Love Across Time - Chapter 25

Chapter 25

Wu Xiao lowered her head guiltily.

"I feel so dizzy, and my hands hurt too."

"Leng Gang, you carefully examine Wu Xia. We'll go get some medicine from the steward." Huan'er finished speaking and immediately took her husband's hand, walking out into the garden. There, Shi Wuji lifted her from behind, her feet off the ground. She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. Shi Wuji placed her on the stone table in the pavilion and stared at the ground, asking:

"What are you doing?"

“They’re a perfect match!” she said, lifting her chin. “Do you object?”

Shi Wuji smiled, relieved. If she wanted to play, let her play. He had done all he could; perhaps Huan'er could. He gently pressed her delicate nose. "Give it a try, then we'll talk again back in our room. It's time for dinner; it seems it's better for everyone to eat together." He thought of her teasing that afternoon and smiled wickedly. He wouldn't forget—how to "cherish" her, only the time would be delayed.

Huan'er's mind was entirely on Wuxia at the moment, and she didn't notice her husband's smug expression, still naively planning other people's good deeds.

When Huan'er returned to her room, Leng Gang had already left. She asked curiously:

Did you talk about anything?

"I...don't know what to talk about..." Wuxia said, sounding frustrated.

Huan'er sat in front of her.

"Have you decided that you won't marry anyone but him?"

Wu Xia nodded firmly.

That makes things easier," she said, taking Wuxia's small hand in hers.

"I think foolishly waiting for fate to smile upon us is the most foolish thing to do. A woman's happiness is tied to one man for her entire life. Are you going to marry a complete stranger, or do you want to work hard to marry the man you love? You must know Leng Gang. Being too reserved is a disaster. He would never dare to even think about marrying you, even if he's loved you for seventeen years. Oh dear! I really don't know how you could have fallen for that blockhead. He's as cold as ice, without a trace of tenderness, and he's not even good-looking..." She deliberately made things worse.

I can't stand the flawlessness.

"He—he's not! He's not good with words, but he's a very good person. He doesn't show concern for others with flashy behavior. But whenever someone is in trouble, he's always the first to step up. Besides, he's not ugly either; that scar makes him look more like a man." Wuxia's fierce rebuttal stopped abruptly when she saw Huan'er's mischievous gaze. Her face quickly turned bright red, and she said awkwardly, "Sister-in-law, you—you're so naughty!" She leaned into Huan'er's arms against her.

"He's so good, you should really make the most of him."

Wuxia nodded in her arms. A moment later, a servant came to invite them to dinner. She pulled Wuxia towards the door, then suddenly remembered something and smiled:

"There are two phrases that can describe Leng Gang: 'He observes the world with cold eyes, and repays his friends with a heart full of passion.' Tomorrow, when you get on the carriage, I'll teach you to read. Let's start with these two phrases."

Wuxia nodded happily. But Huan'er mischievously added, "Having Leng Gang teach you is just what you wanted!" With that, she lifted her skirt and ran away.

"Sister-in-law! You're so mean!" Wuxia swung her little fist and chased after her.

A silvery laugh drifted into the front hall.

The sight of two angelic beauties, their faces flushed from running, appearing at the same time was truly astonishing. Huan'er, finding her husband, quickly hid behind him, her laughter weak and feeble.

"Help! Wuxia is chasing me!"
