. Was Le Xi Po going to use the only forbidden technique he knew—the Yin-Absorbing Soul-Shattering Divination Technique?!

The Soul-Splitting and Yin-Absorbing Technique was a forbidden technique that Le Xipo only discovered in the Qi Yi Jing (Book of Changes) when she was fifty years old. It involved first gathering a large amount of Yin energy using a Yin-Gathering Technique, then the caster inhaled this Yin energy into their body. The caster's soul then left their body, and the Yin energy trapped within would remain imprisoned as the soul departed, inevitably leading to the caster's death. Le Xipo was initially puzzled by this suicidal technique, wondering why her ancestor would create such a spell. However, she now truly understood that this technique was specifically designed to deal with Yin-bodied evil spirits that were immune to Yang energy. ======================================================================================== Chapter 33 of "The Successor of Qi Yi" - The Spirit of Brother Yi - Collected and compiled by

"Absolutely not!" Old Man Leshui exclaimed, racking his brains for a way to separate Zheng Xinhua from the evil spirit. Suddenly, he remembered the simplest folk remedy for exorcising a possessed spirit: pinching the index finger with chopsticks. This method had always been effective against possessing spirits by folk witches and shamans, and it had nothing to do with the principles of yin and yang. Since he couldn't use yang magic to repel the evil spirit right now, this was the only option. But it was too late to run to the kitchen.

Thinking this, Old Man Leshui grabbed his cane, raised it to his knee, and with a sudden burst of strength, the cane broke in two. Zheng Xinhua rushed towards Old Man Leshui, but before he could reach him, Old Woman Leshui kicked him away, smashing a large, sturdy water vat to pieces. Just as Zheng Xinhua tried to stand up, Old Woman Leshui kicked him to the ground again, straddling him and wildly slapping his face. At that moment, Old Man Leshui stepped forward, grabbed Zheng Xinhua's hand, and forcefully pinched his index finger between the two pieces of the cane. Zheng Xinhua cried out, his bloodshot eyes widened for a moment, and then he fainted.

The evil spirit Wang Lao Er had unknowingly arrived at the doorway, chuckling, "You two old geezers are quite something. Let's see how you break my true form." Upon hearing this, Old Man Le Shui rose, snorted, and threw his cane to the ground. With his left hand, he pulled out three Qi Yi diagrams, and with his right hand, he pressed a fire needle onto one of them. With a fierce exertion, the Qi Yi diagrams burst into flames, quickly burning the paper-made diagrams to ashes, leaving only a bright red embroidery needle—Old Man Le Shui's magic weapon—the fire needle.

Le Xipo wasn't idle either. After standing up, she clasped her hands together and muttered incantations, her voice growing louder and louder until even Old Man Le Shui covered his ears to endure the jarring chants. Suddenly, a dozen dark figures scurried onto the roof and slowly climbed down from the eaves. The evil spirit looked closely and realized, "Why are there a bunch of black cats?" That's right, this was Le Xipo's unique skill, the Art of Words and Transformation. It allowed her to communicate with and control animals. Controlling animals was against the natural order, but Le Xipo couldn't care less at this moment. Le Xipo suddenly opened her eyes, which had transformed into cat eyes, and let out a strange cry: "Meow!" The dozen or so black cats behind the evil spirit meowed in agreement, slowly approaching. The evil spirit panicked. Black cats were considered talismans in the underworld; a scratch from a black cat would reduce yin energy. Looking at so many black cats behind her, was she about to be killed by them?

In the blink of an eye, before the evil spirit could even think, Old Man Leshui had silently appeared beside it. He pierced the evil spirit's navel with a fire needle and whispered in its ear, "Go to hell, you little bastard!" The evil spirit staggered back two steps, clutching its stomach. Before it could regain its footing, the black cats behind it swarmed up and climbed onto its body, biting and scratching wildly.

To their utter surprise, the demon's body had perhaps been submerged in the oil for too long, its skin forming hard blisters. No matter how hard the black cats tried to tear at it, they couldn't break through the demon's true form. Looking at the demon's navel, they realized the attack hadn't even pierced it; it had only punctured a blister. The demon gave a violent shake, and all the black cats on its body fell to the ground, their tails tucked between their legs, glaring menacingly at the demon. The old man and the old woman were truly at their wits' end.

"Senior brother, quickly protect me! It'll be too late if you don't!" Le Xi Po shouted sternly at Le Shui Lao Tou. Le Shui Lao Tou sighed; he had no other choice. He took out the ghost-raising bottle and released a plume of black smoke. The smoke circled around the evil ghost Wang Lao Er, finally revealing its true form as a malevolent ghost behind him. It tightly embraced Wang Lao Er, and no matter how much the evil ghost struggled, it was futile. The malevolent ghost was like a leech, clinging to its body, rendering it immobile. Meanwhile, Le Xi Po had already taken out the incense burner from under the table, placed three incense sticks on it, and Le Shui Lao Tou stood in front of her to protect her. After the incense was lit, Le Xi Po squatted silently, her face gradually turning from a yellowish-brown to deathly pale, and her black and white hair turning pure white. Lexi Po suddenly opened her eyes and saw a cold wind blowing outside, with the cries of wild ghosts echoing everywhere. Then all the glass in the house shattered, and several lonely ghosts drifted in from outside. Judging from their pained expressions, they seemed to have been sucked in by something.

"Senior brother, dodge!" Le Xipo used this technique, her voice as piercing as sawing down a tree. Old Man Le Shui dodged at the sound, and the wandering ghosts were sucked into Le Xipo's mouth one by one. The evil spirit dragged forward two steps, then clung tightly to the ground, resisting Le Xipo. Seeing this, Old Man Le Shui hurriedly shouted, "Evil ghost, come back quickly!" At his command, the evil ghost swiftly transformed into a wisp of black smoke and drifted into the ghost-raising bottle.

At this moment, Le Xipo's soul had already left her body, her body still squatting on the ground, mouth open, sucking in yin energy. Her soul was slowly moving towards the evil spirit. The evil spirit's eyes began to show panic and unease, and it hurriedly said, "Don't come any closer, don't come any closer." Le Xipo's soul was disheveled, her eyes had no pupils, only the whites of her eyes remained, and even her teeth were deathly white, like a white ghost, not much different from a blood-stained lump. Le Xipo walked to the lying evil spirit and said with a wicked smile, "Come here." After saying that, she grabbed the evil spirit's legs and pulled them towards her body. It seemed that Le Xipo exerted no effort at all, as easily as dragging a dead dog. Le Xipo passed behind her, and the evil spirit had already been pulled into Le Xipo's body. Instantly, the wind stopped.

The ghost of Lexi Po wiped the sweat from her brow and said to Old Man Leshui, "Senior Brother, I've taken care of him. Hehe." Old Man Leshui lowered his head, not daring to look at Lexi Po, tears streaming down his face. Lexi Po could tell at a glance that Old Man Leshui was crying, so she said with a forced smile, "Senior Brother, my lifespan wasn't much to begin with anyway; I just died two months early. You don't need to be sad. It was all my fault before; I shouldn't have always bullied you. You loved me, didn't you?"

Like a child, the old man wiped away his tears and said in a muffled voice, "Yes, I loved you!"

A satisfied smile appeared on Le Xipo's face. "That's good, that's good," she said. "You've already blinded yourself for me; I'm already very content." As she spoke, the clanking of chains from the ox-headed and horse-faced demons came from outside. Le Xipo hurriedly said, "Senior brother, I don't have much time left. You must take good care of these two children. I'm leaving." With tears in her eyes, Le Xipo disappeared, her body collapsing with a thud. Several black cats outside let out a few mournful cries, climbed onto the roof, and vanished into the night.

Old Man Le Shui hurriedly cradled Le Xi Po's head, helplessly screaming, "Ah ...

Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng were chatting animatedly at the gravesite when suddenly Xie Qifeng's hand, adorned with the longevity silk, began to tremble uncontrollably, without him even noticing. Zhou Qiang noticed this and pointed at his hand, saying, "Junior brother, why are your hands shaking?" Xie Qifeng then noticed his hand and was puzzled when a long howl echoed from the village. Zhou Qiang frowned and cried out, "Oh no! Something's happened to Master!" With that, the two of them jumped up and ran frantically towards home.

Upon entering, they saw Old Man Leshui grieving over the long-dead Lexi Po. Both men collapsed to their knees, wailing in pain. As disciples recruited by Lexi Po, they found it unbearable to accept the death of their beloved and respected Lexi Po. Tears and snot streamed down their faces. Zhou Qiang, however, was more sensible. He wiped away his tears, glanced at the unconscious Zheng Xinhua beside him, and choked out to Old Man Leshui, "Master, who killed Grandma?" Old Man Leshui slowly lifted Lexi Po and placed her on the bed, then recounted the events of the night to the two men.

This week, Qiang heard that Le Xipo had subdued the evil spirit, and he was so angry he gritted his teeth. He ran to the outer room and kicked the sleeping Zheng Xinhua violently. Xie Qifeng, on the other hand, silently stayed by Le Xipo's side, taking her cold little hands and rubbing them against his face. "Grandma, touch me, please stop pretending to be asleep," he said, tears streaming down his face again. Xie Qifeng then asked the old man Le Shui, who sat blankly at the head of the bed, "Uncle-Master, did Grandma have any last words?"

"Junior Sister's greatest wish is for you to call him Master!" Old Man Le Shui's voice was already hoarse.

Xie Qifeng asked, puzzled, "Why didn't Grandma's living master let me call her Master?" Then Old Man Leshui told Xie Qifeng about Grandma Lexi's cursed fate, adding, "Jiyan, your master used a life-extending technique to wait for you, extending her life by twenty years. Even in her next life, she can only be a poor child who dies young." Xie Qifeng released Grandma Lexi's hand and cried out to the corpse, "Master, Master, Master, I'll call you that as many times as you want! Please get up, don't sleep anymore. Master..."

At the same time, Zheng Xinhua's wife entered the house with several strong men from the village. She thought she wanted to ask Old Man Leshui for help in finding her husband. Upon entering, she saw Zhou Qiang kicking her unconscious husband. The men quickly stopped Zhou Qiang, who roared a few times, panting heavily, before slowly returning to normal. Seeing that people had arrived, Old Man Leshui went out and explained the situation to Zheng Xinhua's wife. Zheng Xinhua's wife glanced at the kitchen knife on the ground, blushed, and said nothing more, then told the men to carry Zheng Xinhua home.

The news of Le Xipo's death quickly spread throughout Yinfeng Village and the surrounding villages among these strong men. As soon as it was dawn, people began to arrive at the house one after another. These people were all those whom Le Shui Laotou and Le Xipo had helped. Some of them bought funeral clothes for Le Xipo, while others had prepared sacrificial pork and other food. Everyone helped Le Shui Laotou tidy up the mess in the house, and several people even carried in a large pot, intending to cook for those keeping vigil over Le Xipo.

Le Xipo's body was placed at the main entrance of the outer room. Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng knelt on either side of the door, and some people helped set up a tent for the funeral procession. Xiao Wang from the neighboring village, supporting his grandfather Lao Wangtou, also arrived. Lao Wangtou played his suona (a traditional Chinese wind instrument) outside the door to express his sorrow for Le Xipo's death. Zhou Qiang had received a phone call from Song Xiaohei, asking how he was doing. Zhou Qiang told Song Xiaohei about the incident. That evening, hearing several car horns, Zhou Qiang guessed that the talkative Xiaohei had told his uncle Song Peng. Sure enough, Song Peng and Gao Ruyi arrived by car, bringing a truck with them. The truck bed was piled high with wreaths; Zhou Qiang roughly counted over fifty, some inscribed "Respectfully presented by adopted son Song Peng," others "Respectfully presented by nephew Gao Ruyi."

Song Peng, his nose stinging with tears, entered the house and knelt down before Le Xipo's body with a thud. If it weren't for Le Xipo's rescue, he would have been a wandering ghost long ago. He cried out, "My godmother, your son is too late! Open your eyes and look at your son!" His face was contorted with grief, showing he was no less heartbroken than Old Man Le Shui and the others. Gao Ruyi bowed respectfully three times, then went to Old Man Le Shui's room to comfort the old man. The two were quite loyal; after the truck driver unloaded the wreaths and drove away, they decided to keep vigil for Le Xipo for two days.

That night, Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng worked the night shift to continue the incense offering for the deceased, Le Xipo. Although Le Xipo had no relatives or descendants, the custom of continuing the incense offering couldn't be abandoned, lest outsiders laugh at them. The next day, the village head led a large group of people to arrange the wreaths neatly, layer upon layer, creating a spectacular sight for onlookers. Zhou Qiang and Xie Qifeng, having worked all night, had gone to sleep in a side room. Song Peng and Gao Ruyi, each in a suit, knelt and kowtowed in front of the door. Those who had never left the village whispered among themselves, wondering what abilities this mysterious Le Xipo possessed that even wealthy people from the city would come to "pay their respects." This act of "paying respects" involved the deceased bowing and kowtowing in remembrance of the dead, and the deceased's family returning the gesture with kowtows.

As night fell, Song Peng and Gao Ruyi couldn't stay awake any longer, and Zhou Qiang and his fellow apprentices came to relieve them. Leaning against the wall outside, Zhou Qiang asked, "Junior brother, do you regret joining our Qi Yi Sect?" Xie Qifeng shook his head. Zhou Qiang smiled, took off the protective armor that Le Xipo had given him, and draped it over Xie Qifeng's shoulders. Xie Qifeng looked at Zhou Qiang, puzzled. Zhou Qiang gazed at the sky and said, "This was given to me by Grandma. You are her disciple, so it's naturally yours. Wear it; it wards off evil." His eyes were already brimming with tears, but he forced them back, rubbing them dry with his elbow. Upon hearing that it was Le Xipo's keepsake, Xie Qifeng took the armor off his shoulders, bowed his head, and hugged it tightly to his chest. One looked up, holding back tears, the other bowed his head, silently weeping. If Le Xipo were alive and saw this, she would surely be comforted.

In Leling, Shandong, a Mercedes-Benz with a Beijing license plate stopped in front of a large tomb. The middle-aged man in the front passenger seat turned to the two men in the back and said, "You two remember, you must retrieve the jade and the Kongming Fan." He glanced at his watch. "It's twelve o'clock now. If they don't come out by two, we're leaving immediately. You won't get your money, and you won't save your lives!" The gaunt man in the back seat smiled obsequiously and said, "Boss, don't worry, we're efficient." He nudged the burly man with a face full of sesame seeds next to him, who nodded repeatedly.

"Then you should go quickly."

After saying this, the two got out of the car and quietly approached the tomb, sneaking into the tunnel that had already been dug. The driver in the car said, "Brigadier Liu, do you think they can get their hands on it?" The middle-aged man smiled but did not answer.

The two men had already entered the tomb chamber. The pockmarked man turned on his flashlight and shone it around, spotting a stone coffin. He exclaimed excitedly, "Second Brother, I found the coffin!" The thin man rushed over, and upon closer inspection, he saw it was indeed there. He said, "I reckon the jade seal and the broken fan are inside the coffin! Haha! Ten thousand yuan is easily in our hands. We brothers can now..." Before he could finish, a whooshing sound came from the corner of the tomb chamber. "Third Brother, did you hear that?" the thin man asked the pockmarked man, having also noticed the sound. The pockmarked man shone his flashlight in the direction of the sound and instantly cried out in alarm, "This is...this is..." Then the flashlight fell to the ground, followed by the painful cries for help from the two men.

"Commander, did you hear that?" the driver asked, his face covered in sweat. The middle-aged man sighed and said, "Let's go." Then the car sped off into the distance.

On the day of Le Xipo's funeral, no fewer than three hundred people came. Zhou Qiang, dressed in mourning clothes, smashed a tile, symbolizing that it was time for Le Xipo's ghost to begin its journey. As soon as the tile shattered, everyone wept. Zhou Qiang, head bowed, held a paper effigy of the soul-guiding spirit, while Xie Qifeng followed behind with incense. Song Peng and Gao Ruyi supported Old Man Le Shui, and the others wept behind them. Reaching the cemetery required crossing a wide road; after the first few people had passed, it would take the next few ten or eight minutes. Fortunately, there were few vehicles that day, except for a Mercedes with a Beijing license plate that was blocking the way.

The middle-aged man in the car had a gloomy face. His grave-robbing attempt had failed, and now he'd encountered a funeral procession. He cursed, saying it was bad luck. The driver, however, said, "Wow, whose funeral is this? So many people! I'll get out and ask." He glanced at the man and got off the bus. The driver walked over to a woman and asked, "Sister, whose funeral is this? Why are there so many relatives?" The woman looked around, then pulled the driver aside and said, "Young man, don't talk nonsense. The deceased is the village's Qi Yi Immortal. Everyone in our village consults them for feng shui, grave site selection, exorcising ghosts, and dealing with spirit possession. The two in the front are her apprentices, and the blind old man behind him is her senior apprentice. Look at the two people next to the old man; they're from big cities. They even drove here! Young man, you'd better wait a bit before you cross. They're people you can't afford to mess with."

The driver smiled, said thank you, and ran back to his car. After explaining the details to the middle-aged man, the man smirked and said, "Qi Yi? A deity?" Then he smiled slightly.

During the Spring Festival, neither Zhou Qiang nor Xie Qifeng left Hebei, staying by the side of Old Man Leshui, which greatly pleased him. Spring arrived, flowers bloomed, and all things revived. Zhou Qiang gave the Qi Yi Jing to Xie Qifeng, hoping to see what strange magic he could comprehend. However, aside from the Dream Yi and Language Yi taught to him by Lexi Po, he only grasped the Earth Yi technique. At this moment, the two eagerly surrounded Old Man Leshui, asking what the Earth Yi technique was. Old Man Leshui smiled and said, "Earth Yi technique? That's rare. I've only heard my master mention this kind of Yi technique, something about tomb raiding. My master only knows how to look at feng shui and burial sites; as for how to manipulate things beneath burial sites, I'm not very clear."

After hearing this, Xie Qifeng said dejectedly, "Uncle-Master, it seems my skills are not up to par. That's why the Ancestral Master made me look at this trashy divination technique." Old Man Leshui patted Xie Qifeng on the shoulder and said kindly, "Child, the Ancestral Master made you comprehend this divination technique because it contains heavenly secrets. How could it be trashy divination technique?" After saying that, he smiled and walked away.

Ever since Le Xipo's death, Old Man Leshui had developed a habit of always going out for walks; perhaps staying at home reminded him of her. One day, Old Man Leshui was wandering aimlessly, leaning on a cane newly made by Zhou Qiang, when the sound of reading attracted him. He followed the sound without realizing it. It turned out that several children were reading in the village's dilapidated mud house. The so-called platform was just a large stone. An older girl was holding a tattered book and reading aloud, while several younger children sitting on the stone below followed along. This girl, two years older than the other children, was their teacher. Although spring had arrived, Old Man Leshui could still hear the children shivering. The children saw Old Man Leshui and rushed out, surrounding him.
