Chapter 47

Poor child! Lin Yao hugged Gu Li tightly, gently stroking his head. He felt no remorse for the murder that afternoon, but rather a sense of satisfaction.

"Brother, you've picked up a son! He can keep your little girl company." Ge Yong smiled. He hadn't studied child psychology and didn't analyze the situation thoroughly. He thought that Gu Li would never be able to find his biological parents, and that the little boy might even have to change his name to Lin Li.

"Great! I'll have a little brother now! Uncle Yao, you're so kind of you, you gave me a little brother all at once!" Nannan jumped up excitedly, and her words made the adults chuckle. Even Lin Yao felt a little embarrassed, since he was still a virgin.

"Uncle Yao, you don't look good at all today. You used to look better. My dad made you ugly. Please change back quickly. You'll look even better when you're with little brother Guli. You'll both be beautiful. Dad is beautiful, and little brother is beautiful." Seeing that her words made the adults happy, Nannan became even more enthusiastic. "My mom is also very beautiful, so I'm beautiful too. Uncle Yao, you and little brother Guli have to be just as beautiful, otherwise people will say you're not his dad."

"What kind of twisted logic is this? Does that mean your dad is pretty too?" Ge Yong affectionately patted his daughter's head.

“Daddy isn’t pretty. Mommy says Daddy looks like a bear. Mommy and Nannan are pretty, and Uncle Yao and Brother Guli are pretty too. Only Daddy isn’t pretty.” The group was a little dizzy from Nannan’s repeated praises of being pretty. The atmosphere in the room was very pleasant, and Guli lifted his head from Lin Yao’s arms to secretly peek at the others.

"Alright, Gu Li's situation can be resolved. Let him stay here for now, and we'll help him find his parents later. Please take care of him in the meantime, sister-in-law." Lin Yao made the decision not to force Gu Li to recall the past, as that might backfire. He believed that after a while, Gu Li would return to normal with everyone's care and love, and that would be the right time to ask about his situation and help him find his parents.

"You are my father, I don't want to look for my parents." Upon hearing Lin Yao's words, Gu Li immediately rushed back into his arms, tightly clutching Lin Yao's clothes at the chest, as if afraid that he would disappear at any moment.

"Okay, okay, I'm your dad. Guli, you have to listen to your dad from now on. And this Uncle Ge, Auntie, and Sister Nannan." After Lin Yao finished speaking, he suddenly remembered that Alina's surname was very special, so he told Guli to omit the surname and just call her Auntie.

"Yes, Lili is the best girl. Lili listens to her father." Guli buried her face in Lin Yao's chest and said in a deep voice.

Thank you everyone!

I wonder if anyone is still reading so late. I've been typing away, so I'll just post a section I've finished now to express my gratitude and respect.

This book actually rose to fifth place on the homepage starting at midnight—a truly tremendous honor! You know, some books that had been featured on the Sanjiang list were beaten by your enthusiasm. Thank you!

I've been on the homepage charts all day, and I'm already very satisfied. You don't need to save your recommendation votes for me; give them to the good books you've been supporting. I'm happy with the day I've spent on them, haha.

I checked the data, and you guys are amazing today. You might even keep me on the homepage rankings for half a day or even a whole day on Tuesday (today) because the data is so incredible. You're way ahead of 12th place. Your foundation is so solid, haha.

One day is enough. Please don't bother voting for me anymore. If you're used to voting for other books, then vote for those books. If you're not used to logging in, just waste your votes as before (I used to waste my votes a lot when I read books, haha). Thank you all so much! I'll keep working hard to write this book well.

On this day, Minhong Company's website was extremely popular, with many people still applying to be volunteers. Of course, the official wording of the website was still that it was recruiting part-time marketing supervisors.

Some volunteers who had already been approved arrived at the designated location—Yuanmou County in Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province—and posted their observations and experiences on their mobile phones, sparking even greater enthusiasm for disaster relief on the company's website. Major websites across the country also reposted the posts, making the topic of disaster relief even more heated.

Long Yihun and Gu Jicheng escorted the drinks in the truck and arrived in Yuanmou County at noon on the second day. The journey of about 1,100 kilometers took a full thirty hours. They encountered a minor problem on the way, which delayed them by more than five hours.

Volunteers across the country are the most admirable people. They disregard personal gain or loss, dedicating their love and strength, and embodying the fine qualities and noble spirit of the entire nation. More than 900 volunteers were approved in the initial screening, and the first batch of 855 volunteers arrived early in Yuanmou County to warmly welcome the transportation team led by Long Yihun and Gu Jicheng.

Du Tao, a member of the preparatory team, worked very efficiently, securing sponsorship for 200 fingerprint recognition devices in a short time. These devices were shipped directly from several major manufacturers to Yuanmou County, with the first batch of 50 already delivered by air. This allowed for on-site training and preliminary work for volunteers to begin. Only through the guidance of these experienced volunteers can the service reach all of Yunnan Province and ultimately serve the entire drought-stricken area.

Sheng Hong, the Party Secretary of Yuanmou County, personally oversaw the donation, distribution, and quota sales of Minhong drought-resistant functional beverages, with full cooperation from all levels of government agencies throughout the county. Of the first batch of 500,000 bottles of the beverages, 80% were distributed free of charge as donations, while the remaining 100,000 bottles were used as a pilot product for quota sales in the most severely affected areas.

All social relief efforts for disaster areas are carried out through free donations. Funds are collected from donors by various charitable organizations or foundations and then allocated to local governments at all levels in the disaster area as special funds. The local governments then distribute and use these funds according to the actual situation. Of course, these funds are also subject to review and supervision by specialized agencies and departments.

However, due to the large number of institutions and complex organizations, as well as the numerous and complex expenditure items in disaster relief work, such auditing and supervision cannot fully guarantee that the special funds are used for professional projects. Many major problems that have been exposed in past disaster relief work illustrate this point.

In some impoverished disaster-stricken areas, certain government agencies or departments have exploited loopholes in the application and management of disaster relief funds to misappropriate special disaster relief funds for other purposes, including purchasing luxury cars and other items solely for personal use. Most egregiously, some individuals have embezzled disaster relief funds for personal gain. These departments and individuals, once exposed, have been condemned by the entire nation and have received due punishment.

Due to insufficient management capacity, some grassroots organizations have caused chaos in the management of funds and projects, resulting in the duplicate application and disbursement of some disaster relief funds. Of course, this is not because those grassroots organizations and leaders are seeking personal gain; in many cases, disaster victims actually benefit. For example, disaster relief funds for each household are sometimes distributed repeatedly, multiplying the assistance received by disaster victims. However, this also prevents limited funds from helping a wider range of disaster victims, and these actions are also considered violations and errors.

The same applies to the distribution of socially donated disaster relief supplies to disaster victims. Various organizational, management, and operational issues exist. Although the overall relief effect is very good, inadequate management inevitably leads to some disaster victims receiving more help than others, while others receive very little or no help at all. These precious lives and the health of every disaster victim need to be protected to the greatest extent possible; therefore, the effective organization and management of disaster relief work is of paramount importance.

The non-governmental disaster relief organization led by Minhong Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., in its practical operation in cooperation with local governments and institutions in the disaster area, can be said to have set a precedent in China's disaster relief efforts. China lacks professional disaster relief non-governmental organizations, or rather, the non-governmental organizations that are nominally professional in some areas lack sufficient experience and management capabilities. This means that resources from all sectors of society cannot be used efficiently during each disaster, which is precisely what urgently needs to be addressed.

More than 800 volunteers, along with people who came from all over the country and even the world, joined the great drought relief work. They trekked to the most severely affected areas, where local government agencies organized and gathered all the disaster victims, recorded their identities and collected their fingerprints, and distributed drought relief drinks. These tasks were very hard on all the volunteers, but they were all happy to do them. The team's enthusiasm and initiative reached their peak.

Some volunteers, witnessing the dire situation of people suffering from water shortages and unclean drinking water, even gave up their daily rations of energy drinks to the disaster victims. This resulted in their health collapsing after working overtime for extended periods, with some volunteers even ending up in the hospital. This phenomenon greatly shocked the organizing committee.

Lin Yao immediately announced another major function of the drought-resistant functional beverage: besides adjusting the body's water metabolism to combat dehydration, it could also repair and improve various bodily functions. As a result, the preparatory team immediately implemented its first policy to constrain volunteers after the disaster relief work began: each volunteer must personally consume their assigned beverage quota, or they would be dismissed from their marketing supervisor position. After this policy was implemented, the high rate of health problems among volunteers was reduced to an extremely low level, and no one was hospitalized again.

Upon learning that this feature was not included in the approval report, Ye Zhaoxian convened a special meeting of the preparatory team who remained in Chengdu. Everyone expressed their deep respect for Minhong Pharmaceutical for giving up the huge profits that could have been obtained from a product with such miraculous effects, which made them even more enthusiastic and dedicated to their work.

It must be said that the operational model of third-party organizations handling disaster relief work for a single product is very advanced and efficient. Of course, volunteers with the most impartial stance and the most selfless character are indispensable. Only through these people who are completely free from any interests or selfish desires can the entire disaster relief work achieve fairness, impartiality, and the rational allocation of resources.

While some government officials and their staff may possess high moral character, regardless of their motives, they will still strive to secure greater benefits for the disaster victims in their jurisdictions. Humans are emotional beings, and their actions are influenced by feelings. The allocation of funds and the distribution of supplies involve interpersonal interactions and negotiations. Since every government official has a deeper connection to the local population, imperfections in the distribution of funds and supplies are inevitable, although this concept of perfection is defined from the perspective of all disaster victims.

You guys are amazing!!!

When I woke up, I was shocked to find that this book had been pushed to the number one spot on the urban fiction newcomer list, and it had also reached number three on the Qidian homepage list!

My nose is a little sore. Typing is hard work, especially for someone like me with a weak foundation. I am very touched that my efforts have been recognized and supported by everyone. Thank you so much!

I know my own limitations, and that's precisely why your understanding and care touch me so deeply. To be honest, I haven't slept well these past two days, trying my best to avoid checking the data on the homepage while simultaneously writing as much as possible. Only by continuing to strive and improve can I express my gratitude. Believe me, I will keep working hard!

My position on the homepage chart is now secured, so I'm no longer asking for recommendation votes. Please save your votes for good books and authors who need them. My book will be past its new release period tomorrow (the first chapter passed review on March 21st). There are authors who need recommendation votes more than I do, waiting for your support. Being on the homepage chart and receiving such a high honor for two whole days is enough for me. Thank you all!

That's all for now, I'll keep going!

The free distribution and paid quota sales of Minhong drought-resistant functional beverages are directly managed by grassroots government organizations. After volunteers collect the fingerprints of disaster victims to establish a complete database, they deliver printed distribution and sales forms to grassroots government liaisons every day or every few days. Of course, these forms are printed with the volunteers' own fingerprints beforehand.

Government staff distributed drinks based on forms. Each disaster victim had to put their fingerprint on the form when receiving the drink. Afterwards, these forms were collected by volunteers and sent to the service center in Chengdu. Female volunteers there conducted random checks to verify fingerprints, scanned and numbered each form, and sent it to the database developed by Liu Wei and his team. The database was then published online for donors to check and verify.

The Chinese people are not lacking in love or enthusiasm for helping their compatriots, but some negative news in the past has made them hesitate to express their love. So they want to help others but worry that their donations will not actually be used for the disaster victims. Such incidents of donations being misappropriated or even embezzled make them feel as uncomfortable as if they have swallowed a fly. Therefore, their acts of love are not proactive or enthusiastic, even though they have great regrets.
