Глава 51

A smile, however, slowly spilled from the corners of her lips.

Actually, I think it feels better when we're not arguing, right?

--

Huangfu Mi would not let her leave easily, but he did not stop her too much. He simply followed her out of Changyin Pavilion.

The weather is still quite cold. Even though it's springtime after the Lunar New Year, the weather is still unpredictable, with sudden changes in temperature.

Because Meng Wan had injured her leg earlier, although she could walk now, she wasn't very free. Huangfu Mi deliberately slowed down to accommodate her, walking at a leisurely pace. For a moment, neither of them spoke.

He didn't know how long he walked, but he stopped at a corner not far from the Prime Minister's residence. He turned around and glanced at Meng Wan, who was following him at a distance. He said, "By the way, I forgot to ask you. That day, when you asked me to come over, was there something you wanted to discuss?"

"Huh?" Meng Wan was walking intently, stepping on his shadow with each step, when she suddenly heard him speak to her, and she abruptly looked up.

It was already evening, and there weren't many people on the street. The setting sun quietly dyed half the sky red, and out of the corner of my eye, Meng Wan slightly raised her chin, her fair cheeks inexplicably tinged with a yellowish hue.

Huangfu Mi was stunned, his gaze fixed on her face, unable to look away.

Meng Wan frowned slightly, took two quick steps forward, and waved her hand in front of his eyes: "What did you just say?"

Huangfu Mi then came to his senses, realizing his lapse in composure. He coughed lightly to cover it up, and once he had calmed down, he said, "I was just asking if there was anything I needed when you asked me to come over that day."

"Oh, it's nothing, it's just that Huangfuqian came to see me that day."

Meng Wan reluctantly withdrew her hands, crossed them in front of her chest and fiddled with them, saying something casually.

Huangfu Mi frowned: "Huangfu Qian came to see you? What for?"

"You only think of asking now? How come you forgot everything when you were arguing that day?" Meng Wan muttered under her breath, but it was just a way of venting her feelings about that day. After saying that, she said seriously, "He thought you had already told me what he did, so he came to declare war on me."

"Declare war?" Huangfu Mi raised an eyebrow. "So, you already know that he framed you?"

"Yes, I'm not stupid. Even if he didn't say it, I would suspect it was related to him. What's more, he even gloated about it. I fell into his trap, and you are helpless against him."

"That guy..."

Huangfu Mi cursed under her breath, almost able to recall Huangfu Qian's face, and couldn't help but feel disgusted from the bottom of her heart.

but...

"I'm more curious about why he's targeting you like this. Wasn't he very attentive to you before? Also, you seem hostile towards him. Is there some kind of grudge between you?"

That hits the nail on the head: "It's not just hatred, it's irreconcilable enmity!"

Meng Wan clenched her fists, speaking through gritted teeth, her delicate eyebrows furrowed tightly, her gaze long and deep.

This expression startled Huangfu Mi, and he couldn't help but take another look at her: "Are you irreconcilable enemies?"

"Yes." Meng Wan nodded, her expression unchanged.

Huangfu Mi grew increasingly puzzled, his dark eyes fixed on her, expecting her to explain. But she remained silent for a long time, standing tall in the shadows, like an unsolvable mystery.

He subtly raised his eyebrows.

"In that case, go back and rest. You must be tired after a long day."

His suddenly gentle tone finally pulled Meng Wan back to reality. Looking at the faint smile on his lips, she realized that he was even more beautiful than a woman. The fierceness in her eyes suddenly disappeared, and she couldn't help but smile as well.

"good."

After saying that, he turned to leave, but after only two steps, he was called back.

She thought he would finally be unable to resist asking her what she meant by what he had just said, but to her surprise, he simply reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, and said in a low but firm voice, "Remember my words, don't get close to other men casually."

Meng Wan was clearly taken aback for a moment, then her face turned red.

She felt both embarrassed and secretly astonished. He didn't ask her anything, just like many times before. But even if he did ask, the entanglement between her and Huangfu Qian in their past and present lives couldn't be explained in a few words. Besides, she didn't want to talk about it.

However, it was probably his personality that made her feel no pressure, and even willing to... confide in him.

To open one's heart to another.

Thinking of that word, her heart trembled, and the smile on her lips softened even more.

Huangfu Mi watched her figure from beginning to end. Only after she disappeared at the gate of the Prime Minister's residence did he put away his smile and put on a solemn expression.

He knew she had a secret, he had always known, but he didn't ask, because he believed that one day she would tell him on her own initiative, just like before, when she knew his identity but didn't ask, she just waited for him to tell her himself.

Even though he didn't say it in the end, it was enough to prove the mutual trust between the two.

It was precisely this trust that gave rise to a thought in his mind—to help her do what she wanted to do!

Thinking of this, his eyes darkened even more. He glanced again in the direction of the Prime Minister's residence before turning around and leaving without looking back.

--

Meng Wan returned home with a smile on her face, in a great mood.

Looking up at the sky, the mansion, bathed in twilight, shone as brightly as Mount Tai. In the vast expanse, a gentle breeze swayed the branches of the trees in the courtyard, making them appear even more upright under the glow of the sunset. The swaying leaves, dappled with the last rays of the setting sun, fell one by one onto the treetops.

Such a beautiful scene perfectly matched her mood, making her extremely happy.

Huan Yan easily noticed this mood. "Miss, is something good happening today? You seem to be in a good mood."

It wasn't that this girl was perceptive, but rather that her emotions had changed too drastically. The gloomy expression on her young mistress's face just two days ago was quite different from the clear and bright sky she had today.
