Chapter 58

"I only found out today, silly child. Why didn't you tell your mother you were pregnant? If I had known, I would have brought you back immediately and wouldn't have let you suffer any injustice at that bastard's place."

Problems in a marriage are a matter for both people, and neither needs to speak ill of the other in front of their family and friends. Shu Yi'an naturally couldn't and wouldn't bring up the rift between them in front of Sui Qing, so she could only keep comforting Sui Qing and telling her that she was really fine.

"He took good care of me, and I was very careful. My body is slowly recovering, Mom. I'm fine."

"What do you mean 'nothing'!" Sui Qing slammed her hand on the table in dissatisfaction. "Women's matters are never trivial! You child... always taking sides, in the end you're the one who gets hurt!" Looking at Shu Yi'an's expression, Sui Qing paused and tentatively asked, "But... you're still young, don't take it too seriously. You and Chu Mu will have a future together."

"Mom," Shu Yi'an suddenly interrupted her, her expression very serious, "Chu Mu and I, there is no future..."

"I want to divorce him."

Sui Qing gasped, utterly shocked. "Yi'an! It can't have come to this, can it? I admit he was wrong this time, and as his mother, I will not take his side. But please don't say anything in anger, this is no joke!"

Shu Yi'an knew that facing his family would be a big challenge, but Sui Qing had always treated her very well, like a daughter, even more so than Chu Weiyuan. So she also planned to be honest with her mother-in-law.

"Mom, the reason Chu Mu and I took this step today isn't just because of this child. But it's not something that can be explained in a few words either. Maybe... we're both at fault... just like Dad said back then, we got married too hastily, and problems will arise in the future. We didn't really understand each other, and now the situation we've created is irreversible, so..."

Looking at her mother-in-law, who treated her like a treasure, Shu Yi'an couldn't bear to be too cruel.

"So, it's better if we separate."

When the Chu family first learned that Chu Mu was getting married, everyone except Sui Qing seemed preoccupied. On the night Chu Mu brought Shu Yi'an home for dinner, Chu's father expressed his opinion seriously and frankly.

"You two haven't known each other for very long before getting married. I'm afraid there will be problems later."

Sui Qing, however, felt an instant attraction to Shu Yi'an upon first sight. The girl was pure and innocent, her eyes sparkling with a brightness that Tao Yunjia could never match. Every gesture she made exuded respect and politeness towards her elders. When she learned that Shu Yi'an would be working for a foreign company after graduation, she praised her highly, saying that this girl was sensible and reasonable. Perhaps it truly was a case of instant attraction. It was also Sui Qing who persuaded Chu's father to agree to the marriage. Now, getting her to accept their divorce was no easy task.

Sui Qing was as stubborn as a child, holding Shu Yi'an's hand and asking repeatedly, "You two...you...why did you decide to divorce so easily? Did he agree?!"

Did he agree? Shu Yi'an asked herself the same question. After her outburst that day, Chu Mu suddenly became silent, neglecting his work and spending his days by her side as if he were a free man. Although he was always aware of her every whim and need, he would simply quietly do everything for her. He neither agreed nor disagreed with her requests, often staring blankly into space. She could feel the warmth of his fingers as she slept, and if she frowned even slightly, he would instinctively hold her close and ask her gently.

Can this be considered agreement?

"I don't know if he agreed or not, but Mom, I'm not going to change my mind."

When Sui Qing closed the ward door and came out, Chu Mu immediately stood up straight against the wall outside the ward. There was a hint of anticipation in his eyes.

How is she?

Sui Qing sneered, "So what! Why don't you put your hand on your conscience and ask her what she thinks!"

Watching his eyes slowly dim, Sui Qing sighed helplessly and touched Chu Mu's face, her expression regretful. "Son, I'm afraid Yi'an really has to leave you."

Meanwhile, Chu Weiyuan was furious at Ji Hengdong's villa. She grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.

"You son of a bitch, Tao Yunjia!!! Why are you only telling me now?! My brother and sister-in-law are in such a terrible situation and you're telling me?! Ji Hengdong, are you out of your mind?!"

Ji Hengdong knew Chu Weiyuan would react this way. He rubbed his sore head and shrank into the corner, looking aggrieved. "I only just found out the truth, why did you have to hit me? What if you hurt me?"

"What do you mean, 'what to do'?!" Chu Weiyuan's almond-shaped eyes widened in anger. "You dare to say with a clear conscience that you only found out today! How did you find out so quickly when Pang Zexun and I ran away? Oh right, you, Ji Hengdong, have always been one to act later than you have intelligence. I guess I'm just forgetful."

Ji Hengdong was most afraid of her bringing up the matter with the Pang family, and feeling guilty, he jumped up and pressed Chu Weiyuan back onto the bed, hugging her. "Didn't we agree not to mention it? Why are you bringing it up again?"

Chu Weiyuan stretched out her leg and kicked him, then uttered a single word clearly.

"roll."

"Hey!" Ji Hengdong covered his face and rushed out of the bedroom in a hurry. "Where are you going!"

Chu Weiyuan had already rushed out the door like a small rocket with her bag in hand; all that could be vaguely heard was her righteous and awe-inspiring words.

"In the name of the moon, I will destroy her."

A red sports car sped through the hospital gate, its screech causing everyone to scatter in alarm. Chu Weiyuan swerved and parked the car imposingly at the entrance, stepping out in her nine-centimeter heels, her face contorted with rage. She had just returned from a business trip when she heard about this serious incident, and her anger intensified upon learning that Tao Yunjia was the culprit.

The sister-in-law who would accompany her to meals, sweep the streets, cook soup for her, and bring her medicine—the sister-in-law whom no one would dare to harm in the slightest—had actually been treated like this by a bitch?! How could she?! Chu Weiyuan felt that even she herself had been insulted!

Ignoring the nurses and the police officers monitoring her, who were hurriedly asking her questions, Chu Weiyuan kicked open the door and aggressively extended a hand towards the nurse.

"Don't come in if there's any noise in this room, or I'll make you just like her."

"And you too." Chu Weiyuan pointed her fair fingertip in a different direction at the young police officer. "Anyway, she's a bad person. Your job is to make sure she doesn't run away and that she stays alive in there."

The police officer, a recent graduate, knew the seriousness of the situation and that he couldn't afford to offend anyone, so he stood awkwardly at the door, unsure whether to go in or out.

Tao Yunjia had just finished changing her bandages and was buttoning her clothes. Seeing Chu Weiyuan like this, she wasn't surprised. Instead, she smiled. "What? Came so quickly to avenge your sister-in-law?"

Chu Weiyuan tossed her bag onto the sofa, calmly rolled up the sleeves of her leather jacket, raised an eyebrow, and nodded. "Yeah, they've come for revenge."

Looking at that face that she had found utterly repulsive since she was sixteen, she mustered all her strength and slapped her across the face. The crisp sound, mixed with Tao Yunjia's cry of pain, made Chu Weiyuan shake her numb hand with satisfaction.

"Was that good? Want one more?"

Tao Yunjia already knew of Chu Weiyuan's reputation, but she didn't expect her to act so quickly, and was a little stunned for a moment.

"Why did you hit me!"

Chu Weiyuan chuckled and took two steps forward. "Why should I? Do you really think every woman knows your tricks? That you can bewitch people with just a few words? I'm not good with words; I always feel that taking action is more effective."

Slowly squatting down, Chu Weiyuan grabbed Tao Yunjia's hospital gown collar and slapped her three more times.

"I'll tell you right now why I'm beating you. First, I'm beating you for being shameless enough to covet my brother. Second, I'm beating you for being ungrateful enough to harm my brother. Third, I'm beating you for being reckless enough to bully my sister-in-law."

Tao Yunjia collapsed onto the paved floor in a disheveled state, her face terribly swollen and red. She pointed at Chu Weiyuan with a hint of madness, "If I could exchange it for Shu Yi'an's child, it would be worth it."

"You really think this is the end of it?" Chu Weiyuan straightened her sleeves, calmly picked up her bag, and opened the door. "You should know that the person who most wants to kill you hasn't arrived yet."

Author's note: Haha, is Chu Weiyuan being domineering today?
