Kapitel 10

"Dad, what's wrong?"

When Ji Zhenghe talked about the drug research for treating Xi Jia's condition, he said, "I've inquired with people, and it's still in the research and development stage. As for whether it can be used in clinical trials, and when it will be used in clinical trials, no one can guarantee that."

In Beijing, there is only one other case with the same condition as Xi Jia, and that is the girl from the Jiang family. Over the years, the Jiang family has poured an unknown amount of money into the laboratory, but the results have not been optimistic.

Mo Yushen: "I'll think of something else."

Ji Zhenghe: "Yu Shen, thank you for your hard work."

"Dad, you're being too polite. It's nothing."

They then chatted for a few more minutes about Xi Jia's condition.

After finishing the call, Mo Yushen stared at his phone until the screen went dark, then he put it down and continued reading the documents.

After finishing all his work, it was already past midnight. As he came out of the study, he stopped in his tracks.

Xi Jia was looking around in the second-floor corridor, as if searching for him.

Mo Yushen knocked twice on the study door, and Xi Jia turned around at the sound.

Few men can resist the allure of her looks and figure.

Mo Yushen didn't avoid her gaze and asked, "What is it?"

Xi Jia walked over and smiled, "I have a few questions for you."

Mo Yushen turned on the study light again and let Xi Jia in.

He offered the chair to Xi Jia, then casually leaned against the edge of the table with his hands in his pockets, gesturing for her to ask.

Xi Jia carried a small notebook with her, turned to a blank page, and casually took a pen from the pen holder.

"Logically speaking, we've been married for six months. Even if there's no affection between us, we should be quite familiar with each other. But I feel like you treat me like a complete stranger."

Mo Yushen: "We rarely see each other; we only spend a total of twenty days together every six months."

Xi Jia nodded. No wonder.

She then asked a second question, "Have you ever thought about ending this abnormal marriage? With things like this now, the future is bound to be a mess."

Mo Yushen didn't say anything. Xi Jia looked up and saw that he was looking at her too.

Xi Jia understood that this silence meant she didn't want to answer.

She didn't insist on getting an answer, put the pen back in the pen holder, and said, "Thank you, I won't keep you from resting any longer." She then picked up her notebook and left.

The footsteps in the corridor grew fainter and fainter until they could no longer be heard.

The area outside the door was empty. Mo Yushen withdrew his gaze and rubbed his temples.

After a long silence, he called Cheng Weimo.

Cheng Weiming was leaning against the car door smoking. Two minutes earlier, he had just dropped Jiang Qin off at home.

"It's alright, Uncle Jiang and Aunt Jiang are both home." Cheng Weimo thought Mo Yushen was concerned about Jiang Qin, so he spoke first.

Mo Yushen hummed in agreement, then continued, "Draft another divorce agreement, giving the equestrian club under my name to Xi Jia."

Cheng Weimo was flicking cigarette ash when his hand paused.

The previous divorce agreement stipulated that the two would maintain financial independence and there was no division of assets. Mo Yushen also did not provide Xi Jia with any additional financial compensation.

Are you sure you want a divorce?

"Um."

Cheng Weiming nodded. "The club's shares can be cashed out for several hundred million."

Mo Yushen casually remarked, "We were husband and wife."

His generosity was beyond Cheng Weiming's expectations.

Cheng Weimo forcefully stubbed out his cigarette and threw it into the trash can before speaking: "If they're willing to give money, then at least there's some affection involved. It's not a big deal who you marry."

The implication is that they should stay together if possible.

Mo Yushen: "Why are you talking so much today?" Whether it's at the bar or now.

Cheng Weiming smiled and said, "I drank too much and caught Jiang Qin's alcohol. She kept babbling on and on all night."

He paused briefly, then asked, "Have you discussed it with Xi Jia? If you have, I'll draft it for you when I get home."

Mo Yushen: "No need to discuss it. She has someone else in her heart. Wouldn't a divorce suit her just as well?" Xi Jia asked several times today whether she wanted a divorce, which was roughly the meaning behind it. She wanted to get a divorce as soon as possible so she could find the person she loved.

Cheng Weimo was momentarily at a loss for words, and there was a few seconds of silence on the phone.

“Jiang Qin once said that no one would lose out if you married Xi Jia. Xi Jia was a blank slate when it came to relationships. Before she married you, she was only focused on training and competitions and didn’t have time for romance.”

He paused for a moment.

"Where did she get a sweetheart?"

Mo Yushen didn't reply, turned off the study light, and went back to his bedroom.

Cheng Weiming also realized he had talked too much. "I'm going home now. What time are you coming to my law firm tomorrow?"

Mo Yushen: "Nine o'clock."

Before hanging up the phone, Cheng Weiming brought up Jiang Qin again.

What Mo Yushen said at the bar tonight seemed normal to them, and was for her own good, but to Jiang Qin, she felt that Mo Yushen was too heartless.

At the hospital, she started crying as she spoke.

Of course, he also cursed Mo Yushen a few times.

"She's already upset about the breakup, so don't argue with an unreasonable woman. Call her tomorrow and explain things properly."

Mo Yushen said absentmindedly, "We'll talk about it later."

He put his phone on the bedside table, took a quick shower, and went up to the third floor.

Xi Jia was getting ready for bed when there was a knock on the door.

"Xi Jia".

It was Mo Yushen's voice.

Xi Jia got out of bed, put on a coat, and went to open the door.

Mo Yushen, dressed in dark-colored loungewear, pushed open the door and came in.

Xi Jia looked him over: "What...is the matter?"

Mo Yushen stated his purpose directly: "The marriage was a decision made by the elders of both families. When we got married, your condition was not so serious. We reached a consensus that we would divorce six months after the marriage."

Xi Jia met his gaze. It would be a lie to say she wasn't a little disappointed, but she was also decisive and nonchalant: "If you've prepared the divorce agreement, I'll sign it for you right now."

Mo Yushen: "Go to the law firm at nine o'clock tomorrow."

Xi Jia smiled faintly, "Okay."

Mo Yushen looked at her, had nothing else to say, and left, closing the door behind him.

Xi Jia's smile faded considerably; no longer sleepy, she packed the scripts from the table into her suitcase.

The next day was a sunny day.

The autumn air is crisp and clear, with blue skies and white clouds.

When Xi Jia went downstairs, she ran into Mo Yushen. He had just come out of the bedroom. Xi Jia stopped at the top of the stairs and waited for him. "Good morning."

Mo Yushen asked suspiciously, "Do you know who I am?"

Xi Jia smiled and said, "My husband, Mo Yushen."

I still remember him.

Mo Yushen glanced at her; her makeup was exquisite, and her dress perfectly complemented her气质 (qi zhi - inherent quality/temperament).

For her, divorce was a happy event.

Everything was normal after that. I ate breakfast normally, and there was nothing unusual about our occasional conversations.

Cheng Weimo sent a message: 【I've arrived at the law firm. You can come anytime.】

Mo Yushen: [A little while later.]

Before leaving home, Xi Jia put on her trench coat.

Mo Yushen was still putting on his cufflinks as he walked toward the stairs.

Last night, he drafted a club equity transfer agreement in his study, but he forgot to take it down just now.

"Are you going upstairs again?" Xi Jia asked.

Mo Yushen hummed in agreement.

Xi Jia glanced at her watch. She had originally planned to wait for Mo Yushen to go out together, but now it was too late.

She didn't remember how she and Mo Yushen interacted before, but in her ingrained memories, her father and mother always went out together, parted ways in the parking lot of the yard, and hugged each other before saying goodbye.

"I can't wait for you, I'm in a hurry to the horse farm." Xi Jia walked a few steps to Mo Yushen, reached out and hugged him, "Honey, see you tonight."

The movements were so natural.

Xi Jia grabbed her bag and car keys and hurriedly left.

Mo Yushen remained frozen, the night having passed. She still remembered him, but forgot to sign the divorce papers.

The sound of a car starting came from the courtyard, bringing Mo Yushen back to his senses.

Xi Jia's car drove away.

After putting on his cufflinks, Mo Yushen sent Cheng Weiming a message: "I'm not going anymore, I have to go on a last-minute business trip."

Chapter Seven

Mo Yushen didn't go upstairs to get the equity transfer agreement; he went directly to the company.

In the company's underground parking lot, Mo Yushen arrived at the same time as another car. He got out of his car, and the back door of the other car opened immediately afterward.

A tall, imposing figure appeared.
