I sneaked into the bedroom, opened the bedside table, and frantically rummaged through it, but couldn't find the box I was looking for. Suddenly, a voice boomed behind me: "What are you doing?!"
I turned my head and saw Yin Tianyu staring at me menacingly from behind.
"I'm looking for my ID card," I said matter-of-factly, without batting an eye. My eyes, however, still stubbornly scanned the area around the pillow.
"Give up, the box is right here." Yin Tianyu held up a box of condoms with a smug grin.
"How could you be so despicable?!" I was seething with hatred.
"Me, despicable? What are you holding in your hand?" Yin Tianyu gestured towards me with his chin.
Since I'd gone this far, I decided to go all the way and simply held up the large needle in my hand: "That's right, I'm holding a needle, so what? Who told you not to let me have a child? Don't you know how desperate I am for a son right now?"
"That's why I know I can't let you succeed. That guy is still nowhere to be seen and you've already been talking about him thirteen times a day. If I really took your heart and let him come into this world, would there still be a place for me on this bed in our house?"
"How could that be? Don't forget, all my money is in your hands. No matter what, I would never go against my own money." I said with a fawning smile.
"That's what you promised me back then. You said you'd give me your money as long as I didn't die. Besides, isn't my money still with you?"
"What do you mean 'your money'?! That's our money!"
"Okay, fine, here's our money! See, you get all excited when money's mentioned. Don't think I don't know you're always scheming to poke holes in your condoms."
"How can you blame me? You have so many relatives and friends. If we don't have children, people will question my fertility."
“It’s okay, darling, I’ve already scanned, enlarged, and printed out both of our medical examination reports, framed them, and hung them in the living room. That way, they can all shut up,” Yin Tianyu said in a very sinister manner.
"Didn't you promise me that after I finished this last phase of physical therapy and fully recovered, you would let me have a son? We've been married for three years, let's have one. At most, we'll have a daughter first so you can have some fun."
"I was in so much physical pain back then that I developed a mental illusion, so what I said doesn't count. Besides, I don't trust you either; you might do something like abandoning the monks after finishing your vegetarian meal." Ignoring my hurt expression, Yin Tianyu gave me a happy kiss and walked away. But he didn't know that in that brief moment, I had already stolen the box of condoms—a real lifesaver. Poor me, I spent over a month in Hero Square trying to befriend those kids to learn this skill.
I kissed the big needle in my hand affectionately, and I distinctly heard a cute, sweet voice calling "Mommy".
