Kapitel 24

She already knew Meng Junyao was no good, but this time she had carelessly given her the opportunity. Looking at the man's face getting closer and closer, she clutched her collar tightly: "Wait...wait a minute."

The disparity in strength between men and women made her realize that resistance was futile; at this point, the only way to win was through strategy.

The man was already poised to attack and didn't want to pay any attention.

"It's not convenient here. What if... what if someone breaks in? Wouldn't that ruin everything? How about we go to the inner room?" She finished speaking as calmly as possible, the resistance in her eyes already weakening.

"Where do you want to go?" Upon hearing this, the man stepped back slightly.

"Inside...inside room, there's a bed in the inner room."

Meng Wan whispered something, and seeing the man finally get up, she immediately shrank back, trembling all over, but she tried her best to endure it. At this time, she couldn't panic; only by staying calm could she have a chance to escape.

Her gaze fell upon the several porcelain fruit plates placed on the table. Her expression slightly hardened. She glanced at the man's back again, then quietly walked over, grabbed one of the plates, and then...

"Ah!" With a scream, the plate in her hand was thrown at him, hitting him squarely on the back of the head, splattering blood on the spot.

"Ah, blood...blood..." The man touched his forehead, and instantly his eyes widened. "Damn it, how dare you hit me! I'll kill you!"

He scrambled to his feet and lunged at Meng Wan. Meng Wan rushed toward the door, but just then, the door was kicked open.

"Bang--"

With a loud noise, a tall figure entered. Meng Wan was caught off guard and bumped into the man's arms. Still shaken, she felt a sudden sense of relief when she saw the man's face.

It's him!

The guy who gave her the whistle and said he'd be there for her if anything happened! But she clearly didn't blow it!

The man ignored her, bent down and picked her up horizontally, not even looking at her face, and kicked the man dressed as a monk.

The man cried out in pain and fell to the ground, sprawling there in a disheveled state.

But that wasn't the end of it. After the first kick, there was another. The man, who had already been hit on the head, was kicked twice more and almost passed out.

The man holding Meng Wan was relentless and raised his foot again, intending to kill her, but Meng Wan suddenly stopped him.

"Um..." It was only then that she realized that although they had known each other for quite some time, she didn't even know his name.

But now is not the time to think about that. Grasping his wrist, she said, "Don't kill him yet, he'll be useful."

The man, unaware of her plans, released his foot as instructed and looked down at the person in his arms.

Falling from the Sky (Part Two)

The man, unaware of her plans, released his foot as instructed and looked down at the person in his arms.

Meng Wan's emotions had calmed down by now, but her body was still burning hot. How could she dare to get so close to a man? She struggled to get off his embrace, then looked up into his eyes and said, "Can you do me a favor?"

This was the first time she had asked him for help so earnestly. A smile quickly appeared on the man's face as he looked at her leisurely and asked instead of answering, "Where's the gift I gave you?"

Meng Wan was visibly taken aback for a moment, but then answered truthfully, "It's at home."

The man's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly, then he relaxed, gently tapped her forehead, and said, "Next time, remember to carry it with you, otherwise even if I know you're in trouble, I won't come to save you."

It sounded like a threat, but it left Meng Wan somewhat bewildered.

What did he mean by that? Had he been outside the whole time? That's why he appeared so quickly. But why? How did he know her whereabouts so clearly?

"Speak, what do you want me to do?"

She hesitated for a moment, but the man spoke again. Meng Wan then pulled herself out of her thoughts, turned her head to look at the fake monk groaning on the ground, and then tiptoed to whisper something in the man's ear.

The man listened quietly, his unfathomable black eyes suddenly narrowing, and he became quite interested.

Are you sure you want to do this?

"Yes." Meng Wan nodded.

The man had barely finished speaking when he turned towards the door: "Puyang—"

A man in black burst through the door and clasped his hands in greeting, saying, "Master."

The man nodded, glanced at Meng Wan, and then turned to Pu Yang: "Go and knock Meng Junyao unconscious and bring her here."

"Take him to the next room," Meng Wan added, gesturing towards the man. Upon seeing the inscription on the memorial tablet, the man understood and nodded slightly to Pu Yang. Pu Yang understood, went forward, pulled the groaning man off the ground, and dragged him out with almost no effort.

After the person left, Meng Wan took a deep breath. She was still feeling very hot. She took out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from her forehead. Although it was uncomfortable, she could still bear it. It seemed that it really was just a small sip, and the poison had not penetrated deeply.

The man stepped forward and grabbed her wrist. Because the movement was so sudden, Meng Wan instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but he held it firmly. "Don't move."

He placed his fingers on her wrist, looking into her eyes. Her face was flushed, and her pulse was erratic, clearly indicating that she had been drugged. Fortunately, the poison wasn't too strong. "Wait a moment, I'll give you an acupuncture."

Unexpectedly, he also knew medicine. Meng Wan looked at him with new respect as he took out a burlap bag from his bosom, opened it, and took out two silver needles.

The thought of the needle pricking her skin sent chills down her spine. She couldn't bear to look and quickly turned her head away, trying to distract herself by saying, "By the way, how did you know I was here? You weren't following me again, were you?"

She was clearly afraid of pain, and her frightened expression made the man smile. As he moved, he grabbed her wrist and slowly stabbed her index finger.

It did hurt a bit, and Meng Wan immediately frowned and clenched her teeth. Seeing this, the man slowed his movements and, hearing her question, said, "No, I just placed someone in the Prime Minister's residence to protect you."

Treat them as they treat you (Part 1)

"Because I know your personality, even if I give you the Blood Kite you won't use it to ask me for help, and you always seem to be in danger, so I have no choice but to do this."

The phrase "I know your personality" was said so casually, yet it left Meng Wan stunned once again. Did he really understand her that well?

She looked at him with suspicion, but he didn't say anything. He just chuckled and released her hand. Looking at the drop of red blood that had bulged on her fingertip, he wiped it away and said, "The poison isn't deep. I just released the poisoned blood for you, so you're fine now. Just go back and rest for a couple of days."
