Kapitel 6

Seeing Liao Li's firm attitude, Fang Bai had no choice but to ask in return, "Do you think Ji Yuning didn't call the police?"

"you--"

Liao Li had just uttered a single word when Fang Bai interrupted him.

Fang Bai lowered her eyes, her emotions clouded and unreadable. She said to Liao Li in a hoarse voice, "Give me another chance."

Liao Li turned her head away: "I'll ask Yu Ning when she wakes up."

"No," Fang Bai said softly. "Xiao Ning still resents me. Ask her, how could I possibly have a chance to change? And do you think your parents would agree to you raising Xiao Ning?"

Liao Li: "..."

Fang Bai is right.

She was so angry when she saw Ji Yuning's injury that she forgot her two elderly relatives would never agree to it.

After all, when she was befriending Lu Xia, her parents were prejudiced against Lu Xia's unmarried pregnancy.

Seeing Liao Li remain silent, Fang Bai waited a while before saying, "If you're really worried, you can come to my house to check on things when you have time."

Looking into Bai's sincere eyes, Liao Li's heart wavered.

After pondering for a long time, Liao Li finally spoke softly, "...I come once every three days."

"No need, you can come on the weekend."

Seeing Liao Li's face flush with anger again, Fang Bai added, "She lives at school and only comes home on Saturdays and Sundays."

Liao Li: "...Okay."

Liao Li didn't stay long before the hospital called and told her to go back.

After Liao Li left, Fang Bai told Wu Mei to go downstairs to rest, while she stayed in Ji Yuning's room.

The IV drip finished quickly. When the needle was removed, Fang Bai held Ji Yuning's hand halfway. Ji Yuning's hand had very little flesh on it, and it felt a bit rough to hold.

Looking at the pale-faced person on the bed.

Fang Bai pondered how to fatten up Ji Yuning.

Author's Note:

Ji: Don't get fat!

Fang: They've been called "skinny monkey" all along.

Ji: T_T I'm being rejected... *sobs*

Fang: Honey, I was just worried about you.

He calmed her down in a second.

Chapter 5

After the needle was removed, Fang Bai tried to use the hand that was holding Ji Yuning's to press the medical tape, but before Fang Bai could pull his hand away from Ji Yuning's, Ji Yuning grabbed it tightly.

Fang Bai looked up at Ji Yuning and saw her tightly furrowed brows.

After looking away, Fang Bai didn't pull his hand away again, but let Ji Yuning hold it.

Finally, Fang Bai could only use an awkward posture, pressing the injection site with his other hand.

The room fell silent, with only Ji Yuning's soft breathing.

Fang Bai looked at Ji Yuning's profile, which was nestled in the soft pillow, and thought to himself that he knew she was stubborn when he read the book, so why did he deliberately provoke her?

Fang Bai blamed himself for Ji Yuning's high fever, believing it was mostly her fault.

But the book actually mentions that Ji Yuning would get this illness.

Wu Mei discovered that Ji Yuning had a high fever, but the original owner didn't pay much attention to it, so Wu Mei could only secretly buy fever-reducing medicine for Ji Yuning.

In the end, Ji Yuning lay in the attic for three days before she recovered, which left her with aftereffects that frequently recurred later in the story.

Fortunately, this time...they arrived just in time.

A minute later, Ji Yuning loosened her grip on Fang Bai's hand.

Fang Bai took the opportunity to pull his hand away, peeled off the tape on the back of Ji Yuning's hand, and then stuffed Ji Yuning's hand back into the blanket.

Fang Bai bent down and placed his hand on Ji Yuning's forehead. Her temperature had dropped considerably, so she should be fine now.

My gaze moved down from Ji Yuning's forehead and noticed that her lips were dry and chapped.

Behind her came the sound of the door opening and Wu Mei's voice, "Miss, you should go back to your room. I'll watch over things here."

Fang Bai turned around and whispered, "Sister Wu, aren't you going to rest?"

"How can I sleep when you haven't rested yet?" Wu Mei said softly.

Fang Bai's lips curled up slightly. "Thank you."

Wu Mei repeatedly said it was alright, her tone still containing a hint of embarrassment.

Another major reason why Wu Mei couldn't sleep was that she couldn't understand why Fang Bai's attitude towards Ji Yuning had suddenly changed.

Wu Mei couldn't figure it out, but she had a terrible assumption in her mind: she was afraid that Fang Bai would take advantage of Ji Yuning's weakness and bully her.

As she thought about it, Wu Mei got out of bed again.

Fang Bai said to the woman, "Sister Wu, could you please get me a glass of water?"

Wu Mei responded and quickly handed Fang Bai a glass of warm water.

Fang Bai took the cotton swab, which Liao Li had left behind, dipped it in water, and gently rolled it back and forth on Ji Yuning's lips.

Ji Yuning, who was in a deep sleep, seemed to sense something and pursed her lips.

The dry skin on my lips was softened by the moisture.

Seeing this, Fang Bai prepared to continue moisturizing Ji Yuning's lips, but as soon as she moistened the cotton swab with water, her vision suddenly went black, and she staggered, almost losing her balance.

Wu Mei quickly stepped forward to support Fang Bai, saying worriedly, "Miss, are you anemic again? You haven't had dinner yet, let me heat it up for you."

Fang Bai had been taking care of Ji Yuning all along, and he was probably exhausted.

Wu Mei helped Fang Bai sit down in a chair, and then turned to leave.

"Sister Wu," Fang Bai called out to Wu Mei, "No need to prepare it, I won't eat it."

Wu Mei hesitated: "But your health..."

Fang Bai shook his head twice, then said, supporting his head with his hand, "It's probably because I jumped up too hard and didn't get enough blood. It's nothing."

Wu Mei stepped forward and said, "Miss, let me take you back to your room to rest."

Fang Bai: "Okay."

Just as Wu Mei reached out to help Fang Bai, Fang Bai handed her a cotton swab.

"You don't need to see me off, I can go back to my room by myself."

Fang Bai said softly, "This cotton swab is no longer usable. Get a new one and apply it to her lips a few more times, just make sure they're not too dry."

Fang Bai stood up, looked at the woman in her forties in front of him, and thinking about her health, said, "You should go to sleep in a while. She has almost recovered."

Wu Mei was taken aback by Fang Bai's series of words of concern for Ji Yuning. She nodded and said, "Don't worry, Miss, I know."

"Um."

Fang Bai still trusted Wu Mei quite a bit.

Just as Fang Bai was about to leave, she suddenly remembered something. She glanced at Ji Yuning, whose brows were still furrowed, but her complexion was much better than before. After looking away, Fang Bai spoke a few words to Wu Mei.

After Fang Bai left the room, Wu Mei followed Fang Bai's instructions and prepared to gently moisten Ji Yuning's lips with a cotton swab.

When Wu Mei dipped a cotton swab in water, the person on the bed opened their eyes.

Despite her blurry vision from sleep, Ji Yuning could still make out who was in front of her. In her daze, she called out, "Aunt Wu."

Hearing the sound, Wu Mei leaned forward slightly and asked in a low voice, "Awake? How are you feeling?"

My throat feels dry, my body feels hot, and my hands... are still there.

Both hands are still there.

Ji Yuning pulled her hand out from under the blanket. She glanced at the tape still stuck to the back of her hand, stared at the red bloodstains on it, and remained silent.

As Ji Yuning lowered her hand, she caught a glimpse of the cotton swab in Wu Mei's hand out of the corner of her eye. She could still feel the moisture on Wu Mei's lips. Ji Yuning pursed her lips and whispered, "Aunt Wu, thank you."

Wu Mei's eyes widened.

Over the past three years, Ji Yuning has thanked her many times, but none of them have been as heartfelt as this one.

Wu Mei felt a deep sense of guilt and subconsciously said, "No need to thank me, I'm just glad you don't blame me."

Ji Yuning's eyelids drooped. "Mm."

"Are you hungry? Would you like something to eat? What would you like to eat? I'll heat up some food and bring it to you—"

Wu Mei stopped speaking when she saw that Ji Yuning had fallen asleep again.

Looking at the other person's peaceful sleeping face, Wu Mei sighed, feeling sorry for Ji Yuning's unfortunate fate. Then she bent down to tuck the blanket around Ji Yuning and used a cotton swab to moisten her lips.

A few minutes later, Wu Mei left the room.

Once again, only Ji Yuning's breathing could be heard in the room.

After falling asleep, Ji Yuning clenched her hands hidden under the covers, trying to find the source of warmth that brought her comfort in her dreams.

Finally, after grabbing a corner of the blanket, the slight frown between his brows gradually calmed down.

Ji Yuning felt like she had slept for a long time, but when she checked the time, it was only a little past six. However, after just a few seconds, Ji Yuning remembered that she had started sleeping yesterday afternoon.

She looked at the unfamiliar surroundings and then glanced at the IV bag hanging on the shelf next to her.

Raising her hand and staring at the medical tape on the back of it, Ji Yuning recalled what had happened last night.

She had a high fever.
