Chapter Forty-Nine

Tang Qiefang naturally wanted to know what he wanted to ask. However, she didn't dare to ask. The more she asked, the more she said, the more she interacted, the more guilty she felt.

It's as if I can see myself growing darker and more twisted every day... and one day I will find that I am no longer worthy to stand by his side.

When they reached the mountainside, the guide boy threw the invitation into the air, and a bridge appeared out of thin air in front of them. On the other side of the bridge, the mountains were shrouded in mist and clouds, and could not be seen clearly.

Tang Congrong remembered her father describing such a scene: bridges rising from the ground, and celestial mountains in the void. Perhaps, just as the legends say, the master who unified the martial world a hundred years ago was himself an immortal.

After crossing the bridge, we arrived at another mountain, where many exquisite houses were scattered. Suddenly, a flash of light caught our eye, and as we got a clearer view, we realized it was a sword radiating light.

The sword-wielding technique, possessed only by envoys of the Yuewei Pavilion, is truly wondrous.

The boy who was leading Tang Congrong led him to a small building and gestured for him to go inside, saying, "After you go inside, do not talk to anyone. You are only allowed to talk to the learned people."

Tang Congrong understood. As soon as he stepped in, the guiding boy disappeared, and a green leaf fluttered down and landed where the boy had just stood.

This is why everyone believes in the power of Yuewei Pavilion, because it is essentially the power of God.

Tang Congrong was also stunned by this incredible power.

The small building has two floors and is simply and elegantly furnished. There are already five or six people sitting there, all of whom are leaders of top sects in the martial arts world. They usually act freely wherever they go, but when they come to this small building, they sit quietly to the side and drink tea, not daring to talk to the people next to them.

Tang Congrong found a seat and sat down.

A woman descended the stairs; it was Baili Wushuang from Suoding City, dressed in red, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, a red glow between her brows that made her impossible to look directly at. This proud woman walked down the stairs, glanced at Tang Congrong, nodded slightly, and then left.

There will surely be a welcoming boy, disguised as a green leaf, leading her down the mountain.

Soon, it was Tang Congrong's turn.

The first floor was still furnished with ordinary human furnishings, but the second floor was shrouded in thick fog, with no end in sight.

A gentle voice said, "Take two steps to your left, there's a chair there."

Human vision is of no use here, so Tang Congrong groped his way to a chair and sat down.

The gentle voice said, "Now you may ask your questions."

Tang Congrong took a breath and asked, "I want to know about the mechanism on the cloud barrier."

Silence reigned in the thick fog. After a moment, a gentle voice rang out: "The Cloud Barrier is not of this world. Even if you obtain it, you will not be able to use it."

Tang Congrong was taken aback. "What?"

"The Cloud Barrier was a treasure of a cultivator, which fell to the mortal realm after his death. Cultivation artifacts rely entirely on the power of will to activate; no mortal could possibly possess the willpower to activate the Cloud Barrier. Tang Congrong, you still have one question."

Tang Congrong was taken aback. A simple "What?" was also a question? He steadied himself. "How can we cure the Heavenly Fragrance Poison?"

After a moment of silence in the thick fog, a gentle voice said, "In the mortal world, there is no cure for the Heavenly Fragrance."

Tang Congrong suddenly stood up.

Three questions, each answer extinguished his hope.

Chapter Fifty

He felt cold all over and went downstairs.

A gentle voice suddenly called out to him from behind: "Answer me one question, and I can answer your fourth."

Tang Congrong smiled bitterly, "I no longer need to ask a fourth question, but I can answer your question if I know the answer."

The voice paused, then spoke again, softer than before: "Do you know someone named Jin Chulou?"

Tang Congrong pondered for a moment, "Should we ask Jin Chulou from the Martial Arts Academy?"

"You know him?" The voice sounded as if it were full of surprise.

"I've only heard of his superb swordsmanship, but I don't really know him."

"Oh..." The voice held a hint of disappointment, then paused, "Thank you for answering my question. In return, I will keep your secret from anyone who asks about it in the future."

Tang Congrong's body trembled.

The voice seemed to understand his thoughts, saying, "Once you enter this small building, there will be no secrets in my sight. Others may not be able to see it, but I can."

Tang Congrong bowed slightly. "Thank you."

He went downstairs.

The guide boy led him down the mountain.

He walked the rest of the way in a daze, crossed the bridge, and reached the foot of the mountain.

There were villages at the foot of the mountain and a market town not far away. The sun was shining brightly, but his heart felt cold.

Tang Qiefang found him in the woods.

He was lying curled up against a tree. Tang Qiefang thought something bad had happened to him, and her vision went black. She turned his shoulder to her side.

His face was streaked with tears, but he didn't feel it. He was too tired to speak, and simply said, "Qiefang, take me back."

Tang Qiefang picked him up.

His body was unusually light.

He fell asleep without realizing it, and only regained his senses when he woke up.
