Kapitel 64

This politeness and indifference towards strangers brought tears to Luo Cuizhen's eyes.

"Sister, I was wrong! I was just worried about you. I was afraid that in the end you'd have nothing! I..."

Luo Cuiwei looked at her indifferently, "Go back to your room and cry."

After saying that, he turned around and went into the house, slamming the door shut behind him.

At midnight, the night is still and deep.

Luo Cuiwei sat in the middle of the bed, wrapped herself tightly in the quilt like a cocoon, and stared blankly with her swollen eyes from crying in the darkness of the room.

Today's events may not seem like a big deal, but Luo Cuizhen's actions have chilled her to the bone.

But this was, after all, a family matter between the two sisters, and she didn't want to make a fool of herself in front of outsiders, so she could only keep a cold face and hold back for now.

Back in her room, she was both angry and aggrieved, and inexplicably started crying.

Really...

A gentle knock on the door interrupted her thoughts.

She glared angrily at the closed door, not wanting to acknowledge it at all.

A moment later, the person outside persistently knocked on the door again.

Afraid of disturbing the people in the surrounding rooms, Luo Cuiwei wrapped herself in a blanket and got out of bed. She walked over angrily and muttered through the door, "Go back to sleep!"

She truly didn't want to say another word to Luo Cuizhen at that moment, and even less did she want anyone to see her disheveled state.

She had been crying for a long time, and her eyes were swollen, so her voice had a noticeable nasal tone.

"Open the door, or I'll kick it down."

His deep, resonant voice carried a mixture of shock, pain, and annoyance.

It was Yun Lie's voice.

33. Chapter 33

On a spring night, in the middle of the night, there is no light and no moon.

In the pitch-black night, a thin, chilly wind blew, and all was quiet.

After hesitating and being dazed for a moment, Luo Cuiwei opened the door and laboriously pulled the thin blanket wrapped around her body tighter.

"Try kicking me!"

Fearing that she would attract attention and become a crowd, Luo Cuiwei's voice was low and breathy, which inexplicably carried a hint of sobbing.

It sounds like complaining, but also like being coquettish.

Her inexplicably aggrieved and soft voice startled even herself.

She felt extremely embarrassed, and when she looked up at Yun Lie, her gaze was very uneasy. "You... what are you doing here at this time?"

Yun Lie had already left Quanshan with the Emperor's entourage long ago. If they had traveled quickly, they should have arrived in the capital by nightfall.

At this moment, Yun Lie, dressed in a black martial robe, stood outside the door. His tall and upright figure almost blended into the darkness, his features and expression completely blurred in the night.

"You were crying, just as I suspected," Yun Lie said in a deep, annoyed voice, asking instead of answering, "Who bullied you?"

Sensing the underlying heartache and helplessness in his words, Luo Cuiwei felt a warmth in her heart and suddenly felt relieved, even wanting to smile.

Regardless of his reason for coming, his appearance erased her rare moment of grievance and weakness, and her heart shone brightly.

"Come in and talk, don't wake the others." She stepped slightly to the side of the half-open door.

Her tear-washed eyes stood out in the night, gazing at him softly and tenderly.

A strange feeling welled up in Yun Lie's heart, a mixture of anger and sweetness.

He simply stepped forward, pushed open the door, and scooped her up in his arms, blanket and all, before deftly kicking the door shut with his heel.

Luo Cuiwei gasped in surprise and quickly wrapped her arms around his neck. "Yun Lie, you..."

"Hmm?" Yun Lie carried her all the way in and gently placed her on the edge of the bed.

Luo Cuiwei sat on the edge of the bed, her feet dangling in the air, the thin blanket wrapped around her falling loose; however, her mind was in such a mess because of his sudden appearance that she didn't feel cold for a moment.

"Didn't you return to the capital with the Emperor this morning?"

"Let's not talk about that for now," Yun Lie said, hooking a carved round stool over with his toe and sitting down in front of her with an air of authority, his eyes level with hers. "Tell me first why you're crying? Who bullied you?"

In the dim light of the room, his eyes shone as he gazed at her intently and stubbornly.

It seemed as if there was nothing more important or serious than "why Luo Cuiwei cried".

Luo Cuiwei's eyes burned, and she shyly covered her dark eyelashes with a smile, whispering, "My sister."

“If she’s picking a fight, I’ll beat her up for you,” Yun Lie said, feeling a huge weight lifted from his shoulders. He reached out and ruffled her hair, muttering, “What a terrible sister she is, she’s outrageous.”

This is an outrageous act of protecting one's own.
