Gier (eines der drei Gifte) - Kapitel 18

Kapitel 18

Su Yang let go of her hand, turned around without looking back, and practically ran downstairs. Once outside, he didn't dare look up. He knew Zhao Lirui was watching him from the stairwell. He was afraid her sadness would overwhelm him, leaving him with no strength left to open the door to 602. He could only repeat in his heart a thousand times, "Lirui, I will never let you down, I will never let you down..."

602 Man-Eating Apartment Twenty (1) new

They soon arrived at the gate of Building 6. Su Yang took out his keys and glanced at his watch. He was immediately startled; the hands clearly pointed to 12:50. In that instant, a thousand thoughts raced through Su Yang's mind, finally settling on one question: To go in or not to go in?

But Su Yang's brain had almost no say in the matter; his fingers, as if compelled, inserted the key into the lock, turned it, and opened the iron gate.

The crisp sound of the iron gate opening jolted Su Yang out of his daze. It seemed he was now in a bind.

"I'll be alright," Su Yang murmured to himself, but he clearly felt the weight of his steps, as if he were walking to the execution ground. "Why do I feel this way?" Su Yang pondered, "Could it be due to Li Rui's emotions?"

602 arrived quickly. Su Yang stood at the door, staring at the bloodless "囍" (double happiness) character on the door, feeling completely lost. "What am I doing? What am I supposed to do? Open the door and then take a nap?" He vaguely felt that something was wrong, but he couldn't quite put his finger on what was wrong. It seemed as if some unseen voice was calling to him, or even forcing him, to come back to 602.

Su Yang sighed. Whether it's a blessing or a curse, it's all fate, and there's no escaping it. Thinking of this, he calmed down, took out his key, and opened the door.

As soon as he opened the door, a musty smell hit him. Su Yang frowned. When he and Zhao Lirui came over in the evening, there didn't seem to be such a strong musty smell. Could it be that in just a few hours, the world inside had gone through centuries, and everything had begun to decay and rot?

Su Yang turned on the emergency light, but the light only covered a space of about one and a half meters around him. Further away, the light was diluted by the darkness, and the outlines of objects were almost invisible.

Su Yang, holding an emergency light, looked around. Everything seemed the same as when he last visited, except that the dust appeared to be thicker. He walked towards the window, and after only two steps, a gleaming white object on the speaker caught his eye. When Zhu Shengshi sold the house to Zhao Lixu and his wife, he also sold all the furniture and appliances. The Zhao couple later resold the furniture, but they kept the television and speaker—of course, the Zhao couple were unaware that the speaker had once contained the dismembered and dried body of the previous owner. Zhu Shengshi had only vaguely told them that Zhu Su had died an unnatural death in the house, resolutely refusing to reveal any further details. Zhao Lixu, mindful of the auspiciousness of their newlywed bliss, hadn't pressed for more information. Otherwise, if they had heard the true gruesome details of Zhu Su's death, they might not have had the courage to buy the house, thus escaping the disaster.

Although Su Yang was the first to discover and unearth Zhu Su's body hidden inside the speaker, he was sleepwalking at the time and didn't remember any details afterward; otherwise, he wouldn't have had the courage to approach the speaker again. Even so, when he saw what the white object on the speaker was, he was so startled he almost threw the emergency light away—it was a skeleton!

Fortunately, he had dealt with the skeleton several times before at Zhu Su's hometown and Zhang Chengtin's house, so he quickly calmed down, raised the lamp to level with the speaker, walked to the front of the skeleton, and examined it closely. He quickly recognized that this should be Zhang Chengtin's head, because there were obvious fracture marks on its upper jaw, marks left when he forcefully pried the skeleton's teeth off Zhao Lirui's fingers.

Su Yang's heart skipped a beat. The skull must have been brought back by the black cat, which at least proved that a significant portion of what happened in Zhang Chengting's room was real, not an illusion. This almost confirmed that the black cat had taken all four heads, and even the repeated appearances of Zhu Su's head at his bedside, as recorded in Zhang Chengting's diary, might also be the black cat's "masterpiece." But who exactly was this black cat, and why did it possess such strange spiritual powers? Furthermore, was it friend or foe? Initially, the black cat was undoubtedly hostile towards him, especially when Su Yang broke into 602 alone; it even used rats to "intimidate" him. However, in the days that followed, the black cat helped him several times. When Su Yang encountered obstacles during hypnosis, its meow outside the window saved him from a mental breakdown. At Zhang Chengting's house, it was its meow that pulled Su Yang back from the brink of death. And again at Zhang Chengting's house, if it hadn't appeared in time, Zhao Lirui's fingers would have been "fed" to the skull before her.

A multitude of questions churned in Su Yang's mind, yet he couldn't find a single answer. Su Yang knew that perhaps these questions would never be answered, because no matter how supernatural the black cat was, it couldn't communicate with humans, and its owner—Zhu Su—had already died a violent death. However, Su Yang was more inclined to believe that the black cat was a spirit summoned back by Zhu Su, and its sole purpose was to protect Zhu Su. In fact, it had largely fulfilled its mission: it helped Zhu Su seize ownership of the house from Zhu Shengshi; it eyed Zhang Chengting, who harbored ulterior motives; and after Zhang Chengting killed Zhu Su, it repeatedly retrieved Zhu Su's head from the wilderness and placed it on his bedside, driving Zhang Chengting to the brink of collapse; the deaths of Chen Lijuan and Zhao Lixu were clearly related to it, and Lu Xiao's death and Huang Kun's serious injury could even be attributed to it. Only towards Su Yang did it show a change from hostility to closeness. Thinking about this, Su Yang couldn't help but have some understanding: This is really too much like a woman's mentality. Could it be that Zhu Su really left behind her spiritual energy in this room after her death, and most of that energy was projected onto the black cat, or was it because the black cat had been following Zhu Su for a long time and was tainted by her strange abilities?

Thinking of this, Su Yang suddenly longed to see the black cat. He searched the living room with a lamp, but couldn't find it. He went to the kitchen and saw that the window latch was detached, indicating that the black cat must have brought the skeleton in and then left.

Su Yang was slightly disappointed, but also relieved. Although the black cat didn't seem to have any ill intentions towards him, he was still a little uneasy about spending a night with a strange cat that seemed to be able to see through people's hearts and even control their lives.

602 Man-Eating Apartment Twenty (2) new

Su Yang returned to the living room and opened all the windows. A cool breeze blew in, rustling the curtains and dissipating much of the stale air. Su Yang clapped his hands in satisfaction, but then realized another problem. He had only considered spending the night in 602, without thinking about how he would spend it. Sleeping in the bedroom like last time would undoubtedly be the most obvious choice, but after being so frightened in the dark that he wet himself, and remembering how Zhao Lixu and his wife had both died on that bed, he simply didn't have the courage to lie down again. Therefore, the best option was to spend the night on the sofa in the living room!

To spend the night in the living room, the first thing to do was to dispose of Zhang Chengting's head. Otherwise, if he actually fell asleep, the first thing he would see upon waking up was a skull with empty eye sockets staring at him—it would either scare him into a fright or give him a cold sweat. Su Yang rummaged through the drawers and cabinets in the living room and found a plastic bag. He put it on his hand, suppressed his nausea and fear, grabbed the skull, threw it into the toilet, closed the toilet lid, and shut the door.

Su Yang dusted off the sofa in the living room, lay down fully clothed, stared at the ceiling, and resolved to stay awake until dawn before leaving, determined never to set foot in 602 again. He silently prayed: "Zhu Su, I've done everything I could for you. Whatever grievances you may have in the future, please don't come looking for me. For the sake of all I've done for you, let me live out the rest of my life in peace."

About an hour passed, the emergency light flashed once, and then dimmed noticeably. Su Yang knew the battery was almost completely depleted, and he felt a pang of frustration. If he had known it would only last this long, he would have bought two more; now he was facing darkness again. He leaned forward and looked around, a sense of dread creeping into his heart.

Suddenly, Su Yang remembered that he had two candles with him. He quickly took them out, but as soon as he lit them, the wind blowing in through the window extinguished them. Frustrated, Su Yang simply gave up on the light and plunged himself into complete darkness, clutching only the flashlight in his hand, ready to use a ray of light to give himself courage and strength in case of any unexpected events.

While darkness impairs the eyes, it heightens the sensitivity of the soul. Lying on the sofa, Su Yang felt as if he were floating on the surface of the Dead Sea, rising and falling with the gentle ripples. Weariness crept in, yet his nerves remained constantly on edge, alert to any movement around him. His heart, too, was tethered to his nerve endings, trembling violently at the slightest disturbance. The prolonged stillness left his taut nerves exhausted, leaving Su Yang with the unbearable feeling of being suspended in mid-air, awaiting the cruel whip of torture.

Su Yang decided to change the subject and began to carefully analyze his interactions with Zhu Su to distract himself. The online dating was likely Zhang Chengtin's doing; Chen Lijuan's murder was also Zhang Chengtin's doing, but the transfer of the severed head from the civilian house to his own and then to Zhang Chengtin's house was Black Cat's doing; the deaths of Old Chen and many other police officers were either purely accidental, like Xiao Zhang's or the two police officers' car accident, or they died from deep-seated fears, like Old Chen. After all, after so many years as a police officer, everyone carries some shadow of guilt, and Zhu Su's power lay in amplifying these shadows to a degree beyond their capacity; only his journey to Qinglan Town remained a constant source of unease for Su Yang. It's unfathomable. Perhaps that was the full manifestation of Zhu Su's power, that she had planted instructions in his subconscious, and he was merely an executor of a puppet. Meeting Zhu Su's grandmother at her old home was the closest he had ever come to a ghost. Su Yang could only attribute it to the fact that he hadn't woken up after fainting at that time, and all his subsequent experiences were the work of Zhu Su's grandmother intruding into his dreams. After returning to Guangzhou, it seems that apart from the mysterious opening of the door when he first returned to 602 and the puzzling knocking of the man in black at the small hotel, the other strange events had basically been answered with the help of Zhao Lirui. However, now it seems that the one who opened 602 was most likely the black cat. Since it can open and close windows freely, opening doors is not surprising. Only its ability to know people's whereabouts makes Su Yang a little apprehensive. As for the appearance of the man in black, it is either a paranormal event, a shared hallucination between Su Yang and the two security guards, or someone has hacked into the computer in the monitoring room and inserted footage of the man in black. For Su Yang, if Zhang Chengting were still alive, he would completely believe the conclusion of a hacker intrusion, because he felt that with Zhang Chengting's expertise in computers, doing this would not have been a problem; but the problem is that Zhang Chengting is dead, so who would have the ability and interest to do this? Unless... Zhang Chengting, like Zhu Su, possessed energy after death!

Su Yang groaned. Why did everyone who got involved with Zhu Su become so mysterious and abnormal? But he was even worse off; not only did he not gain those mysterious powers, but he'd become neurotic instead. He sighed, rolled over, and suddenly saw a dark shadow on the floor lunging at him, baring its fangs. Startled, he scrambled to his feet, grabbed his flashlight, and swung it at the shadow, shouting, "Who's there?"

The flashlight beam tore through the lines of the shadow, and Su Yang found, to his amusement and dismay, that the so-called shadow was just the reflection of the tree shadow outside the window onto the floor, cast by the streetlight. Because of the wind, the tree shadow danced along with it, and its shape and posture looked remarkably like a vicious person.

He lay back down, his heart still pounding from the shock. "Human fear is truly hidden so deeply," Su Yang sighed inwardly. "It's so easy to scare yourself to death." But in an instant, as if a giant chisel had pierced through the chaos of his brain, a flash of inspiration struck: Could the man in black in the small hotel be just a reflection like the shadow of a tree? Could it be that the figure of someone outside, through some strange refraction and reflection of light, was projected onto his doorstep, like the principle of a mirage? Su Yang was immediately excited by his new discovery. Although he felt the probability of such a miracle was extremely low, like a drowning person grasping at a straw, Su Yang, trapped in fear, only needed a reason to reassure himself, to rid himself of the thought of ghosts.

602 Man-Eating Apartment Twenty (3) new

Satisfied, Su Yang rolled over again, adjusting himself to a more comfortable position. He further deduced that if the man in black was truly a phantom, then the map in the room might not have been "stolen," but rather blown out the window by the wind. As for the bed and slippers, they were most likely a result of his sleepwalking. Su Yang was quite convinced of his sleepwalking ability, as the incident in room 605 where he almost killed Old Chen while sleepwalking was still vivid in his memory. The only thing that remained was the knocking and breathing sound. Was it truly a hallucination, or did he possess exceptionally delicate and sensitive nerves, able to hear sounds inaudible to ordinary people and influenced by external forces? He couldn't understand it.

Su Yang felt his thoughts race, and another question popped into his head: Judging from his encounters with Zhu Su and her grandmother, they both seemed to possess some special ability—they could easily intrude into other people's consciousness. And from Liu Changge's account, it seemed Zhu Su's mother also possessed the same power; for example, she could "appear" after death to threaten Zhu Shengshi not to harm Zhu Su anymore. Even Zhu Su's child was particularly strange, like a child who had remained uncorrupted for a long time while submerged in a well. Were they God's favored children, or were they evil people cursed by the devil?

The most suitable person to confirm this suspicion was probably Liu Changge. Su Yang perked up and took out his phone. Looking at the time, it was already 2:30 AM. He hesitated, wondering if calling so late would be too intrusive. But his desire to know the truth overcame his politeness, and he found Liu Changge's home phone number in his contacts and dialed it.

The call was answered quickly. Su Yang was puzzled. Since there was almost no entertainment in the small town, everyone usually went to bed early. Why was Liu Changge still awake under the lamp so late?

But it wasn't Liu Changge's voice that came through the phone, but a woman's voice, hoarse and sounding like a small saw tugging at Su Yang's nerves in the dead of night, "Who are you looking for?"

Su Yang coughed lightly, trying to soften his voice as much as possible: "Excuse me for bothering you, but I'd like to look for Liu Changge?"

"Who are you?" The other person seemed to be immersed in some kind of bad mood, speaking quickly and abruptly.

Su Yang felt an urge to hang up, but remembering his purpose, he suppressed his anger. "I'm Zhang Chengting, Liu Changge's former colleague. Could you please transfer me to him? I need to speak with him urgently."

"Pah, pah, pah, if you want to find him, go find him in the underworld, don't drag me into this." The woman slammed down the phone after saying that.

For a moment, Su Yang forgot his anger at the woman's rudeness, completely immersed in the shock of the news she told him on the phone: "Liu Changge is dead." This news struck him like a bolt from the blue, leaving him utterly stunned. His hands trembled as he pressed the redial button on his phone. "Hello, sister-in-law, could you tell me how Liu Changge died?"

"How did he die?" The woman unleashed all her anger and resentment. "How dare you ask me that? If you hadn't brought him into the Zhu family's house, if you hadn't dug out that freak from the well on your own, how could Changge have died, and how could he have died so tragically! You...you...you are the murderer who killed Changge! Give me back my man, you damned bastard, why aren't you dead... Waaah..."

Su Yang put down his phone helplessly. He didn't even have the strength to comfort Liu Changge's wife. He felt as if he were falling from an ice peak, light and airy, never to reach the bottom, but the cold was getting stronger and stronger, almost freezing the blood in his body.

“Liu Changge is dead, killed by my stubbornness.” Su Yang trembled uncontrollably. He felt himself sinking into a deeper abyss of fear. “Could it be that Zhu Su’s curse isn’t just in Room 602, but also extends to all the places where she harbored resentment?”

Fear forced cold sweat to drip from his pores, forming a thin, icy stream that snaked across his body like a small snake, making every hair on his body stand on end.

Su Yang, trembling, pulled the bottle of cola from the bag Zhao Lirui had given him. He twisted it several times, struggling to overcome the slippery sweat on his palms, before finally managing to open it and take two large gulps. The cola bubbles gently rose in his mouth and stomach, like tiny hands massaging him. Su Yang's tension eased slightly.

He took another big gulp of cola, wiped his lips, took out his phone, found the former factory manager's number, and dialed it.

After waiting for about half a minute, an impatient voice came from the other end of the phone, as if someone had been dragged out of their sleep in the middle of the night: "Who is it? Who are you looking for?"

Su Yang didn't bother to apologize to the factory manager for disturbing the peace late at night; he simply said, "I am Zhang Chengting."

"Huh? You, Zhang Chengtin?" The factory manager seemed to wake up suddenly as well, Su Yang heard him sit up, "What are you doing calling me in the middle of the night?"

"I want to know how Liu Changge died?" Su Yang cut straight to the point.

"How did you know about this?" the factory manager asked in surprise.

"Don't ask me how I know, just tell me what you know."

“Well… alright, I’ll tell you. The day before yesterday evening, the people from the town’s police station came looking for Liu Changge, wanting to know more about the details of how you broke into the Zhu family’s house together. As a result, on the way back to the police station from Liu Changge’s house, the car overturned for no reason. Liu Changge hit his head and had a big hole. He was sent to the hospital but couldn’t be saved.”

Su Yang's heart clenched. He felt a gnashing hatred, and even more so, a deep-seated fear. "How many people were in the car at the time? Was Liu Changge the only one who died?"

"There were two policemen, but only the driver survived, though he was quite frightened." The factory manager seemed to realize he had let something slip and quickly stopped himself.

"He was terribly frightened? Did he see something?" Su Yang pressed on relentlessly. Although he was afraid to hear the answer, not hearing it would drive him crazy.

The factory manager stammered, "Perhaps the driver was too frightened and was talking nonsense. He said that when he was driving, he suddenly saw a woman with disheveled hair and a bloody face standing in the middle of the road, so he turned the steering wheel sharply, and the wheels slipped and the car overturned. But as you know, this kind of story is not credible."

602 Man-Eating Apartment Twenty (4) new

"Did he also say that the woman was wearing all white and looked like Zhu Su?"

"How...how did you know?"

Su Yang's palms were sweaty, and his bones creaked, whether from grief or fear. He took a deep breath to calm himself. "What are the people in town saying? Do they think their deaths are the result of my breaking into the Zhu family and retrieving that baby?"

"Well... you know, people here are quite superstitious. Just don't take these rumors to heart," the factory manager said awkwardly.

"Alright then. But I'd like to ask you one last question: Did Zhu Su ever display any special powers, like supernatural abilities, in your area?"

"Huh?" The factory manager was clearly not expected Su Yang to ask such a question, and his speech became even more unclear. "Well... I'm not really sure either. You know, my main focus is on the work at the factory, I don't have time to deal with these things. Besides, Zhu Su and her family are not related to me at all, I don't know them at all."

Su Yang sneered, "How could you not know them? Zhu Shengshi was the head of the town's police station before, a prominent figure. How could you not have dealt with him? Is there something you can't say directly?"

There was silence on the other end of the phone, followed by the factory manager's solemn voice: "I really can't tell you anything. Not just me, no one in the whole town will tell you this. Because, sigh, everyone's afraid of getting into trouble for their gossip. But as a leader and a friend, I advise you not to have anything to do with Zhu Su anymore. She's not an ordinary girl. If you treat her well, that's fine, but if you mistreat her, I'm afraid..."

Su Yang shivered coldly. "Afraid of what?"

"It's nothing," the factory manager sighed. "I've already said too much. If you have nothing else, I'm going to sleep now. Take care of yourself."

Su Yang listened blankly to the dial tone of a disconnected call. The factory manager's hesitant words clearly confirmed his suspicions: the Zhu family truly possessed some kind of special ability, an ability that instilled fear in the entire town and became a taboo subject. But why did Zhu Su kill Liu Changge and the two policemen? Was it because they broke into the Zhu family home? And why was he, the culprit, sitting unharmed in another of Zhu Su's houses?

Su Yang suddenly remembered the curse Zhu Su had written in Zhang Chengting's diary before her death: Everyone in this world had let her down and wanted to take away all that she had, without wanting to give her anything in return. So she cursed everyone who entered room 602 to die a horrible death.

"What did I bring her?" Su Yang finally managed to grasp a clue from his chaotic thoughts. "Could it be that bag of red grapes? Was it what saved my life?"

Su Yang slumped onto the sofa, utterly defeated. He had initially thought that bag of red grapes had triggered a series of nightmares, but it turned out that it was actually the grapes that had saved his life. Although he had experienced some excruciating pain during that time, at least he hadn't been dragged into a living hell by Zhu Su.

"Then what about those men who had visited Zhu Su?" Su Yang recalled that Zhu Su's neighbor had said that almost every month a man would come to visit Zhu Su. Had they all met with misfortune? If so, why hadn't the police filed a case for their deaths or disappearances? But then Su Yang realized that, of all the deaths he had encountered, apart from Chen Lijuan, Zhang Chengting, and the Zhao Lixu couple, whose heads had been missing and seemed like murder cases, the others were all normal accidental deaths that wouldn't arouse suspicion or attract the attention of the police.

"So, these people died in vain, never to see justice served?" A sense of sorrow struck Su Yang, filling him with a vague sense of panic. But the source of this panic remained elusive, no matter how hard Su Yang racked his brains. It was like hearing a mosquito buzzing in your ear in the dark, but no matter how wide you opened your eyes, you couldn't see it, let alone catch it.

Finally, Su Yang gave up. He slumped back onto the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. As he stared, the darkness before him materialized into Zhao Lirui's tragically beautiful face, and a bittersweet sorrow enveloped him.

"I wish you were here with me right now," Su Yang said dreamily, reaching out his hand.

But his hand touched nothing but emptiness. He helplessly withdrew his hand, feeling an emptiness within himself. He had a desire to see Zhao Lirui immediately, and then, to be with her forever.

Su Yang sat up abruptly, glancing at his watch. It was 3:15 AM. Zhao Lirui should be sound asleep by now, though perhaps she wasn't sleeping at all. Su Yang regretted leaving her home alone. The fear of impending terror is often more intense and unbearable than simply facing it, just as the most agonizing torture is often not the final blow, but the long wait. Everyone knows the preciousness of life, but many choose to end it all because they cannot endure the endless darkness before the light arrives.

Therefore, in a sense, Zhao Lirui's fear was even greater than Su Yang's. Su Yang could clearly see what he feared, and he could find a moment of peace before the fear materialized. Zhao Lirui, however, could not. She had to constantly worry about what might happen to Su Yang, so every minute and every second was fraught with danger, torment, and the darkness before dawn, threatening to devour her courage and her patience.

"No wonder she was so sad and reluctant to let me go when we said goodbye." Su Yang felt deeply guilty for his previous carelessness. But in that instant, it was as if a bolt of lightning had cleaved through the darkness of the heavens, illuminating his consciousness but also scorching his body—he finally understood the root of the deep-seated panic that had been plaguing him: why had things been so peaceful in room 602 all night? Because Zhu Su wasn't after him at all, but Zhao Lirui! According to Zhu Su's curse: everyone who enters room 602 empty-handed must die! And Zhao Lirui had entered room 602 more than once, so she was very likely the next target!

602 Man-Eating Apartment Twenty (5) new

Thinking of this, Su Yang felt as if his entire body was frozen by eternal ice, or scorched by raging fire. He recalled the sorrow Zhao Lirui had shown during her farewell, and finally understood. Zhao Lirui's words of peace and her hope to be together forever weren't directed at him, but rather a comfort to herself! She must have foreseen this, knowing she was doomed, which was why she cherished every moment with Su Yang, and why she was so reluctant to let him disappear from her sight. Because in her heart, she had already decided that tonight would be the day of their final farewell!

Su Yang's head throbbed with pain, his heart bled, and he hated himself: How could I have been so selfish, thinking only of my own fate and not considering her true feelings at all? But even deeper, he felt resentment towards Zhu Su, a vicious resentment, hating her for taking away the person he loved most in his life. He fell to his knees with a thud, looked up to the sky and roared: "Zhu Su, you should be dealing with me, not her. I'm the one who should die, not her! Please, spare her! I'm willing to pay with my life!" After shouting this, tears streamed down his face.

The echo of "Let her go" reverberated in the room, assaulting Su Yang's ears and tearing his heart apart. He regretted himself and hated Zhu Su. He could give up everything to ensure Zhao Lirui's safety; he could set aside his dignity to beg Zhu Su to let go. He only wished for Zhao Lirui to be safe and sound.

Suddenly, Su Yang snapped out of his daze. He checked the time; it was 3:30 a.m., only three hours since he had left her. "Maybe she's still safe and sound," Su Yang thought, laughing and crying at the same time. "She'll be alright, she'll be alright." He grabbed the flashlight from the sofa and ran outside.

Just then, his phone rang with a text message notification. Su Yang jumped, overjoyed at the same time. It must be from Zhao Lirui; she must be safe and sound. He pulled out his phone, his tears turning to laughter, and saw it was indeed from Zhao Lirui. "Great, great!" Su Yang smiled sincerely, opening the message. But after just one glance, his smile froze, and he was plunged into despair. The screen displayed only a few large, scarlet words: "You've finally come!"

Su Yang stared at his phone screen for a long time, frozen like a mummy. After a long while, a bloodcurdling scream echoed through the darkness, heart-wrenching and agonizing. It wasn't a human throat, but a heart bursting apart. The piercing sound lingered in the air, echoing and reverberating, becoming the signal for the start of nightmares for those sleeping in the dark… This book comes from , a free txt novel download site.
