Chapter 17

“We both need each other’s help now.” He curled his lips into a smirk. How could he, who always pretended to be gentle and harmless, smile so wickedly and arrogantly? “If you can make Pei Junwu fall in love with you and not fulfill his engagement with Xiao Juyuan, you will have done me a great favor. As for whether you can obtain his power… I will help you.”

She watched the rain, which made him fall in love with her and cause him to break off his engagement... How could Yi Chunjun say it so confidently?

Seeing her worry, he felt incredibly relaxed. "It's all about human effort. Others might not be able to do it, but Xiao Yuan, you can do it."

She turned and stared at him. "Aren't you afraid I'll expose your scheme?"

"My conspiracy? My conspiracy is to learn the Sky-Supporting Spell. It's a secret that Pei Junwu and I both know, but we just haven't said it out loud. If I help you seduce him and scheme against him, it won't cost me much if I tell you. At most, it'll make me look shameless." He looked at her and smiled. "Your losses are much greater than mine. I'm not afraid to tell you."

She sneered, her smile flawless; she couldn't find a single flaw in his plan. She knew he had bigger and more elaborate schemes, yet she couldn't fathom them. He didn't care that she saw another side of him, because she couldn't hinder him, and in fact, she needed him.

She smiled at him too, and he was slightly taken aback. He was a demon, and so was she. They were in the same boat.

Yes, she didn't need to know what he was trying to do; she couldn't care less. If he could help her stop Xiao Juyuan from obtaining Pei Junwu's power and...and heart, it wouldn't matter to her who was using whom.

Upon returning to Shuangjie Pavilion, I was immediately ushered into the main hall.

Seated at the head of the table was a burly man in his forties, dressed in fine clothes and exuding an air of nobility, yet still unable to conceal his rough and uncouth nature.

Pei Junwu and Xiao Juyuan stood below him, while Tuoba Yuanxun and Yan Minyu were too embarrassed to sit down and stood reluctantly to the side.

When Li Yuan'er and Yi Chunjun entered the hall, the dark and gloomy room, which had been shrouded in rain, seemed to light up. The burly man gaped, surprised, and stood up without realizing it, staring intently at Li Yuan'er and Yi Chunjun.

"Second Uncle..." Pei Junwu had to speak up to remind Gui Datong.

"Oh...oh." Gui Datong sat back down in his chair, still staring longingly at Yuan'er.

Yuan'er also looked at him; he must be Pei Fuchong's sworn brother, practically her uncle. His honest and unpretentious nature won her some favor. Her father's two sworn brothers were both straightforward and rough men.

"Second Uncle, let's talk about the details." Xiao Juyuan felt a little uncomfortable. Even someone as old as Uncle Gui was reacting this way when he saw Li Yuan'er!

"What's the situation? It's been like this since April, people have been coming to give my elder brother birthday gifts one after another. The closer it gets to his birthday, the more people come to give gifts. Now the front door of the house can't even be closed. Damn it, people come even in the middle of the night! Why weren't these bastards so filial in previous years?" Gui Datong spat.

Pei Junwu sneered, "This is forcing us to hold a grand birthday banquet."

Gui Datong said, brandishing his arms, "Hold a big party? It's not even a birthday celebration, what a load of crap!"

Yan Minyu and Tuoba Yuanxun couldn't help but laugh out loud. They never expected that Pei Shixiong's uncle would be like this.

"Second Uncle!" Xiao Juyuan looked at Gui Datong helplessly. He had lived a good life for half his life, but he was still the same.

"We'll deal with whatever comes our way, it's only a matter of time." Pei Junwu chuckled coldly. "For Father's forty-seventh birthday, we'll throw a grand celebration and make sure everyone who's supposed to come is here!"

"Great! Great!" Yan Minyu and Tuoba Yuanxun cheered with beaming smiles, "It's going to be very lively!"

Pei Junwu smiled wryly. It was indeed a blessing to be as innocent as they were.

“If we’re going to have a big celebration…” Yi Chunjun raised an eyebrow and smiled, “we can provide an entertainment program to let Sister Juyuan show her face. Now that Juyuan’s existence is no longer a secret, the title of the number one beauty in the martial arts world should be even more resounding.”

Pei Junwu glanced at him but didn't say anything, while Xiao Juyuan looked at him with great interest.

"Back then, Uncle Li became famous throughout the martial arts world with his Chrysanthemum Fairy Dance," Yi Chunjun said leisurely.

"That's right, that's right!" Gui Datong exclaimed excitedly, his face flushing as he recalled the grand occasion. "My third brother was completely captivated by Sister Li back then. That dance... even I, a rough old man, thought it was breathtakingly beautiful!"

“But…” Xiao Juyuan frowned, “I don’t know how.”

“I can.” Yi Chunjun smiled proudly. “That dance was created by my master. Senior Brother Pei, did Uncle Zhu teach you the Chrysanthemum Fairy Song?”

Pei Junwu nodded. "There's no need. Just hire more actors and singers." He didn't quite agree with Yi Chunjun's suggestion. Juyuan was already eye-catching enough. Why push her into the limelight again?

"Since everyone came here for Sister Juyuan, we can't let them down, right? Senior Brother Pei certainly doesn't want to show his face, but we have to think about Sister Juyuan."

Pei Junwu gave him a cold glance, then turned to look at Xiao Juyuan, "Yuan'er, what do you think?"

"I...I..." Xiao Juyuan's face turned slightly red, "I also want to be like Mother back then."

Yuan'er couldn't help but sneer again. Like her mother back then? Fine, she'd wait and see how she could possibly resemble her.

"Little girl, come here." Gui Datong shouted loudly and gruffly, and waved to her.

Yuan'er hesitated for a moment, standing still and looking at him.

"Come here, come here," Gui Datong continued to wave.

She walked over. What should she call him? As soon as she got close to him, Gui Datong grabbed her arm and roughly stroked her delicate face with his other hand.

He looked at her closely, and his eyes welled up with tears. "You little girl, you have a bit of Li Meimei's charm back then," he said sincerely.

Yuan'er looked at him in shock, not feeling that his touch was offensive.

"That's strange." Gui Datong glanced at Xiao Juyuan, whose face had changed, with his mouth agape. "Our own daughter doesn't look much like her parents."

"Let go, you old lecher!" Tuoba Yuanxun jumped up.

Gui Datong rolled his eyes at him. "Who are you calling an old lecher? Am I that old? I just think this young girl has a bit of my sister-in-law's vibe!" He then looked at Yuan'er sincerely. "Kid, from now on, you can call me Second Uncle too. I feel so close to you."

Yuan'er felt a lump in her throat, gritted her teeth, and held back her tears. Pei Junwu, Pei Junwu, you're not even as good as a roughneck!

"You lecher! You kissed Xiao Yuan just because he's good-looking, but do you think I would kiss you?" Tuoba Yuanxun rushed forward to grab his hand away.

Someone was faster than him. Pei Junwu raised his hand without making a sound, and a restrained force pressed over. Gui Datong felt his arm go sore and could only shake his hand away following the force.

Yuan'er was standing there when the suddenness of the event caused her to stumble back several steps with the force of the internal energy, only to be caught in a full embrace by Tuoba Yuanxun.

"Kid, are you this girl's man?" Gui Datong asked bluntly.

Tuoba Yuanxun wasn't ashamed at all, and glared at him defiantly, "Not yet, but sooner or later."
