Kapitel 8

Are you ready?

"Mm." Mu Yang nodded, seeing his father nod with satisfaction.

"Being a doctor is a profession that requires a great sense of responsibility. For the sake of your patients, you must keep learning," the father, a surgeon, said earnestly. He had always hoped that his son would take up the scalpel from his hands.

“I know.” It’s a doctor’s responsibility. And becoming a surgeon has always been his father’s wish. As a child, he would read books in this study, which was filled with the distinctive smell of disinfectant that doctors use, and he always understood his father’s feelings clearly.

"You must become a doctor." That's what my father always told me when I was little.

He wanted to become a doctor. Mu Yang opened his eyes, his gaze falling on the admission notice on his desk. This was a well-planned path, wasn't it? Sunday's exam was a sure thing. He knew his abilities. But a voice inside him asked: So, are you just going to give up on your dream like this?

"Mu Yang..." Yan Shu poked her head in from behind the door, "I'm coming in."

Mu Yang didn't say anything, watching her pull over the chair in front of the desk and sit down.

"Your dad's still so serious—what are you doing?"

"It's nothing." He sat up in bed and went to tidy his desk. He subconsciously stuffed the admission recommendation form aside.

"Wow, this is a recommendation letter from T Medical University!" Yan Shu glanced at it. "That's amazing, Mu Yang, are you going to study there?"

Mu Yang didn't answer, but simply tucked the admission notice into his book, pulled up a stool, and sat down. "You, do you have a problem?"

Yan Shu walked over shyly, placed the notebook she was holding to her chest on the table, and pointed to several questions circled in red: "I don't really understand these."

Mu Yang glanced at the question, then looked at Yan Shu's eager face: "You..."

"Um?"

"Why study math so hard?" He's clearly not good at math.

"Because I have to take the college entrance exam," Yan Shu answered matter-of-factly. "Because I want to go to university, I'll do things even though they're not very good at them. Because they still look at my college entrance exam score."

Why go to university?

When asked this question, Yan Shu suddenly became embarrassed: "Because of me, I want to be a screenwriter. Don't laugh..."

Mu Yang thought to himself, "Where did I laugh?" But he just listened patiently as she continued.

"I want to share the stories I've written with everyone. So... I want to go to university, major in Chinese literature... Don't laugh at me, it's a dream."

"So, what is a dream?" Mu Yang suddenly asked.

“Dreams…I think…everyone has something they want, and I think that’s a dream.” Yan Shu paused, her eyes bright and determined. “So, even knowing it’s difficult, maybe impossible, I still want to do it.”

Knowing it would be difficult, perhaps even impossible, I would still do it. Mu Yang looked at the determined girl before him, the summer breeze gently caressing her soft, ear-length hair: "So beautiful."

He has always known what he wants, and always has.

Yes.

He suddenly burst into laughter. How could such a simple question have gotten him so stuck?

"Mu Yang—" Yan Shu shouted. Why is he laughing so exaggeratedly? She was being serious, why is he mocking her? "What are you laughing at?"

"It's nothing, it's nothing..." Mu Yang forced himself to stop laughing, but seeing Yan Shu's puffed-up face from her smug expression, he wanted to laugh again, so he changed the subject, "Is this the question you wanted to ask?"

"Ah, yes. I just don't understand..." Yan Shu hurriedly leaned forward and shared her feelings, as if afraid that Mu Yang would stop teaching her.

Seeing her serious expression, Mu Yang lowered his head and began solving the problem. He could clearly hear the voice breaking out of its shell within him.

Yes, it hatched.

What bad luck!

As Yan Shu ran wildly through the heavy rain, she thought to herself: "Really, it was sunny just a moment ago, how did it suddenly start raining?"

What bad luck!

I ran downstairs to my apartment and suddenly saw a familiar figure standing motionless in the rain: it was Xiao Wei!

"Xiao Wei, what are you doing?" She rushed over, trying to pull Xiao Wei into the building, but Xiao Wei remained motionless. She turned around and found Xiao Wei looking dazed, her eyes devoid of their usual sparkle; the heavy rain had soaked her through.

"Xiao Wei..." Yan Shu nudged Xiao Wei, "Hurry up and go inside!"

Xiao Wei glanced at her slowly, "Xiao Shu..." Suddenly, she hugged her tightly and burst into tears, "Was it because I didn't do well enough? Am I really annoying? Am I...? I thought that as long as I worked hard, as long as I was good enough, they would even look at me, but, but why... why... did it turn out like this?!"

Yan Shu was stunned. She didn't know what had happened, so she could only let Xiao Wei hug her and let her vent: "Xiao Wei, don't cry. Let's go to my house first..."

Xiao Wei shook her head: "It must be because I did something wrong, it must be."

"What exactly happened? Xiao Wei, tell me!"

“My parents…” Xiao Wei pushed Yan Shu away, her face a blur of rain and tears. She took a breath, “They’re getting a divorce…”

Yan Shu was stunned. She knew that Xiao Wei's parents didn't have a good relationship, and she rarely ran into Xiao Wei's parents when she went to Xiao Wei's house, but she never thought it would be like this...

"Xiao Wei, it's okay, it's okay. Your parents just had a fight and said some hurtful things. They wouldn't do that."

“They didn’t even argue, yet they said those hurtful things!” Xiao Wei cried out. “It must be my fault. I’m not good enough. It’s my fault.”

"No, it's not yours, Xiaowei. You're so amazing, you know. You're always number one in the class, everyone praises you, it's not..."

"It's because I'm not good enough..." Xiao Wei shook her head and murmured, "It's my fault..."

"Xiao Wei, don't say anything. Let's go upstairs first, okay?" Yan Shu, who was also soaked, wiped her hair. "You'll get sick like this! It's really not my fault."

Xiao Wei shook her head. "I know, I knew a long time ago. Xiao Shu, is it really not my fault?"

Yan Shu nodded frantically: "No, it really wasn't your fault."

Xiao Wei smiled and said, "Xiao Shu, you're a good person."

"Let's go inside quickly." Otherwise, Xiao Wei will really get sick. She reached for Xiao Wei's hand, but Xiao Wei gently pulled away: "Xiao Shu, you go back. I want to be alone." After saying that, she turned to leave.

"Xiao Wei!" Yan Shu called from behind, "It really wasn't your fault."

Xiao Wei didn't turn around, she just kept walking forward, saying to herself, "No, it's my fault."

Yan Shu pushed open the door and found a note on the table.

Xiao Shu:

Dad and Mom have to go out, they'll be back tomorrow afternoon. Take good care of yourself.

"Dad and Mom"

After reading the note, Yan Shu suddenly sneezed. Was she catching a cold? She'd better go take a shower quickly. Looking out the window, the rain was still pouring down: "Xiao Wei, are you really okay?"

"Achoo, achoo." Having just finished showering, Yan Shu sneezed several times. Really, could she have caught a cold? Just then, the doorbell rang.

"Coming, coming. Who is it?" Yan Shu hurriedly ran over, opened the door, and saw Mu Yang standing outside.

"Is something wrong?" Oh no, she felt like her voice was nasal.

"Didn't your aunt tell you? I'm coming to your house for a meal today." Mu Yang said as he went inside and changed his shoes. "My mom went out with my uncle and aunt, and my dad went to a meeting. So my aunt asked me to come to your house."

"Oh, I see." Yan Shu smiled. "Nobody really told me."

"Is it too late to talk about it now?" Mu Yang pulled out a stool and sat down at the dining table, starting to read the book he had brought from home.

"Of course!" Yan Shu opened the refrigerator door. "What do you want to eat?"

"Do whatever you want."

Honestly, you make it sound so nice, but if I just make something random, you won't eat it anyway. Yan Shu thought to herself, glancing at the refrigerator. There was quite a bit of food, but unfortunately, "Achoo—" she didn't seem to be in the mood to cook.

"You caught a cold?" Mu Yang looked up from his book.

"It's nothing." I feel really tired, so let's keep it simple: "Muyang, how about some noodles?"

Mu Yang glanced at her and said, "Okay."

So, Yan Shu was making noodles in the kitchen, while Mu Yang was reading in the dining room. What Yan Shu didn't know was that Mu Yang would occasionally look up at her busy in the kitchen and then give her a faint smile.

"All done." Yan Shu smiled as she watched the two bowls of noodles come out of the pot. A little more MSG and it would be finished. She opened the jar of MSG, only to find it was empty on the counter. She looked up; there was some left. So, she stood on tiptoe, trying to reach the packet of MSG. Just a little bit more, her hand could almost reach it…

Suddenly, a hand reached out and easily took the MSG. Yan Shu was stunned and quickly turned around, only to see Mu Yang standing behind her: "You want this?"

"Hmm." Yan Shu looked at Mu Yang, who had a gentle smile in front of her, and suddenly felt her face get hot. She took the MSG, cut it open, poured it into the jar, and then added it to the noodles: "Okay, it's ready to eat."

Mu Yang reached out and carried the two bowls of noodles out, then suddenly said, "Xiao Shu..."

"Um?"

"You're blushing." With a wicked smile, Mu Yang walked out of the kitchen, leaving Yan Shu there, extremely embarrassed, her face flushed. What was that all about!

Honestly, my face is still burning.

As Yan Shu ate, she grumbled inwardly. She glanced at the books on the table and asked, "Mu Yang, when are your exams?"

"Tomorrow." Hmm, Yan Shu's noodles are pretty good.

"Tomorrow... you're so capable, you'll definitely be able to do it."

Mu Yang didn't say anything, he just smiled at her.

Oh no! Yan Shu cried out in her heart: What's going on? My face is even hotter, and my head is spinning! "When you see someone and your head spins, you're doomed." A sentence she had read before flashed through her mind. Could it be that she...? When the word "like" popped into her head, Yan Shu was startled. No way!

"Xiao Shu." Mu Yang suddenly called her name, startling Yan Shu. What was wrong? Her face was getting hotter and hotter, definitely very red. Not only was she dizzy, but her heart was also beating faster and faster. Yan Shu, you've come this far all these years, how could you ruin your reputation like this in your later years...?

"Xiao Shu, why is your face so red?" What? Mu Yang looks just like usual, so why is my heart beating so fast and I feel dizzy?

"You wouldn't be—" Mu Yang's hand touched her forehead. Oh my god, I'm going to faint.

"You have a fever, don't you?" She had barely heard these words when she heard Mu Yang call out in a panic, "Xiao Shu!" Yan Shu then fell to the ground.

So it was just a fever. Before losing consciousness, she thought with relief: That's great.

It's hot...so hot...there's a fire burning inside...

"Water..." Yan Shu murmured the word, then felt a cool sensation on her lips. She greedily drank every drop. Suddenly, a cool sensation touched her forehead, and she felt a little better.

I barely managed to open my eyes, and there were figures moving in front of me. I felt extremely dizzy.

Who is that?
