Peaceful Jianghu - Chapter 26

Chapter 26

Xiao Dao was too lazy to even criticize her in his heart. She was a typical resentful wife from a wealthy family, and the kind who was resentful to the extreme.

However, there was one thing that bothered Xiaodao: she just said something about being very young back then... This girl is only in her late teens or early twenties, what do you mean by "back then"?

The seventh concubine cursed a few times, then stood up, left the room, closed the door behind her, and turned to instruct a maid, "Do it the same way."

"Yes, Seventh Madam."

The seventh concubine then went to another courtyard.

After everyone left, Xiao Dao sat up and scratched her head. Seventh Aunt had just pulled out several strands of her hair, and it hurt terribly.

After standing up, Xiao Dao carefully observed the room, his eyes darting around. He then took something out of his treasure pouch, preparing to teach Cai Bian a lesson later.

In the front yard, Cai Bian was still drinking with Xue Beifan. Xue Beifan seemed very anxious, constantly looking towards the gate.

Cai Bian chuckled inwardly—you little rascal, from now on, this woman is no longer yours. Then again, to have won such a beauty, this guy is truly blessed.

Just then, a maid ran over and bowed to the two of them. "Master, the Seventh Madam asked me to tell Young Master Xue that Madam Xue is not feeling well because she is not able to hold her liquor. Madam has sent a sedan chair to take her back to the inn first."

"Ah?" Xue Beifan was startled, stood up and bowed to Cai Bian, "Then, Lord Cai, I..."

"Hehe, it's alright, it's alright." Cai Bian waved his hand dismissively, "Young Master Xue, you should hurry back. The sedan chair isn't going very fast; you should be able to catch up."

"Then I'll take my leave." Xue Beifan turned and left.

Cai Bian grinned mischievously, rubbed his hands together, and turned back to tell the maid, "Give the order that no one is allowed around the backyard, and no one is to come and disturb us if we hear any noise!"

"Yes, sir."

As soon as the maid left, Cai Bian couldn't wait to run towards the courtyard where Xiao Dao was, rubbing his hands together and muttering, "Little beauty, I'm finally here!"

At this moment, Xue Beifan did not leave. He turned a corner after leaving the Cai residence and came back. He climbed the courtyard wall and caught up with Cai Bian in a few leaps and twos, and quietly followed him.

All I heard was her muttering something about a little beauty.

Xue Beifan sneered inwardly, a murderous intent rising within him. Whether or not he found the Dragon Bone Five Diagrams, he'd kill you first. To paraphrase that girl's usual saying—it would be doing a service to the people!

Cai Bian rushed to the door, frantically unlocked it, and locked the door again after entering. He spotted someone lying on the bed ahead and was overjoyed. He walked forward happily.

Xue Beifan was on the roof, having lifted two tiles and was staring intently at the scene.

When he saw Xiaodao lying there, he became anxious, wondering if he had been poisoned...

Just as I was thinking this, the candlelight in the room suddenly flickered... The originally warm flame turned into a strange bluish-green color.

Cai Bian paused, standing there, seemingly puzzled. If only one candle had changed color, that would be one thing, but for every single one to change color was rather eerie.

"Ahem." He cleared his throat, glanced at the bed, and couldn't help but call out softly, "Little beauty?"

The knife didn't react.

Cai Bian felt that he might be overthinking things, so he continued walking forward.

Just then, with a sudden whoosh, without a breath of wind, several candles in the room went out simultaneously. Only the candle on the central table emitted a dim green light.

Cai Bian made a strange sound from his throat, like a hen making a "clucking" sound.

Xue Beifan covered his mouth on the rooftop—was this girl trying to scare him to death?

"Cai~Lian~the heartless man..."

Just then, a strange voice came from behind, "This old woman has been waiting for you for so long..."

Cai Bian yelled "Mommy!" and took a step back, tripping over a table leg and falling hard on his backside. His hand touched something wet, and looking up, he saw water on the floor, along with some damp, slippery seaweed. It was actually water that Xiao Dao had spilled when he scooped the fish from the tank.

"Who...who are you?"

He looked uncertainly at the bed and saw that Xiao Dao was still lying there perfectly still, which was strange.

I was puzzled.

With a "whoosh," a figure quickly swept through the air, emitting a sharp laugh of "Hahaha."

Cai Bian stared in disbelief as he saw a figure hovering lightly in the air, then swaying rapidly with a strong current. It didn't look like a person at all; it was definitely a ghost or something similar.

Xue Beifan was secretly shocked, thinking to himself that Yan Xiaodao's lightness skill was truly amazing. No wonder Yan Ruyu could steal all over the world back then and no one could catch her.

"Cai Lian, you'll pay for our lives..." Yan Xiaodao drawled, his voice hoarse. His voice carried a hint of inner strength, giving it a truly frightening quality.

Cai Bian was so frightened that he tried to run away, but as soon as he stood up, a whip lashed out, causing him to bleed from the mouth.

"Grandma, spare me..." Cai Bian pleaded, but Xiao Dao's eyes flashed with malice, and she raised her hand to lash out with her whip. This snakeskin whip, freshly soaked in water, was incredibly powerful; Xiao Dao's mother had given her this whip years ago to beat lecherous thieves. Xiao Dao lashed out with both hands, causing Cai Bian to howl like a banshee.

Far away from the courtyard gate, several craftsmen were still muttering, "What kind of show is the master putting on today?"

However, Cai Bian had given orders that no one was allowed to approach, no matter what sound they heard, so the guards remained standing and chatting.

Cai Bian was so badly beaten that he couldn't even remember his father's surname. He covered his head and crawled under the table, crying out, "Grandma ghost, have mercy! I won't do it again... I won't do it again."

The long tablecloth hung all the way to the ground, blocking out the darkness ahead.

Cai Bian sensed a dark figure approaching. He was so scared he almost wet himself. He nervously looked ahead, trying to figure out how to escape.
