Chapter 27

"Oh?" Chu Mu raised an eyebrow in surprise. "You've finally achieved your goal. Congratulations!"

Ji Hengdong stretched comfortably in the back seat, his peach blossom eyes full of smugness. "This time, it seems the capital is going to be choosing a concubine. This news hasn't even spread within the compound yet, but if it gets out..." Ji Hengdong closed his eyes and imagined the scene, "Tsk tsk tsk,"

How many young masters would be infuriated by this?

After all, it's truly rare for four giants to reunite.

For a moment, the four of them smiled knowingly, the mischievous tendencies that had belonged to their childhood stirring within them. Just as they fell silent, Chu Mu's phone suddenly rang.

Author's note: La la la la la, Colonel Zhan is so domineering, isn't he?

I couldn't bear to read the later parts about Yang Ke and the other two. Girls, do you like the scenes of the four rascals from Beijing working together to save people? Let me know if you do!!

Chapter 25

25

"Hello?" Chu Mu glanced at the unfamiliar number on the screen, hesitated, and then answered.

A serious male voice came from the other end of the phone, "Hello, this is the Municipal Public Security Bureau. Is this Shu Yi'an your wife?"

Chu Mu almost instinctively sensed that something was wrong with Shu Yi'an. "Yes. What happened to her?"

"Here's what happened: she and her friend encountered a traffic accident on the road. While they were getting out of the car to check on the situation, they were suddenly kidnapped by three people in the vehicle that caused the accident. The perpetrators were armed with controlled knives and are now driving the vehicle that caused the accident from east to west."

Chu Mu's mind went blank for a moment, but even in such a state of anxiety and tension, the highly professional Deputy Director Chu was still able to accurately identify the issues that needed his attention, instead of pounding on the steering wheel and yelling at the police like some other husbands. "What's the situation now? Are they still safe?"

The three people in the car sensed something was off after hearing Chu Mu's words, and they all turned to look at him.

"Their malicious intent is intense, and with knives in their hands, no one can guarantee their safety. However, we have already deployed special police units, riot control vehicles, and other forces to set up checkpoints and intercept them. They have now fled onto the G29 expressway."

Chu Mu gripped the phone tightly, his tone unusually calm. "What's the license plate number?"

The other party was taken aback; in all his years as a police officer, he had never seen such an imposing family member. It was as if he were the one giving orders in this case. "...I'm sorry, we can't..."

"I'm asking you what your license plate number is!"

Hiss! Zhan Cheng slammed on the brakes, stopping the car in the middle of the road. All three of them were startled, their hearts churning with a thousand galloping alpacas. Chu Mu cursed, "Holy crap!!!" What could have happened to make such a refined and usually calm diplomat so angry?

The officer was clearly frightened, craning his neck and timidly uttering four numbers. "J...J4869." He had barely finished speaking when the phone was disconnected.

After hanging up the phone, Chu Mu's face was as cold as ice, and his tone was chilling. "Go to G29."

Zhan Cheng pursed his lips, restarted the car, and turned around without hesitation, heading towards another intersection. The three looked at each other in the rearview mirror, and Ji Hengdong, unafraid of the danger, asked, "What happened?"

Chu Mu took a deep breath, his mind in turmoil. "Yi An has been kidnapped, taken to a car, and is now being driven towards G29."

Ji Hengdong shuddered. "Has this bastard gone mad? He'd dare rob just anyone! Is Yi'an alright or not?"

Chu Mu frowned and shook his head. "I don't know. I only know that he has a knife and that the SWAT team has already caught up with him."

Jiang Beichen could truly understand Chu Mu's feelings. When Chu Han got into trouble, he had wished he could kill those bastards with his own hands. Now, what about Shu Yi'an? What about his wife, whom Chu Mu had always protected so closely? He reached out and patted Chu Mu's shoulder, trying to comfort him. "It's alright. There has to be a reason for a kidnapping. I don't believe they can do anything under our noses."

Zhan Cheng, who was driving, also chimed in to comfort them, "We're closer to G29, so we'll definitely get there before them. These guys are asking for trouble. So what if they have knives? My whole car full of sniper rifles can't take them down."

That's right. When Colonel Zhan went to the battlefield, Yang Ke and his gang of scoundrels were probably still in school being punished by their teachers to write vocabulary words.

Chu Mu buried his face in his hands and rubbed them hard, suddenly realizing a very important question. He deftly picked up the phone and dialed.

The call was answered after only two rings. "Director Chu?"

Chu Mu succinctly explained his purpose to the person on the other end of the phone. "There's been a kidnapping and escape incident on the highway, it's caused quite a stir. You handle the media, don't let them get involved at the scene, and I don't want any further reports."

"Okay, I'll take care of it right away."

Such an incident couldn't possibly go unreported by the media, because Yang Ke and his two accomplices committed this heinous crime not far from the police station, surrounded by passersby. Therefore, the media immediately followed up with live coverage and closely monitored the outcome.

However, Chu Mu did not want the outside world to know all the suffering and humiliation that Shu Yi'an had endured.

So within minutes, several media vehicles that had sped onto the highway turned back. The different media vehicles exchanged knowing glances and chose to remain silent.

A newly assigned cameraman, carrying a long set of cameras, looked blankly at the anchor sitting in the back row, his slightly immature face full of confusion. "Anchor Zhang, are we not going to follow such a big news story? Why?"

The middle-aged man, addressed as Anchor Zhang, smiled slightly, a smile tinged with helplessness. "College students are still quite naive, young man... In this industry, there are some things you can report, and some things you can't. Every industry has its rules, and this is the deepest yet most obvious principle in our media industry."

"Can't report it?" The young cameraman's eyes widened. "Could it be that the criminal has some kind of background?"

"I don't know, I only heard it's to protect social order and the victims*." Anchor Zhang took off his glasses and wiped them with the corner of his shirt, his voice calm. But he had already figured out the reason. Having worked in this industry for over 20 years, he had, in his youth, been like this new cameraman, wanting to get to the bottom of things hidden in the gray areas. But as time went on, he realized that some things were beyond the reach of a journalist.

"So... we're just going to let this go like this?"

“No.” Anchor Zhang shook his head. “Let the police handle it and give us the results. We still need to publish a report tomorrow morning.”

There must be light and hope for those who still live in this world, right?

————————————————————————————

Yang Ke's face turned deathly pale with rage as he looked at the armored vehicles blaring their sirens around them. A secondhand Jetta was no match for these well-equipped combat vehicles. The G29 highway had already been cordoned off due to the emergency, and the two brothers, clinging tightly to Shu Yi'an and Su Ying, peered outside. "Brother Yang, we can't escape!!"

Yang Ke wasn't stupid; knowing he couldn't escape, he spat out the window. "Pah!"

The armored vehicle, which was relentlessly pursuing the Jetta, also got angry. The SWAT officer immediately loaded his bullet and fired a shot at the vehicle.

"Ah!!" Startled by the gunshot, Shu Yi'an and Su Ying bent over abruptly. Su Ying's eyes filled with tears as she rubbed her head against the bent-over Shu Yi'an, her apology evident.

Seeing the situation was turning bad, Yang Ke glanced at the two people in the rearview mirror and suddenly had a daring and crazy idea. The SWAT team probably sensed something; the captain, sitting in the front, leaned out and looked at the Jetta, decisively grabbing the walkie-talkie and issuing the order: "They're probably going to abandon the car, slow down, slow down!!"

But it was too late. While the armored vehicle was closing in on him, Yang Ke shouted to the back seat, "When the car stops, get out with both of them immediately!"
