Chapitre 31

Su Yuanyuan, you idiot! There's no such thing as love at first sight or being compatible. It's all just manipulation! He's just using you! If Su Tiantian were a girl, he'd probably be the one engaged to Qu Ling!

"Yuanyuan! Why are you drinking so fast? Drink slowly!" Dingding held my hand, looking at me with some concern.

"It's alright! Dingding, it's rare for us to get out and have a good drink, I'll keep you company today!" I pushed Dingding's hand away, tilted my head back, and another glass of ice-cold liquor slid down my throat. The liquor choked me, and I coughed so hard I just wanted to cry.

Dingding initially thought I was happy and drank a few glasses with me. But after I finished downed the two bottles of beer that had been ordered later, she started to panic.

"Yuanyuan, what's wrong with you? You can't drink like this just because you're happy! You can't hold your liquor, are you planning to cause a drunken scene on the street?" Dingding moved the bottle aside, determined not to let me touch it.

"Dingding, you...you tell me...am I really stupid, and easily fooled?" I asked, slurring my words as I held Dingding's hand.

"Who said that? Our Yuanyuan is very smart! She's a smart and kind girl!" Dingding patted my back and coaxed me.

"Hehe, yeah! I always thought I was pretty smart too!" I chuckled foolishly, nestled in Dingding's arms, my consciousness gradually blurring under the influence of alcohol. "Dingding, I... can I tell you a story?"

Dingding noticed that people around them were staring at them, and said with a pained expression, "My goodness, it seems you really are drunk, and you're starting to tell those stories again. Well, let's hurry home and stop affecting the city's appearance!"

"Ding... Ding, let me tell you a story about meatballs..." I mumbled as I snuggled into her arms.

"Waiter! Here's the bill!" Dingding hugged me tightly, afraid I'd cause a scene in the restaurant, and hurriedly paid the bill.

In a daze, Dingding dragged me into a taxi. I grabbed Dingding's collar and said, "Once upon a time... there was a meatball. She thought that apart from being a little fat, she was basically... without any flaws. Her family... everyone said she was smart, so she... thought she was very smart, very... very good at discerning right from wrong and seeing through people's good and bad qualities."

"Yuanyuan, what are you talking about? Is this meatball just you?"

I ignored her and continued, "One day, Meatball... met a conch that looked particularly gentle. She admired that conch very much, and just one glance at it from afar made her feel... happy."

"One day, the conch shell gently told Meatball that he was actually a crab, and that he only lived under the gentle shell of the conch shell. In fact, he had very sharp pincers, and often... often pinched people until they were covered in wounds. But silly Meatball told him that no matter whether he was... a conch shell... or a crab... she still admired him."

"That silly... Meatball thought that the crab's big claws were just... decorations, occasionally waved to scare people... nothing more. She never expected... never expected that in the end she would find that those big claws... had already pinched her in half."

"Ding...Dingding, do you think that meatball is really silly?"

"Yuanyuan..." Dingding said, touching my forehead, "You've really drunk too much; you're starting to talk nonsense."

When the car pulled up in front of my apartment complex, Dingding wanted to walk me inside, but I refused. I told her I'd call her dad to pick me up soon so she could go home early. Dingding wouldn't listen and insisted on getting out of the car to wait with me. I jumped out, slammed the door shut, and told the driver to hurry up and drive off. The driver, not wanting to wait anyway, stepped on the gas and drove Dingding away.

Perhaps it was because of the cold weather, but even though it was only 10 p.m., there were very few people in the neighborhood. Occasionally one or two people would pass by, but they were all walking quickly.

The smell of alcohol, forced by the cold wind, warmed my heart. A chill ran through me, but my body trembled involuntarily.

The ringtone of my phone, "Happiness Bubbles," started playing again in my pocket. The tinkling sound, which usually sounds sweet, now felt like nails, hammering into my heart.

Tears streamed silently down her face.

How can someone act so realistically even when it's fake? Such affectionate eyes, such genuine expression of liking someone.

I was just a pawn; he didn't need to waste all his acting skills on me. Someone as naive as me, even if he didn't say anything, just a flick of his finger, how could I not be led by the nose?

Why bother? Saying such emotional things, knowing full well that it will be exposed sooner or later, only makes me feel more ridiculous and embarrassed.

Looking back carefully, this engagement was originally just a clumsy farce.

No wonder Grandpa always avoided the Qu family; they were just too cunning and terrifying. Not only were they good at acting, but they were also adept at manipulating people's hearts. Was playing with people's hearts a pleasure they enjoyed?

In the end, the Su family was still tricked by the Qu family.

The wedding that the family had been so eagerly anticipating turned out to be a battleground in a power struggle.

My third uncle is the most perceptive; he did point this out to me before.

Even someone as troublesome as him would willingly serve Qu Ling in the end, all because of me.

It was my own stupidity that led me to confidently claim that I understood, making my third uncle believe that I knew all the inside information.

The bell of the happiness bubble kept ringing in my pocket.

I don't cut it off, I just don't accept it. I deliberately let the pain pierce my heart, as if only in this way can I feel some relief.

Even as I approached my doorstep, my phone was still ringing.

I was groping in my bag for my keys when I suddenly realized a shadow had fallen over my head.

Suddenly, I looked up and saw Qu Ling standing in front of me, holding the phone.

Author's Note: I am a flying bird

Yuanyuan is a bit depressed in this chapter. If you feel a little down while reading it, just think of the happy little fish who is on her honeymoon outside of this chapter! Our dear little fish was thinking of writing a few more words for everyone the day before her wedding, which touched me deeply, and I believe you all felt the same way.

Let us all wish our dear little fish: sweetness and happiness, in this life and the next!

(Another chapter will be updated next Wednesday)

Confused Yuanyuan

"Yuanyuan, why aren't you answering the phone?" Qu Ling was walking very close to me; I could hear her breathing.

Caught off guard by seeing Qu Ling, his mind went blank as if he'd been hit by a sledgehammer. He was filled with a mix of confusion and anger, but remained silent, head bowed.

"What's wrong?" He seemed to smell alcohol on his breath and frowned. "Yuanyuan, have you been drinking?"

"Hmm," I mumbled in response, taking a step back to increase the distance between us.

"Who are you having such a good time eating with? You even drank alcohol. Your face is so red, and your breath is hot. Let me see if you have a fever."

As Qu Ling spoke, he reached out to touch my forehead. I reflexively turned my head away, and his hand touched nothing.

Qu Ling's hand froze in mid-air for a long while before slowly retracting it. "Yuanyuan, what's wrong? Are you unhappy today?"

I turned my head to look at the river in the distance. The cold wind made my head ache, but I was mostly sober.

"Dean, let's call off that marriage." I said to Qu Ling, word by word. "Let's leave it at that."
