Mysteriöses Brennen - Kapitel 31

Kapitel 31

Everything seemed to have calmed down, but the faint chill in the air seemed to be telling a story. Although Zhao Long was in a daze, for some reason, he couldn't sleep soundly and kept waking up every now and then.

Book 3, Chapter 4, Ghostly Events (4)

When Zhao Long woke up again, still half-asleep, he suddenly heard a faint "crack" sound, the sound of something breaking.

The sound came from the doorway, but he was still half-asleep and unsure if it was really there. He listened intently for a while, but there was no response. Perhaps it really was just a sound from his dream, Zhao Long thought, relieved.

Before he could fall asleep, he heard a loud crash at the door. The mirror on the door must have fallen down; that was Zhao Long's first thought.

The sound startled Wang Feng and Liu Hong awake, and they both sat up at the same time, asking, "What's wrong?"

Zhao Long said, "It looks like the mirror we just hung up fell down!"

Wang Feng muttered, "How could this be? I was hanging there very securely just now, there's no reason for it to fall down!" As he spoke, he got out of bed and looked at the door.

The doorway was littered with shattered mirror shards. Wang Feng stared blankly at the shards for a moment, then looked up at the door frame, his face turning deathly pale, just like Liu Shenghu's earlier expression.

Seeing that Wang Feng's expression was off, Zhao Long asked, "What's wrong? Is there a problem?"

Wang Feng slowly uttered a single word: "Blood!"

Zhao Long and Liu Hong were both startled. They got out of bed and went to the door. Sure enough, blood was seeping from the nail they had just hammered into the door frame. It seeped out little by little, slowly gathering into a drop before falling onto the shards of glass on the floor. After shattering into several pieces, only faint traces of blood remained on the glass shards, tiny red spots. Yet, it was chilling and horrifying, as if the blood were dripping directly into their hearts.

The three of them closed the door, sat on the bed, and looked at each other. Finally, Liu Hong spoke first, "What should we do? It seems there really is something fishy going on."

Zhao Long took a sip of water to moisten his throat, which was dry from nervousness, and said, "Maybe, maybe the mirror fell down by itself!" As soon as he finished speaking, he realized that this reason was really lame and he couldn't even convince himself.

Sure enough, Wang Feng said, "How do you explain the blood on the nail?"

The three of them sank again, sitting there blankly, none of them daring to sleep.

The only sound in the entire dormitory was Liu Shenghu's heavy breathing as he slept.

While the three were in a daze, Liu Shenghu on the bed suddenly screamed "Ah—!" and then sat up abruptly. This scream almost drove the three of them crazy.

Liu Shenghu sat on the bed, panting heavily, and said in a trembling voice, "A ghost! A ghost! She's come looking for me!"

The four sat together, and Liu Hong said, "Tiger, tell me, what exactly happened? You've been acting strange ever since you came back today. Tell me what happened!"

Liu Shenghu recounted what happened after self-study that evening, his voice trembling.

After listening, all three remained silent. After a long while, Liu Shenghu suddenly burst into tears, saying, "It really was a ghost! What should I do?"

After thinking for a while, Zhao Long said, "Tomorrow we'll stay in another dormitory and squeeze in with other people. Maybe the yang energy is stronger, but it'll help us resist. I heard there's a teacher at our school who seems to know a lot about this. Let's go ask him!"

After the four finished their discussion, they just sat there. They didn't know when they all fell asleep, and when they woke up it was already broad daylight, and nothing else had happened.

Afterwards, they never dared to go back to the dormitory. They would only go back during the day to get books or something, and they would leave as soon as they got them, never staying for long.

Liu Shenghu hasn't been to the anatomy building's study room since, not only because he's afraid to go, but also because he's had a persistent low-grade fever since that day and hasn't gotten better yet. However, due to his family's financial situation, he only managed to get some medicine from the hospital and has been staying at a classmate's house ever since, unable to attend classes.

Meanwhile, the remaining three people gradually felt increasingly unwell, frequently having nightmares and waking up in fright, but they couldn't remember anything about their dreams when they woke up.

By the time Zhao Long finished speaking, Lin Feng and he had already reached the school gate, where Xiao Jie was waiting not far away.

After listening, Lin Feng said, "I have a question I'd like to ask!"

Zhao Long asked, "What's the problem?"

Lin Feng laughed and said, "Who told you I was sent to the hospital because of an exorcism? And how did you know I had a red thread on my hand?"

Zhao Long glanced at Xiao Jie Jie in the distance and said, "Back then, one of our classmates was in the hospital and saw you with Teacher Jie Jie. He overheard some of your conversations, which is how we found out!"

Lin Feng nodded and said, "I can help you, but please don't ask me these questions in public again. However, I'm willing to participate as an enthusiast in solving things you find unbelievable. Of course, don't come to me with questions about finding aliens!"

Zhao Long scratched his head sheepishly and said, "I know Teacher Lin doesn't want others to know, we'll definitely keep this a secret for you!"

Lin Feng smiled bitterly to himself. He was still keeping it a secret; he figured there were probably very few people in the whole school who didn't know about it.

Zhao Long looked at Lin Feng and said, "Teacher Lin, when would you like to help us deal with that matter?"

Lin Feng patted Zhao Long on the shoulder and said, "The situation is so bad, we shouldn't delay. I'll go to your dorm tonight. You guys wait for me there at ten o'clock!"

Zhao Long happily agreed, saying, "Okay!"

When they reached Xiao Jie Jie, she glared at Lin Feng and said, "You've just recovered, and your skin's already itching for another beating? Are you going to show off your skills again?"

Lin Feng smiled apologetically and said, "No, it's nothing."

As they walked, Xiao Jie said, "Small matters? You said it was a small matter last time too, but what happened later? Not only did you create that perverted Taoist priest Zhang Xiang, but you also brought out a creature like the 'Mirage Dragon,' and in the end, you even encountered the Ghost King. Are these all small matters in your eyes?"

Lin Feng chuckled and said, "There aren't many guys in the world as powerful as Zhang Xiang. The 'Mirage Dragon' was a complete accident; didn't we still manage to escape unscathed in the end? As for a ghost of the Ghost King's caliber, you probably wouldn't encounter one in several lifetimes."

"Escaped unscathed?" Xiao Jie twisted Lin Feng's ear and said, "If it weren't for Qi Qi risking her life to save you for my sake, you wouldn't have had enough lives to spare."

"Ouch, ouch, be gentle! Let go, okay? There are so many people on the street, it's so embarrassing!" Lin Feng pleaded all the way as Xiao Jiejie dragged him home.

Volume 3, Chapter 5: Ghostly Tales (5)

Lin Feng himself didn't know why he had such an extraordinary and fervent obsession with these paranormal events. This was unimaginable for others, but Lin Feng found it endlessly fascinating.

The consequence of the last battle with the Ghost King was that Lin Feng was in a terrible state, like he'd been hit by a truck, and spent several days in the hospital. Xiao Jie Jie also strongly urged Lin Feng to resign from his job at the Special Investigation Department, but after Lin Feng's persistent pleading, she finally gave in. She knew Lin Feng had a passion for this kind of thing; just like women are naturally drawn to shopping, even seeing pretty clothes is satisfying. Lin Feng was the same way. If he knew something like this happening around him and didn't investigate, he'd be sighing and looking miserable all day long.

Originally, Xiao Jie Jie didn't plan to let Lin Feng go that evening. But seeing his pitiful look, she softened and let him come. However, she repeatedly warned him to be very careful and to quickly find Qi Qi for help if things went wrong. Lin Feng promised ten times before Xiao Jie Jie finally let him go.

Qiqi has been in a bad state lately; she can't completely control her craving for blood. Fortunately, Li Mingsheng has been by her side for the past two months, otherwise the situation might have gotten worse. She might have another violent outburst, which would be very dangerous.

Lin Feng and Xiao Jie Jie consulted many resources but couldn't find a way to restore Qi Qi to normal, which greatly distressed them. Qi Qi also felt that hope was extremely slim. Although Li Mingsheng kept encouraging her, Li Mingsheng himself knew that the chances were very slim.

Lin Feng arrived at school at exactly eleven o'clock. When he got to Zhao Long's dormitory, Zhao Long and the others were already waiting inside. All three of them looked tense and uneasy, but they visibly relaxed when they saw Lin Feng arrive.

Lin Feng laughed and said, "Why are you all so nervous? It's not a big deal!"

Zhao Long said with a bitter face, "It may not be a big deal for you, but it's a big deal for us. It's something we can't see or touch, who knows when it might launch a surprise attack!"

Lin Feng rubbed his hands together and said, "Come on, let me see if there's anything wrong with you two. Didn't you say you both felt uncomfortable and kept having nightmares?"

Zhao Long nodded and said, "Yes, I went to the hospital for a checkup, and everything was normal. There's nothing wrong with me, but I just feel uncomfortable!"

Lin Feng examined the three of them carefully and said, "It's not a big problem. They're just being attacked by yin energy. Just expel the yin energy, and you'll all be back to your normal, lively selves!"

Zhao Long was startled and said, "Is this a yin energy attacking my body?"

Lin Feng said, "Yes! Most people are surrounded by yin energy to some extent, but because the yang energy that humans are born with will repel the yin energy from the body, it cannot cause any harm to the human body."

Wang Feng asked, "Then how did it get inside our bodies?"

Lin Feng said, "Well, I don't know yet!"

Wang Feng then asked, "How harmful is it when yin energy attacks the body?"

Lin Feng said, "Generally, a small amount of Yin energy won't activate unless it encounters suitable conditions. Even if it does activate, at most it will cause someone like Liu Shenghu to remain ill but not to become worse. It might either get better or get sick again and then get better again. But if a large amount of Yin energy activates, it's extremely dangerous. At best, it can turn someone into an idiot; at worst, it can kill them." Lin Feng's expression turned very serious as he said this, "Moreover, based on my judgment, your Yin energy attack was probably deliberate!"

Liu Hong couldn't help but ask, "We haven't offended anyone, have we?"

The three of them thought about it for a long time and realized that they had never offended anyone and were usually good people, so why would anyone want to deliberately harm them?

Lin Feng spread his hands and said, "Then I don't know. Maybe you offended someone unintentionally, or maybe you didn't offend anyone at all but someone just doesn't like you!"

Zhao Long gritted his teeth and said, "Damn it, if I find out which guy did it, I'll drag him out, chop him up, and make dumplings with him!" He finished speaking with great resentment.

Lin Feng said, "It's not that serious. Maybe the person who harmed you was just a newbie, which is why he only put this little bit of yin energy in your bodies. Or maybe he just wanted to teach you a lesson!"

Zhao Long was stunned for a long time, then said dejectedly, "What do we do now?"

Lin Feng said casually, "It's nothing, why worry so much?"

Lin Feng took out three talismans from his pocket and had each of the three pour a bowl of boiling water. After letting it cool for a while, Lin Feng lit the talismans, threw the ashes into the bowls, and then said to the three, "Drink! Drinking this will guarantee you're all fine!" He gestured for them to drink.

The three of them picked up their bowls, looked at each other, and hesitated to drink. Zhao Long asked hesitantly, "Teacher Lin, is this really safe to drink? Won't it give me diarrhea?"

Lin Feng crossed his arms and said, "I don't know if it will cause diarrhea, but do you think it's better to have diarrhea or to lie in bed pretending to be dead like Liu Shenghu?"

Upon hearing this, all three tilted their heads back and drank the water in their bowls in one gulp.

Less than two minutes after drinking the water, all three felt a sudden chill run through their bodies, followed by a cold draft that seemed to travel from head to toe. Then, a slight tingling sensation appeared on their foreheads as the cold air burst forth. They all let out a long breath, feeling an indescribable sense of comfort and relief, and were overjoyed. Previously, they had been somewhat skeptical of Lin Feng's abilities and his mastery of these situations. After experiencing it firsthand, their doubts vanished, and their confidence in Lin Feng increased tenfold; now they had complete faith in him.

Seeing the three people's excited expressions, Lin Feng asked, "How are you feeling now?"

The three nodded vigorously and said, "It feels great, that uncomfortable feeling is completely gone!"

Lin Feng said, "Then take me to the anatomy building now!"

Zhao Long and the others were still a little scared. After all, that building was known throughout the school for its eerie and terrifying atmosphere. It was usually gloomy and chilly during the day, let alone now.

Lin Feng encouraged them, saying, "Don't worry, there's nothing to be afraid of!"

Zhao Long nodded and said, "Alright then, anyway, with you in front to protect us, we still have a good chance of escaping if anything happens!"

Lin Feng almost vomited blood upon hearing this. It turned out that the three kids had ulterior motives and were using him as a shield! However, he was too lazy to argue with them and turned to walk away.

Book 3, Chapter 6: Ghostly Tales (6)

Once outside, Lin Feng looked at the nails hammered into the door frame. The bloodstains around the nails had turned black, indicating they had been dry for a long time.

He reached out and pulled the nail out, saying, "What a charade! This nail wasn't even driven in properly, that's why the mirror fell down." Then he held the nail to his nose and smelled it, saying, "It's not blood, there's no smell of blood. Someone must have been trying to scare you!"

Upon hearing this, the three men immediately flew into a rage, shouting angrily, "Which bastard is sneaking around doing this? If I catch him, I'll castrate him!" They deliberately spoke loudly, because the person who did this was most likely someone from their building.

Seeing the three men's indignant expressions, Lin Feng couldn't help but laugh and say, "Let's go, let's talk after we catch them! I also want to see who's behind this!"

Stepping out of the dormitory building, they were met with the deep darkness of night. Perhaps out of fear of the unknown, Zhao Long and his two companions felt a bit tense. Their tension made even the cold weather seem less harsh.

The snow crunched under their feet, but Zhao Long was still a little uneasy. He asked, "Teacher Lin, do you think that ghost is too powerful?"

Lin Feng grunted and said, "It's very difficult to see a vengeful ghost, and I don't think it intentionally harmed Liu Shenghu. It's just that Liu Shenghu already had yin energy in his body, which was triggered by it. People with yin energy in their bodies are generally fifty times more likely to see ghosts or hear ghosts than ordinary people, because yin energy is easy to stimulate and attract each other, just like tuning a radio."

Zhao Long asked curiously, "If the chances are fifty times greater, why didn't any of us see a ghost?"

Lin Feng said, "Haha, even if it's fifty times bigger, the chance is still extremely rare. The nightmares you often have are the result of a reaction between the yin energy inside your body and the yin energy outside. It's really nothing serious, but people who don't understand are naturally afraid. Like Liu Shenghu, who was terrified, something he should have been able to overcome, but the more fearful he was, the less he could resist, and that's why he fell ill and never recovered. This is also a function of yin energy guidance. Simply put, yin energy is just bad luck; those who can withstand it can get through it."

After listening to Lin Feng's long explanation, the three of them seemed to understand but not quite, but at least they weren't so scared anymore. They felt that it wasn't that big of a deal and wasn't that scary.

They soon arrived at the anatomy building, which appeared even more sinister in the darkness, like a lurking monster waiting for the perfect moment to deliver a fatal blow to its prey. A dim light still shone from the third floor, suggesting that someone was still there.

Lin Feng frowned and glanced at his watch. It was almost midnight, the time when the yin energy was at its strongest. Staying in this place was extremely dangerous, because Lin Feng had already sensed that there was something unusual in this building, but the yin energy didn't seem to be very strong, which was why Liu Shenghu was able to get out that day.

Pushing open the doors of the anatomy building, they creaked open, like the building coughing from its age. The sound was particularly jarring in the quiet of the night.

A gust of wind swept through, causing the three people behind Lin Feng to instinctively shrink their necks.

Lin Feng, however, sensed a hint of sorrow in the air. It seemed to be a vengeful spirit, unable to be reborn because of the unresolved obsessions of its past life. Such spirits were pitiful; they clung to what they hadn't accomplished in life, wanting to finish it after death, yet they were completely unaware of their own demise, still striving to do so. But no matter what they did, they couldn't succeed; the more they failed, the deeper their obsession grew, until finally they became vengeful spirits, harming the world.

The solution is actually quite simple: if those who can see them offer some help, they can ascend to higher realms. The problem is that most people can't see them, and those who can are too frightened to help. So who will help them? Over time, every time they attack someone, and everyone ignores them, they develop resentment towards those who refuse to help them.

Lin Feng felt great sympathy for these vengeful spirits and would always offer help if he encountered one.

Upon reaching the third floor, he noticed that only the hallway lights were on; none of the classrooms on either side were lit. Where did the light they had seen downstairs come from? Just as he was pondering this question, all the hallway lights suddenly went out, startling Zhao Long and the others.
