Blood-sucking fangs - Chapter 22
"What?" Feng Nian'en asked, not having heard clearly.
"It's nothing." The girl let go of his hand and brushed her short hair aside. "Let's go, treat me to dinner."
"Huh?" Si Wen's leaping thoughts made it hard for him to keep up.
"What do you mean, 'huh'? You made me sit here all night, shouldn't you do something to make it up to me?"
"Sat all night?" Feng Nian'en was startled. Although she knew there was a lot of exaggeration in those words, she felt as if a sweet feeling with a slightly strange taste was flowing into her heart.
“Yes,” she said, turning her head away, “the thought of being fooled by an idiot keeps me up at night!”
Feng Nian'en looked at the girl's upturned chin and knew that this wasn't the main reason; otherwise, she wouldn't have let him off the hook last night. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately held back.
The two arrived at the breakfast shop. Although Si Wen insisted that he treat them, he only drank a bowl of porridge, and Feng Nian'en barely ate a fried dough stick. The atmosphere became somewhat awkward. It was already 8:15, and they would be late for school if they didn't get there soon.
"You have class this morning, right?" Siwen suddenly asked, looking at the large red tassels hanging from the tablecloth.
"Huh? Uh, uh..."
"Go to class."
"And what about you?"
"Me?" The girl raised her face and stretched. "Of course I'm going home to take a shower and go to sleep. Do you think I'd lose sleep over a fool like you?"
After she finished speaking, she stood up and strode out of the shop. Feng Nian'en watched her retreating figure, then suddenly paid her bill and chased after her.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, tilting her head to look at him.
"I... will walk with you."
"I just want to go home, why are you accompanying me!" she suddenly shouted angrily.
Feng Nian'en looked at her and said softly, "I'll go home with you."
The girl suddenly stopped and stared straight at him. Her brown eyes held an indescribable emotion.
The sun hung high in the azure sky, without a single cloud. Sunlight filtered through the broad leaves of the sycamore trees lining the road, dappling the girl like fragments.
As if to block out the glaring light, Feng Nian'en raised her arm and whispered again, "I'll go home with you."
The girl lowered her head, bit her lip, and after a long while said, "I'm not going back."
Feng Nian'en remained silent, continuing to look at her gently.
"I don't want to go back!" She raised her face, revealing a malicious smile. "Since you want to keep me company, then come with me to the movies!"
Feng Nian'en was taken aback, and before she could speak, the girl grabbed her arm. "Let's go, we might still make it to the early show."
The two rushed to the movie theater, only to find out upon entering that it was a war film. The theater was filled with the sounds of artillery fire and gunfire, but neither of them seemed interested. In fact, the girl fell asleep shortly after entering the theater.
Her head slowly slid from the back of the chair to Feng Nian'en's shoulder. Finally, whether intentionally or unintentionally while in a drowsy state, she simply lay down completely, stretching her legs out onto the empty seat next to her, and putting her head under the armrest to rest on his lap.
Although he remained conscious, Feng Nian'en had no idea what was being shown on the large screen. His thoughts were chaotic, and he couldn't remember anything he was thinking. It wasn't until the morning show ended, the lights came on, and the girl opened her eyes that he came to his senses.
"Finished?"
"It's over."
"Damn it! What kind of seat is this? It's so uncomfortable to sleep here." She said, trying to get up, but her neck got caught on the handrail, and she almost fell off.
Feng Nian'en quickly helped her up, and the girl finally sat up. She touched the back of her neck and cursed the movie theater seats.
"Should we continue watching?"
Si Wen tilted her head, saw his restrained expression, and burst out laughing: "You really think I like watching movies?"
He gave an awkward laugh.
Si Wen stretched and said, "But the sun is so bright outside, where should we go?"
Feng Nian'en was taken aback and was about to say something when her phone suddenly rang.
"Hello?"
Upon hearing the other person's voice, his expression immediately changed.
"kindness……"
"Yes, um..."
"...Yes, okay..."
"I understand, Dad."
"good……"
He put away his phone and looked apologetically at Siwen: "I'm sorry, my dad wants me to go back home."
"Your father?" She tilted her head, her expression somewhat strange. "Then hurry back."
“You…” He looked at her hesitantly.
"What do you mean, 'what do you mean, 'I'? Can't I go play by myself?' she said, taking the first step outside."
When the two arrived at the movie theater entrance, Feng Nian'en called out to the girl, "Um, you should go home and get some sleep."
Si Wen made a face: "Go on your way!" After she finished speaking, she ignored him and skipped away.
Feng Nian'en took a taxi to the Zhang family mansion, but perhaps out of a sense of trepidation at the prospect of returning home, he did not go in immediately.
He stared at the lush green vines stretching out from the courtyard until the sun made him dizzy before pressing the doorbell.
The Zhang family residence is a rare example of Chinese garden-style architecture in this modernized city. With its small bridges, flowing water, red bricks, and green tiles, the long corridor leads to Zhang Jiru's study.
"Master," he knocked on the door and greeted politely.
"Is that Nian'en? Come in quickly!"
He pushed open the door, and Zhang Jiru laughed, "You silly child, you haven't come back for so long. What, after spending so much time with Hanwen, you've forgotten your old man just like her?"
“Miss is just too busy.” His tone was as polite and calm as ever.
"Alright, you don't need to speak up for that heartless girl. I won't even ask you where she's been lately."
Feng Nian'en lowered her head: "I'm sorry, sir. I promised Miss."
"I know, I know, didn't I say I wouldn't ask you anymore? You're just too honest, that's why that girl bullies you."
"No, Miss is very kind to me."
"Alright, alright." He waved his hand. "I have something I need you to do." He took out a photo. "He's Hanwen's fiancé, a graduate of the University of California. He was originally scheduled to come back in a month, but since he got his master's degree early, there's no need for him to stay any longer. Could you pick him up from the airport for me? It's 12:35 now, and he should arrive at 1:45. Hanwen was supposed to pick him up; I told her a few days ago, but who knew..." He shook his head as he said this.
Feng Nian'en took the photo. The man in the photo looked to be about twenty-five or twenty-six years old, with slightly dark skin, a confident expression, and a resolute gaze. He had never seen this person before, but he had a feeling of familiarity with him.
Unlike seeing Jersey, when he saw Jersey, he always felt like he'd seen him somewhere before, but after seeing this photo, he felt... felt...
He shook his head, dismissing these inexplicable thoughts.
"His name is Long Xinsheng. After you pick him up, arrange for him to stay at a hotel, have a meal with him, and don't attract attention or reveal his identity to outsiders."
"Yes, I will be careful. Is there anything else, sir?"
"No, that's all. I'm so sorry, Nian'en, I called you back but you didn't have a chance to talk to Mingqian."
“No, it’s what I should do.” He said, bowing slightly, and left the study.
Upon arriving at the garage, Feng Nian'en chose a black Honda Legend that wouldn't attract attention. On the way to the airport, he kept glancing at the photo next to the steering wheel. From any angle, the person in the photo was handsome, and he could already imagine the scene of that person standing next to the radiant Zhang Hanwen.
"The master has always had a good eye for people."
He put the photos away, a bitter smile appearing on his lips.
When Feng Nian'en arrived at the airport terminal, it was already 1:46 PM. The plane had already landed, but Long Xinsheng hadn't yet cleared customs. He waited a moment, intending to find someone to write a sign, but remembering Zhang Jiru's instructions, he could only carefully search through the crowd. It wasn't until the large crowd dispersed that he spotted a man in a dark blue suit.
Upon seeing him for the first time, Feng Nian'en was startled, realizing why he looked familiar. This person resembled Lan Ya in some way—not in appearance or physique, but in that kind of aura, both giving off a strange, ethereal quality.
Before he could even approach, the person was already beside him: "Feng Nian'en, right?"
He nodded: "You..."
“I am Long Xinsheng, the person you are supposed to meet.”
"I know. But..."
"You mean why I know you, right?" he said confidently.
He nodded again, suddenly feeling very uncomfortable.
Long Xinsheng gave a bright smile: "It's very simple. I always have the habit of understanding my opponents."
He frowned slightly but remained silent.
"Haha, just kidding. Since I was the last passenger on this flight, and you looked like you were waiting for someone, plus I had heard Mr. Zhang mention you before, it wasn't hard to guess."
Feng Nian'en nodded and said nothing more. The two took their luggage and left the airport.
"Sir, please stay at a hotel for the time being," he said after driving for a while. "I don't know which hotel you prefer."
"Which one?" He snapped his fingers. "Moonlight will do."
Feng Nian'en glanced at him. The hotel he mentioned was built in the last two years. Although its artificial night view was amazing, its fame probably hadn't spread to the United States yet. Moreover, this hotel belonged to Witt Corporation, Zhang's biggest rival.
Is there a problem?
"No."
"There is no daytime under the moonlight."
This is the slogan for the Moonlight Hotel, and also the most fitting description of it. Whether it's the lobby, dining room, guest rooms, or corridors, almost all the interior spaces are decorated as if it were nighttime. Natural light is nowhere to be found in the moonlight, and there are very few artificial lights. Rows of candles of various colors and shapes illuminate the entire hotel in a bright yet hazy way.
Although many novelty-seeking young people enjoy dining at Moonlight Restaurant, and many tourists are willing to stay there after hearing about it, almost no one stays for very long. Moonlight's ambiance is hazy and beautiful, but also unbearable.
All the curtains and drapes were made of thick and luxurious velvet, and the floors of all the rooms were covered with long-haired carpets of various colors.
The dim lighting, the heavy fabric, and the staff in traditional uniforms all created a sense of both novelty and oppression.
Upon arriving at the castle-like building, they handed the car over to a staff member and entered the lobby together. This wasn't Feng Nian'en's first time in this place, but he still couldn't help but gasp after stepping through the heavy wooden door. What made him uncomfortable, however, was that after the initial awkwardness, he actually began to like the place.
Indeed, this sunless place was suitable for his current physical condition. He lowered his eyes, suppressing the turmoil within him.
The two arrived at the counter, and Long Xinsheng took out his identification.
"One person, standard room, for now... I'll stay for half a month."
"Half a month?" The clerk was taken aback, then looked up. "Are you sure, sir?"
"Of course, what, do you think I've been staying here too long?" Long Xinsheng smiled slightly, his handsome features were indescribable.
