Kapitel 69

Ye Cang woke up early the next morning.

He went through so much yesterday, and he thought the incident with the sasaeng fans would give him nightmares, but he fell asleep without any dreams and went straight to dawn.

He couldn't help but glance at the bed next door, and to his surprise, Shen Huai was still asleep.

Ye Cang took out his phone to check the time, then got up and dressed. He originally wanted to wash up, but then, for some reason, he got out of bed and tiptoed to Shen Huai's bedside.

Shen Huai was sleeping in a good position, with his hands neatly folded on the blanket, and he was breathing evenly and slowly.

Her black hair was scattered on both sides of her forehead, her brow bones were high, casting a light shadow on her deep-set eyes, her long and thick eyelashes obediently rested on her eyelids, and the corners of her mouth, relaxed as she slept, were slightly upturned, making her look so adorable that it made one's heart itch.

Ye Cang reached out, wanting to touch the corner of his mouth, but Shen Huai suddenly opened his eyes.

Ye Cang's hand froze instantly.

Shen Huai squinted at the person in front of him, his voice slightly nasal from just waking up: "What are you doing?"

Ye Cang quickly withdrew his hand and said casually, "I was just about to wake you up... I'm going to wash up first."

Shen Huai was skeptical, but when he saw Ye Cang, the scene from yesterday kept replaying in his mind, and he could only look away unnaturally.

Ye Cang, feeling guilty, dared not look at Shen Huai.

With each of them preoccupied with their own thoughts, the morning passed peacefully.

After washing up and having breakfast, the two hurriedly went to the hospital. Knowing that the girl was out of danger and had been transferred to a regular ward early this morning, the two headed towards the regular ward.

However, before they even reached the ward, they heard arguing coming from inside. Somewhat worried, the two quickened their pace.

-

Inside the ward, a pale-skinned girl sat on the hospital bed, her expression indifferent and calm. Opposite her stood a couple who were hurling insults at her.

The police officer standing nearby, looking embarrassed, kept advising, "Mr. and Mrs. Chu, the child has just woken up and is still very weak. You can discipline her later if she does anything wrong. Let her rest now."

The police were also helpless. Yesterday, they arrived at the crime scene and found a bag by the river. From the girl's belongings, they discovered that her name was Chuchu, and she had just graduated from high school. They didn't know why she wanted to jump into the river to commit suicide. They tried to contact her parents last night, but only managed to get in touch this morning. They also learned from the hospital that Chuchu was out of danger, so they came to the hospital with them. However, as soon as they entered, before they could even exchange a few words, the couple started swearing at them.

The police were worried about upsetting the girl, so they could only try their best to persuade her. On the contrary, the girl didn't seem like she wanted to commit suicide at all; she was very calm.

When Ye Cang and Shen Huai knocked on the door and came in, the police officers felt like they had seen saviors.

"Mr. Chu, these two gentlemen are the ones who saved Chu Chu."

Mr. Chu turned to look at the two of them and said impatiently, "Is that so? I'll have my secretary transfer some money to you as a reward, and also as hush money. For the sake of Chu Chu's reputation, please don't spread this matter."

Shen Huai frowned, not because of the man's arrogant tone, but because his daughter had just had an accident and was on the verge of death, yet he showed no concern for her health and instead cared about things as superficial as reputation.

After Mr. Chu finished speaking, he turned to Chu Chu and said, "I won't hold it against you for doing something so disgraceful to the family. After you're discharged from the hospital, just stay home and don't cause any more trouble!"

Chu Chu said calmly, "Go back and be married off to a forty-year-old man, as a tool for a political marriage?"

Upon hearing her words, Mr. Chu flew into a rage: "What nonsense are you spouting! You have poor grades, no talent, and you won't even get into university. I'm only letting you get married early because I'm thinking about your future!"

Chu Chu: "You can even talk about selling your daughter for personal gain in such a high-sounding way. I really underestimated you."

Mr. Chu: "You bastard!"

He was furious and reached out to hit Chu Chu, but she looked up and stared at him with a cold gaze that made Mr. Chu feel a chill and he couldn't bring himself to swing his hand.

The police took the opportunity to stop him: "Let's talk this out, don't resort to violence."

Mr. Chu snapped out of his daze, his anger escalating: "You scoundrel! I provide you with food and clothing! Is this how you repay me?!"

"No, I don't think so." Chu Chu smiled faintly. "I own 50% of your company's shares. I receive my own dividends, so why would I need you to provide for me?"

Upon hearing this, Mr. Chu reacted as if a sore spot had been touched, and angrily retorted, "What do you mean by that?"

Chu Chu said calmly, "It doesn't mean anything. This company originally belonged to my mother. After you married her, you kept a mistress and caused her death..."

Mr. Chu was so angry he jumped up and down: "What nonsense are you talking about! Your mother died of illness!!"

Chu Chu: "Okay, after you and your mistress made her so angry that she died of illness..."

Mr. Chu: "Damn it! She died of breast cancer! Who upset her?!"

Chu Chu asked doubtfully, "That's how it's always portrayed on TV, isn't it? Okay, so it's you and the other woman..."

Mr. Chu flew into a rage: "There was no mistress! I only met your Aunt Wu after your mother passed away!!"

The woman beside her covered her face and said, "Chuchu, I know you've always hated me, but you can't make up such rumors just because you hate me..."

Chu Chu: "Ms. Wu, when you cry, you should furrow your brows a little more and make your eyes a little redder. It would be even better if you could shed a couple of tears. The way you are now, your acting is too unprofessional."

Mrs. Chu: "..."

Mr. Chu was so angry he was speechless. Pointing a trembling finger at Chu Chu, he said, "Fine, fine, you think you're all grown up now? I can't control you anymore! You can forget about getting a single penny from me again!!"

Mrs. Chu quickly advised, "Chuchu, don't argue with your father, quickly admit your mistake..."

Chu Chu asked curiously, "I didn't do anything wrong, why should I admit it?"

Mr. Chu was furious and shoved Mrs. Chu's hand away: "Why are you still trying to persuade her! Go back! I'll pretend I never had this bastard child!!"

Chu Chu: "Wait a minute."

Mr. Chu assumed that Chu Chu was frightened by his words and wanted to apologize, so he turned around and sneered, "You know you're wrong? As long as you listen to me from now on..."

Chu Chu showed no intention of admitting her mistake, but asked seriously, "What you just said means you want to sever our father-daughter relationship?"
