Chapter 12

"I'm not very good at it, but I can learn slowly."

The breakfast chef prepared freshly cooked wontons, along with boiled eggs on a plate and a glass of milk.

Halfway through the meal, Wei Yutang realized that Xiaxia hadn't touched the boiled egg, so he asked:

"Don't you like this?"

"No, it's because I don't want to peel the eggshell."

Xiaxia hadn't even swallowed the wontons in her mouth yet, so her speech was a little slurred, and she didn't forget to roll her eyes after she finished speaking.

Wei Yutang wasn't stupid. After Xia Xia finished speaking, he peeled one for her. When he was about to put it on Xia Xia's plate, Xia Xia blocked him with her hand.

"Um?"

"I don't eat egg yolks."

Wei Yutang kept the yolk in front of himself, and when he gave the egg white to Xiaxia, he finally stopped being picky.

Wei Yutang also had things to do at the company in the morning. After lunch, he planned to take Xiaxia to the company with him. As they were leaving, Xiaxia kept turning back to look at him, clearly reluctant to part.

"Want to stay here?"

Xiaxia shook his head decisively upon hearing this; he didn't want to stay unless his father was there too.

"Father, it's such a waste that no one wears those clothes."

Wei Yutang thought Xiaxia was afraid of wasting money, so he picked him up and carried him outside, explaining as they walked:

"It will be donated to children in mountainous areas."

All the clothes that Xiaxia hadn't worn but that Wei Yutang had prepared were handled in this way.

Xia Xia's big eyes were wide open at that moment, and she couldn't help but reach out and pat Wei Yutang's cheek.

"Are you really my father?"

They wouldn't even let him wear clothes meant for children in mountainous areas!!

Just then, they boarded the bus, so Wei Yutang didn't have time to ask for more details. In the few seconds after boarding, Xiaxia's mind was racing.

Once the car started moving, Wei Yutang wanted to ask Xia Xia why she suddenly doubted this, but Xia Xia looked like she had made up her mind, and bit her lip as she asked:

"Father, if we go for a paternity test, will you reimburse us?"

Why do we need to do this?

After asking the question, Wei Yutang realized that he should be thinking more about how Xia Xia knew about this, after all, he was so young.

Xiaxia, with a serious expression, replied:

"I suspect I'm not your biological child."

Xiaxia had no objection to donating the clothes to children in mountainous areas; his objection was that his father wouldn't let him wear them.

"No doubt about it, you are."

Xiaxia is currently wearing overalls with a light yellow top underneath, looking very lively and cute, as can be seen from their similar eyebrows and eyes.

Even though Wei Yutang said that, Xiaxia was still reluctant to believe it and planned to talk to her father about it when she saw him that evening.

Who knows, his real father might be a young, handsome, and dashing man, rather than this old man in front of him who always has a cold face and is intimidating, and who doesn't know how to take care of children at all.

After arriving at the company, the secretary first told Wei Yutang about the day's schedule, and Xia Xia did not get off him the entire time.

Fortunately, Wei Yutang has a very regular exercise routine, so it's not difficult for him to be carried.

Even when Xiaxia was sitting behind his desk looking at an email on the computer, she would sit on his lap.

When he was finally able to take a break from his busy work, Wei Yutang glanced at Xiaxia and asked:

"Are you always this clingy to your dad at home?"

Xia Xia, who was playing with the supposedly very expensive gemstone cufflinks on her father's sleeve, looked up after hearing this and stared at Wei Yutang for a long time with the look of someone looking at an idiot.

"Dad, you're silly. My dad has something to do."

"And what about me?"

With this little guy around, Wei Yutang found it difficult to concentrate on his work all morning, and his work efficiency plummeted.

"You do your thing, I'll do mine."

After Xiaxia finished speaking, she continued to play with her cufflinks, wondering if she could fasten them off and put them in her pocket to take home without her father noticing.

"good."

After receiving Xia Xia's guarantee, Wei Yutang opened an email, and Xia Xia immediately grabbed his arm and shook it.

I'm thirsty.

"Have the secretary pour it out."

"you go."

Earlier, when Xiaxia came up, she passed by the secretary's office outside. The door looked very high-class and not something a child could open.

"Wouldn't it be better if you went by yourself?"

"I'm still young, and I'm afraid of people!"

Seeing his confident and self-assured manner in admitting that he was afraid of people, Wei Yutang couldn't help but doubt the truthfulness of his words.

"You're not afraid of people in front of your father?"

"I am a little man, and I must protect my dad. I cannot be afraid in front of him."

"You're a real man, you have to protect Xiaxia."

After saying that, Xia Xia patted Wei Yutang on the shoulder and urged him:

"Hurry up, if you make me thirsty, you won't have any treasure left."

Chapter 11

Wei Yutang stood up, picked up Xiaxia, and poured her a glass of water, which he gulped down in one go.

"Another one, please."

"So thirsty?"

"Yes, Dad reminds me to drink water every day."

At home, he would lie down and watch the little turtles for a while, but then he would be called over to get a drink of water.

This made Wei Yutang pause for a moment. After pouring him some water, he played with him for a while.

Previously, he had been blaming Chu Qing for not taking good care of Xia Xia, but now he realized that he himself might not be a very competent father.

The secretary had ordered lunch in advance. Wei Yutang preferred spicy food, and seeing the red color in the dishes, Xia Xia asked hesitantly:

Can I eat it?

The food his father cooked for him had never been this red.

"Huh? Why not?"

After Wei Yutang finished speaking, Xiaxia picked up the food with her spoon and shoveled it into her mouth. She coughed after chewing for only a couple of seconds.

Her porcelain-white face turned bright red from coughing, and even after drinking several sips of water, the spiciness still brought tears to her eyes.

Xiaxia, who had always been very good-tempered, became somewhat sullen because of this incident.

She jumped off the chair next to the dining table, hugged her knees on the tatami mat, and buried her head in her arms in a pitiful state.

I miss my dad, I miss him so much.

After her father's image appeared in her mind, her eyes started to sting, and large tears welled up. Like a wounded little animal, she silently ran to a corner and sobbed pitifully.

Wei Yutang returned with a glass of milk and placed it in front of Xiaxia. The usually calm and collected man seemed somewhat at a loss for what to do.

"I'm sorry, I forgot to tell my secretary that drinking some milk can help relieve the spiciness."

Xiaxia rubbed her reddened eyes, unwilling to show her vulnerable side in front of her father, and turned her head away to cover it up.

"snort."

"sorry."

Aside from that sentence, Wei Yutang didn't know what else to say to Xia Xia, so he could only keep apologizing and admitting his mistakes.

Before today, he had never known that taking care of children was such an energy-consuming task, requiring extreme care.

"Xiaxia, please forgive your father this time, okay? Just this once."

Xiaxia, pouting, saw that his attitude was fairly sincere. Although she was still somewhat unwilling, she nodded politely out of respect for him being her father, and emphasized in her slightly hoarse, childlike voice:

"Only once."

"Yes, I will never make this mistake again."

After Wei Yutang finished speaking, he reached out and wiped Xia Xia's tears, then picked him up and walked out, intending to take Xia Xia to the private restaurant he often frequented.

When we arrived, I specifically reminded them that we had children and asked them to cook something light.

Most children cannot tolerate spicy food when they are young, but this may change as they grow older.

It was past one o'clock when the dishes were served. Xiaxia's stomach was growling with hunger. She covered her stomach with both hands and kept glaring at her father.

"Xiaxia, try this."

Wei Yutang picked up a piece of broccoli and put it in Xiaxia's bowl. Xiaxia stared at the broccoli with her eyebrows furrowed.

"I don't like eating scallions."

"Then I'll pick them out."

"I don't like ginger either, and I don't like carrots either."

"How can there be cabbages? When I grow up, I'll wipe out all the cabbages in the world."
